Xenomorph: Being Honest
Chapter One: The Road Not Taken
The air was fresh, clean and cool, just the way Amun usually liked it. This day however, his mind was racing around with so many questions that he could not enjoy the feeling of the cold wind against his hard exoskeleton. The beauty of the landscape before him was going half noticed because he was trapped within his own mind. He felt as if he was drowning, that he could not escape the landslide of his own emotions. And it was all being conducted by one simple question; what do I do?
He let out a loud sign and kept staring out into the blank, gray sky that felt deeper than any sea he could fall into. Deeper than the question he now had to find the answers to.
"What do I do…I know you are not her…I know that! But still…why does my heart hurt so if I know this to be true? She even said it herself, she is not Jolene. But...why?" Question and answers ran through his head with such speed that he was beginning to give himself a headache. He raised his giant, clawed hand and placed it upon the side of his crowned head. He let loose another loud sign, this time something reacted to his silent cry of pain. He looked down to the three resting Xenomorph's that were curled up between his feet. The sight washed away his dread and brought happiness back to his mind.
Bobby, who was clearly larger than the other two, had wrapped herself around the smaller drones who now enjoyed Amun's warmth. The smaller ones he knew to be the two drones that they had rescued from the lab in their last attack on Weyland's science facility. Amun could still remember finding them within the small, cramped pod. Frozen in some kind of cryo-sleep.
The twin's, as they had started calling them, had assimilated rather well into Amun and Emilia's family, easily becoming friends with all of their daughters. Which was something Amun did not think would happen. He was not sure how alien hive society worked. He wished he could have ask Jolene, she would be able to tell him in a heartbeat how things worked. He remembered Jolene telling him that the main theory in the alien community was that each hive would fight one another for dominance in the area. Like rival ant hives. They would fight to the last Xeno until the opposing Queen was killed.
However, this was not the case with these two, they seemed rather happy and calm when surrounded by a hive that was not theirs. Amun had wondered if Wayland had done something to them in order to make them more compliant, and this was a side effect. Either way, Amun was happy that they were safe and doing well.
There had been a few challenges along the road with the two drones, the main one being getting them to talk telepathically. Amun did not think there was anything physically wrong with them, but try as everyone might, they had not said a word since being found. They had no problem receiving their telepathic messages it seemed, but no matter how hard Amun's hive tried, not one word was given back. Again, perhaps something the company had done? He did not know.
In the end, Amun and Emilia had taken the two in as their own, taking pity on them for losing their family. They also knew they had nowhere else to go, it's not like they could just leave them in a forest somewhere without guidance in a world that they probably didn't know. Plus adding two more to their hive of one hundred did not make too much of a difference. His attention was taken from his thoughts as the three shifted and pull each other close, perhaps to enjoy each other warmth. It made Amun smile and he could sense how happy they all were.
"Good morning Father."Bobby's soft voice emerged from the silence of the mountains. She must have quietly awoken without him noticing. Which is a bit easy when they did not have eyes.
"Good morning little one, comfy?" He said with a mental smile. The twins had both curled themselves around Bobby in such a way that gave her little room to move. But enough to rest.
"It is nice and warm with these two, but they do tend to cuddle closely. How are you?" She asked as she shifted slightly to look up at her father.
"Enjoying the cold air. I needed time to cool down and think." As he finished his response, he felt a wave of concern and caring from his first born.
"About her?" He nodded his large, crowned head. His entire hive knew that he was at war with himself over this recent discovery of this other Queen. They had all been supportive, they were family after all. They also knew that his decisions moving forward would affect them all, which meant that just over one hundred Xeno's would be involved. This was not something to be decided in a split second so the hive did not ask too many questions. "I do not know her, but I hope she is safe and away from harm." Bobby stated.
"As long as she is imprisoned by Wayland, she is far from harm. That is why I wish to help her. Not just because of what or who she may have been, but because of the horror's that might be happening to her." As Amun spoke, he felt the smaller twin Xeno's starting to wiggle between his feet. He looked to them and sent out a mental smile, he could feel them mentally waking up as well. "Morning you two."
