Disclaimer: I DO NOT own Avatar The Last Airbender Or Ben 10 OR any of the characters. But I do own this story.
Note: This starts at season 2 of ben 10 alien force episode 2 alone together. Azula 16, Kevin 17. Ben and company are fighting the High Breed and Ben is not the one that gets warped away. This is my first story, love it, or hate it. I don't care but I'd appreciate any constructive criticism. The whole reason I decided to write this crossover is that I want to encourage others to do the same as both of the shows are amazing.
Kevin Levin is not your average teenager. At 17 years old he is already 6'2 with a solid build that betrays his actual strength. He is an osmosian with the ability to absorb energies, materials, you name it. He is also dubbed the baddest kid in town by his peers. He is extremely knowledgeable in anything technological whether it be human or alien. Enjoys upgrading vehicles, driving, and especially fighting. Many enemies made from his time served in the null void being a conman. Famous for roguish charm, decent jokes, and arrogance. Kevin Levin is a one-man army that is about to be unleashed on the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
"Don't let him get in that thing, it's a teleporter pod!" Shouts Kevin as he throws a rock at the portal instantly regretting that oh man why did I just do that! Kevin thinks to himself.
"You fool, you have damaged the transmission field!" Snaps the high breed commander.
Kevin rolls his eyes, "oh no really I didn't realize that. Thanks for the heads up ugly." Do all highbreed feel the need to state the obvious.
"Don't mock me you pathetic mongrel!" The highbreed commands. Why do I lower myself to conversing with pests, less talk more eradication Reinrassig the III?
"Oh, that's not good." The damaged portal strikes Kevin instead of Ben and the Highbreed.
"Kevin!" Shouts Gwen and Ben simultaneously.
"That's one less mongrel to worry about." The highbreed says dismissively. "You have already wasted far too much of my valuable time." The highbreed says before planning his getaway. But karma had another idea and sent him and Echo-Echo to a desert world.
Azula soon to be the crown princess of the fire nation. Is the daughter of Prince Ozai and Princess Ursa of the fire nation. Great-granddaughter of Firelord Sozin(now past). Granddaughter of Firelord Azulon. Superior sibling to Prince Zuzu. Wielder of blue flames and youngest lightning bender in history. A true prodigy of the fire nation and Agni's most respected child. Strategic and manipulative genius, well skilled in everything she does. Considered to be a perfectionist as failure is intolerable. Besides the long list of titles, she is also known as the crown jewel of the fire nation skills on par with natural beauty. She stands 5'6 feet tall at 16 years old, with an extremely fit physique. Fair skin and bright gold eyes. A very well rounded individual. Despite these undeniable truths, she is also socially awkward to the point of having few friends which in part is also because of her resistance to trust people. Abandoned by her mother and uncle she was left in the hands of her ruthless father. Because of him, she picked up a few negative traits. But soon she might meet a person who can turn things around for her. From this day forward her life will take a turn for the weird.
Instead of being sent to the desert world, Kevin warped into an alternate dimension earth. Similar to earth except for the fact that these people are capable of controlling the elements. Kevin has not entered the twilight zone, he has entered the world of Avatar.
Kevin wakes up with a pounding headache and his face is in the sand. Note to self, don't damage portals. His first observations are that he is on a beach wow it looks like paradise, as Kevin turns to look behind him he sees his car somehow got transported with him. Score! Haha at least my rides with me. Kevin runs to his car and runs his fingers along it. At least we still have each other, he thinks to the inanimate object. Kevin stops thinking about his ride long enough to get into it and start the engine. Hearing the engine turn on he relaxes a bit and then it hits him, WAIT NO BEN TENNYSON! THAT MEANS MY RIDE IS SAFE FROM HIM. Wow this could be considered a vacation, sandy beach, nobody to wreck my car, not dodging lasers at the moment. Ok Kev you have spent enough time daydreaming and ... looking down at the wet spot on his shirt … and drooling. As he cruises down the beach he finds a lot of beach houses lined up; then spots the beachgoers playing a game of volleyball. Kevin steps out of his car to feel the breeze and relax a bit. This is nice … He is torn from his relaxation all of a sudden when a ball heads towards him and hits dead center on his face. You just had to jinx yourself. He picks it up and tells the players, "you get your ball back when you tell me where I am." They explain that he is in the fire nation on ember island. Kevin nods his head "thanks." He then pops the ball and flings it at them chuckling at their mad expressions. The rest of the beachgoers are amazed at what he is riding in, the most advanced thing there is to ride are the tank trains that were recently invented and even those can't compete with the sleek design of Kevin's car. As he continues down the beach Kevin finds a stand that is selling maps of the fire nation. He notices the stand keeper yelling at a woman. Good to know this world has jerks like my own world.
"Sir I have never seen a map so ridiculously expensive!" The woman says calmly.
"That's 50 yuans! A good map is expensive woman!" The stand keeper yells at her statement. "I doubt you can see anything witch!"
Kevin frowns seeing this elderly woman being harassed. Obviously a conman, I am one hundred percent sure that maps don't cost that much. He taps the woman on the shoulders, "It is your lucky day miss. Maps are going to be free of charge." He says with a smile before scowling at the merchant. "Give me two maps creep."
"That will be 12 yuans. Each" The merchant says trying to scam Kevin knowing that he is not local. "You won't get a better deal anywhere else!" The merchant says with a crooked smile.
"What? That is ridiculous! So you sell me a map for 12 but this lady here you told her 50?!" Kevin bluffs not actually knowing how much these maps are worth. "Look here I know your type, I've seen them before. I am one but hey want to know the difference between me and you?" He asks with a menacing glare that promises a lot of pain. "I've been playing this game a lot longer than you," Kevin says cracking his neck.
"I-I have no idea what you are talking about! I gave you the deal of a lifetime!" The merchant blurts out trying to regain his composure and act tough. "Don't make me hurt you, i-i'll k-kill you!" He shouts with a terrible fighting stance.
Calling his obvious bluff. "Look here pall I don't have any money so how about we make a deal. In exchange for the map, I won't put you in the hospital." Kevin says as he absorbs the wooden post before picking up a rock and crushing it in his fist. "Do we have a deal?" Asks Kevin as he clenches his fist forming a mallet, the merchant nods his head so fast that it looks as if he is currently having a seizure. As Kevin walks away he glances over his shoulder and says "don't try to con another con got that? And if I hear about you harassing women again, I'll be back and this time I'll send you home in pieces." Kevin then goes to the elderly woman who watched the whole thing with wide eyes. "Here, take it. That idiot and I reached a fair agreement alright?"
"Thank you so much! That guy is notorious for mistreating women!" She says fearfully looking back at the merchant.
"Oh is that right?" Kevin asks before strutting back to the table. "HEY LOSER!"
"W-what do you want!? I did all that you asked!" He shouts fearfully.
"Tough luck man. I got an anonymous tip that you like harassing and mistreating women." Kevin says angrily. "I don't like wife beaters!" Kevin yells as he absorbs the wood on his stand, the merchants fear rises exponentially as the wood coats his entire body. "I have news for you, bad news. Sorry to tell you but you just ran out of business."
"Who are you to tell me that!" The merchant foolishly forgetting whom he is speaking to throws a rock at Kevin only to have it harmlessly bounce off his chest. "I-it was an accident! That woman over there must be a witch!"
"I only see one accident here. YOU! Treat women with respect." Kevin shouts in his face before kicking his stand with enough force that he sends it flying.
"NOOO! Not my contraband … erm I mean merchandise!" The merchant says crying profusely. "That was the greatest scam I ever pulled!" The merchant says watching in horror as his stand hit the ground and exploded into broken pieces of wood and ripped maps.
"Oh, one last thing. The charge for being a jerk is more than you can afford." Kevin says as he takes his sack of gold. "I'll be back to check up on you. Mind your manners jerk." He has already caught the attention of a crowd and they cheered seeing the community's local scam artist get played. Kevin then shouts out "the names Kevin Levin! Remember that and make sure to tell me if he goes back to his old ways. I'll be back, keep an eye on that amateur."
The woman thanks him graciously, as do several other women. "That was so brave muscles." Says a cute girl in a crimson bikini as she clings to his right arm.
He brushes her off nervously. All I did was teach an amateur a lesson. Why does that get so much attention around here? "Yeah it was nothing, just make him tell me when I come back if he does anything else." I gotta get out of here, these girls are a little nuts. Maybe I need to teach people the lesson of personal space?
This whole exchange was noticed by a certain princess. How interesting, a person with an ability to absorb materials, she thinks to herself as she pursues the stranger. Kevin hears the sound of footsteps and whips around. Kevin doesn't know what to expect. He wonders if the merchant actually grew a spine but dismisses that thought. He is dumb but definitely values his life. When Kevin turns around his mind stalls. He stops and stares at the raven-haired beauty fast approaching.
Quickly regaining his composure he asks "can I help you?" This beach has some hot babes Kevin thinks to himself.
"Why yes you can, peasant. I saw what you did and wanted to ask you some questions." Replies Azula.
Kevin ignores the barb and states, "it's rude to ask questions before you give your name, I am Kevin Levin."
"I suppose it is, well then I should let you know that you are speaking to crown princess Azula of the fire nation." She says while casually examining her nails.
