Evangelion: End War
Chapter 1: Happy Holidays
INTERCEPT CITY, KIRBY RESIDENCE
"Good party, Maya," Misato said as she took another drink of beer.
"Thanks, but it isn't my party," Maya said, "Is the Commander here?" she asked.
Misato nodded and pointed off to the corner of the room. Maya followed her finger to see the Commander, standing with his hands in his pockets off in the corner. Quite frankly, Maya wasn't sure he'd be able to make it out of his hole long enough to come to the party.
The Commander seemed to be watching something across the room, and Maya tracked his gaze to where her son, Braxton, was making out with a girl his age. She wasn't really concerned, after all that wasn't her area of expertise. His father would be the one concerned about those affairs. They'd agreed early on that she wasn't to get involved with Braxton's emotional growth.
"Braxton!" she shouted. He looked up with a questioning look on his face. "Where's your father?" she asked.
Braxton jerked a thumb up the stairs, indicating he was up in his office most likely. She nodded and headed for the stairs while Braxton went back to his previous activity. She took a right turn at the top of the stairs and arrived at his office door.
She turned the knob and entered. Simon Kirby sat at his desk, hands clasped in front of his face, staring at her. Chances were, he'd been staring at the door itself long before she entered the room. The radio next to him was going through the final movement of Eclipse, probably to aid in his meditative state. Behind him, a poster of his Wolf Evangelion, Greymarch, sat as if to stare down those who entered the small room.
"Simon, I've got the new reports," she said and sat the papers she'd been carrying on his desk.
"Thank you, Doctor," he replied with no hint of love in his voice. Maya had to contain slapping him as she turned and exited his office.
Ever since their divorce five years ago, Simon had completely ignored her outside of work related activities. This had also changed Braxton due to the fact that he lived with his father and rarely made any attempt to talk to his mother if he didn't have to. Maya thought this through for the millionth time as she shut the door behind her and walked back down the stairs to the party.
On her way down, she passed Rei Ayanami, who was heading up the stairs with two glasses and a bottle of wine in her hands. Maya didn't say anything, but rather favored the blue haired clone with an icy glare, which Rei was only happy to return. Maya got to the bottom of the stairs and turned just in time to see Rei disappear through Simon's office door.
MIT CAMPUS
"What?" Sean asked, nearly unbelieving in what he'd just heard come out of the teenage girl's mouth.
"Yeah, the letter came in the mail today. It was from my father," Mirai said as she held the letter out to him. Sean had taken care of this girl since she was three years old up until now at her current age of fourteen.
To think that he might now be alone in this houseā¦it hurt his head to think about it. Sean was about ready to skim the letter when he saw that it was hardly long enough to warrant being written on a post-it note.
Mirai,
I look forward to meeting you. If you'd like, you can fly out to Intercept on a flight Thursday morning; all expenses paid for by NERV. Please come.
Your Father.
Sean almost gagged at the simplicity of the letter.
"Should I go?" she asked. Not 'can I go' since Sean had raised her to make her own decisions, not let other people make them for her.
"Should you? No. Do you need to? Yes," he replied, knowing full well that she'd always wanted to meet her father. She seemed to consider this a moment before saying anything else.
"Can you drive me to the airport Thursday?" she asked. Sean nodded affirmative, hoping that he wouldn't regret it.
KENYA, TWO DAYS LATER
After the end of the Harvester war, the split up of SEELE caused a hundred different nations to begin building a new, cheaper version of Evangelion. The Class C Mass Production Evangelions stood a head shorter than Wolfs and used diesel engines for power. The first nation to feel bold enough to use their new weapons was Kenya, on their neighbor country of Uganda. The United States, of course, got pissed at Kenya for invading Uganda with their squad of Class C Evas and decided to launch both of their Wolf Evas to take care of the problem.
Currently, Cerebrus was making a pass over Kenya's capital city, noting just where the five CC Evas were located. Braxton dropped an electronic marker on each and uploaded them to the team intelligence network interface. Greymarch immediately stopped flapping its wings and dropped to the ground in front of one CC.
Simon used his AT Field to push the target backward onto its ass before grabbing its head with both hands. He pushed his right foot to the Kenyan Eva's chest and used the leverage to pull its head clean off. Blood and heavy amounts of purple machine oil sprayed into the air, made a graceful arch, and spattered all over its owner's armor.
Braxton gunned his jets and swept by a Kenyan Eva, making it look after him and allowing Simon to sneak up and slice its neck open with his prog knife. Cerebrus turned in a high helix, dodging the remaining hostiles' gunfire, and took aim at one of them with its Wolf Rifle. Braxton carpeted the area with half a clip of heavy ammunition that pulped the target into a very bloody form of macaroni.
"Two more," he mused, his calm voice betraying that his heart felt like exploding in his rib cage.
"Correction," Simon said, pulling his knife out of another target's core, "One more."
The final enemy Eva jumped around a corner down the street from Greymarch and took aim with its knock-off version of the Pallet rifle. Simon formed some of his AT Field energy into a ball and hurled it at the CC. The AT Ball hit the target in the chest and blew its cheap chest armor off, revealing the skin beneath.
Then Cerebrus landed in front of it and tore its upper torso in half with a stream of Wolf Rifle fire. The corpse hit the ground with a wet smack. "Done," Braxton said.
"Yep," Simon replied. Both of the Wolfs launched into the sky via different types of transportation and headed home to Nevada as fast as possible.
To Be Continued
Author's Note: This is a sequel to my very well liked story A State of Mercy, or ASOM. I haven't written for a while, and I'm all grown up now, but I'm so happy to keep going.
This story is dedicated to my Grandma. Rest in peace.
