Greetings one and all to the wonderful world of 30%, a verse created by Jackboy0815 where 30% of the world's population mysteriously became creatures known originally as Pokemon. This story is based in a timeline where on either the 21st or 22nd of August 2019 (Depending on timezone), the event that would change the world forever, began. Join Crystal and her family/friends as they experience first paw what could happen if such an event were to occur. This story was originally created in September 2020, however, it has been somewhat rewritten in April 2021 due to some unfortunate happenings in the Discord of the community, including the person that was writing a story alongside it unfortunately deleting his story due to the aftermath. That said, it has been rewritten to not need a second story alongside it, while still keeping the same feel as before, with more details due to more practice and me having read a story called 'I became a Vulpix' (which you should read btw).

'How am I supposed to be precise with these big fluffy paws?'

1:10 am 22/08/2019

I laid awake, staring up at the ceiling while trying to fall asleep. I had been in that position for nearly two hours now, but sleep had forsaken me. 'Why… Why can't I sleep?' I thought as I lay there, rain pitter-pattering on my roof on a peaceful, almost silent Thursday morning. Sleep was, unfortunately, being elusive, even though I knew I had classes in the morning, but more importantly, at least to me, I wanted to spend time with my boyfriend before class, RPing with him until I needed to leave being my goal. It was unfortunately very hard to have time to RP together, since we lived on virtually opposite sides of the world, him living in America, and me living in the land down under. 'They say this is supposed to be the safest place to live in the world… Also seems to be the most boring.'

I started to groan in frustration due to my predicament but then elected to turn over and check the time on my phone, which was laying on my right bedside table as always. I picked it up, making sure to brace myself for the large amount of light that was sure to come from the phone once switched on. As I clicked the standby switch, the phone turned on with a blinding light that felt like a set of headlights being shone right in my face. Once my eyes adjusted and the phone's brightness lowered, I looked at the time, and groaned once more 'You've got to be kidding me, it's 1:12 already!?' I sighed, looking at the tempting Discord icon in my phone's hotbar, begging me to click it. 'Fine, if I can't go to sleep, maybe a talk with Sky will help me relax, he always knows what to say in these situations.' I go into the Discord app, and go to messages, noticing he isn't online right now. 'Far out, maybe he is still in class? He should be out soon, so I'll just leave a message so he can see it when he gets out.'

I began typing 'Hey Sky, I can't sleep and I've been trying for a few hours now, mind if we just talk until I can sleep?' I looked at the send time, which read 1:14 am. 'Alright, only a few more minutes, I'll just put the phone down until he messages me back.' I put the phone down where I found it, and just laid there, listening to the rain once more.

After around six minutes, I heard my phone vibrate. I picked it up, unlocked it, and read the message. 'Sure thing, anything for you, what do you wanna talk about?'

I sat up in my bed, leaning against a tower of pillows that I used to give myself comfort and support. I responded to his message 'How was class for you?' and awaited a reply. A minute later, I saw his next message.

'It was decent, but we had a substitute. I swear with how he talked, it reminded me of that one Key and Peele sketch lmao,' I giggled as I thought back to the substitute teacher skit he showed me a year earlier. I had not known about the internet for very long at the time, even with my age I had only heard of it around three years before, but my parents weren't exactly swimming in money, so I was thankful they decided to get it. 'But that also meant my focus was elsewhere towards the end of class'.

I typed back with a smile on my face, shaking my head, 'Well I'm not surprised, we both have a habit of doing that!' I then add a laughing Sylveon emote at the end.

'Yeah, hopefully I didn't miss anything too important'

I gained a reassuring smile, even though he'd never see it,

'Typically most classes are boring at the end anyway, so probably not'

'I suppose so, but why can't you sleep? Did you watch a scary movie before bed?'

I gave a puzzled look and thought about it, `Why HAVE I not been able to sleep tonight?'

'I'm not sure, I guess something is keeping me awake? But I'm not sure what'

'Hmm, that seems a little troubling, but there must be something… I'm sure we'll figure it out'

I nodded in agreement. Just as I was about to send my next message, I had a slight headache but it quickly faded,

'Yeah, I've honestly never had anything like it'

'It might be a case of insomnia? Maybe some sounds are stopping you?'

