Kyle is walking around at lunch minding his own business when he is shoved in the back causing him to fall to the ground.
"Argh!" He moans as he tries to push himself up only to be shoved into the ground when a foot slams against his back.
"Hey geek!" He hears Cory Watson say.
"Hey guys." Kyle mutters. He hates these two! For as long as he can remember they've used him as a human punching bag.
Dan Watson kneels down and pulls Kyle's glasses off his face and throws them away."It's nice to see you. Is it nice to SEE us!" He says howling with laughter.
Kyle rolls his eyes, that wasn't even funny! They'll just take any opportunity to tease him about anything.
Cory grabs ahold of him and lifts him up, placing him on his feet facing them. "He asked you a question, geek!"
"Well, I can't see you so I can't answer that!" Kyle replies, not giving them the answer, he knew they wanted.
Unfortunately, he also didn't see the fist that was heading towards his face.
With a loud thud he landed on the grass grabbing ahold of his face immediately.
"You're like a walking stereotype geek! You were glasses and you're a nerd you're also such a pretty boy and you're gay" Cory howls with laughter.
"Just because I wear glasses doesn't make me a nerd and I'm not gay." Kyle explains to his bullies, but this only makes things worse.
"Oh really! You're not gay! How come you've never had a girlfriend!" Cory barks.
"I'm only sixteen, there's no rule that you have to have a girlfriend by that age." Kyle replies.
"Don't talk back to us geek!" Cory screams at him.
"But you asked me a question." Kyle stutters.
Cory sees red, he grabs ahold of Kyle's hair and sharply pulls it. This causes Kyle to scream out in pain.
"I said don't talk back to us!"
"I'm sorry!" Kyle cries.
Suddenly the bell rings. Kyle's lets out a sigh of relief. He's saved. Cory and Dan aren't allowed to be late to anymore classes or they get after school detentions. Something that they both agreed even beating up Kyle wasn't worth.
"See you in English geek!" Dan laughs as they both walk away.
Sighing Kyle pushes himself up and squints so he can try and see his glasses. He really needs to try contacts; he'll still be bullied for being a geek but at least they'll be harder to take off than glasses.
He gets on his knees and starts to feel around, luckily Dan didn't throw them very far and Kyle's able to find them in under a minute.
He then makes his way to English and makes it just in time. He walks to his normal seat and is tripped.
"Nerd down!" Cory yells.
The class erupts with laughter, hardly any of the kids found it funny. But laughing at something lame was better than getting beaten up.
"That's enough class! Calm down!" Mr MacGuire says.
Kyle pushes himself up and sits down. "Reminder the senior spelling bee is tomorrow after school for anyone who would like to come and watch. Kyle will be competing"
Cory turns to look at Kyle. "Do you know how to spell typical?" He smirks and the turns back to the front.
Kyle just rolls his eyes. "Do you know how to spell at all?" Kyle replies before he can stop himself, he immediately knows he's dead meat.
"You're dead geek!"
"Now it's time for everyone to start thinking about their creative writing pieces. These are due next Wednesday so you can spend today starting to plan for them.
Kyle gets out his pen and paper and starts to plan, He loves creative writing, It's one of his favourite parts of English class, along with spelling and speeches.
"So, nerd are you going to write a story where you actually have a friend, I mean that's as fiction as you can get." Cory laughs as he turns to face Kyle before whacking him around the head.
Kyle can't help but roll his eyes. But he continues to write his story. He has one that he has been thinking of writing for a while. It's a murder mystery with several different suspects, and there is a shock ending. He plans everything, how the death occurs, all the characters and their physical appearances, the ending and the aftermath. He then starts to write. He doesn't get very far when the paper is ripped off his desk. He turns and sees Cory holding it with a malicious smile on his face. Kyle also saw that Mr MacGuire isn't in the class. That's just perfect.
"Hey everyone listen up! Listen to geek boy's story!"
"The windows rattle as the wind blows, the storm wasn't slowing down, in fact it was getting worse. The four of them are standing in the living room staring at the dead body in front of them, one of them has killed her, but who? Mrs Bates is dead, murdered in her own house, on her birthday.
The house shakes as all old houses do, although this feels more ferociously it almost feels like a sign, as if the house knows that someone has killed it's owner and it isn't going to subside until the guilty party is found." Cory reads and then turns to Kyle with a wicked smile on his face. "Well would you look at that! A house cares for an old bat more than another human being will ever care for you." Cory howls with laughter screwing up the paper and throwing it at Kyle's head.
Kyle unscrews the paper and is more than willing to just let it go, yelling out will only encourage them. Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
"So, geek! Is the lady's death like your social life or is it a cry for help because you're so pathetic!"
"Leave the guy alone! You know since Kyle arrived when we were in year four all I've seen you two do is pick on him! You're both at least twice his size! Honestly what do you get out of making his life miserable? Pleasure, if so that's really sad!" Lucas Jones, one of the boys in their year says.
"Shut it Jones! We can do whatever we like and if any one of you has an issue that that you can be on our list as well!" Dan hisses, he then sneers down at Kyle. "Now answer my brother's question loser! Is this a cry for help, if so no one will listen, do you know why? Everyone wants you dead!"
"If anyone goes to the principal, we won't only start beating you up, but we'll also start treating him worse than we already do!" Cory says. "You get me!" He yells. Everyone nods. He then turns back to Kyle.
"You'll never have any friends!" He sneers in his ear. "Not that you have had any in the first place anyway. You're just such a pathetic little geek!"