They both began to stretch, opening their mouth's and extending their second jaws to their fullest. Tail's were pushed outward and claws flexed, it reminded Amun of a house cat. Cats...something sparked in his mind. He thought for a moment and wondered if he had owned a cat before he had been turned into a Xeno.
"Cat...no, it wasn't a cat...it was...something else..." His mind began to fill with fuzzy images from his past. He had not owned a cat, it had been something smaller and more...deadly? Something not usual for a house pet. He struggled to remember, but he could remember lots of jokes about it with someone…a friend? Someone...someone he meet often. A face slowly came to his mind that he could not place a name too. Who was this?
Memories of his life within the science lab came flooding back to him like a hurricane as the persons face became clearer. Of how much he did for the company he had been with, how much work he usually had on Mondays and his co-workers. Co-workers? Friends? That was it! This face! It had been someone he worked with at the lab, someone he knew rather well. He remembered joking with someone that last day! Before he...he did something? Had opened something? A container with something in it! Something that he was excited to work with but...then they showed up! The men in black! His friends had been nowhere to help him. His friend...
"Charles! I remember!" He explained. Bobby and the twins snapped to attention at the sudden statement but Amun did not notice. "I...I remember, you were there that day in the lab. We were joking about a pet I owned. A reptile of some kind. Then I…I opened that container that I was suppose to run tests on! I…I remember a man, someone who I pissed off and was not happy." Amun said as he talked to himself.
"Father, what are you talking about." Amun's attention turned to the ground, where three little Xeno's were looking up at him. He mentally reached out and felt Bobby and attempted to send her an idea of what he was feeling.
"My…my past Bobby. I remember…the day I was changed. I was a scientist for a chemical and bio-genetics company…" It hit him like a meteor, the realization that he had worked for the very company that had changed him. The same one that had murdered his family, who had murdered Jolene. He stood frozen. How much of his own work had helped to create the very chemical that had been used upon him? How much had he done to cause Weyland to kidnap people and force them to change. How much had he been involved in the experiments that now haunted Emilia?
"Father…what is this…this sadness?" Amun quickly suppressed his emotions, knowing that they were probably causing Bobby discomfort. He watched as the two twins circled her, it seemed that they could tell something was wrong as well. He let out a large sigh to calm his mind and looked to his three daughters. He then reached down and scooped them up within his large claws.
"Come my beautiful children, we have something to tell your mother. Something to tell everyone that might not make them happy." The three Xeno's climbed up onto Amun's back without question.
The three started their journey back towards their current hive which was a mix between cave and forest. Emilia, who wanted nothing to do with another damp hole in the stone, had organized her daughters to start creating of a hive structure within the thickest part of the forest. One that was below the tree tops so no one could see it from above, but one that was as strong as a fortress to protect their family. From the side of the mountain that he was on, Amun only knew which way to head because of the mist of pheromones coming from the hive structure. it bellowed up from a section of trees like a colorful wild fire. It was a beacon to him and his family so they may always find their way home.
As Amun thundered through the trees on the side of the mountain, his three daughters moved to his back and curled up to enjoy the ride. The sun was out in full force today which made it was rather hot. With their dark, onyx colored exo-skeletons, it made it even warmer. It had been the reason that Amun enjoyed his time in any body of water he could find.
There was a small patch of snow nearby that he liked to utilize due to the lack of a water source near their new home, so he went there often. It had been a good way to start his mornings. It occurred to him that Emilia had probably thought of the same thing, so he turned his large body and started heading to his left.
"Where are we going Father?" He heard Bobby ask from his back.
"I have a feeling that your Mother is cooling down at the snow bank. We will go check." He explained as he jumped down a small hill. He landed on all fours and flexed his talons into the soft dirt. "Hang on you three." He felt the three Xeno's on his back clutch onto his back tubes and then he took off.
He ran with such speed for something so large! His strength and speed had no equal other than maybe Emilia but in speed only. As he ran he dodged and weaved between trees attempting to miss them but keep his speed up as much as he could, enjoying the physical exercise. Usually he would use his crown and just run through anything in his path, but he liked this challenge. He wanted to become more nimble on his feet encase it was the only option in the future.