I looked out towards my window, deep in thought.

'I don't think it's sounds, there is rain, but that usually soothes me, helping me sleep'

I gave a worried look.

'I hope isn't insomnia tho, it always makes me worry when I stay up late and can't sleep because of that fear'

"Hopefully not, I had to pull an all-nighter one time cause of that, but iirc, there is a term for stuff like that, I don't quite remember though'

I looked at the clock and thought 'I don't feel like looking it up'

'We can figure that out later, so what are you going to do when I go to sleep?'

'Probably just play some pokemon, my team needs some grinding'

I thought back to when I was playing earlier in the day, remembering the little vs we were doing

'That's true, I have pulled ahead a little' I then put another Sylveon laughing emote.

'Alright, now I'm really gonna grind! I won't let you beat me! I am the ULTIMATE Pokemon master!'

I giggled, admiring his determination. I decided to tease him a little.

'Oh, it'll take more than just a little grinding to catch up~'

'I bet I could do it, you'll see! My team will wipe out everything in its path once I'm done!'

I giggled more, knowing he probably will but having fun teasing him,

'I don't know, I have pulled a decent way ahead of you~'

'Okay okay stop antagonizing me'

He then put a cute pouting Eevee emote to try and guilt trip me

I giggled madly, trying to stay as quiet as I couldn't afford to wake my dad,

'Aww, but it's so fun~'

'Sure it is'

Out of nowhere, I began feeling a massive amount of pain in my back, that slowly spread to my arms, legs, and even my entire head. I felt my bones slowly crack and move, as though they were shifting places, some growing and others shrinking on their own. I felt my mouth open in a silent scream, unable to make a sound as I even felt my lungs, teeth, and other organs shift and move, shrink and grow, no longer feeling painful but rather uncomfortable. I began looking around to my best ability, but even my eyes didn't want to cooperate, until a few minutes into it. I started looking around, my body still shifting, but now only a small amount of my body was still changing. I looked around, my eyesight no longer as good as it once was, but still clear enough to make out most things in my room, and still in full color.

'What the fuck was that!?' I thought as I began looking down at my body… or at least the body my head was attached to. I instinctively moved back, seeing a lot of white and lightish purple. I began to panic, not knowing what had happened to me, before I tried snapping myself out of my hysteria, and remembered Sky's technique for calming down. I began slowly breathing in and out, starting off shakey, but slowly calming myself enough to think straight. Once I had calmed down enough, I began moving my 'hand', and noticed that there were a small purple and white paw following its every move. 'What the hell?' I looked directly down to my stomach, only able to see a white underbelly that was attached to the paws and legs I just saw. I started getting a million and one thoughts racing through my head, as I looked to my lower legs and behind me, seeing another set of these legs and paws, as well as a tail. 'Is this… really me!?' I tried to stand up, at first on my hind legs like a normal Human, but fell soon after, landing on my left flank. One thing I noticed as I tried again, was just how small I had become or was it how big my room had become? I was unsure but noted that standing on my hind legs was not working.

I instead tried to stand up, opting to stand on all fours now instead of just two. While it felt weird doing so, I found that my balance was much easier to maintain while standing up, even though it still took around 5 minutes of standing and falling to get the hang of it. 'Now comes the fun part, walking', I mused to myself as I began trying to move my legs up and down, doing a sort of marching action on the spot so I could see if my balance was good enough to do so. Once I was confident that I wouldn't immediately fall over, I began trying to figure out how to walk on all fours, tripping over myself several times, and landing face first even more often, until I was able to walk around fairly consistently for around a minute without tripping.

