Author note

Welcome to 'You picked the wrong guy'

What is this I can hear you scream? A story from me that does not contain Danni in any shape or form, well yep that is exactly what this is, before I created Danni and that universe I dabbled in McDanno, in fact Danni came about because I wanted to show just how quickly Steve and Danny would have ended up together in a relationship if one of them was female.

I've always been a Danny girl and it's always been important to me that he shines, the show might have forgotten how amazing he was but I never have and wanted to write something to show how capable he is.

Anyway please enjoy

Official Summary

Danny felt almost sorry for his kidnappers, they had clearly thought when they abducted him from broad daylight that he would be the easiest of the Five-O taskforce to subdue. It was just a shame for them that they had gotten it so, so wrong. (McDanno, standalone story)

Chapter One

Danny Williams's Point of View

The first thing which greeted Detective Danny Williams when he slowly opened his eyes was darkness, not a sheer darkness that pressed down on you but the kind where it took moments for your eyes to start adjusting to it.

The second was that he was definitely not in his bed or anywhere else he might have expected to be.

His mind felt foggy, his thoughts racing around in a way which made him feel nausea as he tried to figure out why it was so dark when moments ago it had been day time and the sun had been beating down on him with the usual intensity it always did.

He tried to remember but the memories skirted away from him, leaving him feeling confused and off balanced.

Had he gone home and fallen asleep and somehow missed the whole afternoon with no one coming to look for him? He knew that a day spent on doing nothing but paperwork for their previously closed cases could be boring but he had never quite managed to block the whole experience, and everything which went with it, from his mind before.

The third thing he realized was that his body was moving up and down, sliding from side to side on a rough surface. He reached down and touched what he was lying on with his fingertips, surprised to feel felt beneath his touch. He realized almost instantly that he must have been lying on a carpet of some description. His hands and feet were bound tightly together with what felt like masking tape and the back of his neck was throbbing painfully, sending a shooting pain down his back indicating that he had suffered from some kind of hit which had come from behind.

Grunting, Danny twisted around so he was on his back and reached up, feeling around him to give himself an idea on what he was dealing with, thankful at least that whoever had tied him up and tied his hands in front of him, instead of behind his back making it easier for him to move. The area he was in was small and empty other than for himself. That, added to the bumping sensation he had been experiencing since waking up, probably meant that he was now in the trunk of a car being transported to a secondary location.

He breathed out shakily, allowing himself five second to give into the panic which swept through him at the realization that he was trapped in a small confined space with no way of getting out. His stomach churned, his breathing quickening as his claustrophobia made itself known before he ruthlessly cut it off before it could take hold of him properly.

The last thing he could do given his current circumstances was to give into fear

Fear would cripple him and make him slow and stupid and he needed everything in him working clearly to get through the experience which he knew was coming.

People who were as well known and instantly recognisable as himself didn't tend to be kidnapped just for the sake of it. There was always a reason behind it and it was up to Danny to figure out that reason. Once he did, then he would know a great deal more about what he was facing and how to get out of it.

Danny closed his eyes, searching through his scattered memories, trying to build up a picture in his mind of how exactly he ended up here in the trunk of a car.

He could remember leaving the Five-O headquarters to get some lunch. His partner Steve McGarrett had been in his own office preparing for the meeting he had with the Governor that afternoon and Danny knew the older man would need every spare second of his time that he had available to him to go through the various reports of the cases the Governor would want to question him about so he could answer them. This Governor unlike the last one was determined to dot every I and cross every t, no doubt always aware that he could be accused of being corrupt like his predecessor had been, though in her case the accusations had been true.

Danny had taken pity on his partner and had told the other man that he would pick him up something to eat and bring it back to the office to save him the time. Chin Ho Kelly had been working in his office while Kono Kalakaua was nowhere to be seen which could have meant she was taking the one long lunch which she was allowed on a weekly basis to hit the waves. The newest member of their team Lou Grover was in his office as well, looking down at something, which judging from the frown he had been sporting had made little to no sense to him. He had taken the time to ask Lou what he wanted for lunch, taking his order before he left with a wave at Chin, knowing from the fact that Chin was eating from a big bowl that he was good when it came to food.

He had driven himself to the local farmer's market to pick up from food for the evening since he wouldn't have time after work and had placed them into the back of his car before he had driven to the nearby coffee shop which was owned by his former partner Meka Hanamoa's wife and which had the sandwiches which Danny loved and that was it. The only memory he had after that was the feeling of a sharp, burning pain at the back of his neck which had spread throughout his body like a fire.

Danny shifted again, moving his bound arms over one of his shoulder and gently probed at the tender skin on his neck, wincing at the sharp pain which the simple action caused him. The skin was hot to touch beneath his fingertips meaning that he had been tasered which would explain why he had clearly gone down like a sack of potato with no fight.

His mouth was dry so he had probably been out of it for about an hour or so which would mean that the rest of his team would be beginning to wonder where he was. He shifted his arms again and patted this hand awkwardly down his body, silently cursing when he realised that he had nothing on him which the others could use to trace him, indicating that someone had done their homework on the method Five-O employed to keep an eye on each other's locations at all times.

Clearly today was not his lucky day and the rescue which he had assumed would happen would be delayed meaning that he would have to rely on himself and his own abilities to get himself out of this mess.

He listened carefully, frowning at the muffled sound of singing he could hear which no doubt meant that his kidnappers had the radio on, he could feel the vehicle was moving at a smooth, steady pace, probably reflecting the speed limit of the area they were travelling in, in order to not bring any additional attention to themselves. If he had been gone for about an hour then it should be around about two in the afternoon, just after the normal midday day rush and a couple of hours before the evening one kicked in but there should still be enough cars around for what he wanted to do.

Danny moved again, hunching himself over so his back was facing towards the main area of the car and kicked out, ignoring the pain which shot up his leg at the action. It took two more kicks until the tail light shattered, scattering glass onto the road below. Danny stayed still, listening carefully for any changes but the muffled song simply continued and the car remained at the same speed indicating that whoever was driving the vehicle had heard him or noticed anything.

Danny growled, shaking his head.

If he had managed to be kidnapped by a group of punk ass kids then he would never hear the end of it from his team.

He shifted his body again, grunting at the effort until his head was near the new source of light. He squinted in it, ignoring the pain as he peered through the gap, his eyes flickering around him trying to take in as many details as he could. The road from what he could see what empty behind them and greenery surrounded them meaning that they were on one of the lesser used roads.

Danny rolled his eyes, wishing for a moment that things could be easier before he skirted forward, resting his bound hands by the gap and forced his fingers through, the edge of the glass cutting into him though that didn't matter. None of the main roads would remain empty the whole time and he might get lucky and someone might see his hands, realise what was happening and make a call into HPD about it.

If he knew Steve then the other man would be looking for anything which might indicate where Danny had been taken and a report of an apparent kidnap victim in the trunk of a car might help. God knew his partner was an intelligent man when he wasn't acting like a Neanderthal animal.

For a moment he found himself wondering what would happen if no one saw him or came for him but he pushed the thought away from his mind before it could take root.

If no one came for him then he would simply get himself out of his current mess, it wouldn't be the first time he had to rely solely on himself and his own skills and he highly doubted that it would be the last either.

One way or another Danny was going home.

The only real question was how many bodies would he have to climb over to do it?