As he ran he could not help but remember his daughters, his family and all that had happened. It was why he had grown fonder of going for runs. It helped him remember what had happened and helped him clear his head. Even though it caused him pain to remember, he promised himself that he would never forget his family and that they had given their lives to protect one another.
As he ran through the mountain forest, he began to feel the presence of his daughters. He let loose a loud roar as he ran so that all could hear. The thunder of his cry filled the valley and echoed for miles. Something that ever predator within the valley would hear. He continued his run through the trees as Xeno after Xeno emerged from the vegetation of the forest, joining their King. Roars of joy could be heard as his daughters began to follow him.
He felt Bobby and the twins launch themselves from his back into the branches of the nearest tree where they too began to follow him, enjoying the thrill of a chase. As his feet shook the ground, it was almost dwarfed by the sound of his daughters following him. The roar of their run sounded like thunder of a raging storm that nothing could silence.
It filled him with pride to have his daughters run along with him. It brought a sense of family connection that he could never describe strongly enough. The mental connection they all shared, the joy they could feel when around one another. It was perfect.
As they approached the mountain on the opposite side of the valley, the ground began to change from lush forest to rock. However it did not slow down the aliens, it only changed their tactics. Amun watched as his daughters leapt from the trees and land among the giant boulders. He watched as a moment later the air was filled with Xeno's who were jumping from stone surface to stone surface, making their way up the mountain with great speed.
Amun, on the other hand, had to slow his pace and traverse the terrain a bit more carefully. He could have easily started jumping from boulder to boulder, but he did not for fear of injuring one of his family. So he got down to all fours and began his climb. Over boulders that were two stories high and up cliffs that were almost vertical! He climbed with his daughters around him. He could feel the joy that they all felt, as if they were playing a game to see who could get to the top the fastest. As he went up a rock face, he felt a few Xeno's jump upon his back to hitch a ride. He had a guess as to who it was.
"Rebecca, Julie, Mica...that is cheating." Amun said as he climbed up the rock. He hear the feminine giggle of the three who were holding onto his back. He next heard the soft voice of Rebecca within his head.
"Father, can you?" Was all he hear in his head as he felt his three daughters move to a specific spot upon his back. He sent them a mental smile, perhaps he would help for fun. Just as he reached the top of the cliff, he lowered his crowned head and took aim. Suddenly his three daughters went flying into the air above the rocks as he snapped open his hidden back spikes. They flew into the distance and took the lead from all his other daughters. He paused when he felt the gaze of more than one Xeno looking at him. He looked around and felt the disappointment from his family who saw the stunt.
"Father, that is not fair!" He looked to his feet to see Abby and Maria looking at him from a pile of boulders.
"Well they...I just...sorry." His shoulders and head fell in defeat as he felt his daughters piercing glare.
"DOG PILE!" It was the last thing he heard before ten or so of his daughters leapt upon him and safely cuddled into any open nook they could find on his body. Amun let loose a mental laugh. He had lost this battle for sure.
"And what is this?" He asked, purring lowly at his daughters.
"You get to take us up to mother now. Payment for cheating." He hear the voice of Jessica from his crown. "It's only fair." Amun could only mentally smile.
"Hang on my daughters." Was all the warning he gave before he took off, running not strait up the mountain, but off to the side. The entire side of the mountain was nothing but rock and let Amun see each one of his daughters as they climbed. Each of their pheromone trails popping out against the gray scale of his vision. So he moved so that none of them were directly in his path and he began to use his powerful legs to leap.
From boulder to boulder his massive body slammed into the rock, causing more than a few to break under his weight. He was not as graceful as his daughters, but he was still quick to traverse the jagged rocks. In no time he had caught up to the aliens that raced up the rock face.
Amun smiled as he even passed a few of his hive, feeling there shock as they sped up, not wanting to be beaten by their father. As he reached the last ridge and overcame its edge, he looked back to his daughters who were right behind him. As he watched he felt the Xeno's leaving his body and move into the small patch of trees that was behind him. It was then that he saw Bobby and the twin's at his feet. She looked up at him and let loose a low hiss.
" O come now, you know you would have enjoyed it if I took you up as well." He replied to his first born.
