It was early in the morning in Storybrook Village, a place where many fairytale nursery rhyme characters lived in a peaceful loving community. Barely anyone was up at this hour besides the occasional rooster clucking its morning call, but soon the small and faint pit-patter of someone running could be heard, echoing throughout the empty streets.

A boy ran through the town, twisting and turning down a familiar path into a part of the woods that was well worn into his memory. This was a little too early for him, yes, but he was on a mission, and no one was going to stop him.

This young fellow was known as Whyatt Beanstalk: a boy who had tan skin, ear-length brown hair, and piercing blue eyes. He wore his usual blue and green polo striped shirt with a soft green undershirt, beige khakis, and tannish tennis shoes, just like any other day. Sure, he was just one of many fairytale kids out there in the village, except, he had a secret, one super big secret that he couldn't ever tell.

And he wasn't alone. Just a few feet behind him, a spotted Golden Retriever puppy named Woofster was joyfully running behind, his tongue hanging out and his tail wagging ever so happily.

"Come on," Whyatt smiled back at Woofster, "We're almost there!"

It didn't take long for the two to arrive at the secret location hidden in the woods: a clubhouse. It might've seemed normal to the naked eye but had a classic story wrap to it. A large open book would take place as the roof while being suspended by four No. 2 pencils and the doorway had a huge question mark dead-centered in the middle.

The two smiled at each other and the boy laid a hand on the doorway. The door opened on command and the two stepped inside.

It may have seemed small on the outside, but on the inside was a whole 'nother story. Inside, was the secret lair known as the Book-Club.

In the Book Club, hundreds upon hundreds of great-sized books lay upon the many shelves that riddled the minds of many. The floor was of many purple puzzle pieces and on the far wall was the large red and blue computer nicknamed The Super Duper Computer. And right by that was the main table piece, a human-sized spool of thread and five small chairs: a dark blue director chair with a star, a stool with a yellow button for the seat, a purple throne with green jewels, a simple red spinny seat, and a dog bed surrounded the table.

Three of them were occupied, and those who sat there were Whyatt's greatest friends.

Red Riding Hood, or just Red, was laying back in her chair and barely kept it on the floor, flipping through some comic books that she brought along, her eyes dotting back and forth. She had fair skin with three freckles on her cheeks, big brown eyes, and sandy hair that was parted into two pigtails with a beautiful red beret on her head. Wearing a red parka with white lining, a red pleat skirt, along with matching shoes with built-in wheels, with all of this, you could see why her name would be Red Riding Hood.

Princess Pea rested easily as she flipped through every page with a smile, her eyes never leaving her book. Princess Pea had wavy black hair, light brown skin, and soft green eyes resembling the pits of a pea, just so beautiful to look at. She wore a soft lilac gown with small green patterns, along with a tiara and pearl necklace. Her parents, King Pea and Queen Pea from the "Princess and the Pea", were the current royal family ruling Storybrook Village.

Lastly, there was the youngest of the group, Pig, who was giggling softly as he flipped through a joke book he brought with him. He was what any pig normally looked like. Pink skin with two floppy ears on top of his head, along with a fairly sized snout and sky blue eyes. He wore a yellow t-shirt with baby blue overalls, light brown worker boots, and a small yellow baseball cap, heavily inspired by his father's construction clothes. He was young, but he sure did have a lot of creativity in his head.

And if you just happened to put two and two together, you'd find out that these four were in fact superheroes known as the Super Readers; reading superheroes that jumped into books to save the day, fighting bad guys, and resolving problems. And with a fifth member just joining a while ago, things seem to be getting back to normal.

"Hey, guys!" Whyatt walked over to them, smiling.

"Hi, Why!" Pig greeted, setting his book down, and waved to Whyatt. Red and Princess Pea copied, with Princess Pea giving a stern glance at Red. She quickly got the message and carefully put her chair back in place.