Kyle drops his head. Why couldn't this all stop? He's always loved school but there is no denying that his first three years were his favourite. That was when he was still living in Melbourne with his Mum, He was a happy kid who had heaps of friends. But that all ended on the night the 20th of July. He and his mum had been bowling and were driving home, that was when a driver had t-boned them. It was on his mum's side and she died instantly from the impact, he on the other hand had whacked his head hard against the window and fell unconscious, when he woke up two days later, he noticed that he had blurred vision and then had found out that his mum had died. It was heartbreaking, to make things worse as far as anyone knew he had no other living relatives, so he had been placed in a foster home. There were a couple of kids there that would bully him relentlessly both at home and at school, they teased him relentlessly about his glasses. They would always call him four eyes and steal his glasses and laugh at him as he bumped into things trying to find them. He hated it. Luckily six months after he arrived at the foster home, his social worker had turned up and told him that he had half-brothers and he was immediately sent off to live with them. Luckily this caused his home life to get a lot better, but his time at school didn't improve at all. In fact, it got worse. Cory and Dan beat him up way more than his foster brothers ever did.
Luckily for Kyle Mr MacGuire walks back into the classroom so he would get a bit of a break from Cory and Dan.
The rest of the class goes by quick enough and soon enough the bell rings which meant that it was time for Maths. Kyle gathers up all his stuff and starts to walk only to once again be tripped by Cory. Unfortunately, Mr MacGuire thinks nothing of this as Kyle is a very clumsy person who is always tripping, sometimes even without help from his bullies.
"You might want to get new legs geek! Yours seem to be failing a lot!" Cory whispers wickedly in Kyle's ear.
Kyle once again rolls his eyes. Did these guys really think they were funny?
He watches as they both make their way out of the classroom; he doesn't push himself up until they exit the classroom. He is about to walk out of the classroom when Mr MacGuire calls him back.
'Hey Kyle, are you available to meet up with Jennifer and I after school. I'll be testing the two of you on spelling words." Mr MacGuire asks.
"Yeah, I can come." Kyle replies. He is very happy that he had an excuse not to walk home immediately. With any luck Cory and Dan will have already gone home by the time he was finished.
"Thanks Kyle, see you then." Mr MacGuire replies.
Kyle quickly makes his way to Maths, luckily his seat in Maths is right at the front so there is no way that Cory or Dan can trip him.
"Okay class, today all I need you to do is these three worksheets. They will give you all an indication on what the upcoming test is going to be like, once you have completed all three worksheets and I have marked them you are free to spend the rest of the class doing anything that you want as long as it is quiet." Miss Harper, the Maths teacher says as she places one of each of the three papers on each student's desk.
As soon as Kyle gets his he starts, he found it very easy to concentrate as Cory and Dan are sitting nowhere near him, so they couldn't give him grief. Within ten minutes he's done all three. He gets out of his seat and approaches Miss Harpers desk.
"Uh Miss Harper, I'm done." Kyle says as he hands over his three papers.
"Thank you, Kyle, I'll quickly mark these." Miss Harper replies, although she already knows that they will all be correct.
After she was finished marking them, she hands the sheets back to Kyle. Well done Kyle! 100% correct." Miss Harper smiles. "You are now free to do whatever you want at your desk."
Kyle walks over and takes out his new comic book that Brax had got him last week. Eventually the bell rings and class finishes, he puts all his things into his bag and quickly makes his way out the door and straight to Mr MacGuire's classroom. He sees that Jennifer is already there as she just had English with Mr MacGuire. Kyle quickly takes his seat next to Jennifer, he sees Cory and Dan walk past and glare at him, and he couldn't be more thankful that they couldn't get to him.
"Okay, so Jennifer you can start. Spell the word sovereign." Mr MacGuire says.
"S-O-V-E-R-E-I-G-N" Jennifer spells out.
"Well done! Kyle spell apprehension."
"A-P-P-R-E-H-E-N-S-I-O-N" Kyle replies.
"Correct, Jennifer despondent?"
"D-E-S-P-O-N-D-E-N-T"
"Courageous" Mr MacGuire says looking at Kyle.
"C-O-U-R-A-G-E-O-U-S" Kyle spells back. He felt very confident about the upcoming spelling bee, spelling was just something that comes easily to him. If he was honest he found these words that Mr MacGuire was asking the two of them way too easy.
They continue to practice, and Kyle gets them all correct, he is thrilled, he feels so ready for this spelling bee.
Okay last one, this one's a race spell effervescent." Mr MacGuire says.
"E-F-F-E-R-V-E-S-C-E-N-T" Kyle spells as soon as Mr MacGuire says the word.
"Wonderful, thanks to both of you and I will see you tomorrow." Mr MacGuire says as the two of them start to walk out of the classroom.
"Hey Jennifer. are you looking forward to tomorrow?" Kyle asks as he can Jennifer start to walk out of the building.
"Yeah, I'm just hoping I come second even third would be awesome." Jennifer smiles as Kyle opens the door for her.
"What about first?" He asks.
Jennifer laughs sweetly. "Kyle, you're going to get first, you're incredible. It's like there is a dictionary in your head." Jennifer says. "Anyways, are you meeting Casey?" She asks.
"Ah yeah, I told him I would meet him by the basketball courts." Kyle replies. "You meeting up with your friends?"
"Yeah, there are my friends right there." Jennifer smiles as she points out her two friends, who wave at Kyle.
"Well, you have a good rest of the afternoon and I'll see you tomorrow." Kyle smiles at her.
"Sounds good Kyle." Jennifer replies and she walks over to her friends.
Kyle starts to slowly make his way to the basketball courts to meet up with his little brother.
