I own none of the following characters except for my original characters and their backgrounds.

The train slid to a smooth stop. Commuters boarded the train, several people knocking elbows and hips as they made their way inside.

Such a rush. Her gaze wandered across the sea of people before her as she huddled back in her seat. This was perhaps the first time she was in such a small space packed with so many people.

She smoothed out the fabric of her black pencil skirt, thin heels dragging back as many commuters shifted in front of her. Hands folding in her lap, she blinked as the train surged ahead once more, sending a few passengers stumbling.

Between the new faces struggling in keeping their sudden momentum, a woman popped up in her view. Blue and green flickered as she watched how the woman was squeezed between passengers, standing out with an arm curled protectively over her swollen belly while she desperately tried to keep her bulky luggage and purse close. Huh.

Any other day she wouldn't have paid any mind to this. Pregnant women decided on their own to be in this state. They didn't owe anyone anything— Mismatched eyes glanced back at the woman who sighed, arm still wrapped around her heavy stomach.

"Another one on it's way too…" A masculine voice murmured in her mind, making her grimace as she unfurled her hands and spoke up loudly.

"Excuse me, mam."

The woman lifted her head, staring owlishly as she was offered a friendly smile then gestured towards the occupied seat. "You can sit here if you like."

The woman's brown eyes widened in realization before a bright smile tugged her lips and she stumbled forward with swollen ankles once the other got up. "Ah!"

After the woman had sat down, her eyes flicked towards the name tag pinned to the younger woman's breast pocket. "Thank you very much, Narumi-chan."

Narumi arched a brow on being addressed so familiarly. But she grinned faintly, reaching up and clasping onto the dangling handles for support. "You're welcome, mam."

"Is-Is there," the woman's gaze wandered towards her empty hands. "Anything I can carry for you in my lap?"

"You're already carrying enough," Narumi joked kindly, gesturing towards the baby bump.

The woman gave a soft smile, curling an arm around her round stomach. "Ah, yes. Motherhood is beautiful." She grimaced. "And painful as well."

Narumi laughed gently as the woman beamed up at her. It felt nice. Hearing a different voice like this. Unlike the same monotonous voice ringing through her ears over and over again— Her fingers tightened around the handle, heterochromatic eyes dipping back down as the woman began babbling once more.

"This is my third child actually. I'm going back to my hometown for the delivery."

"Oh?" Narumi inclined her head. "Your husband not with you?"

The woman smiled tiredly, a laugh escaping her lips as she tugged at the cuffs of her sleeve. "Mhm, no he's not."

Narumi's gaze followed the movement, staring down at the white bandages wrapped around the nimble arms. She frowned. "I'm sorry."

"It's not like it's your fault," The woman laughed, patting her proud and round belly. A forlorn look touched her face. "You know what they say, marriage is like a gamble. Love feels nice and all at first but in the end, things tend to… change."

Narumi remained silent, the ends of her lips curving downwards. The older woman turned to her, a sly smile on her face as her eyes dragged across her figure once more. "Judging by those empty hands, I don't think you're currently seeing anyone."

"I've had my share," Narumi admitted with a coy smirk, wriggling her fingers. "I just get bored pretty easy so I don't tend to stay much."

"A player, I see." The woman commented with an amused look. "Easier to break hearts than having your own broken I suppose."

Narumi shrugged, gaze falling back down to the swollen belly. The woman seemed to notice as she smiled faintly, dropping her hand to the side as she gestured towards her stomach. "Would you like to feel it?"

Cobalt blue and emerald green blinked, mismatched eyes glancing from the heavy tummy up to the woman's face in surprise. "Can I really?"

"Go for it," The woman cracked a grin.

Tentative fingers reached ahead, spreading over the expanse of the loose fabric and grazed across the bulge of the woman's tummy. Narumi's eyes glittered, ears filling with the sounds of a woman's rattling cough and cracked windows banging because of the wind— "It's your brother in there, 'Rumi." "Woah, really?"— Narumi gently pressed her fingers, feeling the life that thrummed beneath her touch.

