Hey guys!

I rewrote The Forgotten Wife and I've been playing the Attack On Titan games on the PS4, my writing muse is coming back slowly over time. I would like to get back into the AOT, it's coming to an end soon which is sad since it's a fantastic anime.

Chapter 1!
The Upper World wasn't what Lorna had expected, it was nothing like the Underground City. She could see the sky for a start and then there was the sunlight, it had been blinding at first but she soon got use to it. The streets were clean and the people up here were much more politer than the people of the Underground City, it was a lot safer up here too. The walls surrounding the different districts amazed Lorna when she first saw them, she had never seen anything like these gigantic walls before. They were incredible, she wanted to learn more about them at some point.
Lorna remembered her second day on the surface, she had explored the whole district and walked through a field to get to the wall they called Wall Maria. It was nothing but stone, but someone told her that the walls had been built over a hundred years and they were over fifty meters tall. Whoever had built these walls must have been a genius or a giant, she how no idea how they had built the walls and avoid the Titans at the same time. It was a mystery to her, but the walls were doing their job and keeping the people of the districts safe from the horrors that lurked beyond the walls.
There was a group of people who worshiped the walls like Gods, they were called The Wall Cult and they were basically mocked by most of the townsfolk. Lorna tried her best to ignore them when they ranted in the streets or came into the Tavern where she was working to try and gain some new members. It was different up here and there wasn't any thugs which was a good thing, but she would get use to it over time.
Lorna had been living on the surface for over six months now, she could say her life was very comfortable. She had a good job in The Blue Bird Tavern in the Shiganshina District, the room she stayed in above the Tavern was big with it's own fireplace and washroom. The Landlord and his family were friendly, his Daughter April whom she worked with in the bar area was becoming quite a good friend to Lorna. But the only problem she had was Erwin Smith, he would come to the Tavern each month to checkup on her and make sure she wasn't looking for Levi even though she had been given a few leads about his location from locals.
People had seen Levi riding through the Shiganshina District with the Survey Corps, so she knew he was still alive. She had also been asking around about Farlan and Isabel, but they were unknown to everyone around here. Erwin was beginning to get on Lorna's nerves though, she swore he had arranged for someone to follow her around the district when she left the Tavern to do her day to day chores for the Landlord. It felt like she was being watched when she visited the market place or if she was taking a stroll through the streets, she had stop looking for Levi until she felt safe again. It could be Lorna's imagination playing tricks on her though, she wasn't sure yet.
The people up here were celebrating a strange festival tonight, the Tavern was closed for the evening. It was the day of Samhain and the villagers were getting ready to celebrate it, Lorna had never taken part in any festival celebrations before since she moved up here. They never had festivals in Underground City, so this was all new to Lorna. She had learned it was about the celebration of the end of the harvest and the start of the coldest half of the year. She had heard there was a darker side to Samhain though, but most of the villagers liked having parties and dressing in masks made from the leftover harvest.
They were arranging a celebration on the field outside of Shiganshina District, they had been moving barrels of ale and building a maypole for the last five days. They had even build stone ovens for cooking meat filled pies and oven baked potatoes in them, the celebration of Samhain did sound great. Lorna had worked until the evening like the Landlord and the rest of his family, they planned on going to the Samhain celebration together. The Landlord's six year old Son named Jacob had made each of them a mask to wear, he had used colouful leaves and flowers he had gathered from the fields earlier in the day. He had a talent for making stuff, he wanted to be an inventor when he grew up.
Lorna, Jacob and April left the Tavern after it had gotten dark. The Landlord and his wife Rose planned to join them later on after they had tidied up the Tavern's bar area, Lorna had offered to help them clean up. But they had told her to go and have fun while she was still young, it felt rude to refuse their kind offer. They always told Lorna to find a husband before she became an old maid like the older Sister of Landlord, they said she may find someone at the festival this evening. Erwin had told them that Lorna's husband had been classed has missing on his first expedition outside of the wall, he had also told them that she believed he was still alive and that she had suffered deeply with remorse. They took pity on Lorna after that and they welcomed her into their home with open arms, they had told Erwin that they would help her get well again.
Lorna walked through the district's streets with the Tavern's children and they spoke to her about this odd festival, but what she saw next surprised her. There were pumpkins with candles inside of them leading the way to the giant doorway in the wall that led to the field, this festival was magical in it's own way. A group of children hurried passed them, they were all shouting and laughing about Stringy Jack was coming to get them. She had no idea what the children were talking about though, this custom was strange to her.