"Morning Whyatt, glad you could make it to our grand reading session!" Princess Pea stated, announcing the last words with plenty of enthusiasm.

"You were a little late though, what's up with that?" Red asked.

"Oh no," Whyatt dropped his book bag that he'd brought on the floor and kneeled beside it, "I just waited until my parents were awake to let me go here. Joy got sick a couple of days ago, so things have been a bit hectic there."

"Well, that's good," Princess Pea replied, "not about Joy, but that you could make it, you know?" Quickly reaffirming her last sentence, she gave an apprehensive smile back at him.

"Yeah, I know," Whyatt responded, shuffling through his bookbag.

"So, what kinds of books did you bring Whyatt?" Red asked curiously, rising out of her seat to get a better look at the young boy right across the table.

Whyatt pulled out one of his all-time favorite books to read, Jack in the Beanstalk. The cover illustrated Jack courageously climbing a large beanstalk, just below was a small shack above were the great white clouds where the Giant dwelled. He proudly showed it off as his smile mimicked his brother's.

"Ooh, nice choice!" Pig smiled gleefully, giving him a big thumbs up.

"Is that all you're going to read? Cause, I have some other books in my basket if you get bored." Red offered, pointing to her basket overloaded with all sorts of books.

"Thanks, Red, but I'm okay." Whyatt kindly declined. "I've read this book so many times that I don't mind re-reading it. Plus, who wouldn't want to read a book based on your older brother?"

"Fine by me," Red shrugged, scooting over for Whyatt to sit next to her and Princess Pea. Whyatt walked over and sat down, opened his book, and began to read.

Woofster, on the other hand, trotted over to Whyatt and sat beside him, chewing on a dog bone that he brought along in Whyatt's bag. Gnawing on the bone, he quickly went into his little world.

It had been a couple of hours since the group had started reading, and Woofster had gone from imagining chasing squirrels to paying more attention to the others in admiration.

All four looked so focused on dotting every word with their eyes, familiarizing themselves with the many storylines they were reading, that it reminded Woofster of the Super Readers' differences in a way. Each one of them was so distinct yet so alike at the same time that it made him wag his tail in delight.

Knowing that they became friends because of two things: reading and words, and that they were so willing to help one another to solve the numerous problems in the village and that they may have themselves. It made him smile and feel at ease that...

They're going to be together for a long time...

Hopefully...

Woofster shook his head and scrunched up his nose in annoyance at that thought. He closed his eyes and was about to sleep away from his problems until he heard movement above. His ears perked up and faced the cause of the commotion.

It was Whyatt who was speaking.

"Hey, guys? Could I ask you guys something?" Whyatt sheepishly looked up from his book, breaking the wall of silence.

"Sure, what is it?" Red responded, putting her book down.

"Uhm... so do you guys ever wonder about the Super Readers... or just us in general?" He asked, rubbing the back of his neck. The three of them looked at Whyatt, confused but also concerned if something was wrong. Woofster seemed surprised but decided to stay quiet and let the others talk it out.

"I have, but I've just put it off to the side most of the time. What makes you say that, Why?" Princess Pea questioned, giving a worried glance at him.

Whyatt sighed and looked around as he looked for the right words to form. This was unlike what he usually was, so they knew something was bothering him. Finally, after some time, he began to speak.

"Well, when we became Super Readers, I noticed a lot of strange things happening that I never noticed before. Don't you guys think it was a little bit odd: how all of it happened so fast? My book randomly brought out Super Letters, how it chose us to be Super Readers, the Big Bad Wolf suddenly messing with us, and what about my Super Duper Computer, the Why Fliers, the Book Club? They just came out of nowhere, and there was no explanation of why all that happened! So, I decided to find an answer to my question," He explained, his friends gaining interest in the boy's story.

"I first went every library in the area to at least find if any book had the same sparkly letters as this book when it opened to find any differences between them." He then grabbed the "Jack and the Beanstalk" book and gave everyone another gander at the cover.