"Is this your first time touching a pregnant woman's belly?" The woman teased good naturedly.

Not the first time. Narumi felt a kick under her palm, an easy smile curling her lips as she pulled away. "I have a lot of younger siblings to be honest."

"You're the eldest?" The woman tilted her head. She eyed the formal attire once more. "They must be proud of what their sister is today. Office work sure tends to be monotonous though."

A grin tugging her lips, Narumi laughed loudly. "It's actually my first day at work."

"Well, good luck to you, Narumi-chan!"

Her eyes softening, Narumi offered a wide smile of her own. She couldn't clearly remember talking to someone like this. Out of her usual job, things were always the same. Just work, work, and more work so she could make the best profits. And be a good sister. Her heart swelled at that, the only thought that had kept her going for all these years.

Always for my family.

The train came to a smooth halt. The doors hissed open, passengers going in and out.

Narumi turned to bid the woman farewell but paused as the older woman abruptly stood up. Noticing the questioning stare, she smiled apologetically. "I may have to use the restroom."

Narumi nodded, automatically holding her arms out to carry the heavy luggage. The woman shook her head, stepping away from the outstretched hands.

"I may be carrying a baby. But I can manage my own weight, I assure."

With a quiet snort, Narumi followed her out on the platform. Once the doors slid shut again, the woman shrugged up the purse on her shoulder as she turned to face Narumi. "It was nice meeting you, Narumi-chan. Good luck at your new job."

"Thank you, mam." Narumi politely bowed, wavy white hair slipping past her shoulders. "Wishing you and your baby the very best."

The woman watched her carefully, the corners of her lips lifting into a smile. "Thank you, dear."

Narumi waved a hand as the woman left, then turned in the opposite direction, heels clacking against tiles as she walked away on the platform. Her hands clasped behind her back, a frown marring her face when the communication device in her ear crackled to life suddenly.

"Made a friend there, huh?" The voice echoed in her ear. Narumi rolled her eyes, making her way further. She could almost make out the exit staircase across the number of people.

"Ever heard of privacy?"

"Don't tell me you're still mopey about last night."

Narumi's lips pressed into a thin line. "It's my job. I'm not mopey about anything."

The voice tutted over the communication link mockingly. "Oh, please. I could hear from your tone just how much—"

Narumi quickly sidestepped as someone ran past, nearly barreling into her with his speed.

There was a flash of milky brown hair, a tan jacket flapping after him as he bolted away. She didn't bother looking over her shoulder, only mumbled disapprovingly. "Moron didn't even apologize. Aren't people here supposed to be extra polite or something?"

"You're talking like you ain't Japanese too."

Narumi's frown deepened and she raised a hand, about to click the comm shut—

"Clear Tokyo Metropolitan Station immediately. A hostage situation has taken place. We require all passengers to empty the station so the police can perform their job."

Narumi halted in her tracks. The announcement had sent the people around her in a frenzy, panicking like wild sheep as the speakers continued to coax and advise to keep away.

Her mother had always told her that she had a particular good sixth sense. For as a child she could tell when it would rain, tiny chest puffing out proudly when dark clouds massed in the sky and rain showered over the the rice fields.

She shifted on her feet, sighing in annoyance when the voice in her ear spoke sharply. "The hell do you think you're going?"

"Just gonna check," Narumi answered tersely, sprinting back.

"Check? What the fuck! Don't—"

Narumi clicked the comm shut. She reached the station, threading between the crowd of people clutching onto their phones and filming the scene. Two good deeds in one day wasn't a habit she had but taking a look never hurt anyone.

A man stood, greying hair and dull blue eyes as he snarled at the crowd threateningly. His arm was wrapped around a throat, weak hands clawing against the sleeve of his jacket as tears spilled down warm brown eyes.