"Sounds important," Kevin says sarcastically before turning around and walking away. He would have kept walking if it weren't for the smell of burning hair. Looking down he discovers the source, his pants leg. "What the! Hey cut it out will ya!" He yells as he pats out the fire. "What the …, do you mind leaving me alone?" He was about to continue but noticing the blue flames covering her hand opts to shut up and listen. "I'm all ears," he says through gritted teeth.
"That's more like it, you do NOT walk away from me understand?" Azula asks violently, there better not be a next time. "Like I said I have questions for you and to avoid becoming a pile of ash in the sand I advise you to shut up and listen simpleton." Why do I even bother sometimes it's so impossible to hold a conversation with brutes like him.
"Ok 'princess' let's talk in the car it's like 90 degrees out." He says as he is getting into the driver's seat.
Before they begin she has to congratulate him but also see something for herself. I swear if he thinks all girls need protecting I will burn him worse than Zuko. "I like how you put a scumbag like that in the dirt."
Levin simply shrugs off her praise, "honestly it is whatever. I don't like seeing someone take from the elderly."
"Oh, so it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that she is a woman?" She asks, masking her rising anger. He is about to reveal his true colors.
"No." He replies. "Women are perfectly capable of defending themselves. Shoot, I've met tons of girls that can crumple me up into a wad of paper and toss me in the trash." Kevin explains with a laugh. Lets see ma vreedle, Gwen Tennyson, Looma Red Wind, a few from the null void, yeah there have been a lot of dangerous ladies.
Azula's eyes widened in surprise, how unexpected. Her respect for Kevin grew tenfold. "Good answer boy." She says in approval. Well, at least he won't match Zuzu now.
"I am not sexist if that is what you were expecting," Kevin says shortly. "Now that can't be the main reason you are here, what is it that you want?"
Good, he stays focused and gets to the point. "Just a few questions and maybe an offer," Azula says.
Kevin perks up, "I'm listening, get into the car." Like any ex con Kevin knows to listen to offers.
As she gets into the passenger's seat she notices how advanced this machine is, and how cool air seems to be pouring in from vents. This thing he rides seems like a good place to start the interrogation. If he does not answer truthfully I'm sure the palace dungeons will change his mind to see reason. "Yes, that's one of the questions I was going to ask, what is this? It's like nothing I have ever seen."
"This is my ride. What don't you have cars?" Kevin asks with a raised brow. I already guessed that this world was less advanced but seriously, no cars?
"No, I have never seen anything like this, the most advanced machines for transportation are tank trains, but we are working on zeppelins." Informs Azula before running her hand along the dash, "I do like this though."
"You like stuff like this?" Kevin asks before realizing his mistake, "oh yeah right." Kevin says rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah, this stuff is like a hobby for me, cars, building, auto shows."
"You built this machine- I mean car?" She asks while feeling her respect for the stranger rise even more. This person is full of pleasant surprises. "Interesting."
"Yeah well I enjoy upgrading and tinkering with cars, I even made this car submersible." Kevin says before elaborating, "no I didn't build the car but I definitely could if I had all the parts. I added all the accessories though. Some of which may or may not be street legal." He says the last part with a smug grin on his face. The reverse calibrated lepton transducer is banned in 12 solar systems, but also perfectly legal in three.
"Right… moving on, how did you absorb the wooden stand?" She says slowly.
"Oh yeah, that. I can absorb energy of basically any kind but absorbing materials is the safest way." Kevin replies, "I'm not surprised you have never heard of it before, the only other person I have heard of that has my powers was my father. It is super rare."
"What do you mean by the safest way?" Says Azula with a questioning look.
"Well if I steal powers it tends to cause insanity. I don't really want to talk about that." He says evasively while tugging on the front of his shirt nervously. "It brings back bad memories that I'd rather not think of right now."
"Fair enough." She complies, before asking the next question. "You don't look like you're from any of the four nations." Azula says studying the sturdy built, tall, raven-haired guy with fair skin. It May not look like he is from any nation but still looks like he sure is eye candy. Wait eye candy? Where did that come from?!. Azula thinks before slightly blushing.
"That's because I'm not. Look I can't explain everything, not that you would believe me anyway so let's just say I am from some small village in the fire kingdom?"Kevin says completely butchering the name. What even are the four nations?
"Fire nation. Alright, I have come to a decision, you will accompany me to the capital of the fire nation caldera and make your way to the royal palace." Azula says leaving no room for argument.
"Where is that?" Asks Kevin palace huh, I'm sure getting the 'royal treatment' Kevin thinks while grinning. Ok fire nation? What next water land? Earth metropolis? He thinks almost causing him to laugh out loud.
"Use the map you stole." Azula unfolds the map and points to a city that looks like it's in the crater of a volcano. "Any more questions Kevin." She asks rhetorically.
"I didn't steal it for your information. I just struck a mutual agreement with the keeper. He accepted knowing that I would snap his arms like twigs if he didn't." Kevin says humorously. "And yeah, who in their right mind would build a city in a volcanic crater. Besides the fact it's a volcano, those things are real heat traps."
Azula grins, "yes I do like the way you handled that exchange." She admits before answering his question, "the fire nation has to use all available land and while yes it is a real heat sink, it also provides walls that keep out invasions."
"Yeah, that makes sense but sheesh it's hot out here, can't wait to see how hot it is inside Caldera," Before Kevin follows her orders he stops himself. "Wait why exactly am I listening to you?" Kevin questions dubiously. "It's not that I don't trust you at all yet but I don't trust you at all yet."
"Because if you don't I will burn you for a crisp." She dryly informs him as she summons blue flames on her fingertips. Kevin stares wide-eyed at first but then remembers he used to be able to shoot flames himself thanks to absorbing the energy from Ben's watch and shrugs.
"Alright looks like the fastest way from ember island to the caldera is by water. Good thing I made this beauty submersible." He says as he pats the wheel. "Oh by the way buckle up." Kevin says as he proceeds to demonstrate what he means by 'buckle up'. He hits the accelerator and uses his plumber's badge to open a secret compartment on the dash. He hits the button that enables the car to go submersible. "Like what you see?" He says with a cocky smile. Azula doesn't respond at first as she is way too shocked to form any words, she eventually settles for nodding her head yes. The rest of the ride is the same until they get to the great gates of Azulon.
"What is that." He asked, amazed as the gates rose from beneath the waves and ignited. How in the name of Vilgax do they manage to do that?
"That right there my shoe shining acquaintance is the great gates of Azulon. And that grate being lifted also means that the alarm has been activated. Let me handle the talking." Kevin rolls down the window just enough for Azula to explain to the patrol to let down the gate without flooding the car with water. A few minutes later the gates were lowered. And they were on dry land. "Alright now take the ramp-up to the palace. And try not to run over the citizens please." Azula says before adding "I don't want to be slowed down of course."
At the fire nation palace, they unbuckle and get out of the vehicle so Kevin can lock it. "Wow, this is pretty cool." Kevin admits It is the image of royalty alright. Luxurious gardens, royal halls, fancy engravings. Could use a little bit less red though. He thinks once he sees the red walls everywhere, definitely has to get used to their color scheme. Actually it kinda reminds me of the permanently blood red sky in the null void.
"Remember when you meet the Firelord, my father, make sure to say that you are from a small fire nation village of Hira'a." She informs him. "Follow me, peasant." She commands as she sets off at a brisk pace to the throne room. Kevin rolls his eyes and follows. As they are about to enter the palace they are stopped by the guards until Azula glares at them.
Realizing their mistake they kneel immediately and plead "sorry your majesty we did not recognize you without your armor, please forgive us."
"Rise." Azula orders. "As you were, he is with me." And they make way for the pair.
Once they were out of earshot Kevin jests "I could take them while wearing a blindfold."
Azula rolls her eyes, "whatever wait here I need to change into more suitable clothing before we meet with the Firelord." Out of the corner of her eyes, she notices a frown but thinks nothing of it until he says.
"That's too bad you look good in swimwear." Kevin realizes what he says blushes immediately. Azula does too but turns around before he could see it.
Regaining her composure she purrs alluringly, "of course you would, I am after all a princess, what's not to like with all of the flair and elegance." This causes Kevin to blush a shade darker. She closes the door to her room and questions what in the name of agni just happened. She casts that thought aside quickly and thinks that he is just playing with her, but she couldn't help but remember how much he was blushing. She quickly gets dressed into more formal clothing, and exits her room; it's a short walk to the throne room and she instructs him to wait outside while she requests a meeting with the Firelord. Kevin leans against a nearby wall waiting for her to come back out and thinks about how odd this day has been. Before he could really ponder over what was happening she steps out and bids him to follow her and do exactly what she does.
As Kevin walks into the throne room he is immediately starstruck by the wall of flames and a figure with a golden crown sitting on top of the said throne. He notices Azula kneeling and opts not to follow her instructions as if I'm going to kneel for some random king he scoffs, instead he stands tall and waits. Firelord Ozai, noticing this disrespect grows angry which in turn causes the flame wall to rise. "Azula, why have you brought this insolent whelp into the throne room," Ozai demands. Kevin notices that Azula is nervous and feels slightly bad about it. Before she could respond to the vexed Firelord Kevin interrupted arrogantly.
"This whelp can hear you," Kevin shouts, not caring about the consequences.
"You would speak to me even though you have not been addressed?!" Shouts Ozai turning his glare towards the teen.
"Yeah, I would! I'll speak whenever and wherever I want to!" He retorts. "What are you going to do about it?"