" Maybe...but it doesn't change the fact that it happened." She replied as the twins joined her at Amun's feet.
"Come, let us find your mother." He reached down and picked up the trio of Xeno's and placed them upon his crown. Turning to make his way into the trees, he mentally reached out to find his Queen. He was happy to find her just where he thought she would be. He also felt Abby, who had originally found the patch of snow and ice hidden high upon the mountain, beside her mother. Amun missed having a river nearby because it would be easier to get to, but this did just as well to cool his large body down. "Emilia, my Queen, how are you?" He called to her as he came into her view.
" Mmmm...enjoying the sun and the snow. It has been a peaceful day." Her voice nearly purred within his mind, he could tell that she was rather content. Amun gazed upon his hive, his family, resting comfortable on top of the large pile of snow. It must have been one hundred yards in length on the side of the mountain, so there was more than enough room for a hundred Xeno's.
Amun found Emilia with ease and was frozen in his tracks, he had truly come to love her natural beauty that she had. Alien or not, her soft lines, curves and figure were beyond attractive to him. He did not move as he took in her glistening, black, exoskeleton upon the white snow. Her body was perfectly outlined by her pheromones so he could appreciate her figure even further. His lust did not go unnoticed.
"Amun, not around our daughters!" Emilia whispered. Amun snapped to and noticed that his own pheromones had changed to a dark purple, which they knew meant that someone was rather aroused. He heard more than a few giggles from his daughters and took a deep breath to calm himself. He looked at his own arm and noticed his color change back to a calm, sea blue. "You really are bad at timing you know that?" Emilia told him as he made his way towards her.
"So you have told me, it does make things interesting at least." Amun came close to Emilia and rubbed his crown against hers. They both let loose low purrs and pressed into one another, enjoying the physical contact. " Hello my love, have the children been behaving?" He asked as he took his place beside her in the cold snow.
"More or less. Erin took up the leadership role and began to dig a tunnel system under me while I napped. I think she has gotten rather intricate with her design and I'm a bit worried we might collapse the whole thing." Amun Let loose a mental laugh.
" Erin was always a builder, she could never sit still could she." He replied. He reached out his mind to find his daughters and was surprised to find more than just a few under the surface of the snow. They were all crawling along tunnels and larger open areas, performing various tasks. Some cleaning out snow, other carving away at the hardened ice of the glacier. A sense of pride washed over him as his daughters worked so hard just for the fun of it, and with no direction from him or Emilia. Amun let out a long, happy sigh before he looked back to his Queen. He knew what had to come next might be hard to say.
"There is something I would like to talk to you about my dear." As he spoke, he watched as Emilia slowly began to produce a mist of dark yellow and black. He knew something was wrong. "What is it Emilia?"
"There is something I need to say as well, and I think that I might need to tell you first." Amun nodded to tell her to continue. "I do not think we should go after this other Queen... this one made from Jolene."Amun was taken back with all words stuck within his mind.
She had already agreed to help rescue her from the same scientists that had tortured her. The same ones that had taken her arm from her and caused him so much pain. Why was she saying this now? What had changed? So many thoughts ran through his head and it was obvious. He got up and began to pace back and forth, attempting to process what he had just heard.
"Amun, please stop over thinking it, there is a reason for this I promise, so let me explain." Amun calmed himself a bit, wanting her to continue He needed an explanation to calm his mind. Especially after she had already agreed to help him on the rescue mission. "Our family Amun...I do not want to lose another one of my daughters. No, I will not loss another one of my daughter. My heart would not bare it again. Which is why I will not risk their lives again. I will do anything to keep my daughters alive, you know this. I think that if we go to help this other Queen, it would mean more death."
Amun stood in silence after she had finished because part of him knew that she was not wrong. His logical side agreed with her, there is a very large risk involved with a rescue mission. He also did not want to lose another one of his daughters ever again and he would do anything in his power to make sure it didn't happen. This mission would likely come with a level of loss, be it his own life or those of his daughters.
However, his heart and soul would never let that decision go. He could never live with himself if he left Jolene to suffer the fate that Emilia once had. He could not help but feel disappointed knowing that she did not want to help him rescue someone who was in the same situation she had been in.