Narumi froze as the woman from the train sobbed, thrashing against her husband's hold.

"H-Help!"

"Shut up!" He snapped. Narumi blinked slowly as he dug the muzzle of a pistol against the woman's temple. "My wife was running away. I'm only here to get her."

"Sir." A voice piped up, strong and smooth as the figure beside her shifted.

Milky brown hair, tan jacket, tall stature—Rude guy who had nearly bumped into her before. Narumi followed the easiness of his movements, zeroing in on his calm persona. Undercover police? "Please drop the gun."

Her gaze flitted to his hips searchingly, perplexed on finding no hints of a holster under the baggy jacket. The comm in her ear crackled once more, a low growl ripping through it. "Narumi, get out of there."

The woman whimpered, fat tears bubbling in her eyes. "Please, he'll kill me and my baby."

"Sir, please calm down."

"Narumi—"

Two good deeds in one day wasn't a habit she had.

"Get the hell away from her," Her voice cut through the tense atmosphere sharply. Eyes and cell phones snapped her way, surprised and intrigued.

Narumi frowned, making her way forward when a hand snapped out, clasping around her elbow and yanking her back. Her gaze shot upwards, heterochromatic eyes meeting a deep golden as the man—tan jacket, fluffy sandy hair— glowered down at her.

"Oi, oi. What do you think you're—"

She ripped her arm out of his grasp, turning back to the man holding onto the flailing woman. Sweat dripped down his brow, eyebrows creasing when Narumi trudged closer.

"I won't hesitate to shoot!" He barked, shaking his wife roughly.

The older woman whimpered once more, attempting to tear away from the painful hold.

The man gritted his teeth, positioning his gun away from his wife and towards the approaching steps. His arm trembled. "I said I won't hesitate!"

"Oi," the rude guy from before hissed after her, nearing from behind. "This isn't safe—"

Narumi's eyes gleamed as the man jerked away from his wife and lunged at her swiftly. She planted her feet firmly on the ground, hand clasping around the wrist of his arm that held the pistol. The man gasped as she drove him forward on his own momentum, another hand clamping down on the back of his neck and sending him crashing face first into the floor.

A heavy weight settled on his back, gun clattering to the side as Narumi pinned his wrists behind him. Slender fingers dug into his hair, pulling his head up then slamming it back onto the ground and making him see stars.

Narumi scowled. "People like you make me sick."

Footsteps ushered her way, the same rude guy kneeling beside her as he pulled out a pair of silver handcuffs. She plucked them out of his grasp, ignoring the incredulous look he shot her way as she snapped them around the man's wrist with ease.

"Guess you really were a officer, huh." Narumi grinned faintly, sitting back.

Rude guy frowned, moving in and hauling the criminal onto his feet. "Sir, you are under arrest for assaulting a civilian and threatening an officer."

"That's my wife!" The man argued, blood dripping down his nose. "And that wasn't even a real gun. The hell are you—"

"Charge him for domestic abuse too." Narumi supplied quickly.

Rude guy set her with a surprised look but she was already walking ahead with quick steps, nearing the sniffling victim. The woman from the train was settled onto the floor, hugging the bulge of her belly as she silently wept. Narumi touched the woman's shoulder, offering a reassuring squeeze. "Hey, I'm sure a medic is on it's way."

"Yeah, they are." Narumi blinked, glancing up as the rude guy halted by her side, still holding the apprehended criminal. "And I would like you to come to the station with me too, mam."

Blue and green glimmered mischievously, a slow smirk curling Narumi's lips as she rose on her feet.

"Of course, Inspector."

.

.

The car wasn't as big as she hoped it would be. Narumi leaned back in the passenger seat, glancing down at her golden bracelet every now and then. From the distance she could make out a number of suited men, the rude guy engaged in a heated argument with one of them.

"Katou-senpai, you did not have the clearance to intervene into a crime scene like that."

