Natasha POV
Clint, Tony, and I were called into a meeting, something about an assassin.
We were looking at a hologram of a woman in a red suit and black hood. She had caramel brown eyes, pale skin, and light pink lips.
"This is the assassin known as the Red Squirrel. She needs to be taken out as she is a problem I no longer want to deal with. She specializes in knife throwing and has extensive weapons training. There is a pattern where she will only execute men with a record of child abuse. We think her next target will be Jack Bentley, a man in his late 50's on house arrest. Your mission is to save the target and take out the assassin by any means necessary" Nick Fury finished.
"Eyepatch, how come the girl needs to be taken out? She surely can't be much of a threat if her code name is Red Squirrel" Tony says beside me popping a blueberry in his mouth.
Fury rolls his eyes, "Her code name is Red Squirrel because she is extremely fast and can kill her targets within the span of seconds."
Clint's eyes widen in surprise.
"Surely she can't be that fast sir, you must be mistaken?" Clint questions.
"No."
The room stays silent for a few seconds before Fury says, "Suit up in 30, and be prepared to leave."
As soon as Fury leaves, Tony whines, "How come Eyepatch wants me on this mission?"
"As backup I presume, if she really is that dangerous" I say.
"Well let's suit up."
40 minutes later, Anastasia(Ana) POV
I was just outside Jack's house, picking the lock when I saw an arrow appointed at me from the corner of my eye. I slowly backed up off the porch when I came face to face with the infamous "Hawkeye." I quickly lunged toward him and initiated the fight. I punched a blow to his face before he swung me off his body. This gave me the advantage as I kicked his legs and he slammed to the floor. We both got up and continued fighting.
The fight lasted minutes before I finally had him in a headlock. I thought about finishing the job before quickly dismissing the idea. I didn't want to kill a friend of my sister's.
We were in this position for what seemed like forever where all you could hear was labored breath before a look of confusion passed Clint's face as he spoke up, "Are you going to do something?"
"I have no need to. Where is Natasha Romanoff?" I asked using her new name as to not reveal who I am. My russian twinge would have given me off, had I not perfected my American accent after 5 years.
"What makes me think I'm going to tell you?"
"Well you see I kinda have the upper hand here if you couldn't tell" I said, sarcasm slipping into my tone.
He laughed strained as he said, "You remind me of someone I know."
Natalia, then I thought. "Will you tell me where Natasha is or do you want me finding out by myself?"
A voice sounded from his comms, "I'll talk to her, Clint."
"Are you sure Nat?" He asked worried, letting it slip to me who was on the receiving end.
"Yes."
A woman I barely recognized anymore stepped from around the corner with fiery red hair and a S.H.I.E.L.D. suit on. She stepped towards me with a gun in her hand and said, "Let him go, and we'll talk."
I nodded my head and let him go. He quickly got up and stood next to Nat with a weary glance in my direction.
"What do you want?" She asks with hate burning in her eyes.
I take off my hood as she gasps in shock. It stays eerily quiet before I speak, "Why did you leave me?"
"You were dead when I left, how are you alive?" She says, disbelief crossing her features.
"That doesn't matter right now. How could you join S.H.I.E.L.D.?" I bite back with betrayal in my tone.
"I wanted to save lives, why are you ruining yours?"
"I changed when you left sestra , I'm not the same as the 12 year old girl you left in a burning building."
Clint silently gapes, realizing the seriousness of the conversation as he ducks away.
"Why are you taking vengeance on all these people?" Nat asks, her tough facade slipping away.
"I was doing it so what happened to us won't ever happen again! Why don't you understand? You are doing the same as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent are you not?" I ask, venom laced in my tone.
"We don't kill for revenge Ana, we kill for the safety of the world. What has happened to you?"
"Life happened Nat. I've learned a lot the past few years living on the streets after I fled from Russia. I do what I think is right."
"You know you have to pay for your crimes, Ana."
I thought this was going to happen when I found her, but I was still holding onto hope that she would understand. I turn around and gain my composure before facing Nat with my hands above my head, anticipating I had been ordered to be killed.
"Fine, just get it over with. I really thought you would be the one to understand me Nat."
"I'm not going to kill you Ana, but you have a choice. You can either take a trial run in S.H.I.E.L.D, or get put in jail. Indefinitely. "
I quickly answer, with no hesitation, "Jail."
"What do you have against S.H.I.E.L.D? It isn't as bad as it seems Ana." Nat asks in confusion, wondering why I would choose to condemn myself to jail.
"You want to know what I have against S.H.I.E.L.D.?! S.H.I.E.L.D. ruined my life!" I shout.
"When I arrived in America, I managed to find this little flat, and everything was good. I had a neighbor, a woman in her 50's with 3 kids: 2 teens and a toddler. I occasionally helped her babysit her kids and helped keep her abusive husband off her track. Before I know it, her husband comes in at night and right behind him, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. In mere seconds, The agent killed the husband, the wife, and the kids. I was in shock, could barely move from under the guest bed across the house. I chased after the murderer and you know what he said?" I ask venom laced in my tone. "The kids were collateral damage, it's not my fault they wouldn't leave their parents. I was just executing my mission." I thought moving to America would be better than Russia, but I realized there are just as many monsters here as there were there."
Nat looks at me, tears dotting her eyes before she speaks, "I didn't know that Ana."
The dark ally is quiet before Nat takes a deep breath and speaks again, "Are you sure about your decision?"
I nod my head before running up and hugging Nat, "It was nice to see you again. I wish we could've caught up."
She reluctantly returns the hug and says, "Me too Ana."
As we back up, she waves and Clint comes out from the shadows.
"Soo.. are you coming in?"
I shake my head before he speaks, "It was nice knowing that there is another person like Tasha out there." My eyebrow's shoot up in surprise that he has a nickname for her as I turn to her. In our childhood, Nat was a very closed off person. I guess S.H.I.E.L.D. must have been good for her if she lets people close to her now.
I enter the Quinjet and am surprised by the appearance of none other than Iron Man.
"Ooo, another hot red head! Is this your long lost sister Romanoff?"
She turns to him and rolls her eyes as I flip him off.
"Feisty! I like her so far. Just try not to mutilate me please."
I ignore him the rest of the trip before I'm asked my final decision once again. I actually decide to think about it and come to a final decision
"My choice is..."