At this point, the flames are starting to lick at the ceiling. The Firelord positively fuming at this point stands up and shouts "Silence! Don't you dare disrespect me, peasant I will reduce you to ashes!"
"If I were you I wouldn't threaten a guy who can kick your can halfway up the street and back," Kevin says getting ready to start taking names.
"Your death is imminent, filthy commoner." The Firelord says while igniting his fists. "You're not fit to scrub the servants quarters, I will use this opportunity to make an example of those who mock me." The Firelord says forebodingly.
"Yeah, yeah, you're not the only one with powers. Since I can absorb anything, I've got more than enough power to take it," Kevin smirks as he absorbs the stone floor. The Firelord is shocked as he has never seen anyone with the ability to absorb stone. Fortunately for Kevin, this gives him just enough time to strike first. Kevin grabs the ground and starts lifting the tiles, muscles straining. Once the floor is raised high enough he slams the flooring back down; sending a wave of stone tiles flying towards the Firelord. Firelord snaps out of his shock too but does so too late. The wave of debris hits him with enough force to stop a car and sends him flying past his throne to slam into the wall. "And that's what happens when you mess with me!" Kevin arrogantly states. Meanwhile, Azula cannot believe what she just witnessed, the sheer power required to lift the stone flooring is immense; not to mention the fact that nobody has ever managed to defeat her father except Azulon. But not even Azulon managed to knock out Ozai, Kevin smiles as he walks towards her and she cannot help but nervously return it. He reaches down and helps her up. "Enjoyed the show princess?"
She begrudgingly admits that he would make an excellent addition to the fire nation military, maybe even a spot as her personal guard. "It was acceptable, don't let it go to your head fool."
"Oh come on it was pretty cool," Kevin says as he kisses his biceps. "Kevin, you continue to be the baddest around."
"If you say so." She says with her trademark smirk. "When father wakes up I have an offer to make."
"Does this offer involve me?" Kevin asks, starting to feel the effects of adrenaline wear off.
She rolls her eyes, "how perceptive. Yes it does I would like to appoint you as my personal bodyguard, you are … above average." She explains.
"Are we talking about my looks or skills?" He grins before pointing out, "hey not so sure it's a good idea to ask your boss for a job after slamming him against a wall. But that's just me."
"Don't flatter yourself, I find you unbearable in both categories." Teased the princess before clarifying "and normally you would be right but I can be very persuasive. Also, you show immense power, something people of the fire nation respect tremendously."
"So, when is his kingliness going to wake up?" Kevin inquires.
They both hear a groan and then dark chuckling; the laughter could only be described as purely forced to keep face. "Very good, yes you will do." Proclaims Firelord Ozai. "You have done something nobody has ever managed to do. I respect your talent, now what is the purpose of this meeting Azula."
"As you can see father I have found someone most interesting. I believe he would make an excellent bodyguard don't you?" She pleads before continuing "I didn't have to cut my vacation short but you have taught me always to capitalize on opportunities." She reasons with him using his ego to further her case.
"As usual you continue to impress me. I send you on a vacation and you find a capable fighter; If only your brother could be as impressive and not a failure."
"Of course, not everyone can be a prodigy like me." She says with a sly grin.
"Never have truer words been spoken." Concurs Ozai. "I agree because as we come to the tail end of the war I would imagine that our enemies would be desperate enough to engage you in combat. Very well I accept, what is your name boy?"
"Kevin Levin, your highness." He responds saying your highness in a sarcastic tone.
"Yes, don't let that victory go to your head child, I am the Firelord everyone answers to me. Show respect." Ozai instructs the princesses' newly appointed bodyguard. "Very well if that is all I have more important matters to attend, begone." Commands the Firelord. This boy might just be the key to victories in the earth kingdom, hmm I wonder how I could manipulate him. Ozai thinks while rubbing his temples.
Azula bows, "as you wish father." She leads Kevin to her room and before they enter she dismisses the guard telling him that she has a new bodyguard. The guard nods and heads off to receive new orders. Once inside the princess actually lets a genuine smile show briefly, "that was amazing! I've never seen anyone stand up to father like that." She says as she sits on the side of this big bed. Noticing that he is still standing she pats the spot next to her "come sit." Kevin complies and blushes due to their close proximity before responding.
"It was nothing, so why did I not get to decline whether I want to be a bodyguard or not?"
Azula frowns, "if you don't want to be you don't have to. But you just stood there, I didn't hear you complaining."
"It's fine, I'm glad to be here, sounds like fun, although what's this about a war being almost over." He asks inquisitively.
Azula looks at him like he was a child. "Don't tell me you have never heard of the one hundred years war that is currently happening." And here I was impressed a moment ago she scolded herself inside her mind.
"Like I said I'm not from around here." Kevin sighs "since it won't make any sense to you I don't want to explain where I am from."
"Try me, peasant." Challenges Azula. During her time as the princess of the most advanced nation in the world, she thinks she has heard it all.
"You asked for it." Kevin states. "I'm from an alternate dimension." He explains and when he sees her 'are you kidding me look' says "I am being serious."
"Okay, how did you get here then hmm?" She asks, still not believing him in the slightest. I am a strategic genius and people person how dare he lie. She thinks but then corrects herself seeing as he does not appear to be lying. None of the telltale signs of a liar are present, she ponders.
"I was fighting a highbreed commander." She stares with a blank expression. "An alien?" Still clueless. "Ugh, something that was from another planet." Kevin groans beyond frustrated.
"You should have just said that. As far as I am concerned there are no 'aliens' coming to this planet." She explains. This person might be insane or actually is being honest. I'm leaning more towards madness.
He rubs his face. "Well while me and my friends Ben and Gwen were fighting it, it tried to escape by activating a teleporter pod." Sighing because he realized she does not know all this advanced terminology. "A machine that allows you to go from one location to another in seconds."
She nods "you may continue." If this is true, imagine the untold power of this machine. I could end the war in a day by teleporting soldiers into major cities strategically toppling each opposing power, she thinks animated. I still don't believe this though.
"Right so I tried to stop him by throwing a boulder, only I missed and hit the pod instead. The damage caused it to send me and somehow my ride to wherever this is." He finishes and starts looking around.
The princess nods seeming to find his explanation acceptable but very weird. "That's very interesting. I'll admit but how do you plan on getting back?" She asks before narrowing her eyes, he has got to be lying.
"I don't plan on getting back. Maybe Ben can use one of his aliens to figure something out but I doubt it." Kevin admits but then notices her shoulders seem to relax very slightly. Does she like my company? If so that was fast.
"Well, peasant you are welcome to sleep on the couch in here." She informs him, taking Kevin completely by surprise.
"Wait don't I get my own room? Not that I would mind…erm." He stutters, turning away to hide his blush. Kevin calm yourself.
With a red face, she responds. "Well as my bodyguard it is your job hence the name bodyguard to guard my person, now how would you be able to do that from another room?" She says like it's the most obvious thing in the world, which it kinda is.
Kevin notices her blushing but decides to let it be for now. "Alright, anything I should know?"
"No the job is self-explanatory however I will inform you that Mai and Ty Lee will be coming over tomorrow, I believe it would be beneficial to meet them."
"Mai and Ty Lee? Are those friends or whatever?" Kevin asks already knowing her response just to avoid any awkward silence.
"My best friends from the fire nation royal academy for girls." She explains.
"Aww and here I thought I was your best friend, your majesty?" He teases.
"As I have most likely stated before, don't flatter yourself, peasant I find your company acceptable at most." She says while flicking one of the bangs that frame her face.
He waves his hand. "Whatever you say, so what are they like?"
"Well, Mai is a dark and gloomy girl who is an expert at throwing knives. She would probably like you." She tells Kevin.
"Why is that?" Kevin asks, slightly nervous. I don't care for dark and gloomy, I'd live in the null void still if I found that enjoyable.
"She finds guys like you attractive, you know dark and mysterious." She explains. "Moving on Ty Lee would most likely also try to hit on you." And he, like every other guy, would love her. She thinks disappointedly.
"What about you?" He says with a charming grin.
She blushes "wh-what! No, we are talking about Ty Lee." He didn't even ask more about Ty Lee!? Oh well, that's due to change when he meets her later.
"Bummer." He says quietly.
"What's that?" She asks curiously.
"Nothing." He quickly says.
"That is what I thought you said peasant anyway where was I? Oh yeah, Ty Lee is an acrobat that is exceptionally skilled at hand to hand combat. She specializes in chi blocking."
"Chi Blocking? What is that?" This dimension is so old school. And I was embarrassed to tell my friends I came from my dimension earth he thinks dryly.
"It's hard to explain but she can temporarily paralyze people from hitting certain spots." She explains. "I am not very good at it so I cannot show you but tomorrow you can see her do it if you want."
"Sounds like a plan but what about you? I barely know anything about you." Kevin inquires before adding, "you know since I'm your bodyguard and all that."
"I am a prodigy firebender and lightning bender. In fact, I am the youngest to ever master lightning bending. I am a skilled tactician and competent warrior. Does that answer your questions?"
"Yeah, that is pretty interesting." Kevin loves her arrogance, she is kinda similar to me. Too bad princesses would never consider someone like me. I'm probably too big of a peasant for her.
She smirks before gloating, "of course you would. I am a prodigy at everything I do. But don't worry, I find you intriguing as well." She reassures.
He responds in kind, "yeah who doesn't find me interesting? I'm awesome." He boasts, causing her to roll her eyes.