"From my research, all the copies I could find were all the same... no sparkly letters," Whyatt stated sadly, settling the book down.

"So what else did you do?" Red asked.

Next, Whyatt brought out a sheet of paper scribbled with several tally marks that somewhat overlapped one another. Various other notes were on that paper but were unreadable.

"I then asked everyone in our village if anything unusual happened to them during the Big Bad Wolf's attack. But, for some reason, it was the same thing: confused or just how their day went. Yet no one seemed to say one word about any events I was talking about, even after I asked everyone almost three times!" Whyatt complained, crumpling up the sheet of paper in his hold, throwing it off onto the side in frustration.

Everyone jumped a bit at this reaction: usually, Whyatt was the calmest and most collected of the five, so seeing something like this was rather unusual.

Sighing, he looked at the ground in disappointment after his temper simmered down. "I tried everything I could but.. it never did work out..."

He rested a hand over one of his arms, tapping them in a rheumatic pattern. It looked like he was bored, but he was just frustrated at the thought.

"I just want an answer, is that so hard to ask for?" Whyatt huffed quietly and rested his head on his palms.

For a moment, no one did anything, then Princess Pea got up from her chair and went over to Whyatt, placing a hand on his shoulder in concern. Her expression was a mix of sympathy and distress, worried for one of her best friends struggling to resolve his unsolved problem. The others showed the same expression, even Woofster, who still stayed underneath the table.

This had to be the superest duperest Super Big Problem they've ever encountered!

"Oh Whyatt, that's terrible, just terrible," Princess Pea soothed, trying to sympathize with her friend.

"You're telling me, I spent so long trying to figure out what to do by myself that I just wound up back where I started!" Whyatt remarked. "Now what am I supposed to do?"

"Well," Red Riding Hood proudly stood up from her swivel chair, sending it to the ground with a clang. "You came to the right people to help you find an answer to your problem, Why." She proclaimed, crossing her arms with a giddy grin.

"And what do we do when we have a question?"

Whyatt rose his head up, suddenly relaxing what she was trying to convey. "We look.."

"In a book!" They all said simultaneously.

"But, which book should we look in?" Pig asked.

"Leave it to me, Pig," Princess Pea got up and went near one of the bookshelves, her wand in hand. Clearing her throat, she started to twirl around, chanting a familiar phrase.

"Peas and carrots, carrots and peas, book come out please, please, please!"

What was supposed to happen: streams of pink light elegantly flowing up to pull a book out of the shelves for them to jump into and to solve their problem, but for whatever reason, it never happened. There only came out a weak spark of light, sputtering out the dust of magic. Princess Pea quickly looked at her wand in confusion, what had happened? She'd done this at least a hundred times before and it had always worked, alas some surprises and mishaps, but nothing like this!

"What the...?" Princess Pea shook her head, tapping her wand. "O-Okay, let's try again.." She nervously said to herself and twirled around again, waving her wand.

"Peas and carrots, carrots and peas, book come out please, please... please...?"

Yet again, her wand flustered out some magic but nothing strong enough to lift a book out of the shelves.

"One.. more.. time.." She said to herself, starting to get frustrated. She hastily twirled around for a third time, wand-waving around.

"Peas and carrots, carrots and peas, book come out, oh pretty pretty please..!"

And yet...

Nothing.

Even with her begs, her wand had nothing this time around and she groaned in defeat.

"Oh split pea!" She yelled in frustration and the others immediately ran over to her.

"Hey, why isn't it working?" Red asked, glancing at her wand in confusion.

"I don't know. I-I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong! " Princess Pea replied, hiding her face away from the group in embarrassment. "The one time we need it the most, it just happens to fail!" Tears were developing but before the waterworks began, Whyatt put a hand on her shoulder.

"It's okay, Pea, really. Slip-ups happen... but it's odd that it happened, especially now."

