I land in Hawaii and slowly disembark off the plane. Once I've collect my bags I message mum to inform her I've landed. When I get outside to the public pick up I search for mum. I eventually spot her several cars down standing outside the car waving.
I pick up my pace and when we meet up I pull her into a long hug. "Hi." I greet.
"How are you?"
"I'm good, how are you?"
"Good, really good." she responds releasing me and having a good look at me. "I saw those feeds yesterday, are you ok?"
"I am. I just didn't think that would happen. I was just catching up with him and people must have seen us having a moment."
"You don't have to explain yourself. I want you to enjoy the next few days."
"I plan to. When do Uncle Allan and Auntie Lynn land?"
"Tonight."
Half an hour later we arrive at the Hilton Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki. Mum helps me with my bags and leads me to my room. When I walk in I gasp. "Wow."
"I'll let you unpack and we can all meet at the pool." She suggests.
"Sounds great. I'll see you soon then." She hugs me and leaves and I take a look at the room. It's stunning. The room is spacious, the crystal blue ocean is right in front of me. This is surreal.
Once unpacked I quickly freshen up and change into a bathing suit and a caftan and head to the pool.
Once at the pool I place my belongings on one of the pool side beds and make my way to the steps. I swim over to the bar and take a seat on one of the stools. As I'm ordering a drink I hear someone running and a splash is heard from the pool. I turn my head and let out a loud laugh as I see Eliza swimming quickly up to me. I help pull her up out of the water.
"Hello munchkin." I greet chuckling.
"Serena, hi, how are you?" She asks excitedly.
"I'm good, how has Hawaii treated you?"
"So well." She responds and I laugh as I grab my drink and Eliza attaches herself to my hip. "How's your injury?"
"All healed baby girl just need to get my strength back now."
"You look good."
"As do you precious."
After talking with Eliza, I get out of the pool and walk over to where Nick and mum are. "Hi Nick." I greet.
"Hi Serena. You look great."
"Thanks I feel good."
"I see Eliza wasted no time hanging out with you." Mum chuckles.
"It's been a while since shes seen me. The last time I saw her I was in a neck brace."
"How is your neck and shoulder going?" Nick asks.
"Good, I started using light weights but I've got a long way to go."
"Have you spoken to your boss?"
"Not recently but I'll speak to them soon."
We sit down and layout on the day beds. "It looks like you've settled in well." Mum comments.
"I have. I'm going to enjoy my vacation, I'll worry about everything else when I get back."
"Good. So how's your friend Phoebe?"
"She's good. She made me feel really welcome when I was living in Atlanta. She tried to set me up with Ian, but I just wasn't interested."
"Would that be because you can't get a certain someone out of your head?"
I nod. "Yeah and I don't think I want to either. I know right now the timing isn't right. We've hit a snag, I'm not even sure if he still likes me."
"Sweetie, he wouldn't be messaging and calling you at all hours if he didn't. He's just taking it slow, as you should."
"And I will. I don't think I want to be with anyone right now. I just want to focus on myself."
"So do that. Be single. Enjoy yourself whilst you can, because before you know it, that man is going to lock you down for good."
I smile. "How would you know that."
She smiles. "Because he would be an idiot if he didn't." She jokes. "But truthfully the feelings you have for him are the same ones I had for your dad." I look at her shocked. "We liked each other, then things got in the way then fate worked its magic and we were together and before we knew it, we had you."
I smile. "Do you think he would be proud of me?"
"Oh sweetie, beyond proud."
I smile. "Love you."
"Love you too."
Tonight we are having a family dinner. My aunt and uncle flew in this afternoon and will be joining us. For dinner I'm wearing a black dress with blue heels and my hair is in loose curls. For my make up I have gone for a natural smokey eye.
When I arrive at Teppinyaki I greet my Uncle and Aunt who I haven't seen since I was in Seattle. "How are you doing baby girl?" Aunt Lynn asks.
"I'm doing well. Fully healed, now I can focus getting my strength back."
"And you haven't been over doing it?" Allan asks.
"No I've been taking it slow."
"Good."
"How was your flight?" I ask them.
"Tiring, but we are glad we are here." Lynn replies.
We continue to catch up and eventually dinner is over and we head back to the hotel.