"So earlier you told me that your powers were risky to use, what did you mean by that?" Azula says as she stretches out across the bed arching her back not knowing the effect she is having on the teen. "Your drooling." She says bluntly.
Kevin's face flushes. "Oh yeah sorry about that Azula, you're pretty distracting, I mean hot, erm I mean I'll shut up now." Kevin's face at this point resembles the color of a tomato.
"Like what you see?" She says while fluttering her eyes seductively.
Kevin dodges the question."My powers, they have bad side effects if I go overboard."
"How would you go 'overboard'." She asks curiously.
"When I absorb too much power it causes insanity. For example, my friend Ben Tennyson has an Omnitrix, a watch that lets him turn into at the time ten different aliens. When I was eleven I did not have a good grip as to what consequences came with my powers. I was fighting Ben and tricked him into helping me; once he got close I grabbed onto his watch and absorbed its energy. It turned me into a freak after I kept transforming into those different aliens." Kevin says darkly. "I slowly went insane, and I went on a crime spree. I forgot how to change back. Eventually, I teamed up with an evil warlord villain named Vilgax; together we pursued Ben into the Null Void; The null void is a pocket dimension. Long story short Ben escaped, Vilgax and I were trapped in the worst place possible." Kevin has a haunted look on his face. As he continued to speak Azula noticed that he was unconsciously clenching his fists. "I was left to rot in a dimension where all the baddest of the bad criminals were dumped, always on the run, until I finally escaped after five long years. That's the danger of using my powers too much."
"I'm actually sorry to hear that." Says Azula softly. Then with a small huff. "Wait baddest of the bad criminals, right? What would qualify one for this 'Null Void'?" She asks before following up with "would I qualify?" I am one of the most powerful benders.
"No, you would not last with firebending alone. Trust me you're not as bad of a person as you play yourself out to be." He says before explaining "you're following orders from higher-ups in war. Most war criminals don't qualify for Null Void when a cell works just as well." He then tells her, "In my case very few cells could ever hold me." Kevin says with a frown. "Just take my word for it, it's not a place you ever want to be trapped for even a day."
Azula rarely feels bad for anyone but what Kevin went through at such a young age does invoke concern. "I'm sorry you had to go through that."
"Yeah don't be, I was lucky to get out and I'm still alive. I don't need pity." He gets a forlorn feeling, "not everyone was as lucky as I was, not Quarrel."
"Who's Quarrel?" She asks, noticing the pained, regretful look on his face.
"A friend that didn't get away," Kevin says sadly before adding. "A story for another day, I'm not really comfortable talking about him yet."
"Of course I understand," Azula says as she awkwardly puts a hand on his shoulder in what she thinks is a comforting gesture. I think this is how one would go about comforting another if only Ty Lee was here. She would know what to do.
"Well you're not the best at comforting gestures, but thanks." Says Kevin as he moves over to sleep on the couch. Little did Kevin know what the next day had in store for him; limbs paralyzed and being pinned to walls with sharp objects by a special duo that is an acrobat and assassin. Also known as friends of Azula: Mai and Ty Lee.
"Ugh, my back is a mess." Kevin groans as he wakes up and stretches. Due to being, Azula's bodyguard Kevin had to sleep on the couch in her room while she got to sleep on the king-sized bed with silk sheets. And here I thought I would be receiving the 'royal treatment' he thinks shaking his head.
Azula wakes up and stretches out on her luxurious bed. "I had a great night's sleep, I'm sure you did as well, servant." Quietly she thought that he was not bad company, he did snore a little but she found it oddly calming; not that she would ever admit it.
"Yeah, no doubt." He says sardonically. "Besides waking up with aching back what's not to love sleeping in the presence of royalty."
"Fair point, I will call in the servants to ready a bath for you." She calls out for a servant and soon three arrive. "Have a bath drawn." She demands and they immediately comply.
"It is ready, your majesty." Says the shortest of the three workers shyly.
"Dismissed, I shall call you when you're needed." She says disinterestedly and the servants file out of the room.
"Wow being a royal sure has its perks, sweet."
"Nothing but the best for the crown princess, naturally."
Kevin Takes off his shirt in front of her as he walks towards the baths. This does not go unnoticed by Azula and she finds herself staring at his muscular physique. The spell over her breaks as he closes the door, shaking her head she focuses on getting dressed for the day. Right after she takes off her robes the door opens and Kevin gets an eyeful of pale skin and a very fit physic with soft curves. He immediately turns around and apologies. "Uh sorry, I just realized that I'll need a change of clothes." She throws his shirt and hits him in the head with it. Without saying a word he closes the door and cleans himself.
As Azula gets finished dressing she finds herself wondering if he finds her attractive. She dismisses it immediately thinking nobody likes monsters. She shouts for servants and soon two arrive, bow, and await orders. "Get breakfast for me and my bodyguard, make it fast." They scurry away fully knowing that it is extremely unwise to leave the princess waiting. After five minutes they return and set it on the coffee table. "Comb my hair and then begone." She demands as she eats some yogurt. The servants finish and file out, shortly after there is a knock on the door and a voice informs that Mai and Ty Lee have arrived. "Send them in" she yells.
Moments later the door opens and she feels herself being hugged from behind. "Azula!" Says Ty Lee. Mai Just nods a greeting. She greets them both in turn when they all hear noise from the bathroom. Mai and Ty Lee give her a curious look and moments later Kevin comes out with nothing more than a towel wrapped around his waist. "Ooh, who is the cutie?" Says Ty Lee as she gives a cute wave.
"My new bodyguard, don't harass him, Ty," Azula tells her knowingly.
Ty Lee with a frown says "but he is so cute!" Mai rolls her eyes but even she admits that he is good looking, however, she likes Zuko.
Kevin hollers, "I am not cute! I am handsome for your information."
"Whatever you say," Ty Lee says with a wink before telling him. "I still think you look like a snack."
"Put a shirt on fool" demands Azula with a blush. Mai being very observant sees this and wonders if Azula actually has a crush on him. Ty Lee oblivious as ever does not catch on to this.
"Yeah whatever, I can't have you being distracted by my roguish charm." He grins as he enters the bathroom.
Azula angrily yells, "there was nothing to look at!" Moments later he comes out and eats the breakfast that's growing cold at the coffee table. She left the chicken-bacon and the scrambled ostrich horse eggs for him. After breakfast the group of four exits to the practice arena. "Girls as you know I have acquired a bodyguard and I would like him to demonstrate what he is capable of." She announces and then nods to Kevin.
"Watch and learn ladies," he says with a confident grin as he absorbs the stone foundation. The girls watch in awe as he morphs his stone hands into sharp curved blades. "Cool right, I'm able to absorb anything whether it's energy or materials, and make it my own." Mai threw a knife at him only to have it chip at the stone layer covering his body. Kevin is impressed at not only the speed at which she did but also the accuracy. He picks it up with his right hand and starts absorbing. Soon his right hand and part of his arm is made of metal the rest of his body stone.
"Why did you stop?" Mai wonders curiously.
"I didn't stop, there just was not enough metal to cover me entirely," Kevin explains. "I need a lot of what I'm absorbing if that makes any sense, hold on." He says as he pulls out his car keys and presses a button on them. Pretty soon his car pulls up automatically. "Auto Pilot." Is all he says.
Ty Lee asks "what is that?"
"This is my ride." Kevin proudly states before proceeding to recite the changes he made to the vehicle. "I modified it so it has: Khoros-5 engine block, with a liquid oxygen tank for its afterburners, booster rockets, autopilot, variable G offset modulator, and a few other gizmos I swiped and/or acquired here and there. I even made it submersible."
"We have no idea what any of that means but okay." Says Mai with a bored expression.
Kevin enters the car and rolls down the driver's seat window. "Well hop in I'll take you ladies for a ride,'' Kevin calls. Ty Lee goes to sit up front next to Kevin but he stops her "Azula sits up front with me." Causing Azula to blush and get out to switch places with Ty Lee. After they get settled Kevin proceeds to tell them to 'buckle up' and demonstrates what he means. Starting 'his ride' he proceeds to push a button on the dash that transforms his car into an offroad vehicle. (Ben 10 Alien Force Season 3 Episode 8, if all else fails.) The tires enlarge and the car lifts off the ground more as well as the coating of paint changing to a camouflage pattern. "Want to know the best thing about cars not being invented yet ladies? No speed limits!" He chuckles as he slams down on the gas pedal causing the tires to skid a bit leaving tire prints before lurching forwards. The car rapidly gains speed under the driving expertise of Kevin. While Kevin may not be worried in the slightest, the others might just have a panic attack.
"Don't you think you're going a little fast!?" Shrieks Ty Lee nervously. While Azula stares wide-eyed at the road ahead.
"Nonsense! The last time I checked the speed limit was, no speed limit." Kevin snickers as he swerves and drifts on and off the streets of Caldera to avoid pedestrians. Ty Lee closes her eyes, even Mai looks frightened; Kevin and Azula are just having fun. Soon they arrive back at the royal palaces outdoor training grounds and he hits the button that turns his car back into an on-road vehicle. "Having fun yet girls?" He grins maniacally. Ty Lee is shaking, Mai has yet to revert to her bored expression, but Azula is nodding enthusiastically.
"It was entertaining, to say the least," Azula says trying to cover up how much excitement she just showed. "We will have to do that again."
Ty Lee shakes her head as if to say no and Mai says, "just don't go so fast next time."
