"That's none of your business." Bella hissed at Jacob
"The hell it-" Jacob roared back
His body began to shake, his mind stopped forming coherent sentences. The ground under us began to shake like an earthquake, Jacob being the epicentre.
Bella cringed, and I was happy that him exploding into a wolf seemed to make her uncomfortable. But she was still in front of me, directly in the pathway between the gigantic werewolf running towards me.
I would have just picked her up and moved her behind me, but I was terrified she would get hurt in the process. The last time I tried to knock her out of the way of an attacker she had to get stitches.
So I leaped over her, leaving her in place. I wanted to throw the dog away from her, but I owed him my life. I couldn't hurt him, no matter how much I wanted to.
I angled my body to the side so our momentum wouldn't force us to collide with Bella. I would let him throw me to the side of the forest, and when Bella was at a safe distance I would gently pull him off of me.
Jacob knocked me to the ground, 53 yards from Bella. He was stronger than I expected, but he wasn't a match for me, no matter how much he wanted to disagree. I carefully pushed him away from me, letting his weight be fully supported by my arms.
Urg. How is the bloodsucker so strong?
He snarled. I could hear Bella scream as her eyes located us. Charlie was outside the house, the concern beneath his anger coming through his thoughts. I could hear him running towards Bella's cries.
He couldn't see me like this. I wanted to roll my eyes as I lowered Jacob back onto me. I didn't know how I was going to explain how I had been attacked by a huge wolf and only my shirt was torn. Hopefully Alice would help me fabricate a story.
Jacob's teeth sunk into my neck, and I was shocked by the pain. I screamed as I shoved the dog away from me. He was thrown into a tree, and I could hear the snaps of his bones. Concern washed over me.
But then I felt it. The warm blood seeped into me as if it was poisoning my venom. It physically hurt more than anything I had felt in this life thus far.
Bella had reached me now, tears flowing down her cheek. I wanted to tell her she didn't need to cry. I was going to be fine.
But the dog approached us again, coming closer to Bella than I was comfortable with.
"That's… a… Wolf" Charlie whispered, his thoughts mangled with worry.
You're lucky Jacob screamed in his head
"Bella!" Charlie called, his voice shaking, "Bella!"
"Dad, I'm fine. Call Carlisle" Her voice was breaking.
"Why-" Charlie gasped, "Bella, we need to call an ambulance. He needs to go to the hospital…" I could hear him push buttons in his phone
"No!" Bella's voice demanded, "He… doesn't like hospitals"
"Bells, he needs one. Those wolves have killed people. Many people"
She stroked my hair and I moaned in pain. The heat was somehow going deeper inside of me, my muscles shook in response.
Carlisle was working today. He would be at the hospital. But I knew the EMT's, and they would examine me closer than they would an average patient. They cared about all their patients, but it was different when your patient was the son of one of the doctors.
How was I going to get out of this?
But I could barely think straight, cause the pain was smothering me. I screamed and Bella rubbed my face, attempting to calm me down. Why was this hurting so much?
We would have to move immediately. I was heavier than I would be if I were human. They wouldn't be able to find my pulse. My temperature would be too low. Carlisle would have to sneak me out, and we would never be able to return.
Edward, A familiar internal voice called. It was Emmett, and he had the others with him. Alice must have seen this.
But the ambulance was already there. Bret was standing over me, holding a piece of gauze over my neck wound.
It looks like the wolf got his artery, his thoughts were layered with concern, I don't know if it can be repaired. Poor Carlisle, poor Esme…
"Edward!" Alice screamed from a distance. She ran up towards me and leaned over the cot. Bret and another EMT lifted me up with ease, and I was relieved Alice seemed to be holding most of my weight.
"I'm coming to the hospital with you." Alice said with urgency, "Bella, Charlie, meet me their"
I'm seeing strange things Edward She thought as she stroked my arm, Really strange things. You need to breathe. Carlisle and I will figure this out
Her visions of me were upsured. I barely looked like myself. My face wasn't as symmetrical, my skin was a much darker tone. My features looked uneven, and my face looked like someone shook a paintbrush that was full of brown paint overtop of me. They were freckles, I realized. My eyes were a strange tone of green.
That couldn't be me. I barely showed any similarities to him. But Alice was convinced it was me.
Bret stabbed me with a needle, and to my surprise it went in.
"Found his pulse. It's extremely weak" the other EMT said
"What?" Alice gasped, "Found his what?"
"His pulse" He clarified, seeming confused of Alice's question
Oh My God, Alice's thoughts began to string together, The bite. It's changing you back.