"Oh, come on, Hoshino. If I hadn't been there who knows what could've happened."

"You're lucky that it was just a fake gun, Katou-san. Otherwise you would have to hear from the higher ups again."

Narumi sunk deeper into the fading cover of the seat, gaze lingering across the interior of the car. Were the cars really this small?

She rested her hands in her lap, peeking sideways as the door of the car clicked open and the rude guy— Haru Katou slid into the driving seat.

He clicked in his seatbelt, sparing her a glance. "Thank you for cooperating with us."

You mean cooperating with just you. Narumi smiled amiably. "No problem."

The car whirred to life, springing into motion, and Narumi stared down at the dashboard in amusement. Were all the cars really this horrible or was it just this guy's? Silence descended on them, Haru continuing to drive while she peered out from the rolled down window.

Pedestrians and more vehicles met her intrigued gaze. Nothing out of the ordinary.

"How did you know?"

Narumi decided to humor him. "Knew what?"

Haru had his hands set on the steering wheel, golden eyes peeking at her for a split second before settling back on the road. "That he had a fake gun."

Narumi crossed one leg over the other, smoothing out the creases of her black skirt as she hummed. "Would you like me to be honest?"

When a slow nod answered her, she bounced her shoulders. "I didn't."

The car came to a screeching halt before a crimson traffic light. Narumi winced as she jerked forward in the seatbelt clasped across her torso.

Fingers tightened around the steering wheel, knuckles growing white as Haru turned his head sharply. "The fuck? So you just jumped into danger like that—"

"Wow, you really get angry, huh." Narumi interrupted, amusement slipping into her voice as her gaze strayed back to his hips. No gun. "Getting so emotional in your field of work isn't the best, Inspector Katou."

Haru clenched his jaw, frosty glare set on her. Narumi cocked her head to the side, taking in the ablaze golden eyes and the angry scrunch of his brows. She could label him as cute. Almost.

He didn't look like he was worth much though. Plain clothes, small car, the cheap watch around his wrist flashing digits. Probably wasn't in a good grade in the force either. There's a flicker of bright blue eyes in her mind; black pristine suit, leather gloves and money. Money, money, so much money that maybe the man could fill a whole swimming pool with it and swim.

Narumi would very much like him to drown.

"I'm already running late for work." She said calmly, shooting a bored look to the set of indignant eyes glaring holes into her head.

"Please drive a little quicker, Inspector."

Traffic lights shone green before them and the car went back into motion.

With a resounding clack, the car door shut behind her. Narumi stepped onto the sidewalk, inspecting the long building looming infront of her. She clasped her arms behind her back, smiling apologetically as a sulking figure paused beside her.

"Don't close doors so forcefully." Haru scowled.

"Sorry."

Dragging a hand down his face, he glanced at her. "We just need you to fill out some paperwork so try to be patient with me here."

"I am completely patient," Narumi fell in step with him.

He reached ahead, clasping the handle of the main entrance glass door and held it open for her. Narumi took a moment, eyes flickering from the door and back to his impatient face.

"Wow," Narumi whistled, sliding in the building as he closed the door behind her gently. She smirked teasingly under his questioning stare. "Chivalry still isn't dead, huh?"

Amusement flickered across her face when his ears flushed pink slightly, his brows creasing even more as he cleared his throat, gazing ahead. "So the paperwork is gonna be done in the first division's office. I would've let Hoshino handle this but he's busy with that wacko husband. So I'm just gonna take you there instead."

Narumi nodded absently, peeking at a few men walking past them.

She peered through the halls searchingly, the image of those obsidian blue eyes engraved perfectly into her memory. Come on out.

Another few minutes of walking and they halted near a door. Haru lifted a hand for the door handle when the door swung open instead.

Narumi inched back swiftly, lips twitching in silent hilarity when the door slammed right into Haru's nose. He cursed loudly and clutched his nose with a wince. "Damn it."

