Hey!! I got this idea recently of how Toga cane to have compassion for humans. This is the shortest chapter I've written for the story, I am a chapter ahead. There isn't a lot of character development because I was still feeling out the characters this chapter so bear with me.

TW Drug abuse and suicide in future chapters.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha or any characters from the series/material.

Chapter

Sprinting past the endless trees as a large centipede monster gave chase, Ryan began to think that maybe, just maybe, she had gone a bit too far. At first, it looked like Ryan had simply ended up in a dense forest, or maybe a large park? It didn't seem like there was a living soul around for a few miles. The buzzing of an annoying insect and the chirping of birds brought an odd comfort. She couldn't be that far from where they were staying. Giving up she began her journey back to where she landed. It was fun, exploring this vast forest that she hoped was a park. The fun stopped when a large creature, that bore some resemblance to the human experiment from the dutch horror movie she watched just last week, sprang from the ground. As strong as her legs were and as fast as she was, it was clear that the monster was going to have a nice meal in a few moments. And of course she had to trip on a branch, fucking classic. She was faced with the centipede creature whose wide mouth was coming down to greet her.

Ryan closed her eyes, awaiting death, when in a flash, the sunlight in her face dimmed and the centipede creature cried out in pain. Creeping one eye open, she saw the centipede thing was now a few feet back, screeching and holding the stump where it's arm used to be. Her view of it was nearly blocked out by a man, his back to her, with a blood stained sword. From the look of the centipede, this man was someone to fear. It quickly ran away from her line of view. The man before her flicked his sword, some of the blood coming off of it and staining her. Getting a better look at him she took notice of his white hair and pointed ears. Seriously where the hell did she land? He starred in the direction that it ran off to before giving out a satisfied hum and sheathing his sword. She got back up, dusting off her clothes and looking up at the tall man. He in turn, gave her a short glance and began walking away. It took her a moment before she processed everything that happened, as soon as she did, she followed after him.

"Hey!... Hey mister!" The man stopped in his tracks and looked back, waiting for her to catch up. When she did, she rested her hands on her knees, panting and sweating.

"What the hell was that?" She was met with his stare and silence.

"It was a yokai, an Omukade to be exact." His words only gave her more questions, but she decided against voicing them. The silence on her behalf had him walking again, believing the conversation to be over, only to hear her speed walking to match his pace.

"By any chance, do you know where I am?" The girl continued to pant.

"Clearly somewhere you shouldn't be. I suggest you go back to your village." Toga did not slow down.

"But I don't have a village, all I know is that my family was visiting Japan and I've lost sight of them." He couldn't tell whether the fast beating of the girl's heart was due to lying or because she was exhausted.

"Then go find someone that can help you." He said with a sharp tone. "Well...can you help me?"

"What makes you think I'll do that?" Toga holds back a scoff.

"Well you did save me from that giant yokai-"

"I've never been a friend to them, saving you wasn't personal." He was speeding up his walking.

"Can you at least help me retrace my steps?" The girl sounded a little desperate, and well, what type of person, demon or not, would leave a lost child.

"Fine." He gave in with a sigh.

"Thank you. For saving me and for helping me get back." Her worried frown turned into a hopeful smile.

"Hm." His face remained as blank as when he had first appeared.

Both walked back to where he had saved her, from then on Ryan had to figure out which direction she had come from.

"Hmm. We were definitely more north, but was it more east or west?" How had she survived this long?

Her, rather slow, thinking was interrupted by the soft sniffing coming from the man. His nose twitching before he began walking in the direction where his nose led him. Ryan stayed by his side.

"What are yo-can you smell the path I took?" Humans.

"Yes, your scent should lead us where you started."

"Huh, are you a yokai?" It was kinda obvious the more the girl thought about it. "Where did you say you were from?" She was certainly dressed strangely. "Not here that's for sure."

"Hm." The rest of the walk was silent, a rather uncomfortable one for Ryan. Her scent led them to a clearing.

"It stops here."

"Right. This is where we were eating." Not the truth but not a lie either.

"There's no other scent, are you sure your family was with you?"

"Yes. I'm sure. Unless... shit." He raised an eyebrow. Her face scrunched in frustration before turning to look at him up and down. With her hands on her face she squatted down and exhaled.

"So you're not a cosplayer like I thought you were." He tilted his head in confusion.

"I should've known, I mean at first, I thought you were just this crazy strong dude that happened to be cosplaying some anime character. But I would be mistaken right?"

"I'm not sure what any of that means." Still no emotion in his words.

"Cool. Right. And I don't have that remote to take me back. This is getting better."

She sat down completely, legs crossed with her hands holding her face. Giving out another sigh in exhaustion.

"Can I at least know your name?"

"Toga."

"Nice to meet you Toga, I'm Rya-Oh you're walking away now...I see...Hey, wait up!"

Before she could say anything else, the sound of thunder stopped all thoughts. She hadn't noticed that in the time of their interactions the sky had clouded over, promising rain. Once again Toga began to walk away, only for Ryan to start trailing after him. Toga found shelter in a cave not too far off from where they started right as it began to rain. Toga stares out into the rain, his back against the wall of the cave. The sound and smell of the rain gave a peace like no other. At least it would if he couldn't feel Ryan staring at him since the second they entered the cave.

"So...So what...what type of yokai are you?" His eyes never moved from the rain. "I am an Inu Daiyokai."

An Inu Daiyokai? She thought, so a dog demon? My japanese is a little rusty, good thing he hasn't noticed yet. She spoke too soon.

"You don't belong here."

"Oh, I'm sorry, if you want me to lea-"

"No, you just don't belong here, you smell...different, it's not that you're a foreigner, you smell like you don't belong in this world."

"It's not my business," he continues, "where you are from or where you belong, so long as your intentions are not harmful to the people of this land, human or demon alike, I won't bring harm to you, little human."Toga finished, his eyes finally turned to her for a moment, before slowly focusing back on the rain. Little!? I'm 12, thought Ryan. After that, both stayed silent, listening to the rain and thunder. The smell of the rain relaxed them both, almost like he hadn't just given a warning to Ryan. The silence lasted around 10 minutes when Toga noticed that the heartbeat of the girl was slowing down. He watched her by the side of his eye, but she was just sitting there looking out into the rain, like he had, only it was different. It was like she wasn't there in front of him, her eyes looked empty behind a wall of brightness, he rarely saw humans with her eye color, maybe one or two foreigners. A voice brought them both back to reality. It was faint, so faint that a human shouldn't have heard it, which raised some of his suspicions against the girl.

"Oh shit." It was clear that she was frightened.

"Oh my god, look!" Toga took a step out of the cave, Ryan stood behind him. He couldn't smell or hear anything and turned back to her, only to be met by a powder being blown into his face. Just like that, lights out.

Golden eyes opened steadily, second passed before he remembered the previous events. Toga shot up from his spot in the cave, the girl's scent lingered, but the person did not. The only physical evidence left of the girl was a strange garment draped over him. It looked like a kimono, but the fabric was different, smooth, like it was artificially made. It was a bright color, a mixture between pink and red. The kimono was baggy but small, small enough for the girl. There was nothing to tie it together but two rows of hard material on the edges of the kimono, with small teeth running along them. At the bottom of one of those rows there was a small device with a handle. He curiously pulled it up and it made a fast zip noise. Taking it in his hand he got up. Looking around the area, he stood there alone outside of the cave.

What a strange girl