As the four continued to ramble on about the princess' dilemma, overlapping over each other with any idea of Princess Pea's wand, Woofster snuck out from his spot, staring at the backs of his fellow teammates. Hearing Whyatt's weeks worth of frustration

What was going on? All but one knew and that laid in the hands-no... paws, of the group.

Woofster.

He knew the reason why her wand wasn't working, and it wasn't because it was broken. She is using it correctly as usual, yes, but not in the right area.

Woofster scanned the perimeter of the book club, seeming to be looking for something.

"Come on, come on, where is it, where is it?" Woofster asked himself, double-checking his surroundings.

He knew it was here, the place was just the same, wasn't it? "It may have changed, it always has new modifications after every generation," Woofster scoffed to himself, how could he be this forgetful?

He continued to scour the book club, ignoring his fellow teammates in the back.

"Maybe the book we're looking for isn't here! It was probably misplaced." Red lifted her arms in a guess. "That could be why the book isn't showing up."

"In the book club of all places, there's no way. Books are assigned to a given shelf with a code on their spine in alphabetical order, that's how librarians find books so easily." Whyatt explained to the brunette, her expression shifting curiously at the young boy's knowledge. "Every book there ever was is here so I don't see how it could be on another shelf. There are more shelves than all of our fingers and toes combined."

Whyatt explained, pointing up at the never-ending spiral of shelves filled with books. It made them all feel a bit uneasy, knowing there could be thousands more they haven't been into. For all they may know, they could be for upcoming problems that they may have to solve.

"Wait a minute, I only have 6?" Pig asked in confusion, staring at his fingers and wiggling them. Red chuckled at his sudden comment, shaking her head.

"I think Whyatt meant it figuratively, Pig," Princess Pea reassured her younger friend, staring at him first then at her wand second. "but, I agree with Whyatt. Wherever this book is, we're going to find it somehow, magic or no magic."

"But, how will we do that?" Red asked. "Your wand isn't working, and I don't think we can climb up to the top," She stated, pointing again at the ongoing ceiling. "I mean, we could try and make a staircase out of books, but it couldn't go on for that long, who knows how many stories there a-"

"We may already have a solution, Red." Princess Pea abruptly cut her short, pointing her wand over at the table, the books that they had brought along were still laid upon it. Many books were scattered on the ground while others were still untouched in the bags that some of them brought. "Maybe the book we're looking for was right underneath our noses all along. Come on!"

The group nodded collectively and raced over to the overcrowded table, grabbing as many books they could fit into their hold and beginning to read them. They began to toss one book after book, their eyes darting up, down, and all around, with a small pile of books being created for the four after some time.

Then, it caught him.

He nearly lost track when he saw it again but stood still once he was sure it was correct.

The logo that founded them: The Super Readers, had been placed on one of the hundreds upon hundreds of overly large books in the book club's shelves, blending in ever so easily amongst the rest. The only difference was the small, yet noticeable, punctuation mark on the book's spine. Woofster smiled, his tail wagging swiftly.

"There it is!" He ran over the large book, trying to reach and touch the symbol. He whined softly, lifting a paw and batting it on the thick spine of the book, no use.

"Darn, forgot how high up that is."

Woofster huffed and got up on his hind legs, gradually adjusting to standing upright, something he wasn't used to doing. Even with that, he was still a bit too short. A small grunt came from the dog, shakily setting himself back to standing up on four paws. His eyes did not lose focus on the symbol, staying put.

"Shoot, if only I was a foot taller!" Woofster laid down on his stomach, still not leaving his attention on the mark.

"But, what can I do? If only the others were- wait-of course, how could I have forgotten them!"

He finally brought his attention away from the book and shifted it towards his owner and his friends, who were now back at the table looking through their books at a seemingly quick pace, thoroughly looking at the pages and nose deep into their books.

Woofster was a bit surprised, this surely wasn't what he expected them to do in a situation like this, but that didn't matter at the moment.

Right now, he needed to get their attention.

