He could hear everything, the city rang through his ears like a train in a subway station. Funny enough Clark had already heard that today too. Clark was a stocky and well built man, he had a strong square jaw and a small cleft chin. His eyes a magnificent blue that sparkled more than the oceans. He had short and side swept black hair that he always kept combed.

He had just arrived in the city today, he could hear Ma and Pa's words to him now. "Remember to be careful, the city is nothing like Smallville." He looked up at the Chrome skyscrapers suffocating the skyline. Breathing in the city air which was clumped with smog, smoke, and the smell of body odor. It was nothing like the small farm town he knew.

He pulled back the sleeve of his pressed grey suit to check his watch. It was old, he was always teased for it, why have a watch when everyone can just check their phones. He found something appealing to his old silver watch with the black strap though. Same with him wearing the pressed grey suit and pants with black loafers. He thought it made him look sophisticated, and secretly, attractive too.

Not that he truly cared much, but he wanted to look presentable, especially today. He made his way through the busy streets as quickly as he could. He would squeak out a "'scuse me, pardon me." Every now and then to the oncoming flood of people. They all kept their faces either buried in their phone or low to avoid eye contact with other people. Clark mused on the fact that all these people chose to live so close to each other and yet acted as if they hated it.

He pushed forward till he made it to a smaller building, still tall but not as tall as the other skyscrapers in the city. However the height was not it's most eye catching feature, Clark couldn't stop staring at the giant copper globe at the top of the building. The building greeted him to a small reception area. It had a couple waiting chairs, a desk with a window and an elevator door and a door leading to the stairs. Behind the desk was a warm looking receptionist, she was older and had the face of an inviting grandmother.

"Hi there, welcome to the planet mister-"

"Kent, Clark Kent. I'm here for my interview with Mr. White." Clark beamed at her as big as he could, nothing could improve your day like a smile, he thought. She flashed her shining whites back as she picked up her phone.

"Mr. White, your 4 o'clock is here." Her face seemed to curl into a slight frown as she huffed a little and hung up the phone.

"He'll see you now." She said before waving him through, her expression seemed different than before. Clark slowly entered the elevator and waited patiently for it to ding to his location. The doors opened to a busy newsroom with people shuffling to and from printers and their desks. There was one man loudly on his phone bragging about season tickets he had gotten.

Clark stepped out sheepishly and just stood like a big oaf in the middle of the room. A couple people rushed past him giving him dirty looks as they rushed past. He scoured the office for what he thought would be a manager's office. He found a little glass box in the corner, he could see inside, even though the blinds were closed. That was one of Clark's abilities, Clark had exceptional powers one of them being he could use x-ray vision to see through everything but lead.

The man was aggressive on the phone, Clark could also hear the words he was speaking, and the words coming through the phone as well.

"Just get the damn story and get back here Lois! I'm tired of playing your keeper!" He seemed to pause, Clark could hear the person on the other end sarcastically call him dad. Clark cleared his throat and made his way to the door. He held the handle firmly as he took a deep breath to compose his nerves. He chuckled to himself, he was a man of steel with nerves of tin foil.

"Hello Mr. White!" Clark said enthusiastically as he entered the office. The room was almost bare in terms of furniture, it had a small black couch, a large black desk and a chair for Mr. White to sit down in. The walls were all windows except the wall behind Mr. White's desk. On that wall were prizes for Mr. White from when he was a journalist and a couple of framed stories of his.

Mr. White reached out his hand, he was an older white man. His face was round with a button nose, but Clark had to give it to him, he had a full head of silver hair, something Pa would kill for. The desk had a gold name plate that read "Perry White" so Clark now knew his first name. Perry dressed pretty casual which made Clark feel a little overdressed. Perry was wearing a pink Polo with khakis and loafers and a silver wristwatch. Clark had pictured him in a full suit.

"Ah, Mr. Clark, welcome to the Planet." Clark chuckled, though Perry didn't know the true irony of what he had said.

"Thank you Mr. White, it's nice to meet you!"

"Yeah yeah, let's move on with it." Perry seemed to wave Clark's greeting away as he pulled up a tablet and started going over it. "You graduated top of your class from Metropolitan State." He looked up over the tablet at Clark, now speaking directly to him.

"Yes sir I-"

"That's good, but this would be your first journalism job, and you're fresh out of college, no experience. Why should I hire you as a reporter right out the gate? Most people work their way up in this field, especially when in your shoes."

"Well sir I-"

"I mean for god's sake son, how old are you even? Twenty-one?"

"I'm 24 sir." Clark finally cut Perry off and took a step toward him. "And I didn't come here banking on just my college transcripts sir. I have something I want to give to you."

"I don't do bribes son."

"It's not really a bribe, it's my work, let me show you why you should hire me as a reporter." Clark pulled out a small notebook from the inside pocket of his jacket and flipped through the pages.

"I don't have time fo-"

"You've heard of the man in blue right?" Clark said, again interrupting him. Perry stopped talking for a second to listen, his attention grabbed. "Well, I got an exclusive interview with him, I want it to be the first story I print with The Daily Planet." Clark said holding onto the journal tight. Perry locked eyes with Clark not saying anything for a while before clearing his throat.

"How's a country bumpkin like you get a scoop like that?"

"Damn fine reporter work sir." Clark said, a confident smirk upon his face. Perry smirked too.

"Let's hear it son."

Clark flipped open his notebook and began at the beginning. It was almost 23 years ago, in the far outreaches of space there was a planet called Krypton.
