"Agh!" Zuko yelled in pain, crashing into the ground on his back.

Landing across from him on one boot gracefully before bringing down the other, Azula smirked amused.

"Hmph."

The time was midday with the sun at its zenith in the cloudless sky.

The location was outside the crater of the fire nation capital, in a large grassy field extending as far as the eye can see.

And the reason was their sparring session their father mandated they have once a month.

But today's location was unique as Azula elected to have the outing outside the usual palace training grounds and instead in their current whereabouts.

A decision she won by besting Zuko with one arm behind her back in the previous month's sparring match.

Rising halfway up, Zuko grimaced mouth open in pain as he hovered a hand over his left eye where there was a red welt from the fiery kick Azula had just delivered to him.

"Oof." Azula's mocking voice caught his attention as he looked up at her.

Her smirk widened cruelly as she folded her arms, eyeing her work satisfied.

"You…!" Zuko fumed rising to his feet.

"You think this is funny?!"

"Hilarious." Azula replied smugly.

Zuko seethed.

"What if this leaves a scar?!" He shouted enraged.

Azula's smirk fell from her face.

"Gee, I don't know." Azula rolled her eyes apathetically.

Smirking, she looked back at him.

"Maybe you'll thank me, some girls find scars attractive." She taunted.

She could see Zuko mentally snap as he clenched his fists tightly at his side.

"I…I hate you!" He shouted, orange flames erupting from his hands.

Unfolding her arms, Azula dropped into a fighting stance.

"And I you, brother." She smirked.

Ten feet separated the two as Zuko made the first move.

Punching forward his fists, he sent two orange balls of flame at Azula.

Smirk widening, Azula watched the balls of flame approach her before jumping into the air and dispelling them with two spinning kicks that shot out two waves of azure fire at Zuko.

Grimacing as they rapidly approached him, Zuko could have dived out of the way.

Instead, he tried to dispel her fire like she did his.

He failed miserably as the waves of flame pelted his body sending him rolling back.

Catching himself on all fours, Zuko looked up in shock as Azula was in front of him with a cocked back fist.

She smirked at his surprise as he rose his arms in front of himself to block.

The bone shattering blow resounded in the air around them as Zuko felt it resonate through his entire body that quaked.

Dropping his guard, Zuko prepared to charge forward when he stopped in surprise.

Azula stood there smirking, with her fists raised up below her chin.

Challenging him to hand-to-hand combat.

Now while Azula was the undisputed better of the two when it came to bending, hand to hand was a much closer contest – relatively speaking.

So, one might ask, why would Azula put herself at such a disadvantage?

The answer was one Zuko knew all too well.

She just didn't want to beat him, she wanted to destroy him.

Completely humiliate him and break his spirit.

Raising up his guard, Zuko accepted her challenge.

She was more agile than him, but he had more brute force.

If he played to his strengths then all he had to do was wait for her to make the first move and then-

Zuko was completely taken off guard by a fist across his face.

He didn't even see her move…

But this time he would, he affirmed recomposing himself-

Two strikes this time and an elbow.

Zuko roaring in rage began swinging wildly at her.

Azula easily evading, gripped his arm and kicking his feet from underneath him sent him falling forward right into her knee.

Falling forward with the wind being knocked out of him, Azula then kicked him in his back sending him sliding face first in the dirt.

Blasting off with fire from his hands Zuko charged back at her with a fist.

Azula moved her head out of the way at the last second as Zuko's punch missed by inches.

She smirked at him with his arm still extended past her face as Zuko scowling at her suddenly felt it.

Coughing up spit, he looked down to see her fist planted into his gut.

Removing it, Azula watched as Zuko sunk to his knees hunched over in pain.

"Does little Zuzu have a tummy ache?" Azula mocked smirking.

Zuko, forehead pressed against the ground, gripping his stomach, grunted in frustration and pain through gritted teeth.

Azula let a euphoric look wash over her features as she eyed Zuko ravenously.

"You should get used to that position, when I'm firelord, I'm going to make you my personal footstool." She murmured out steamily.

Zuko grumbled out something incoherently.

Azula smirked.

"What's that, Zuko? You're going to have to speak up." Azula mocked squatting down with a hand behind her ear.

Growling, Zuko raised his head up from the ground to look at her.

"I said, you're never going to be firelord." He spat.

Azula's smirk widened as she stared at him amused.

"Oh, why's that?" She asked curiously.

"Because…" Zuko rumbled.

"Everyone would hate you."

Anger flashed across Azula's face as she swung at Zuko's face.

Catching her fist in his hand, Azula was taken aback as she quickly swung her other fist.

