Hey!

Thanks for clicking on this! I know I've already said this is a sequel in the description but just in case you didn't read it, this is a sequel to The Girl Named Charlie. I don't think you need to read The Girl Named Charlie to read this but it would probably help you understand Charlie's character a little more. It's up to you though.

I hope you enjoy the sequel!

Hailey's POV

It had been three months since I had last seen Charlie. Almost three months anyways.

I hadn't heard from her since but I did get a call from Caroline in August and she told me that Charlie was doing well which was nice to hear.

That was the last time I heard anything about Charlie but I hadn't forgotten about the spunky teen.

She wasn't that forgettable of a person.

"Our suspect is Tim Harris," Burgess smacked a picture of him onto he case board, "Thalia said she saw Maddie with him multiple times before she overdosed on meth and my CI told me that Harris is known for selling meth around the neighbourhood."

"Why isn't he in jail then?" Rojas asked.

Burgess shrugged, "Probably never caught him in the act and didn't have enough evidence."

"But we can't charge Harris on Thalia's death because she's not a minor and she was the one who took the drugs," I pointed out and everyone nodded.

Jay leaned back in his chair, "But we can charge him with drug distribution or possession of drugs."

Voight nodded, "Let's do it then. Burgess, get in touch with your CI. We'll send Halstead undercover as a potential buyer and go from there."

He looked around at all of us who looked at each other before nodding.

"Sounds like a plan," Ruzek said.

A few days later, we had a plan set up. Burgess' CI Kyle had managed to convince Harris to meet his "friend" who was actually Jay. Hopefully, if things went well, Harris ends up trusting Jay and when he sells to him, we move in and scoop him up.

Though that was much easier said than done.

"What's the safe word?" Ruzek asked Jay as he helped him get the wire on.

"Blueberry," Jay replied and we all nodded to show we had heard.

We all got into our cars and started driving to the meetup spot which was a little cafe that apparently sold terrible coffee and decent donuts, according to Kyle anyways. When we got there, Ruzek and Burgess took the back while Voight and Rojas parked in the front on the street. Atwater and I would go in and sit a little bit away so that we could have eyes on them from the inside.

As soon as we walked in, I spotted Jay sitting at an empty table with Kyle while they waited for Harris to come in. Atwater and I walked away from them and towards the cashier.

"Do you want anything to drink?" Atwater asked me. I looked at the pastries they had on display and to be honest, none of them looked too appealing but I decided to order something anyway.

"Could I have a chocolate glazed donut?" I asked the barista at the cashier. She nodded and typed some stuff into the cashier and then asked Atwater what he wanted and he replied with a coffee and a muffin.

While the barista got our order, I leaned against the counter, trying to be casual. Once we got our coffee and pastries, we thanked the barista and headed to a table not too far from Jay and Kyle's but far enough so it wouldn't seem suspicious.

"How's the donut?" Atwater asked me and I laughed before taking a bite.

I made sure I swallowed before talking, "It's fine. How's the coffee?"

"Fine," Atwater replied and then lowered his voice, "It's terrible."

I laughed but immediately stopped when I saw that Harris had walked into the cafe. Atwater must have picked up on my sudden mood change because he nodded to show me that he knew Harris was here now.

From the corner of my eye, I watched as Kyle waved Harris over who took a seat. As I took another bite of my donut, I strained my ears as I tried to hear what was going on.

"So this is the friend you wanted me to meet," Harris said and Kyle nodded.

"This is Ryan," Kyle introduced Jay who nodded at Harris politely.

As they started talking, Atwater and I kept trying to be casual by making some small talk and eating what we had ordered. I had said that the donut was fine but now after a few bites, I was starting to take back what I had said.

It wasn't that great.

Atwater offered to share some of his muffin with me but if that muffin was anything like my donut, I didn't want anything to do with it so I politely declined.

The conversation was normal from what I could hear. They started talking, Harris asked the same questions that dealers usually asked whoever went undercover as a buyer, and after a while, Jay managed to get Harris to agree to a deal.

They talked some more before Harris announced he had to go and once he left, Jay and Kyle followed after a little afterwards.

Atwater crammed the last of his muffin into his mouth and finished off his coffee before we thanked the barista and left, getting into our separate cars.

"Was the coffee as bad as Kyle said?" Jay asked as we started driving back to the district.

I laughed, "Atwater said it was terrible, but I wouldn't consider that donut decent."

"Are they better than decent?"

"No, they're worse."

"Saturday at noon behind the old factory on Ashburn," Jay relayed the information to us.

"Well, until then, you better have a story down pat," Voight told Jay who nodded.

Voight looked at all of us, "The plan is on Saturday when Halstead goes to pick up the drugs, we have all exits covered in case Harris tries to run. As soon as the drugs change hands, we move in and get Harris. Is that clear?"

Everybody nodded and Voight gave us all one last look before heading into his office, leaving us to sit in silence.

"How old was Maddie when she overdosed?" Rojas asked, looking at the picture of Maddie taped on the case board.

Burgess sighed, "Twenty."

"Had a lot of life in front of her," Ruzek commented and we all nodded in agreement. I looked at the picture as well. Maddie was smiling wide, her curly hair was tied back.

"I can't imagine what the parents are going through," Jay shook his head, "I spoke to them and they told me she was a good kid. They said it was like a light went on when she walked into a room. She always got good grades, was going to North Park University, just got mixed up with the wrong people."

For some reason, when Jay said this, I started thinking of Charlie. It was still the time of the day where her school should still be in session so that was probably where she was right now. I remembered how when I first met her, she told me that the counsellors at her previous school in Winnipeg said that she should be a lawyer or a doctor because she got good grades. I remembered how she said she wanted to enlist instead and now, it made sense to me why.

I wondered if she liked Chicago any better than she did when she first arrived. I had a feeling that probably wasn't the case but you never know.

There wasn't much we could do until Saturday so most of us ended up finishing paperwork while others sat around and goofed off, namely Ruzek. I was doing paperwork when I got a phone call and I checked the caller ID, surprised to see Caroline's name flashing on the screen of my phone. Confused, I picked up.

"Hello?"

"I'm so sorry, I know you're probably at work but I wasn't sure what else I to do," Caroline was talking fast and she sounded worried, "Micheal already called some other people but I had to do something."

I tried to make sense of what Caroline was saying, "Hold on, you have to slow down. What's going on?"

I was starting to draw attention to myself and I looked up to see everyone staring at me.

It sounded like Caroline was crying on the other end and I started becoming more concerned.

"Caroline, what's going on?" I repeated my question and Caroline had to choke out her reply between her sobs.

"Charlie's missing."