A figure emerged from the room, brows knitting together on seeing them. "Haru-kun?"

"Hey, Takei-san." Haru mumbled through his hand. "I, uh, wanted to speak to you about something concerning today's subway assault."

Takei raised a brow, looking a bit concerned because of the heavy nasal tone Haru was speaking in.

Haru gestured towards his side. "This here with me is—"

Narumi stomped her foot on the floor, fingers held up in a mock salute as she smiled proudly. "Officer Shiro Narumi at your service!"

Golden eyes swiveled her way, Haru blinking stupidly while Takei gave a knowing smile, holding out his hand. "Ah, good for you to join us, Shiro-san. You were so late I was considering sending someone to search for you in case you had got lost in the city."

"I got a little sidetracked," Narumi admitted with a laugh, clasping his hand in a firm shake. "It's great to finally meet you, Takei-san."

Mismatched eyes peeked sideways, meeting wide honey gold as Haru gawked openly.

"Sorry about being late." Narumi smirked coyly.

"First day of work so I'll let it slide," Takei shook her hand once more, and opened the door of his office again. "Let me introduce you to the rest of the first division."

Narumi tipped her head to the side innocently. "Didn't Katou-san have some business with you though?"

Haru opened his mouth wordlessly upon being addressed before shaking his head as he dropped his hand from his nose. "Uh, it can wait."

"Good," Takei pulled the door open wider, already making his way in. "Come now."

Narumi trailed after him, tucking a strand of white hair behind her ear as she winked playfully.

"Thanks for the ride, Katou-san~"

His face growing warm, Haru mumbled back with a frown. "Oi, don't act so cheeky—"

The door fell shut with a soft click.

Stacks of paper piled up on the wooden table, files and documents scattered across the broad surface as it waited patiently to be sorted through. A hand slapped down on the tower of paper, making it tremble momentarily.

"This is your assigned task for today. Get it done before eight alright?"

Narumi's gaze shifted from the scattered paperwork and back to the mauve eyes fixed on her. She dipped her head into a polite bow, snowy white locks tumbling down her shoulders. "Of course, Hoshino-senpai."

Hoshino blinked once, brows furrowing before he waved a hand dismissively. "No need to call me that."

Narumi stood back straight, arms folded behind her as she cocked her head. "Are you sure?"

"... yeah." Hoshino responded, jabbing a thumb towards the table. "Just get this work done. We normally hold a small party in this club nearby when a new recruit joins but today's been busy so you'll have to wait—"

A door creaked open, and Hoshino perked up slightly, round eyes flicking behind her. Narumi shifted, pausing on finding a familiar face staring back at her.

"Shiro-san," Haru called tentatively, standing with one foot in the room and hand gripping the door handle. "Uh, can I have a minute?"

Narumi glanced back at Hoshino, perplexed when his stern gaze stayed locked on Haru.

"Don't take too long."

"I won't." She turned on her heel.

Closing the door after her, Narumi halted in the corridor. Her arms slid into a cross under her chest and mismatched eyes glittered in amusement.

"Still gonna make me do the paperwork, huh, Inspector?"

"No!" Haru shook his head quickly, sandy brown hair bouncing with the motion. One hand burying into the pocket of his tan jacket, he rubbed the back of his neck as he glanced sideways, mumbling. "I just wanted to… apologize for what happened in the morning."

"Oh?" Narumi feigned surprise.

"Yeah, well, I didn't know that you were a part of the force. And my superior at that but it was still pretty reckless how you just jumped in there like that unarmed—"

"You were unarmed too." Narumi said pointedly.

Haru paused at that, looking down at her with knitted brows when she shifted onto her toes, peeking over his shoulder and across the hallway.

Footsteps echoed off the tiles, nearing them leisurely. Narumi watched curiously as the man neared them, sharp blue eyes, gelled hair, pristine black suit— Finally. Her eyes flickered briefly. Found you.