I decided it would be best to try getting off the bed next since that was the next big hurdle for me to get past. I started by slowly letting my arms, or rather forelegs, fall off the bed, making sure that I didn't fall too hard, remembering how a puppy starts learning to go downstairs. After about a minute of letting both my fore and hind legs slowly go down the bed, I walked over to my desk which was in the back corner of the room. I tried to get onto my desk chair so I could look at myself through my laptop screen, and after several failed attempts at getting myself up, I managed to claw my way up. I opened my laptop lid and stared in shock at the face that was staring back at me. She was a female dog-like creature, that had white fur all over her body, legs, and face, with the tips of her paws a lightish purple I had seen earlier. This lighter shade of purple was also covering her whole tail and the top part of her head as well as her ears, which had a darker purple in the middle of them. Her ears sat proudly atop her head and were as long as a Fennec Fox's ears. She also had two purple bows, one atop her head and another just under her neck, along with two ribbon-like appendages coming from each one, being mostly white with a strip of pink before ending in a purple tip. Finally, her face had a small snout with large deep blue eyes.

I sat there for what felt like hours just staring at the reflection, touching all over my body, watching as the image mimicked all of my movements perfectly. "Sylveon'' was all that could escape my lips as it dawned on me, that I had become a Sylveon, not a normally colored one or even a shiny, but an alternately colored one that matched my personality to a tee. My favorite colors were purple and pink, and I also loved white, which made this color scheme especially appealing to me. I also noticed just how fluffy my fur was, seemingly fluffier than I remembered from the games and Anime. I rubbed my fur a bit as an experiment to see just how fluffy I was, which felt so comfortable I made a small noise, similar to that of a cat purring. 'Did I just, purr?' After a moment, it dawned on me 'Oh shit, Sky!' I hopped off the chair, stumbling to my paws as I had still not gotten used to jumping off furniture. I jumped back onto my bed, being more confident than when jumping onto the chair since it was lower to the ground, but I still struggled a little. I laid next to my phone, and flipped over the cover, only for another realization to hit me. 'How the fuck am I supposed to type with these?' I pondered for a moment, trying to find the best way to go about my newest predicament. I started by tapping a paw on the screen and dragging it up, and to my surprise, it accepted the touch and showed the number pad for the password. I face pawed 'How am I supposed to be precise with these big fluffy paws?'

I then noticed that each of my little paws had small, very hard-to-see claws sticking out of them. I decided to try using them to touch the screen, and fortunately, the screen accepted the input and didn't get crushed on impact… The only issue was that the claw wasn't far enough away from the rest of my paw, so it accepted multiple inputs at once, stating that I had gotten the password wrong after one tap. I remembered back to how cats were able to retract and extend their claws at will and began trying to focus on my right paw, trying to extend my claws. After a couple of failed attempts, I finally managed to extend them, and tried to enter the password yet again… Only for my claws to now be in the way, and causing me to tap another four numbers, counting as another failed attempt. 'Alright, having none of them out makes them too close to my paws, but having them all extended makes them too long and just dangle there. Maybe if I…?' I began focusing on my right paw again. My goal was to see if I was able to control which digits had their respective claws extended, and after another minute or so, I managed to retract all but one claw allowing me to successfully enter the password without any misclicks. 'There HAS to be an easier way to do that.'

With my phone now unlocked, I opened up Discord again and went back to messages. Sky hadn't said anything since his last message but was actively typing as I reread the message, trying to keep myself calm.

'Nv u ok'

'That's odd, he never writes his sentences so disjointedly' I wondered as I began writing my response. It took a while to get the hang of it, but I was soon able to type somewhat of a sentence, albeit slowly.

'Kinda? It's hard to explain, but I have changed quite a bit.'

'Why are you typing like that btw?'

I then waited for a short time for his response, which took a lot longer than usual. 'I hope he's ok' I thought, as a new message came through.

'me 2 i become mon'

As I read his message, my heart raced 'he became a Pokemon too!?' I realized I wasn't alone in this, wondering how many others were affected by this. I then began typing again.

'I became a Sylveon, but I have white and purple fur, what the heck happened to us?'

I typed that last part as though he would have the answers, but sadly, he was just as confused as me, and he stated as much.

'no clue fur yellow look like jolteon'

'A Jolteon hey?' I mused, realizing that was his favorite Pokemon. My mind kept going back and forth on what to say next.

'Was anyone else affected?'

'saw no 1 all ran'

I began worrying if it was an isolated incident, but then it struck me that my family may have also been affected. My family consists of my mom, my dad, my sister Naomi, and my little brother Troy. My sister was only a couple years younger than me, but my little brother was only two.