"Eh, it's whatever I've done faster." He says before adding "this one time at night I cloaked my ride just as I sped past a speed trap making the officer think he just clocked a UFO." He quips before bursting out into a fit of laughter, wiping away tears he explains. "UFO is the term for unidentified flying objects. Officers are law enforcement. And speed traps are where officers sit with a radar gun that calculates how fast vehicles are moving." The others just stare, not laughing at all.
"It wasn't that funny," Mai tells him blandly.
"Yeah, jokes aren't funny when you have to explain them," Kevin replies annoyed. "Whatever."
After Ty Lee calms herself Mai suggests that they go eat lunch. The others nod in agreement. They walk to the palace dining room and grab some lunch. The group orders the same main course that is komodo chicken. Mai and Ty both ordered a salad for their side dish while Azula chose cherries. Kevin decides to choose fire flakes because the group suggests it. As he eats he notices the others stop eating and begin to glance at him.
"What, do I have something stuck to my face?" He inquires before eating a fireflake, moments later his tongue feels like it's on fire. "HOT" he yells as he goes to find something to drink. The ladies erupt into laughter.
"I knew he would react like that" Ty giggles as she wipes tears from the corners of her eyes.
Levin re-enters at that moment, "ha-ha very funny." He says sarcastically. "Watch out, I'll have plenty of time to plan my revenge girls."
Mai's face already returned to its natural bland look responds "that was just payback for scaring us by driving so fast." Ty Lee nods in agreement with a huff crossing her arms.
He raises a brow, "I scared you and Azula too?" Mai realizes her mistake and was about to defend herself but Azula was faster.
"Of course nothing scares me. However, I'm sure Mai was scared." Azula says taking a jab at the assassin earning a glare.
"We'll see how true that is, princess." Before she could retort their banter was rudely interrupted by some nobleman's arrogant son walking over and putting his palms face down on the table.
"Hey, princess how about you ditch these losers and let me show you a good time." He says while looking at her like she is a prize to be won.
"How about you leave before I kill you and reduce your corpse to ash?" She glares.
Ignoring the threat, "Oh come on, don't be like that. I can show you a fun time."
"I doubt that. I do not care for your father's accomplishments. You have done nothing for yourself most definitely."
Still not taking a hint goes to touch her but is intercepted by Kevin. "What do you think you're doing peasant?!" He sneers with as much disgust he can muster before going around him only to be grabbed by the neck and thrown to the floor. He sits there stunned by this commoner's boldness before rising angrily. "Just what do you think you are doing!" He repeats louder. If this peasant knew who my father is he would be kneeling! Why does the princess lower herself to hanging around with this filth?
"What do I think I am doing? What are you doing!" He says poking the brat in the chest. "Keep it up and you will become best friends with the floor."
"I was conversing with the princess." He spat, "agni you are dim. Now step aside I was just getting to know her better."
At least nobody can say I didn't warn him. Kevin abruptly decks him in the face, knocking him to the floor a second time. "Don't you dare touch her!" Kevin roars. The nobleman's son rises to his feet and takes a firebending stance. The spoiled rich boy then throws a medium-sized ball of orange flames. Kevin doesn't attempt to dodge because if he did one of his friends could get burned. The flames hit Kevin and burn a hole through his clothes leaving an angry red mark on his abdomen; he doesn't give the teenager the satisfaction of hearing him cry out. Ignoring the pain he absorbs the metal lining on the table and turns around with a grin. The grin grows as he advances, fireballs fizzling out harmlessly against his steel armor. The spawn of a noble is growing fatigued, not used to fighting like this. The attacks become less powerful and more sloppy as he gets closer. Finally, in range, he punches the boy in the throat effectively leaving him defenseless. With him gasping for air he cannot bend fire as fire relies on the breath. Kevin jabs him in the stomach making him double over before slamming his fist down on the back of the guys exposed head. Finally, he kicks the now unconscious nobleman in the stomach. "I wasn't even trying." He chuckles as he un-absorbs the metal. "Are you ladies alright?"
Azula nods "of course we are all right but you should get that burn looked at." She then proceeds to call the guards and order them to throw the unconscious teen in the dungeons for harassing royalty. "Come on let's go to my room, I have plenty of burn creams there that should soothe and disinfect the wound." Arriving at her room she hands him a bottle and he proceeds to lather it on the burn, sighing as he feels the pain abate a little.
"Thanks Zula, that really helps." Mai and Ty Lee upon hearing this do a double-take.
Mai leans over to Ty Lee and whispers, "did he just call her a pet name?"
Ty Lee nods then asks, "how is he still alive?! Azula never allows anyone but me to call her Zula!" Mai's only response is a confused shrug.
Azula just admits its no problem burns are very common in the fire nation. She then questions if he is up to spar. "Of course one burn is nothing." The group makes their way back to the outside sparring pit.
"Ok, the rules are no lightning or killing each other." Azula flatly states. "Other than that it's free for all."
"You're going down girls" Kevin boasts as he absorbs the stone walls. Mai readies her throwing knives and Azula takes a stance. "Three, two, one, fight!" Kevin announces as he runs at Azula.
While Mai launches knives at Ty Lee pinning her to the wall of the arena. "One down," Mai announces proudly. "That's payback for going for me first the last time we did something like this." She tells Ty Lee.
"No fair." Says Ty Lee before tapping the side of the arena three times, having no choice but to accept defeat.
As Kevin charges Azula she retaliates by sending a wall of blue flames at him making it impossible to avoid. The superheated attack causes some of his stone coating to grow brittle and chip off. "Dang that was hot!" Kevin shouts making Azula smile.
"Do you admit def-..." she is cut off by knives being flung at her forcing her to focus on the assassin. Blocking most of her projectiles with her cross guards she felt a few daggers slice across her skin.
Instead of charging her head on Kevin opts to throw rocks at her while she is focused on avoiding deadly projectiles from Mai. A rock the size of Kevin's fist hits her thigh causing Azula to stumble and mutter a curse under her breath. He uses this opportunity to turn the tables on Mai because she is solely focused on Azula. Darting forwards he catches her off guard only receiving a nick from a sai that made it past the stone layer. He grabs her arms and morphs some of his stone armor to create makeshift rocky handcuffs."Gotcha." That is all Kevin says to the struggling assassin. Unable to draw knives she is out and it's just Levin versus Azula. "You already princess? You look fatigued. Ready to give up?" He says with a cocky smile.
"Not a chance." She retorts. "You might want to admit defeat seeing how Mai is no longer here to protect you."
"Pssst as if. How did that rock feel your royal hotness?" He retorts causing her to break stance in embarrassment. Taking advantage of this he charges her again only to be met with twin jets of azure flames. The heat and force renders the rest of his armor useless and he has no choice but to dodge and back up. Once he is a safe distance he looks down grimacing as he studies her handiwork. "Gotta hand it to ya princess, you hit like a train." He says before crouching down and absorbing more stone to protect himself. "But too bad for you, I hit harder."
Pretending to examine her nails to spite him she says, "I doubt that, I've seen pillow fights cause more damage than you."
Kevin rips a chunk of the stone out of the ground and charges. She tries blasting him with everything that she has in hopes of swiftly ending the fight; however, Kevin is using the chunk of stone as a shield. She manages to break through the stone he was holding right as he gets in range for hand to hand combat. Kevin throws a punch that would have connected with her throat rendering her unable to bend. Unfortunately, his fist only meets air as Azula ducks and performs a sweeping kick that sends explosive amounts of blue flames directly at Kevin. He hisses in pain feeling his armor start to crumble. "Lighten up will ya?"
"Says the one trying to sock me in the neck?" She replies with a raised eyebrow.
"Yeah, I should have seen that coming." He says before tackling her to the ground. "Aha! I win princess." He says with a smug expression. His attitude changes once he feels a fiery hand on his exposed back. He quickly rolls off of her and instantly she is straddling him.
"I win." She says confidently while pinning him in place.
Grumbling "yeah you do. But hey this isn't the worst way to lose." He says with a devilish smile. "I like having a powerful princess pinning me." He booms out in laughter once she quickly gets to her feet. "Oh, you should have seen the look on your face!"
Azula just glares down at him in return, "very well. Good match everyone."
At the end of the fight, Ty Lee is left with a few scratches courtesy of Mai's sai. Mai has a few burn marks but nothing major. Azula has a few cuts from Mai and a bruise on her left leg due to Levins rock. Kevin receiving the most damage has second degree burns with blisters starting to show on his forearms and a painful looking burn in the shape of Azula's hand on his back. "Alright let's take a break while I still have skin that's not scalded." Levin declares.
"A pity, I was just getting started." Azula proudly smirks.
"Damn your hot. I mean … your flames! Yeah, your flames are hot." He fumbles. Ty Lee giggles and Mai quirks her lips upwards a little.
"Just kiss already for the love of Raava." Says Mai. Kevin and Azula try to hide their twin blushes. "Good match and all but it's getting late so I'm heading home," Mai tells them as she starts walking away. Ty Lee turns to address the two.
"Don't you two get into too much trouble," she says with a wink and turns around to follow Mai.
"They are right, it is getting late, let's get you fixed up and ready for dinner," Azula says. Back in her room, Azula hands him the burn lotion and some bandages for the burns on his forearms.
Kevin unable to put some burn lotion on his back, "hey can you rub this on my back? It's not easy to reach." Azula mutters curses and complains but does it anyway. Afterward, she goes to eat dinner with the Firelord while Kevin eats alone on the couch.