Whyatt was in the moment of checking through some of Red's comic books when he heard the familiar sound of something, someone, barking.

He dropped the comics and turned to face the source of the noise. In his point of view, Woofster was barking quite loudly at seemingly nothing in a far corner of the book club, or at one of the large books aligned upon the wall. He began jumping to try and reach whatever he was barking at.

"Looks like he needs help," Whyatt thought to himself, picking himself from the ground. "Wonder what he's barking at though?"

"Hey, guys, I think Woofster found something!" Whyatt called out to his friends, their heads shooting up like prairie dogs in alert of a predator. Hurrying up to their feet and dropping the books they had, the others made their way over to the yapping dog. Red skated near Woofster, kneeling to his height.

"What is it, Woofster? What is it, boy?" She asked with Woofster barking in response and shifting his body to the book yet again. The group exchanged confused glances as Woofster whined softly.

"They can't understand me, of course." His eyes then caught the attention of Whyatt again but eyed down at his right palm, eyes widening at the sight.

"I… wonder..."

He trotted over to Whyatt and started to lick his dominant hand.

"Hey, that tickles, cut it out, boy!" He laughed and pulled his hand away from his dog's tongue, peering at now his slobbered palm, the slobber curving on his hand ad dripping. He groaned in disgust at the sight and he wiped his hand on his pants to at least deslobberize his hand. The others glanced with confusion once Whyatt turned back his attention at his friends.

"Why'd he do that, Why?" Red asked.

"It might've been the sandwiches I had this morning, must've left some crumbs on me by accident. Or, maybe it was the dog treats?" Whyatt looked down at the ground in thought, tapping his chin with his non-slobbered hand. Red sighed loudly in annoyance, gripping the bridge of her nose.

"Well, now we're back to square one again, just great," Red complained.

"Red, be nice to Woofster, he was only trying to help us out," Whyatt stated, walking over to Woofster and scratching behind his ear.

"I'm not mad at him, Why. I'm just really frustrated right now with this stupid problem, it's driving me crazy," Red explained, pulling her braids in frustration.

"It's driving all of us crazy Red, we understand how frustrated you are," Princess Pea said. "Now, let's try to look in those books again. I think we still need to check your comics, don't we?"

Red sighed. "Yeah, I guess we sh-"

"OH MY WORD! WHYATT! YOUR HAND!"

At the top of her lungs, Red shrieked, startling the whole group to their core. Pig and Pea held their ears while Whyatt and Woofster jumped by the sound of her scream and faced Red, her finger shakily pointing at Whyatt.

"What's wrong with my hand?" He asked in alarm and looked at his hands, gasping at the sight. On his dominant hand, a question mark symbol began to glow bright green. Whyatt began to desperately try and wipe it away with his opposite arm's sleeve, showing no avail as if it seemed to be engraved into his skin. The group's expressions seemed to deepen with worry.

"Whyatt, wh-what happened with your hand? Why is it glowing? What did Woofster do?" Princess Pea asked, concern in her voice as she began to back away from him.

"I don't know! I never saw this on my hand before!" Fear struck him as if things couldn't get any worse, his hand grew brighter by the second, a pitch enlightening from the light. The group began to panic for as all they knew, a laser could pop out of his hand at any moment if they didn't do something.

Red instantly took charge and desperately tried to find the reasoning behind all of this. Looking left and right, her eyes met touch with the book Woofster was barking at before. A smaller question mark began to glow just like Whyatt's hand.

"Over there, look!" Red exclaimed, pointing her finger at the book's spine that grabbed the group's attention. Whyatt faced where she was looking and locked eyes with the glowing question mark. Hesitantly, he slowly made his way over, clutching his hand, and rose onto his toes to reach the symbol.

The two question marks touched and the light grew even brighter, absorbing the group as they screamed and shielded their eyes.