'How will you get home?'

'home not far will walk'

'gotta go see people panic'

'Ok, stay safe, love you'

I replied as I put my phone back on the bedside table. I stood up, looking around the room, still getting used to my now more limited sight. I noticed my ears perk up and start moving as I heard a noise coming from my sister and brother's room. It sounded like someone was awake and a little restless. I quickly but carefully hopped off my bed as I looked at my door. 'Oh, now that's gonna be an issue' I thought as I looked at how tall the door was, and more importantly how high up the door handle was. As luck would have it, my left bedside table was right next to the door, and even better still, it was at a height where I didn't even need to stretch to reach the handle. Jumping up onto the bed once more and stepping onto the bedside table, I slowly lowered the handle to unlatch it, then tried pulling the door inward to open it. The door took more effort to open than I would have liked, but after around thirty seconds, I was on the floor and walking out.

I peered left, looking towards my parents' room, to see if their door was open. Luckily, the door was still shut and I heard snoring coming from the room, even louder than normal. 'That's gonna take some getting used to too' I thought as I looked down towards the other end of the hallway. As I walked towards my siblings' room, I noticed that the floor did not have as much of an effect on my paws, in fact, I could barely feel the wooden floorboards beneath me. 'Wow, seems like my paws aren't too sensitive either?' I took a look at one of my paws and noticed that there was a small pad on the bottom, that had little to no feeling when I touched it. 'I'm gonna need to take some time getting used to how this new body works later. First, my siblings.' As I arrived at the door, I thanked my lucky stars that they always left the door to their room open, since my sister had a fear of it being shut.

I peered into the room, and looked into my brother's crib, only to see two beady eyes of a brownish color staring back at me. The once young toddler now had what appeared to be a white underbelly, with light brown fur over most of his body except the tips of his hands, which looked more like paws, which were a darker reddish-brown color. His face had also changed to be much more like a canine, or a fox, with fur that was the same as the rest of his body, except the tip of his muzzle, which was closer to the color of his paws. Finally, he had a tail, scratch that, two of them, which curled beautifully and were the same color as his paws also. On closer inspection, his eyes were closer to the color of an ember, being a cooler shade of orange.

"Hello! Can we play?" The question caught me off guard, due to it being quite loud and not being a question I was expecting at this time of night. I looked over to my parents' room, hearing the snoring stop as I started to panic.

"Shh, not right now" I replied, trying to get him to quieten down.

"Aww, why not?" He then gave me the biggest puppy dog eyes I've ever seen, but I had to be strong, at least for now.

"Because mommy and daddy are trying to sleep, and if you wake daddy, he won't let you play at all" At that moment I heard him stand and get out of his bed, making me panic even more. I then looked to my little brother, who looked scared, then replied in a quiet and scared voice.

"W-Why not?"

"Because he can be very grumpy if woken up at night, now get under the covers and pretend to be asleep, I'll try to play in the morning, ok?" He nodded as I kissed him on the forehead and he quickly got under the covers. I quickly glanced over to my sister, who seemed to be unaffected as she looked the exact same as always, then quickly ran to my room and shut the door. I quickly jumped onto my bed with a deft thud as I had misjudged my jump and slightly tripped, landing face-first once more. I scrambled to my paws as I began moving my pillows around before hopping off my bed on the other side and hiding under it. A moment later, I heard my door open, and my dad walked in. Now, I wasn't really scared of my dad because of him finding out I had become a Pokemon specifically, but rather that I had changed at all, whether or not I meant to or had any control. My dad had never really liked me ever since I decided to change my gender from male to female, saying that I was betraying him by changing who I was to become something different. Since then he has treated me like nothing more than a stranger, another mouth to feed until I was old enough to move out. He had even told me that if I ever changed again, he would fully disown me. I held my breath as he peered in, taking one look at my bed then closing the door and walking down the hall. A moment later, he came back past my door and went back to his room, as I breathed a sigh of relief.