As she is going back to her room she orders a female servant with black hair and brown eyes to prepare a bath for her. She arrives at her room to find a bored bodyguard. After a few minutes of awkward silence, she tries to talk to him. "How was today?" She questions him trying to get a conversation going as the servant was busy preparing a bath.
"Not bad princess, not bad at all. I had fun sparring even if it hurts a lot, you know I wasn't kidding that you have very hot flames." He said gazing down at his forearms.
"Are you sure it's just my fire that you are talking about?" She purrs.
"Totally yeah, wait no, maybe?" He stutters, before telling her what he thinks. "Ok you do look good there is no denying it." As he says this the servant comes out and informs the princess that her bath is ready. The serving girl starts staring at Kevin's arms like they are slabs of meat.
Frowning Azula informs the palace worker that her assistance is no longer required. She closes the door behind her to the restroom. While the princess is cleaning up she thinks about what Kevin says. She knows that it does not take a genius to tell that he is attracted to her looks, but that is probably where the attraction ends; once he sees her for who she really is he will most likely run off like all of the other boys. One thing that princess Azula is certain of is that Kevin is a friend. Finishing her bath she gets ready for bed donning a sleeping robe and drying her hair she steps out. Of course, she is greeted by the sight of her 'bodyguard' fast asleep on the couch snoring. She mischievously drops a very heavy book about fire nation battleships.
Kevin startles "huh, what did I miss?"
"Oops." She says in a singsong voice. "It just slipped out of my hands."
"Very funny, isn't there anything else you can-..." Kevin starts to say before he is abruptly cut off by a servant barging in.
"S-s-sorry princess but the Firelord requests an audience with you immediately oh and your bodyguard." He says nervously.
"Understood." She replies. "Come on, best not leave father waiting." She says in stride and he simply nods and follows. Once they get to the throne room Azula kneels as is expected but Kevin stands tall.
The Firelord glares disapprovingly at his daughter's bodyguard. "I see you still have yet to learn respect boy."
Ignoring the looks he is given by Ozai he asks "you called why?"
"Yes, I have a mission for you daughter. I need you to snuff out a rebellion led by earth benders in one of the colonies. I have marked the spot on the map. I expe-" Ozai is abruptly cut off by a British accent. "Who dares enter my throne room unannounced?! I will have your head!"
"Professor paradox!?" Kevin asks incredulously as Ozai prepares to shoot a bolt of lightning.
"Nobody enters my throne room unannounced!" He exclaims as he fires. To everyone's amazement minus Kevin, it goes right through him without burning or electrocuting him. "What is this sorcery?"
"Ah, not magic, time or should I say lack of it. I simply paused time allowing me to move faster than the human eye could see thus creating the illusion of it going straight through me." He says and looks at Kevin. "Ah yes, Kevin there is not much I can do here without breaking several rules of space time." Kevin just stares blankly.
"What do you mean?"
"If you think of time as a river, …" he starts cryptically before hearing Kevin groan.
"Just tell me what you came here for, I don't care for time travel headaches," Kevin says impatiently as he rubs his temples.
"Very well I was looking for what timeline or dimension you were in. But I came here to provide a warning, dark times approach: be very careful about what you do and look after those you care for." He says even more cryptically.
"As always you never make any sense."
"Ah yes I guess that is fair. Ah hello Azula, have we met?" Says paradox. "I suppose the better question is have we met yet."
"How do you know my name? Oh wait let me guess you're a time walker."
"Very good!" He congratulates her. "Anyways I will be back to check in on you." He says before vanishing.
"You have some weird friends," Azula says to which Kevin only nods.
Ozai, frustrated with the interruption, barks out. "Where was I? Yes, I expect you to succeed in Yu Dao," Ozai says sternly. "Prepare to depart tomorrow I already have a ship prepared."
Back in Azula's bedroom, both teenagers get settled. Kevin on the couch and Azula on the bed. Before they fall asleep Azula says "you will have to tell me more about this paradox person tomorrow."
He nods his head before saying, "night princess."
"Yes, goodnight" and they both fall asleep.
During the early hours of dawn around six a.m, Kevin awakes to whispers behind the door. Quietly he gets up and absorbs the stone floor morphing his left hand into a spiked ball. As quietly as he can, sneaks over to the door to place an ear against the wood so he can eavesdrop on whoever is outside. His suspicions are confirmed with what he hears.
"This is it the princesses' chambers remember to be fast and quiet once the target is eliminated we use the escape plan we prepared alright? Ok on the count of..-".
Before they can finish Kevin kicks down the door. "Heads up, look alive!" He yells as he bashes one of the assassins heads in. The other assassin, having been hit by the door Levin kicked down is already out cold with a large purple bruise forming on the side of his head. The fight did not even last a minute resulting in one dead assassin and an unconscious assassin. Azula woke the instant she heard her door being kicked down. During all of this Azula just watched and enjoyed the show. "Best bodyguard ever right princess," he says with a smirk.
She rolls her eyes "you were satisfactory. Oh look now a guard arrives. You there take the unconscious one to the dungeon and get someone to clean up the mess."
"As you wish, your highness." He picks up the sleeping assassin and throws him over his shoulder. He then looks at Kevin.
"Oh no, buddy don't you even go there, get someone else to clean it." He says as he picks up the broken door and tries to put it back in place to no avail. "Ugh, whatever, I gotta catch up on sleep." He growls wearily before throwing it down to the floor in frustration. He walks back in and hears the last thing he wants to.
"Oh well, it's simply too late to fall back asleep. Go take a shower you're a mess." She commands they fall into their morning routine.
As they are walking down the hall towards the exit of the palace a servant stops them. "The Firelord has summoned you." He explains before running off to his next duty. Kevin and Azula turn around and head towards the throne room.
Arriving at the throne room the Firelord states briskly, "change of plans: the siege at the north pole has failed, your uncle is a traitor and your brother is a failure. Hunt them down and don't come back until you succeed. You will leave today." He instructs them. "Oh and yes I am glad to see that this peasant was useful in the attempt on your life last night. Unfortunately, before we could interrogate the survivor he consumed a poison capsule."
"That means he had inside help, probably paid off one of the servants." He gives out a laugh before pinching the bridge of his nose. "Amateurs everywhere."
To say the Firelord was surprised would be an understatement. "And here I thought you were all brawn and no brain." Ozai remarks before dismissing them. Yes, he will be a better weapon than I previously imagined. If not maybe I can use his powers to mine coal at fast rates and power my fleet.
"It will be done as you wish father," Azula says respectfully while Kevin doesn't even respond. Once they exit the throne room she chides him on being disrespectful. "I mean would it kill to show my father proper respect?"
"No, but still I'm not going to bow to him just because he wears the fancy hat," Kevin says flippantly. "I mean, I respect people like you."
"You respect the crown princess but not the Firelord?" She asks completely perplexed by his lack of logic.
"I don't respect either." He says causing Azula to stop mid stride. "I respect Azula who just so happens to be the crown princess of the fire nation." He explains causing her to smile warmly.
"But why don't you respect the Firelord? He is after all the most powerful firebender alive." She asks inquisitively.
"Because he sits on a throne all day. I doubt he is at the frontlines, otherwise, he would not be sending his 15-year-old daughter to do his dirty work. I respect the person, not the titles, otherwise, I might have been intimidated by that nobleman's weak son."
Azula content with the reasoning behind his statements still implores, "it's not smart to cross the Firelord. He commands many legions."
"Yeah, yeah whatever, I'm not scared of him." Says Kevin shaking his head. Once they get outside he pulls out his keys and hits the autopilot button for his car. "Hop in."
"Why? We are taking a ship to the earth kingdom."
"There is no way that I'm leaving my ride here. I'll just park it on deck." They both agree and pile in. "Looks like it's just you and me." He says with a smirk. "No Mai and Ty Lee to interrupt us."
She rolls her eyes, "just drive us to the coast loverboy."
"Whatever you say hone- ouch hey watch it I'm driving over here." Wincing as she elbows him again but harder this time. "Ouch! Hey ok, I got it no playing around." Once they arrive and get Kevins 'ride' on board they pass time by telling stories in Azulas on board chambers. They both lay on the bed scooting apart when they feel one another accidentally brush up against each other.
"So, who is this professor paradox?" Azula inquires. "How did you meet him?"
"Long story behind that tale," Kevin explains before acquiring a thoughtful look.
"Well, not too long ago Gwen, Ben, and I were investigating strange activity in an abandoned military base called Los Soledad," Kevin explains nostalgically. "When we got there we noticed all kinds of super strange things like fossilized lizards and birds. There was this payphone booth-"
Azula "pay phone?"
"Uh a phone is kinda like a messenger hawk but you can message and talk to people instantly." She motions for him to continue. "Well anyway, the floor on the bottom of the booth had footprints like whatever stood on it aged the steel to dust."
"Must be one old military base." Azula surmises.
"No, it's not, it had only been abandoned for 50 years." He corrected her. "But there were also these trails where the ground had been aged. Then the creature responsible for it appeared and Ben turned into Chromastone to fight it."
"Chromastone?"
"One of the many aliens he can turn into," Kevin explains. "But as soon as the thing appeared it vanished," Kevin says snapping once for emphasis. "We decided to do some research and we found out about why the base was built. It was the location of Paradox's failed experiment. Then the time traveler himself showed up and I wrecked half the base trying to catch him only to have him vanish and reappear; he did that so he could get the creature's attention. Well, once I tried fighting it something unique happened."
