Just a quick Author's Note, this is the first story I've purposefully imagined it in the Nick CGI verse, as younger teenagers, with the major exception of Klunk being prominent in this story despite not being in this series, because Ice Cream Kitty just wasn't a good enough replacement and we all know that!
Hope you enjoy!
A crash from Don's lab was not unusual, but an uttered curse loud enough that he heard through the closed door drew Leo's attention that way, equal parts curious and concerned.
Master Splinter actually beat him there though, unsurprising, they all knew Donatello had some dangerous stuff in here. Their father was already tisking at his son, and Leo did a quick about to where he kept the med kit as he saw the blood dripping to the floor as he asked, "what did Mikey break now?" His eyes still scanning, despite the fact their baby brother seemed no where about.
Donnie looked more surprised than actually in pain though at the deep gash across his hand, his eyes were still wider than usual as he looked at the wreckage scattered across his lab floor.
"Sorry!" He finally gasped at the pair, as Sensi kept his hand elevated and Leo began cleaning the cut, still watching his brother with growing concern. " Nothing, this time, believe it or not. He, made a run to the comic book store before it closed, been in his room all night. I, don't know what happened! I was, examining it and, and it just, imploded."
"My son, what were you working on?" Master Splinter tightened the new bandage, and then bent to examine the debri. "I have always encouraged your mind, but you should have care and forewarn us if you bring something of danger into our home."
Donnie didn't immediately answer, causing both of them to turn full attention back to his suddenly red tinged face.
"Donatello," their father repeated in his best father/ teacher voice. Sometimes it was scary how he combined the two into the perfect lie detector.
He finally sighed and acquitted, but addressed Leo, it was easier to spare against his brother than his father. "Yesterday, when we raided that old warehouse of Shredder's, well, you know it was full of junk and-"
"We called the police when we cleared it though," Leo interrupted already in exasperation. "They seized everything in there," then he stopped himself and narrowed his eyes to almost slits. "You pulled a Mikey, didn't you."
Don looked guiltily at the floor now, but that still wasn't better, the floor was reminding him of his guilt as well still littered with the remains of the ancient urn with the Japanese symbol inscribed on the side. It had been sitting on a pile of ancient Japanese artifacts just ripe for a museum, and he couldn't exactly buy tickets to go see that, and it had been right there..."sorry guys," he finished lamely.
"At least your are not severely harmed my son," between Splinter's disappointment and Leo's exasperation, the floor was still better. His father squeezed his hand and puttered to the space reserved right behind Donatello's door for just the occasion, coming back to him with a broom and dustpan. "In the future though, you would do well to remember that the Shredder kept many a valuable, and dangerous objects in his many lifetimes. Shall this happen again my son-"
"I'll let you know if I come home with it, promise," Don said in relief as he began sweeping away the pieces of the old urn, his own disappointment welling more with every brush. He'd been careful handling it, but had barely gotten a seconds look at the symbol. Perhaps it was the heat of his skin, he contemplated, mind still lost in thought as he dumped the lot into his trash bin and headed to his computer to keep typing up some notes, regardless of the fact his newest project wasn't available to study. He'd stowed it into his bag using his bo' staff, pretending to inspect the pile for any stray Foot soldiers they'd followed there, but he could have caused some internal damage upon the trip home, and the heat of his skin conflicted with it...
He didn't seem to register his father and brother taking their leave. Master Splinter bid Leonardo good night, and he returned in kind before heading back to the couch and stretching out in front of the TV.
Raph returned from his outing with Casey just a hair's breath past sunrise, walking in brazenly, not fool enough to think he could slip past Master Splinter and Leo despite barely being out past curfew. To his surprise though, Fearless was snoring away on the couch, and no father stood waiting to reprimand him. He could see Donnie snoring away in his lab too, resting almost comfortably in the chair, head tilted towards the door, a bit of drool on his chin. Must have been a late night for everyone. Grinning in relief for actually managing to get away with something for once, he slipped as quietly as he was capable of to his room, but stopped in surprise to find Mikey's door wide open, Klunk perched atop Mikey's slowly rising and falling shell, but the idiot was on the floor. He'd passed out with his comics still strewn all around him, again.
Not looking forward to the whining he knew would come of this in the morning if his baby brother got a crick in his neck for that position, he prodded the cat awake first. Those amber eyes opened immediately, but he stayed stubbornly in place.
He had no ill will towards the cat, but he also listened more than Mikey ever did about cats supposedly suffocating people in their sleep, he didn't like the idea of his baby brother ignoring that, so despite the warning grumble in protest, Raph shunted him off. Grabbing a blanket from his bed, Raph threw it over Mikey and hauled him none to gently onto his bed. Idiot didn't even flinch, Raph snorted.
Snatching the cat up before he could dart back up with his brother, he tucked him under his arm and shushed him when he meowed and dropped him kindly over the threshold.
Closing the door quietly behind him for once, he was in a good mood, he finally made his way to his own hammock and was out as soon as soon as he was in, ignoring the cats glare all the while.
I bet you think you know what's going on, but wait for it...
And for the record, it is not a thing that cats suffocate people in their sleep, I should know, I sleep with two of them. They have been known to do so, accidentally, to infants, but the factoid there is, don't let your cats sleep with your infants unsupervised.
