Silent Afflictions
A Surprise for the Silence
Dragging her bag of dirty clothes in through the front door, Rose headed to her room, intending on dumping the bag in favour of making a cuppa. However, she was saved from her procrastination by John calling out, "I'll put the kettle on."
"I was going to do it…" She said, frowning slightly; she always made the drinks.
"It's no bother." John replied, grinning over the stair rail. "I think I'll be making my own drinks for a while anyway."
Chuckling at his paranoia - even though it was completely justified - she left the men to their business and decided she may as well unpack now. Lugging her bag into her room, she heaved it onto her bed, unzipping it as she started to sort through the contents.
It wasn't five minutes later though that a knock came from her bedroom door. Standing straight, she frowned into the draw she was working on. She'd decided that her clothes could be a little more organised and so was currently taking everything out, draws included, so that she could sort it and put it all away. "Come in, John." Sherlock wouldn't knock and no one else would come down to her room.
John opened the door, looking around at the chaos he seemed to be interrupting. "Seems messier than I remember it…" He told her, the room was messier than the shared living room, which really was saying something. Compared to his military standard room, the small space was a little disturbing to the doctor.
Rose just turned to him, eyebrow raised as she pushed the draw back into its frame. "And when was the last time you were in my bedroom?" Winking for effect, she could only hold the straight face for so long as John blushed - hearing the implications clearly and not knowing what to say to them - trying to stutter out some sort of reply. Laughing at his expression, she put him out of his misery. "I'm kidding, John. Relax."
"Well, I'm glad you're happy at least." He said, looking to the floor in slight embarrassment at the young woman's antics. It was true though; following their last case, he had been glad that the trip home had been a lot less awkward between his friends, though he was still planning to keep an eye on her for any fallout following their experiences in the hollow.
Rose just chuckled at her flustered friend before getting to what he wanted. "What's up?"
"You've got visitors." He told her, wondering how she was going to take it; he didn't think it would go over well somehow.
Me? She thought, catching his words. "Clients?"
"No…" John said, frowning again, before looking up to her. "Your parents."
Her mind blanked at this, smile dropping instantly. They can't be here, she thought, hoping it was all a bad joke. "What…?"
