So this is a story I've been sitting on for a while now. Originally it was a whole adventure that was planned on an old FT forum but never happened for various reasons
I'm really only writing this for me as I doubt the other people who were supposed to participate care or even remember this but hey I figured why not
I'll try to get everything explained in the story itself so to not make the opening of each chapter a massive exposition dump but here's a cliff notes version of the main things real quick
This story is about a group of OC's who are close friends and are members of Fairy Tail.
The story will mostly take place outside of Fiore in a fictional land I've made up called Xian that is heavily based off of imperial china but with a few other eastern cultures mixed in as well, if your curious as to "where" it is exactly it's the massive peninsula of land just the the East of Fiore, hence the name of the story
There's a bunch of things that conflict with FT canon but a few right off the bat are that Mei, my main OC is a flame god slayer, and that Mason, a friend's OC is an ice god slayer. And there's no real answer for when this fits into the FT timeline as the timeline back on the forum was a little weird. So all I'll say is it's after the 7 year timeskip of the anime but that's it really. Dragons exist in Xian, the long bodied wingless dragons of eastern culture. As well as smaller ones that serve as guardian spirits and such for many families. As well as other animal spirits typically found in eastern cultures like Kitsune and such
So if you don't like OC stories that don't fit into canon times just right then you probably won't enjoy this story
And lastly the only OC of the group that is mine is Mei, the rest belong to old friends of mine but I haven't had much contact with them in a while so the others might not get as detailed descriptions and things as I'm only going off of what is almost certainly outdated info.
But as I've stated already I'm really only writing this story for my own interest because I've wanted to explore this story for a while so it is what it is. All that being said if you're still interested in it then I'll not waste any more time, on to the show

Mei Wildstorm, current member of the Fairy Tail magic guild and, unbeknownst to her teammates, the crown princess and some heir to the Empire of Xian, was freaking out to say the least
She was currently pacing back and forth in the bedroom of her and her boyfriend/team member Kyousuke's apartment. She stopped and re read the letter in her hands for the umpteenth time. It was a letter written in her native tongue of Xianese but the handwriting was very clearly her mother's
"Dearest Mei
I know it's been a while since we've spoken and I know you probably wish to stay in Fiore but I'm afraid there's been an incident back home. The Royal strategist was slain recently and it appears as though who ever assassinated him took much of his information regarding our hidden agents. There were also a number of reports stolen regarding you despite our best to hide your location. But besides that there was an attempted assassination of your father, he's alive but badly wounded so I've had to take over for him. Normally I'd let you stay there as I know you're quite capable of defending yourself but they came so close to killing your father even though he was surrounded by the black dragon guard and me and your grandmother. I'm just so worried that they'll come for you too. So please, come home with all possible speed, it's not safe there and we need you at home
Love mom"
It was just too much to process for Mei, her dad was nearly assassinated and now she needs to come home. Home, she hadn't been back home in years, but now she'd have to leave her friends and… Kyousuke, no they'd want to come with her, they'd insist on it
And that meant they'd learn her true identity
She'd never told them that she was really the crown princess of a foreign nation. At first it was simply a precaution, safer for her that way. But it'd been almost 5 years and still they simply thought she was an ex black dragon who'd decided to travel to Fiore. It wasn't a lie but it wasn't the whole truth either and as she became closer to the team, even going so far as to date a fellow teammate and proceed to fall head over heels in love, the burden of that secret grew heavy and now she was afraid they'd feel betrayed if she told them
But there was no escaping it now, if she went, they'd go too, that was inevitable
"You're going to ruin the carpet if you keep pacing so frantically" came a voice from a few feet over
Mei turned and saw her family's guardian dragon, Comet, laying on the dresser. The small dragon was about 3 feet long with shimmering gold scales and was very nearly always asleep but he usually woke up when he needed to
"What am I going to do Comet?" Mei asked
"Well you should probably start by packing" the dragon said sagely
"That's not helpful"
"Mei you knew this day would come, and unless you plan to sneak away without warning you'll have to deal with it at some point" Comet reasoned "and don't do that, you'd break Kyousuke's heart and we both know he wouldn't handle that well, besides imagine how great it will be when he realises he publicly declared his intention to wed the crown princess of Xian one day" the small dragon chuckled
"You're awful" Mei said with a roll of her eyes "but you're right dammit, but I'm not telling them about that part until we're back in Xian, if they remain ignorant of my identity for now it's safer for them. Any potential assassins may ignore them if they're unaware of me"
"While I cannot deny that that's sound logic I will point out you're still simply trying to postpone the inevitable" Comet said
Mei simply sighed "perhaps, but I'm doing it anyway" she told him and stared at the letter again "ok, let's go tell the team about our trip, maybe they won't insist on coming"
"Well of course we're coming with you" Mason said to Mei and comet
The 3 of them, as well as the other 2 members of the team, Kagami and Kyousuke, had all met back at the Fairy tail guild hall and Mei had informed them she was needed back home
While their team, The Team with Many Names, had no official leader they all considered Mason the unofficial leader of the group as they always followed his say on most matters, that is whenever him and Mei weren't bugging the hell out of each other
"Mason really, this isn't your guy's problem, it's a concern for those of Xian. I'm a black dragon and am sworn to protect the crown, I've been summoned home, that's not a guild concern"
"But it is a friend concern" Kagami spoke up. Kagami was usually quiet but always spoke up on matters she deemed important "Mei even if this doesn't concern the guild it concerns us, we're your friends and we want to help you"
"I agree, and I'm going too" Kyousuke said next to Mei
"But Ishuu" Mei started
"I'm going" he said again "besides I can take this opportunity to meet your parents and ask for your father's blessing"
"Very well" Mei sighed, when he made a decision there was no changing his mind
"Yeah and i've always wanted to see your homeland, see if everyone is a kung fu master like you" Mason spoke up
"First off, I'm not a kung fu master, I'm a swordsman" Mei rolled her eyes
"What's the difference?" Mason asked, completely serious
"Well for starters" Kyousuke said "one fights with a sword and one doesn't" the lightning swordsman explained
Kyousuke was a student of the school of Raiden, a school that trained those how to harness the power of lightning and implement it into their bladework. It was originally how Mei had taken an interest in him as she was a member of the elite Black Dragons of Xian, a special warrior school that produced the greatest warriors in Xian.
All their weapons were carved from the fang of a dragon that each member must acquire themselves by earning the respect of one of the many dragons of Xian and having them gift a fang yo said warrior. Every member of the Royal family of Xian also became black dragons before being the ruler
"But i've seen you both fight without your swords" Mason argued
"Yes but I have only basic hand fighting knowledge, without my sword I have to rely purely on my magic" Kyousuke explained
"And I have more advanced hand to hand training but I'm nowhere near as good at it as I am with my sword" Mei agreed
"Is this really that important?" Kagami asked
"Of course!" Said all three other members at the same time
"Very well let me rephrase that. Is this conversation really relevant to the current issue?" Kagami asked
Mason sighed "I guess not, so Mei when do we leave?"
"Tomorrow morning" Mei said "they want me there as soon as possible"
"well then, tomorrow it is. Come Mei, lets go home" Kyousuke said and offered her his hand. Mei took it and stood up, the others stood as well
"Alright then we'll meet at the train station tomorrow morning" Mason stated and the group dispersed
Mei still was unable to shake the feeling of unease but knew that there was no going back now