Waking up the next morning I get up and get ready for the day. I'm adventuring up the mountains in a Jeep. I put on denim shorts, a pink singlet and white converses with my hair in a pony. I grab my shades and a visor and I'm out the door.
I hit the road and follow the map up into the mountains. I stop for a bit and take photos of the view as I make my way up. The views are spectacular and the higher I go the more I can see can see. Eventually I make it to the lookout and when I get there I'm speechless. The view is magnificent.
I plant myself on the ground and just take it in. Never in a million years did I think I would be here. I started off in a good home then came my adolescent years, where it was extremely hard and now I'm standing well sitting at the top of a mountain, nearly 7 months after my injury and a mental breakdown in a good place.
I take some more photos and quickly Instagram my photos from today: I feel very small compared to the magnificent view behind me. #mindblown #hawaii
Tonight is the rehearsal dinner. I'm wearing a black bandage dress with white heels and my hair is in curls and my make up is subtle.
I arrive at the restaurant am seated on the left of my mother. I'm introduced to friends of my mothers and Nicks and we let the conversation begin.
After our meals are served Nick stands up and clinks his glass getting everyone's attention. "First of all I would like to thank each and every one of you for making the effort to come all this way for our wedding we love you all so much and appreciate that you'll be here for our special day." he begins. "Secondly I want to call out Serena, I've only known you for a short while but from what your mother has told me, you have come a very along way and with having you back in her life I have never seen her so happy, so thank you."
I smile and mouth. "Thank you."
He continues. "I am honoured to call you my step daughter." I smile and nod in agreement. "Lastly Karen, you are the love of my life and are a great mother to Eliza, you have overcome so much and I look at you now and you have the family you always wanted." Nick adds and my mum starts crying. "I love you and I can't wait to marry you and call you my wife."
"To Karen and Nick." I say aloud raising my glass. We all repeat in unison and clink glasses.
The next morning I wake up and decided to go for a run. After my run I shower and head out for breakfast as I only have a little time until I have to get ready for the wedding.
After breakfast I head to the salon where I get a spray tan and my hair done. My hair is in loose curls and is pinned to the side. For my make-up I have a natural smoky eye with fake eyelashes, my cheeks bronzed to perfection and my lips have a natural shade.
I get back to my hotel room and quickly get my dress on. My dress is a light blue low cut, maxi dress. There is a big slit down one of the legs that goes to my mid thighs. For my shoes I'm wearing beige heels. I look at myself in the mirror and smile thinking that months ago I was in a hospital bed and couldn't move, and now here I am, healed, wearing a gorgeous dress, in high heels, in Hawaii for my mother's wedding.
I arrive at the chapel and sit on my mother's side in the front row. I greet the people that sit behind me as we wait for the ceremony to start.
At 1:20 Nick arrives with his best man his brother and he greets the guests as he makes his way down the aisle. He eventually makes it to where I am and I pull him in for a hug him. I welcome him to the family and take my seat.
At 1:30 on the dot, music starts and the priest makes his way down the aisle. He asks us to rise as the wedding march comes on.
First to come down the aisle is Eliza wearing her junior bridesmaids dress. The next to follow is my mum and she looks beautiful. She's wearing a Vera Wang gown, the top is embroided in beautiful crystals. Mum makes her way down the aisle and as she passes me she sends me a sweet smile. She gets to the alter and Nick retrieves her hand and the priest begins. They say each other's vows and the priest announces them husband and wife.
It's photo time after the vows and the wedding photographer is snapping away at the newlyweds. To start off it's just the two of them then it's family photos. I start with a photo of mum and I, then mum Nick Eliza and I, then one of Eliza and I, and lastly Nick and I, this continued on for an hour more.
After photos are complete my cheeks are in pain but its time for the reception. We are driven in limos to the hotel function room. As I walk in I take in the beautiful set up. The room has five circular tables set with beautiful table toppers that fit up to 10 people and there is a rectabgular table at the centre of the room that is for the bride and groom and the family. To the front of the hall is a dance floor with a DJ.
The night goes off without a hitch. We ate, we drank, we danced, mum tossed the bouquet and Eliza caught it. Nick threw mums garter and we danced some more and by the end of the night my feet were throbbing. I stumble back to my room and kick my shoes off. I crash onto the bed and smile at how things are turning out for me, I'm looking forward to the future now.