Zuko caught that one too as he quickly rose to his feet and moved his grip to her wrists.

A smirk came to Zuko's lips, he felt the rush of victory course through his body as Azula tugged against his hold with a look of panic trying to free herself to no avail.

He had her now, there was no escaping, she couldn't outpower him.

It was over-

Azula suddenly stopped struggling and looked at him with a smirk.

A look of dread shot across Zuko's face before Azula jumped off her feet and wrapped her calves around his neck.

"What?!" He thought grimacing down at her through squinted eyes.

Azula smirking back tensed her legs as the sides of Zuko's face became smooched in.

Feeling his air supply being cut off by the pressure, Zuko knew if he didn't try and pry her legs off of him, he was going to pass out.

But he was extremely reluctant to do, even given the circumstances.

He had her right in the palms of his hands…

Azula increased the pressure.

Having no other choice, Zuko finally released her wrists.

To his shock however he felt her grip his hands back.

Now he was struggling to outpower her.

But she was using her body weight to negate the difference in their strength.

Finally managing to free himself, Azula gripped his garb to hold herself up as Zuko went to work on prying off her legs.

He may have had her beat in upper body strength, but lower body…

His head felt like it was about to be popped off like a cork.

Everything started to go black as Zuko began to lose consciousness.

Summoning the last bit of his strength, he gripped her by the legs and lifting her up tried to slam her down.

Zuko finally felt Azula's legs release around his neck as she caught herself in a handstand.

Gasping for air, as he fell to his knees, Zuko was stopped by a pair of fingers under his chin.

"You lose." Azula declared smugly crouching in front of him as electricity danced around her fingers.

Grimacing in trepidation, Zuko was guided up slowly to his feet by her.

"…Bang!" Azula shouted making Zuko flinch and her laugh.

"Oh, I am going to miss this." She remarked fondly with a smile.

"But you see I think we reached the end of this little game."

"What game?!" Zuko barked.

Electricity cackled around Azula's fingers as she nudged them up into Zuko's chin.

"Don't interrupt, Zuko, it's so rude." She said with a dull expression before returning to a smile.

"You see one of these days father's going to ask me to kill you, seeing you're a complete and utter disgrace."

"So, me, being the benevolent future firelord-" Azula brought a hand over her chest.

"Rather just put you out of your misery right here and now and spare you any future suffering."

"Feel free to thank me."

Zuko growled at her.

"You would never get away with it, even if it was father's wishes, the people would never accept you as firelord if you killed me-" Zuko was cut off from a nudge from Azula's fingers again.

Azula sighed.

"It amazes me sometimes that were related, when you don't seem to have two brain cells to rub together in that empty skull of yours." She said a look of disappointment on her face.

"If I kill you out in the middle of nowhere, genius, no would know, because were in the middle of nowhere." She drawled out.

Zuko grimaced in anger.

"You had this planned from the beginning!" He roared.

"Well, I sure didn't come out here for sightseeing." Azula smirked.

"And you're going to say what, I died tripping on a rock?!" Zuko scorned.

A look of surprised came across Azula's face.

"I was actually going to say swallowed whole by a giant lizard, but your idea is so much more pathetic and consequently believable, let's go with that." Azula smiled happily.

Zuko scowled.

"No one would believe you." He spat.

Smirking, Azula brought her face up to his.

"Wouldn't they?" She boasted.

Looking at her confused, Zuko watched as she then swayed back from him and bowed her head so her eyes were hidden.

He didn't know what she was up to, but it couldn't be good.

Suddenly…

A whimper.

Zuko's eyes widened in surprise as then he saw it.

A single sparkling tear fall from her face onto the ground.

What…?

Slowly raising her face up to him, Zuko's surprise turned into shock.

Azula was crying…

Her golden orbs glistening with tears streaming down from them with heavy eyelids.

Her thin lips slightly parted were curled downwards into a frown.

Taking a step closer to him, she brought a hand gently up to his face and cupped the side of it.

Zuko exhaled stunned as her golden eyes bored into his, right into his soul.

Her lips then began to tremble as it looked like she wanted to tell him something.

Zuko was speechless as he could only stare at her, awestruck.

Unable to get the words past her lips, Azula bowed her head and dropped her hand on his face to his chest where she nuzzled her crying face into.

It took a couple of seconds, but Zuko finally snapped out his stunned stupor as he looked down to see Azula's weeping form latched onto him.

Hand trembling at his side, Zuko raised it slowly to Azula's back…

"Haha…" Her crying distorted.

Zuko's hand froze.

Pulling back from his chest with her head bowed, her crying continued to distort into...