"What do you mean?"
"I absorbed the stone like you have seen me do and went to punch it; the instant my fist made contact with it my stone coating disappeared and I kinda … well I …"
"Spit it out brick head." She snaps.
"I got aged about 70 years. And hey! I'm no brick head!" Kevin says sheepishly while rubbing his neck at the absurdity of what he just said.
"What!" She exclaims as she looks him over. "But you look like you're 17 or 18." She says before frowning and squinting at him. "You had better not be lying to me. I can usually tell when most people are lying but you. No, you are too hard to read unless you're being totally honest right now." I don't think I have ever not been able to read a person.
"Let me finish, I'm getting there." He replies. "Well, basically my friends freaked out and helped me get back to the car. Once we got there Ben had to drive, because I was sort of trying to unlock a cactus." Azula lets out a giggle when she hears this. "Did you just giggle?" He asks in disbelief before his face lightens up.
"What?! N-no I do not giggle! You must still have hearing problems from being so old." She teases indignantly while crossing her arms over her chest.
Kevin gets an evil idea, "don't giggle huh?"
"Of course not I don't gi-" She is cut off with a squeal as he tickles her. "S-s-STOP it, you buffoon!" She roars as she zaps him with a tiny bolt of lightning.
"Sheesh, I'm done now chill." He begs. "Anyway, so long story short the thing aged my car aging it beyond repair before Ben totals it." He says with a haunted look. "Thankfully the professor was able to reverse it. In the end, we went back to the day of the accident and found out it was the assistant that made the mistake. Ben went alien and prevented him from becoming a monster." Kevin notices her face darken. "Was it something I said?"
She nods slowly and reluctantly. "My mother thought I was a monster." She said with misty eyes. "She was right of course but it still hurt."
Kevin erupted, "what! No, you are not a monster!" He yells before wrapping her in a protective embrace. "Look I honestly have seen nothing about you that implies you are a monster. I would know I used to be a monster." He says softly as she buries her head into his chest causing him to run his fingers through her silky hair. "Look I think your mom misidentified the monster in the family."
"What?" She mumbles before looking up at him. Kevin can see the confusion engraved into her features.
"Any parent that calls their child a monster, IS a monster." He declares as he grits his teeth. "I'm here for you Azula whenever or wherever you need to talk, I'll be waiting."
"Hmm, I may need to raise your paycheck." She mumbles her voice regaining some of its confidence. "Mother left Zuko and I behind a while back. She had enough time to say goodbye to Zuko but not me." She says quietly. "Not the monster."
"Look at me, princess." Once she looks at him he says "repeat after me, I am not a monster." He commands and once she does he hugs her tightly, "that's it just take it easy I'm not going anywhere princess."
She mumbles into his chest, "promise?"
His heart bleeds hearing the normally unflappable princess so timid and vulnerable. "Of course, I'm staying even if you command me to leave." He whispers while rubbing her back delicately. Soon they both fall into a comfortable deep sleep.
They both sleep soundly throughout the night. Both comforted by each other's slow rhythmic heartbeats. Kevin was the first to wake up and he feels something warm on his chest. Opening his eyes and looking down he realizes it's Azula. She looks so beautiful right then with her face relaxed he thought. Brushing away wild strands of raven hair he just lays there staring at the pale skinned beauty until she wakes up. "Sleep well princess?" Eyes open to reveal gold that could rival the vault at Fort Knox. Wow, I could really get lost in those eyes.
Noticing what she is laying on she quickly rolls off with a light blush. "I guess so." She admits, in fact, she realizes that she has never had a better night's sleep. "Thank you for last night, Kevin."
"Don't mention it," Kevin says as he gets off the bed to get ready for the day. The princess follows suit.
Up on deck after breakfast Kevin watches Azula practice her lightning bending under the tutelage of two old crones. She seems pretty bent on being perfect, he notices. Regardless he finds himself gazing in awe at the display of lightning. Suddenly he has an idea, this will either result in me turning extra crispy or in a stunned princess, please be the ladder, Kevin thinks. "Hey princess!" He hollers to get her attention. "Hit me with your best shot!"
Shaking her head, "no are you crazy, I could easily kill you." Just what does he think he is trying to do! Does he have a death wish?
"Sounds like you're too scared to hit me. I mean who wouldn't be right?" He says with a cocky grin. "You would probably miss."
WHAT! He did not just accuse me of being scared. She thinks angrily. "Oh, you are asking for it rocky!"
"I'm asking for it? No, I'm begging for it! Who's gonna give it to me?" Kevin mocks the already enraged princess upon seeing the smoke emitted from her nostrils and gold eyes flaring he thinks she reminds me of either a dragon or a vicious tigress. Kevin notices her expression change to rage. "Yeah come on burn one in here!" He yells pointing right where his heart is. "If you're not scared at least." The crew starts trying to hide and watch this suicidal man insulting their princess.
"Hey Lee, got any idea why this guy is asking to be killed?" Asks the captain who is currently cowering in fear behind a crate.
Lee responds while quaking "no clue but I am really starting to wish I took that vacation time right about now!"
Another royal guardsmen chimes in, "I wouldn't even be here if I didn't switch with Ming!"
"Wow, that's just bad luck right there man." Replies Lee pitying his peer. "Here's the plan, make yourselves practically invisible, we don't want to draw her attention over here." Lee orders causing the others to nod and hunker down.
A royal guard then jumps in "h-hey at least you have two crates to hide behind! L-look at this I barely have ONE!" He says breaking out into a sweat eyes darting from princess to his crew. We don't get paid enough for this job, why does it feel like being at the frontlines outside of Ba Sing Se. Wait no id RATHER be at the front. He thinks remembering what happened to the last guy who disrespected the princess.
She starts moving her arms, sparks generating, and crackling at her fingertips. "I. Fear. NOTHING!" She yells, shooting a giant bolt of lightning right at his chest. It hits him dead center causing him to slide back about two feet until he hits the railing on the edge of the deck he manages to stay on his feet. Instead, he appears to absorb it into his body. Azula watches with a mixture of astonishment, fear, and anger. "YOU WANT MORE?!" She starts flinging more lightning only for him to continue absorbing it.
Kevin sweating profusely starts to panic, his heart feels like it's about to be ripped from his chest and his hairs are all standing up. "STOP!" He yells overflowing with power. "PLEASE PRINCESS CALM DOWN! I'M SORRY!" He starts dodging the bolts until she finally wears herself out.
"DAMN RIGHT PEASANT! I WILL NOT TOLERATE DISRESPECT ON MY SHIP!" She screams at him face red, eyes still alight with unholy fire.
"It worked!" He yells while laughing. He starts shooting lightning. "Stoked, lightning powers."
"You can shoot lightning now?!" She says excitedly. Why do I find that so attractive? He can take and dish out whatever I throw at him, she thinks while licking her lips. However it comes to her attention that he is not even using the technique to generate lightning, he is just making it. How fascinating.
"Yep I figured it was energy and if I absorbed it I'd be able to generate lightning." He says with a smile. "It's nowhere near as powerful as yours though."
"Why is it not as powerful?" She asks frowning only slightly. Still amazing.
"Because when an osmosian absorbs power from the source they can only use it at one tenth of its strength."His mind goes blank and he has to shake his head several times. Oh no, I'm such an idiot! Kevin abruptly bolts down below deck to have peace and quiet to help his turbulent mind. She follows after him confused by his sudden mood change.
"Why did you run off?" She asks as she finds him sitting with his back against the wall shaking his head. "Kevin?" She asks as she touches his shoulder. "I'm still impressed even if it is not as powerful, okay? I don't know anyone else that can steal that kind of power."
"I'm so dumb Azula." He says quietly. "Since I absorbed that energy all I want to do is absorb more." Control yourself, Kevin, just focus.
"What's wrong with that?" She says as she kneels down and runs circles on his shoulder with her hand.
"Because I could have lost my mind." He says on the verge of tears. "I might still, I don't want to end up like I did when I was eleven. A FREAK!" He yells as he punches the floor denting it slightly, when his right hand comes up it is bruised and bloody. His hands have a slight tremor and his face looks ashen. "I don't want to lose control again, I CAN'T!" He tells her desperately before continuing "they might send me back to the null void or just put me down like a mad dog this time."
She gasps and then pulls him into a hug. "I'm here for you if you need to talk alright?" She makes sure to let him know that she will be there for him. "I won't let anyone send you back, and I will most certainly not let anyone kill you okay." She says firmly and he just dips his head slightly in acknowledgment.
"Thanks Zula. I really needed to hear that, it terrifies me to lose control as I did so long ago. And this time Quarrel won't be there to help me snap out of it." He mutters barely audible.
I have got to learn about this Quarrel person she tells herself. "No, you won't." She says abrasively causing his head to snap up, grief written over his features. In a softer tone, she gently tells him "you will have me this time if that should happen again." Hearing this he hugs her tighter, "Kevin AIR!"
He chuckles softly loosening his grip, "sorry."
She shakes her head and scolds him "don't be." She then lets go and leaves to go instruct her crew. What is he doing to me? Your growing soft Azula reprimands herself.
Kevin takes some time to gather his thoughts and control his emotions before he attempts to follow. It's alright, no harm done, just steer clear of absorbing power again.