"Emilia, I can't...I can't just leave her. Even if it wasn't her, I would still want to help. You know better than anyone the horrors that they can do. Knowing that I cannot jus-"
"I don't care, Amun." She cut him off suddenly. He was shocked at how emotionless her statement was.
"Emilia..."
"I do not care!" She quickly snapped at him. " I care about our family..I care about our daughters. I don't care about something that they grew in a test tube. Something that was not once human. Our family, they were born in front of us and we watched them grow. That! That is what I care about. Not something that they cooked up just to piss you off." The last statement hit Amun harder than he thought it would.
It was true that they had used Jolene's DNA to create a queen just to get under his skin, but that did not mean that she was some item to be thrown into the trash. Amun's frustration and rage began to grow, forcing him to pace once again upon the snow and ice. Emilia realized how harsh her words had cut him from his reaction.
"I'm...I'm sorry Amun, I didn't mean it like that. But it is the truth, I know that Jolene mean something to you before but this Queen, this experiment, is not her. That's all she is, an experiment, she is not worth it." Amun knew she was trying to calm him down, but she was only making it worst.
"Experiment...was I not just an experiment? Weren't you? Was I not worth it? Were you not worth it?" He instantly knew that his statement had been a bit harsh. Amun could not be here any longer and began to walk off before he said something he would regret.
" Amun wait..." Emilia's words were ignored as Amun started down the mountain. He let his rage take over as he slid down the rock face, causing rocks to roll and fall down the slope all around him. He did not care, his only thoughts where on what she had said.
"Not worth it? Did I waste my time saving her then? How can I let Jolene rot in this hole, knowing that she is there. I would lie to myself if I said I didn't care. Damn it... DAMN IT!" He thought to himself as he quickly ran down the mountain and ended up surrounded by the tall trees of the forest. He did not slow as the ground turned from rock to dirt. This time instead of dodging the trees, Amun lowered his head down and began to run faster.
As he hit tree after tree, all he could do was be reminded of that day that he lost Jolene. How he had scooped up her motionless body and took off into a forest a lot like this one. Hitting tree after tree, just as he did now. Not caring about what he ran into, only that he had to get away. He ran and ran, hitting tree after tree until his crown began to hurt and he could feel his acid blood upon his exoskeleton. The pain brought his rage down. Amun slowly changed his run into a walk and then slowed until he stood still among the trees of the old forest in silence. Taking a deep breath, he attempted to suppress his memories and his anger, which was not easy for the large Xeno.
The images of that day he lost his past love played through his mind so easily he could not stop them. How he had not known who Jolene had been when he first emerged as a king from his cocoon. How they had shared breakfast together inside the farm house. How scared and excited she had first been when they meet in the back of a dump truck. How she had been shot and how she had died in front of him on that lonely road. How beautiful she had been. Amun fell to his knees with a loud crash.
"What do I do...my heart and mind are torn. I cannot leave you to suffer but... but my family needs me. I...What do I do..."
"So when do we leave?" The sudden comment made the three story alien jump, he was sure he had been alone. After the spike of adrenaline subsided, he looked around the forest to locate the source of the voice, knowing it was one of his daughters, just not from where. With his gray scale vision it should have been easy to spot her pheromones among the landscape, but he found himself coming up short.
"Where are you my daughter?" He finally had to ask when he could not find her. He watched the vegetation and was surprised when Abby emerged from the branches of the trees in front of him. She dropped from the trunk of the tree and walked the small distance to join her father and sat down in front of him.
"When do we leave?" She asked again looking up at the king, her tail playfully twitching behind her. Amun let out a sigh, realizing that she had overheard the conversation he had had with Emilia.
"We don't, I think... I think I might be doing this one alone little one. I will not risk your life for something I want to do. It is the only way to keep you all safe." He explained as he looked down at his beautiful daughter.
"That's fair...when do we leave?" Amun was about to once again tell her that she was not coming, but felt a sharp, mental response from her. She was coming no matter what he said. Stubborn. Amun mentally smiled, picked up his daughter and let her crawl upon his shoulder.
"Not just yet Abby...not yet."