"Inspector Katou," his voice was smooth as silk. He paused right beside the taller man, both of them looking like a complete contrast of each other. "Everyone is waiting for you back at the office."

"Haah?!" Haru frowned sourly. "I said I wasn't interested in going for dinner—"

"Chief Kiyomizu is insisting." Those dark blue eyes shifted ahead and he arched a perfectly sculpted brow. "But I see you have more important matters to attend."

Narumi stared back, unfazed by the pressing gaze set on her while Haru spluttered dumbly. "Oi, bastard, don't go thinking stuff like that—"

"I'm sorry, Katou-san." Narumi spoke up finally. Haru blinked down at her as she shifted back with an apologetic smile. "I think I'm taking up too much of your precious time."

"No, you're not!" Haru blurted instantly, wincing at the sudden pitch in his voice while Daisuke snorted beside him. A sigh escaping his lips, Haru ran a hand through his messy hair.

"Look, I just wanted to apologize about earlier. I don't want you to remember me as some rude guy who couldn't even do his job straight and on top of that you ended up late at work too right on the first day."

Haru paused, gaze dipping down to the delicate hand held out infront of him.

Narumi smiled brightly, arm stretched out as she gave an apologetic look of her own. "I'm sorry for not telling you about myself first too. It's just that you looked pretty cute being angry and all."

Daisuke's gaze sharpened slightly while Haru felt his face grow warm, muttering a set of intangible sentences. "Wh-what!"

"I'm just joking!" Narumi giggled.

With a huff, he clasped the offered hand in his own. Haru smiled softly, callused fingers gently squeezing around the soft palm. "Welcome to the TMPD, Shiro-san."

"Good to be here," Narumi beamed up at him.

Blue eyes lingered over the clasped hands, moving upwards to meet blue and green irises as Narumi's lips curled into a faint grin before she held out the same hand once more. "And it's good to meet you too, um…?"

Daisuke set her with a quiet calculating look before turning to Haru boredly. "Don't take too long, Katou."

Ignoring the awaiting hand, Daisuke pivoted on his heel with his hands sliding into the pockets of his pants. Narumi curled her fingers, her smile going tight as she awkwardly dropped her fist back to her side.

Haru shot a glare over his shoulder before offering her a sheepish grin. "Don't mind Kambe. He can be a bit of an ass sometimes."

"...it's fine." Narumi hummed quietly, glancing at the retreating back a final time.

She reached for the doorknob. "Right. I better get going too—"

"Sorry."

The door half open, mismatched eyes drifted back to meet molten gold. Haru waved his hand, an amiable smile on his face. "For nearly bumping into you in the subway too."

"Moron didn't even apologize." Her fingers going lax around the round doorknob, Narumi heard her own words ring within her ears. A smile curved her lips, and she rolled her eyes.

"Please I don't even remember small things like that."

.

.

.

.

.

"I don't like her."

Haru jammed his hands into the pockets of his jacket, glancing quizzically at his partner. "What?"

"There's something off about her." Daisuke deducted grimly.

Their footsteps echoed off in the empty hallway. Haru snorted with a roll of his eyes. "You say it like you actually like some of the people you work with."

Blue eyes spared him a discreet glance, and the millionaire quickened his pace. Haru cursed, picking up speed as well. "Oi, oi, slow down, rich boy!"

Daisuke smirked.

Twenty-four hours earlier.

The concrete of the rooftop beneath her was ice cold, the chill biting into her skin. Her legs were sprawled out behind her as she lay propped on her elbows, eyes narrowed in focus. She peered through the scope, gaze locked onto the faraway shop window.

A voice piped up, the comm in her ear buzzing to life. "You see him?"

"I see him, yeah."

Her eyes watched how the toy shop's glass door swung open, a man stepping out on the sidewalk. His hair was a mix of black gray, eyes tired and business suit wrinkled as the door fell shut behind him.