"Do not hesitate … for if you do I will not think twice about obliterating you. Understand? I repeat do not hesitate to harm Zuko Or Uncle." She Orders before letting them in on the details of their mission. "The plan is we will make them think that father has revoked Zuko's banishment. We will trick them to get on board." She says with a serious look on her face.
"YES PRINCESS." They shout in union before setting off to do different tasks.
The captain hurries up to the princess to inform her about the tides and how they won't allow the ship to dock. Regretting the words the instant they leave his mouth.
"Captain, will the tides think twice before bashing you against the rocky shore?" She inquires in the most casual way, almost as if she is asking the time of day or what's the weather like.
"No your highness." He gulps. Please don't kill me, please, please, please. The captain prays, I just got this promotion. The last captain … He shivers just thinking about the last captain. May he rest in peace.
"Oh really? What a shame. If I were you, captain, I'd pay less attention to the tides and more about me for I am still debating on whether you are worth the rations you consume. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes, your majesty." He says quaking with fear. He is quick to shout out the command to dock the ship.
"Nice speech, I found it very inspirational, a true motivator to do their jobs." He jokes.
She smiles at this, "yes I find death threats to always get the job done." They dock and set out to find her relatives.
Walking up to the house Azula and Kevin enter to find Iroh and Zuko residing there; arguing over trivial matters.
Azula greets the wanted duo "hello brother, hello uncle."
Zuko whips around so fast that he hurts his neck a bit causing Kevin to chuckle. "Azula! What are you doing here?!" Says Zuko as loud as ever before glaring at Kevin.
"In my country, it is customary to greet people before asking questions. Of course, I don't expect you to remember how to properly act." She chides Zuko as if he were seven.
"To what do we owe this honor, Azula?" Iroh asks.
"You to uncle? I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Oh well." She says before informing them about the 'exile being lifted'. She weaves some lies in with some truths. "Father is lifting your exile, you are free to come home. Assassins are becoming more frequent, family is the only thing father can trust right now. In fact, before I left, my bodyguard here had killed two intruders." She informs them.
"I can come back? Father regrets? UNCLE! We can go home uncle!" Zuko yells a pitch higher than normal due to excitement. Iroh narrows his eyes at Azula but Zuko doesn't notice. What Zuko does notice is the tall black haired stranger, "who is that Azula?"
He responds for her, "none of your business."
"Young man you are in our house, mind your manners." Iroh berates him with a scowl. "So who are you?"
"Man you are full of it," Kevin says with disbelief. "Let me get this straight. You tell me to mind my manners when you cannot even greet someone properly." He says dubiously before finally saying "maybe you should ask a better question." Iroh raises an eyebrow questioningly. "Like whether I care. In Case you're wondering, I don't." Iroh is about to retort but Azula cuts off the feud before they come to trading blows.
"We will give you some time to think, our ship departs tomorrow for home. Don't expect us to wait, we will leave with or without you." Azula states and walks out the door. "Come along Kevin we have supplies to order."
Kevin glowers at Iroh with his lip turned upwards in disgust. "Bye, grandpa." He says before he slams the door behind him shut with enough force that it breaks the doorknob off. "Knobs broken,'' he yells before laughing and tossing the knob.
Once they are back at the ship Kevin asks "do you think they will come? Short and stubby seemed pretty wary."
"I believe so, Zuko probably misses the fire nation. After all, it's been years since he has been home."
"Sounds pretty rough," Kevin says dryly. "My parents kicked me out on the streets when I was ten. I guess I can relate to being homeless." He mutters the last part quietly causing Azula not to comment on this.
"Well, he has the royal tea and proverb loving cookiness with him." She quips.
"True but I think I would lose it being in that old man's presence. He grinds on my nerves and I don't know why." He states thoughtfully.
Azula grins hearing this, "you and I think alike then."
"What would you like to do?" Kevin asks before suggesting. "We could spar, but I'd rather not let them see my powers yet."
"Might as well go eat." She says shrugging as there is really not much that they can do.
Meanwhile with Zuko and Iroh.
"UNCLE! What do you mean we should not go?!" Yells Zuko. "My honor is restored and my banishment lifted, let's go home."
"Zuko, I thought you were the one that coined the term 'Azula always lies' have you forgotten about that?" Pleads Iroh. "My brother is not one to as they say 'forgive and forget.'"
Zuko sneers, "you're just jealous like you always have been of my father, your brother. I'm going, the only question is whether you will be joining me." He states as he leaves the house. Iroh sighs and tells him to wait up.
"Zuko I don't like that man she was with, he looks very dangerous," Iroh says as he walks alongside Zuko.
"What do you mean uncle?" Zuko says looking down at Iroh.
"I don't fully know how I know but it's the way he holds himself," Iroh says with a wrinkled forehead. "He does not look like he belongs to any of the four nations Zuko. I don't want to find out what surprises that man has in store. But of course, I have been wrong before, hopefully, I am about this too."
"Well let's stop talking about it, for now, we are here," Zuko whispers.
The firebending duo arrives at the ship and is greeted by Azula and two rows of imperial firebenders. Iroh takes note of the stranger still standing close to Azula. He asks himself could Azula actually like someone? No, she is too much like her father, too cold. He then scowls at the stranger.
"Hello Zuzu" she greets. "Have you decided whether or not you are ready to come home?"
"DON'T CALL ME THAT!" He shouts and follows up with "yes Uncle and I have been away for far too long."
"Glad to hear it, Captain set sail for 'home'." She says with a forced smile.
"Very well your excellency. Should we escort the prisoners to their -..." He trails off in horror realizing what he has just revealed. "Forgive me, your majesty." He begs.
"Useless. Oh well." She states frustratedly. Kevin thinks want a dope.
"YOU LIED TO ME" Zuko shouts. Meanwhile, Iroh releases fast but powerful jabs of fire to swiftly subdue the imperial firebenders without killing them. However, he looks at the stranger that has him so upset and is ready to end him if need be.
Azula smirks "as if I have never done that before Dum-Dum." She walks on deck trying to bait Zuko to pursue her, and it works. Zuko not only follows her but goes on the attack with a sloppy wave of fire. From behind he hears an angry voice before the back of his knees are kicked causing him to fall forward. As he gets back up to see who attacked him he notices the rude stranger from earlier.
"Oh, it's my crazy sister's dog." Sneers Zuko. "Why would you follow her around anyway, peasant she is evil."
Kevin's face hardens when he hears this. "Don't talk to her or about her like that!" He shouts before he kneels down to absorb the metal. His hands form steel mallets and he starts clanging them against each other threateningly.
Zuko stares in shock and fear. "Azula why would you side with an earthbending peasant?!"
She rolls her eyes before looking at him condescendingly. "Oh please dum-dum, I always have wondered if that burn affected your vision. No need to fetch some glasses. He just absorbed metal last time I checked earthbenders cannot bend metal."
"So he is some kind of monster like you." He chuckles causing Azula to glare with murderous intent. "I mean that's what you have always been. That's why nobody likes you."
"Shut your mouth kid before I shut it for you," Kevin shouts, already advancing towards Zuko.
Iroh watches in shock but knows what he must do. This man is too powerful to leave with my niece. I must end this before it gets out of hand. He then sees Azula powering up her lightning and almost grins time to kill two birds with one stone. Or save one bird and kill the other. He thinks.
Azula enraged says "enough talking. Why would father want a failure like you back anyway? All you ever do is embarrass the royal family!" Zuko blindly rushes Azula with fire blades; she quickly blocks all of his sloppy attacks landing swift but powerful counterattacks of her own without the use of her bending. Panting Zuko stops his furious strikes to catch a breath. With his attention solely focused on Azula, Kevin sneaks up and sweeps his leg across the ground throwing Zuko to the floor again. Kevin then proceeds to back up once he notices what Azula was doing, Zuko can only watch in horror as he sees her generate lightning to shoot at him. Iroh comes in right as she is ready to release the lightning grabbing her hand he redirects it towards Kevin. For Azula, it seemed like time slowed down. She even wondered, is this paradoxes doing? But alas no such luck of the time walker intervening.
One moment Kevin is standing tall as he watches Azula draw lightning from the air. He notices the fat guy running towards Azula at the last second. Then he is being flung back with a searing pain in his chest area. Levin feels abnormally tired as he slumps against the wall. Finally, he hears a lot of yelling then everything goes dark.
Azula panics as she sees Kevin fall and actually begins to freak out when she notices him unabsorbing the metal armor. It then hits her that he couldn't absorb the electricity because the metal armor he was wearing conducted it. Ignoring Iroh and Zuko she bolts towards her friend. Please be ok, please be ok. "Kevin. Kevin, I command you to wake up! Please wake up." She then checks for a pulse and is relieved to find a faint beat. Unbeknownst to her, Iroh and Zuko watched rooted to the deck of the ship with disbelief. Turning around she sees them and fumes. "This is your fault!" She then cradles Kevin's head in her lap putting her own body in between them. They will have to strike me first to get to him. But let's not give them the chance.
"Zuko I think this is our cue to exit," Iroh states, trying to snap Zuko out of it. Time and time again Iroh snaps his fingers in front of Zuko's face to no avail. Where Iroh fails, Azula succeeds by setting Zuko's clothes alight. He nods his head and they dip, running as fast as possible. After running for a while Iroh pants "we … should… be able… to rest… here." They both stop and catch their breath before Zuko pulls out the knife that Iroh gifted him and cuts his hair. Handing the blade to his uncle Iroh does the same.