" Those are will-o'-the-wisp!" Jacob said, he pointed to the pumpkins. " Look at them!"
" They're just pumpkins with candles inside of them, there's a weird tale behind them though." April said.
" Do I need to know why they're there?" Lorna asked.
" We'll tell you about it later." April said.
Lorna had to stop and admire the view of the field when she got to the wall's doorway, she had never seen anything so pretty in all of her life. It truly did take her breath away, the Upper World kept surprising her everyday with something new. But she still had a lot to learn about this new world, it was very different from The Underground City. The field ahead of them was lit up with wooden touches and a giant bonfire was burning in the middle of the festival, there was music playing. It wasn't like the music they sometimes played in the Underground City's taverns, it was more of a merry tune with flutes and lutes playing together in time. Lorna breathed in the scent of the meat filled pies and oven baked potatoes wafting on the breeze towards them, it smelt heavenly.
Lorna's thoughts were interrupted by someone pulling at her hand, she saw Jacob looking up at her with a big smile on his face. He was such a sweet boy, he had short brown messy hair and blue eyes. He quickly pulled her forward and began to led her towards the festival, his fourteen year old Sister then decided to take hold of her other hand. April was like her younger Brother in looks, but her eyes were brown and she was nearly has tall has Lorna.
" Come on Lorna, we're going to miss out on all the fun!" Jacob said, he let go of her hand and hurried ahead of them. " Get your head out of the clouds before a Titan bites your head off, let's go!"
" Yes Lorna, stop day dreaming about Commander Erwin." April said, she loved teasing people. " Mother says he's got a soft spot for you because he comes to visit you each month without fail, I'm beginning to think he'll get his feet beneath your bed someday."
" It's not like that between Erwin and me, I've told your Mother the same thing over a hundred times now..." Lorna said with a sigh. " I'm not interested in him or any other man in this district, I plan to live my life alone until I am..."
" Reunited with him, we know!" April interrupted.
" Wait, I've never said that..." Lorna sighed.
" I know, but to me it sounds like a very romantic notion..." April said with a smile. " One day he may come riding back on white stallion from the other side of the wall, he'll come riding up to the Tavern's door and sweep you off your feet like they write in fairy tale books! What is your husband's name anyway? You've never told us his name, is he handsome?"
" I don't really want to talk about him..." Lorna replied.
" Oh come on Lorna, tell me how you met him?!" April asked, she linked arms with Lorna while a dreamy expression crept across her face. "Did he bring you flowers each day or dance with you under the moonlight, I want to know everything about him!"
" That's disgusting, I'm glad I'm not man yet..." Jacob said.
" Shut up Jacob, no one asked you!" April said, she licked her tongue out at her Brother. " They have a game at the festival to find out the first letter of your true love's name, all you've got to do is peal some apple skin from a whole apple and drop it into a wooden barrel filled with water."
" How's that meant to work?" Lorna asked.
" I don't know, but it sounds fun to me." April replied.
" That's not fun, we shoulder try bobbing for lucky apples or light some candles for the memory of dead..." Jacob said.
" We can do it all, we've got until midnight until the festival passes." April said.
" Great, but first I want some oven baked potatoes with butter." Jacob said.
" Jacob, you ate over an hour ago..." April said, she loved teasing her little Brother. " Where do put all of your food? Do you have worms? Maybe we should get Doctor Jaeger to check you over."
" I don't have worms!" Jacob yelled.
Lorna couldn't help but smile while the siblings continued to tease each other, they remind her of Farlan and Isabel sometimes. She rolled her eyes at them when their teasing soon turned into an argument, she told them to stop it because they were drawing attention to them. Jacob stopped yelling and looked over at some people staring at him, they soon hurried away when he made eye contact with them.
" Sorry Lorna..." Jacob said.
" Come Lorna, let's explore the festival more!" April said.
" Okay, show me what this festival is about." Lorna said.
Lorna took hold of Jacob's hand and they made their way to the field together, April told her everything she knew about the festival while they walked. She sometimes wondered what would happen if they knew the truth about her, but she planned to keep quiet about her past. If she told them that she was from the Underground City and that she once was part of a criminal group they may not trust her anymore, some people frown upon people from the Underground City because they think they're all dirty thugs down there. They may report Lorna to the Military Police even though Erwin pulled at her Landlord's heart strings to get her a place to stay, she just had to keep quiet and continue enjoying her life with them until she got a direct location on Levi.