Though what caught her eye was the fluffy white teddy bear clutched between his hands.

"Do it now."

"Right—"

She paused, finger brushing over the lock as childish laughter filled the night air. The man stood on the sidewalk, a smile tugging his lips as he made his way towards his car.

The car's window slid down, golden pigtails popping into view and she watched quietly as a little girl's head emerged from the window. Pink ribbons twisted around her hair, the child giggled loudly, small arms stretched out towards her father.

There was a sudden tug in her chest, something that she hadn't felt for a long time. The growl from her earpiece snapped her out from her reverie. "Rumi—"

"Shut up." Narumi mumbled, lying flat on her stomach on top of the cold rooftop. Gloved fingers thumbed the icy metal under her thoughtfully. "Do we have to kill him right now?"

A heavy sigh came from the other side of the line. "Don't tell me you're going soft 'cause of the little brat over there."

"Answer me."

"Yeah. You gotta kill him now. He's leaving for a year business trip in the next two hours. The brat's gonna be with him till the airport."

Narumi let out a breath, sucking in her bottom lip as the man handed over the stuffed toy over to his daughter. The child beamed up at him with sparkling eyes. Narumi shifted her weight on her other arm, the frosty metal of the sniper rifle biting into her skin once more.

"Just do us both a favor and kill him now, would ya?"

"He has a child."

"That he does, and another is on its way too from what I've picked up from his bio."

He's a father. She inhaled softly, eyes falling shut for a second as she mulled over the thought of the man, knocked out on the concrete with a bullet hole ripped through his head. Crimson pooling around him as he would lay there motionless, that little girl screaming as she became an orphan. His wife sobbing with her arms around her heavy belly, bearing the weight of a widow.

The voice in her ear spoke up again, impatient. "Rumi—"

"Shut up."

Mismatched eyes cracked open, blue and green flickering as her fingers settled down on the lock, the gun clicking softly in the coldness of the night.

And she waited; waited for that little girl to leave, waited for her so that she wouldn't be scarred for life, waited because there could be a slim chance that this mission could be called off, waited so—

Quit lying to yourself.

Her finger slid over the trigger, and tugged.

The gun beneath her reeled, the bullet tearing soundlessly through the darkness until there was just a soft thud of flesh hitting the pavement. A loud scream echoed off into the night, followed by hysterical shrieks and cries.

Narumi rolled her shoulders, shifting onto her back as she gazed up at the starry sky. Wavy white locks spilled around her head as she blinked, ears vibrating with the frantic sobs below the gigantic building she was perched on.

"Took you long enough." The deep voice in her ear snorted as she sat upright, dragging her boot clad feet across the rooftop.

"Shut up."

Narumi leaned against the steel railing, the iciness of the metal seeping into the back of her leather jacket as she slipped on a pair of dark aviators over her eyes. The comm in her ear crackled once more, and a dim green holographic screen flickered to life in her line of sight.

An ID uploaded, an entire bio unfolding in green digits and words. Narumi clicked her tongue, skimming over the details.

"Can you guess how much they're paying us to kill this big shot?"

"Mhm, how much?" She halted in her quick reading when an image popped up.

Dark hair slicked back, deep blue eyes, sharp jaw and pristine suit. Narumi blinked once, head tilting to the side curiously. He's pretty cute.

"Unlimited balance this time, Narumi."

A\N: *peeks in* Okay so I tried my very best to hold back from writing in this fandom but my love for the characters took over and here we are /3 Also yes, this whole plot is taking place somewhere between the storyline of the anime. The canon ending hasn't happened yet and so Takei and Cho-san are still alive c:

Narumi is a hella fun character that I'm playing around with. Gray characters are always so fun to write and it's so cool spanning out the complexity that they hold. We're gonna delve more into Narumi's storyline as well as the rest of the characters. I have a buncha idea for them (especially with Haru hehehe) so I hope you all will enjoy~!

Thank you for reading~! 3