"Hahahahaha!" Azula raised her laughing face up with tears flying from it.

Zuko's face widened in shock and confusion.

"The look on your face! You're such a sucker!" Azula laughed.

It hit him like a ton of bricks.

It was an act.

She had played him.

Zuko's hands balled into fists as he felt an all-consuming rage rise up in him.

He was such an idiot.

She had never even removed her fingers from underneath his chin…

Zuko grumbled in anger at Azula still laughing at him.

Fists shaking, Zuko felt his rage boil over.

Then suddenly, inexplicably, it ceased.

Zuko's fists untensed and the anger that was once on his face fell, leaving behind…

"Still have doubts people would believe me, dum-dum?" Azula said grinning wiping a tear of laughter from her eye.

Zuko appeared to be a thousand miles away, deep in thought as he didn't respond, only stared at her with a look of disappointment on his face.

A look of annoyance flashed across Azula's face.

She didn't like being ignored, nor being looked at like so, by him.

"Hello, earth kingdom to Zuko!" Azula rammed her fingers into his chin.

Zuko looked like he had just been snapped out of trance.

"What?!" He shouted muddled.

Azula smirked, regaining her composure.

"Aren't you going to beg for your life, before I, you know…?" Azula asked impishly.

He scowled.

"What's the point?!" He asked turning his gaze to the side and away from her.

"It's not like it'll make a difference."

"True." Azula said jaded tilting her head back and to the side.

It was fun at first, but she was quickly becoming bored with this little charade.

Truth be told she had no intention of actually killing Zuko, he was far too much fun to mess with to get rid of.

That's why she brought him out here to convince him she was going to kill him, but now he had resigned himself to his fate – boring...

She wanted him to get angry, incensed, to stare at her with that burning hatred in his eyes, like she was the only person in the world.

Something tinged at Azula's heart.

But before she ended the act, there was something bothering her that she wanted to know.

"Hey, I'm curious." Azula caught Zuko's attention as he looked back at her.

"What were you thinking when I called your name a couple seconds ago?" She asked flatly.

Dread set into Zuko's features as Azula could feel his entire body tense up from the tips of her fingers.

It was absolutely exhilarating.

"Oh…?" Azula leaned into Zuko's face with a smirk.

"Keeping secrets from your little sister?"

"Shame on you, Zuzu."

"Come on you can tell me, what were you thinking?" She asked bewitchingly in his ear.

Zuko grunted in frustration.

"I was thinking how you're such a pain in the-" Zuko was cut off by Azula ramming her fingers into Zuko's chin.

"No, that wasn't it." She said frowning turning her gaze and putting on a look of indifference.

"I'll tell you what, I'll give you to the count of three, and if you don't tell me, then I'll just kill you anyway."

She looked at him with fire in her smoldering eyes.

"One."

Zuko grunted in panic.

What should he do?

Tell her?

No, he couldn't…

He would die from embarrassment.

"Two."

He felt his heart begin to thump inside his chest.

She was bluffing, she had to be…

But what if she wasn't?

Maybe he could just lie…

No, she would know.

But the truth was just as likely to get him killed.

Time came to standstill as Zuko looked at her fiery eyes staring at him.

Whatever he decided, he somehow knew, in the next second, his life would change forever.

He closed his eyes.

"Three."

"I was thinking you looked pretty!" He shouted out.

Opening his eyes in shock that he told the truth, Zuko saw Azula's face reflect his own.

Turning his face away from her with a pout, Azula glared at him reaffirming her fingers under his chin.

A blush filled both of their cheeks.

"I mean…" Zuko didn't know how to finish that sentence.

It didn't matter, he was sure she was going to fry him any second.

…Nothing.

Turning his head slowly back to her, Zuko locked eyes with her.

She was staring at him intensely.

Searching for something…

Slap!

Zuko's face recoiled to the side from the blow.

A look of shock on his face.

He had expected to be electrocuted, instead she…

He turned back to her with a look of anger on his face.

His face lit up in surprise.

There she was, enveloped in a ray of divine light shining down from the heavens.

Arms folded across her tiny waist, a pout on her face turned off and to the side.

…and the faintest of blushes on her porcelain cheeks.

She looked…

"Close your mouth if you're going to gawk, idiot." She scorned feebly surprising him.

Glancing at him, her blush deepened before turning her face away again.

Zuko realizing he was gawking and with his mouth open in fact, turned his head away with an awkward frown.

A light breeze passed through grass and by the two as they stood in silence not able to face one another.

Zuko looked up as Azula turned around.

"Let's go home." She said softly.

Eyeing her curiously as she walked off, Zuko stepped forward onto another road.