Speaking of family, I've always liked my sister, she has shown me more kindness than anyone, even when my dad would lock me out after a late night of helping out at the local homeless shelter, breaking up fights every other week, and making sure everyone was healthy before coming home. My sister would come outside, and while she couldn't let me in due to my father being controlling and getting mad whenever I was let in in the past, my sister always made me a hot cup of milo and brought me blankets so I wouldn't be so cold. I was so glad she didn't go through the same pain I just did. But then there's my mother, she is not very good at being a mother, to say the least. She is a "Yes" woman, so to speak, where she always agrees with my dad no matter how badly he treats me. Up until then, I didn't really think much of my little brother. Sure, I loved him for who he was, made sure to care for him and protect him, even taking the blame if he damaged something, but he hadn't really shown much personality, which was to be expected.

I decided to try out how difficult it would be to do some of the more simple, day-to-day tasks that I would need to perform moving forward. I walked back to my laptop and turned it on, putting my front paws on the desk for extra stability. I logged into the laptop and brought up Google Chrome with my mouse, then looked at BBC News, which I found to be the most reliable source of news from around the world. As I suspected, there were already a couple of articles regarding this event, one of which had a video that I decided to watch with subtitles.

"Hello. This morning, we at BBC News bring you breaking news. You are likely wondering what has happened to some of your loved ones,"

'Wow, looks like this is a global thing, good to know we weren't the only ones' I thought to myself. I then took a look at the time, which read 2:15 am, 'I should go to sleep soon, so I guess I'll sleep once this is done, maybe hide my phone just in case.' I paused the video, grabbed my phone and hid it in a bag in my closet, then returned to my seat and clicked resume.

"These former humans have appeared to have transformed into creatures from the hit phenomenon game most people know as 'Pokemon'. At this time, neither Nintendo or Game Freak have commented on this matter."

'Damn, this must be hard for them, considering we look identical, aside from a couple of differences, to the Pokemon in the games.' I kept watching, keeping an ear out in case my dad decided to come back while I was watching the video.

"The British Government has warned the public to stay clear and be cautious of these so-called Pokemon. We do not know at this time whether this is a contagious pandemic, nor do we know if they are capable of using their magical powers."

'Magical powers? What are we, some kind of mythical creatures?' I stopped myself and giggled to myself 'I guess we kinda are'

"We are currently ruling out the possibility of this grand event being punishment from the great beyond."

'I can see why some would think that, but if it's a punishment or reward, it is honestly up to the individual! So I highly doubt that it would have even been a possibility.'

"We do not have detailed reports yet, but within the last hour, the country of Hungary has effectively collapsed into anarchy due to this event… We can simply assume that some areas have been affected more than others."

'Oh my, I hope Omaha doesn't end up that way!' I paused the video and went over the discord app on my laptop to see if Sky had said anything new, which he hadn't. 'Welp, looks like either it is anarchy, or he's fine, but I better tell him what I've found just in case.' I then proceeded to type out a message to him that took way longer than I thought.

'Sky I have an update. This is worldwide. Everyone knows we are Pokemon. The British government says we are dangerous. Telling family to stay away just in case and Hungary is in anarchy'

As I finished and sent the message, I heard a creek from outside my door. I quickly closed my laptop's lid, but a moment later, my dad walked in and looked around, seeing me sitting there on the seat. I gave an awkward wave as I knew I was screwed, and he walked right up to me, his eyes wide with shock? No, it seemed more likely to be pure rage and hatred. He said nothing and simply grabbed me hard by the neck, then took me into our laundry, then grabbed a collar and leash that we had spare from our last pet. He then spoke in a deep, clearly groggy but also very serious tone. 'I have warned you in the past, but I'm feeling nice, so I will simply keep you as my bitch!' He then tied me up to a steel pipe and threw me to the ground, and slammed the door, as I passed out from the pain of the impact.

Phew, I wrote the entire rewrite in one night, so you'll be seeing this version of it the day after it was written. I hope I was able to improve the story a bit, I certainly made it longer by around 1300 words, so that's something at least. Anyway, I will hopefully get around to writing more the day this is released, and who knows? Maybe chapter two will be edited in a day as well? Either way, hope you either enjoyed the chapter or the rewrite depending on when you found my story, and I hope to see you again soon! Nova out.