The light soon faded away after a moment and the group reopened their eyes to see what they were facing. The book's spine split into half and slowly opened by itself to reveal a small door in between that was similar to the Book Club's. Whyatt stared intensely at the door and placed his hand yet again at another question mark symbol, which glowed green in response. He backed away once he heard creaking on the other side and the group huddled together to witness the door slowly open to reveal a pitch black entryway.

From what they could manage to see once their eyes adjusted to the darkness, the flooring pattern was different than the Book Club. It was a white and dark grey checker-patterned floor that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. The rest was too dark to tell.

The group stayed quiet for what seemed like forever, staring at the darkness.

That is until Red spoke up.

"Should… Should we.. go in there?" Red asked and gained some looks from her friends. All of the mix of "Are you crazy?" or just straight-up of fear.

"The first thing that came to your mind when all of that happened was if we could go in there and explore. Who knows what's in there?" Princess Pea scolded, pointing her finger at the pitch-black corridor. It made her instantly uneasy just glancing towards there.

"Hey, it was a suggestion, not an actual answer. I mean, what else are we supposed to do, ignore it, and pretend like this never happened?" Red answered back, hands on her hips. The two girls gave each other nasty looks until Pig got in between the two, hands facing both of them.

"Oh come on you two, please don't start arguing. It never gets anywhere, it'll only brings more arguing!" While Pig was trying to settle the girls down, Whyatt was busy looking at his palm.

The mark was gone but the distant moist feeling from when Woofster licked his hand was still there.

Strange, to think all of that happened from a simple lick from his… his… wait a second…

"Uh, guys, I don't mean to make any of you anymore worried than before… but has anybody seen Woofster?" A thick abundance of silence followed through. When he asked that question, his friends looked around the area for the spotted Golden Retriever.

"He was just here, wasn't he?" Princess Pea asked.

"Yeah, I saw him right by you, Whyatt. Unless he… oh no…" Red muttered. The four looked at the void of darkness right in front of them and could hear the faint pitter-patter of a dog running farther into the distance.

"He didn't…" Pig gasped.

"Woofster! Come back!" Whyatt shouted out to him, running into the darkness without a second thought and slowly fading from the other three's sight. Princess Pea and Pig both called out to Whyatt, to convince him to come back to them but they both stopped when they saw Red skate up to the door's frame.

"Oh, don't you go as well, Red! We can't lose three Super Readers that easily!" Princess Pea warned the brunette, who gave her one last look of concern.

"They both haven't got that far, we can still try and catch up with them if we're quick, I'm sure of it. Now, let's roll!" Red pumped a fist into the air and began to quickly speed into the dark, her wheels the only thing being heard. Pea sighed to herself, shaking her head.

"Well, I guess she does have a point. We better catch up with the rest of them, huh Pig?" Princess Pea glanced to her side only to find nobody there next to her.

"Pig?"

Her face shifted in shock and faced over to the door, witnessing Pig run into the darkness without looking back. Sighing in defeat, she nervously walked over to the door, letting out a grunt of disgust once she faced the floor.

So much dust and grime were left on the floor that she could manage to see the prints of her friends scattered across the grimy hallway. Princess Pea lifted her dress by the tips to avoid the dirt below from staining the lilac fabric.

"Oh, hopefully, they're okay in there…" Princess Pea gave one last look at the Book Club and wandered into the darkness, increasing her speed once she got far enough from the entrance.

She was a quarter in the hallway with the light becoming more and more distant for her to see when her ears picked up the sound of creaking. She quickly looked behind and saw the light disappearing behind her, setting herself in total darkness.

This could not end well...

Author's Note: Hey everyone, I'm hoping you enjoyed this chapter. It was a blast to write. Seems like our Super Readers got into one sticky situation after they found a secret entrance in the Book Club. What'll happen next, who knows? That will be in the next chapter SW: The Lost Pages! Also, thanks to sputterput on Wattpad for helping me out with the beginning and re-reading my work. I greatly appreciate the help! Don't be shy to comment and like my story, or even give me advice! I'd love it.
