Five Nights at Freddy's! A Night with a Friend!
"Fresh out of college and the best job I could get was a night guard at a run down restaurant. Complains Mitch as he finishes putting on his night guard clothes. I guess I'm really this desperate for money, I could probably get my parents to give me more money than what I'm going to be earning at this place. He says as he looks at himself in his mirror and straightening his tie. Sighing, he collects his things and walks out the door of his apartment and waves down a taxi and tells the Driver where to go.
Arriving at his destination, as he gets out of the car he looks at the building. Able to still hear a few kids cheering and screaming from inside, Mitch realizes he's a bit early. "Eh, it's better to be early then late." He says to himself as he walks through the doors of his new job. Stepping foot into the restaurant, a few kids run by him almost knocking him down. Frowning a little at them for almost doing so, he continues to walk around to try and find his boss. As he looks around at all the arcade machines and pizza stations. He takes notice of something he didn't see when he came here for his interview. On the other side of the room past a bunch of tables, three robotic animals can be seen singing and playing around with a large group of kids.
"What the hell, I wasn't told there we're animatronics here. Says Mitch confused and a little uneased by the sight of them. Then, he remembers that when he arrived here last week he didn't actually go through the main entrance, but in fact he went in through a side door the manager took him through, he said it was a shortcut to his office. "Man, I did not sign up for this." Said Mitch, still staring at the animatronics. As he does, for a split second he swears that the bear looking one seemed to look at him.
As a quick shiver crawls down his spin, Mitch just walks onward until he runs into someone who looks like he works there. "Hi my name is Mitch, I'm the new guy." He says as he extends his hand to shake the other persons. "Pleasure to meet you Mitch, names Bryan, if you're looking for the main honcho he's in his office over there." Said the man as he shook Mitch's hand back and pointed him in the managers direction. "Thank you." Thanked Mitch as he heads to the managers office knocking on it before opening.
"Come in." Says a voice on the other side. Opening the door, Mitch sees a man in subpar clothing. The thing that seemed the most odd about the wear choice is the purplish blue tie he was wearing, it seemed to clash with the rest of the suit. "Ah, I remember you. Your name was. . . Carson, right?" Asks the man sitting up from his desk. "Um yeah, Mitch Carson; that's me. You can call me Mitch though." Mitch said as they exchanged a firm handshake. "Alright Mitch, you can call me Will." Says his manager as they both take a seat. "Wait, I thought your name was-" Mitch says confused. "Hehe, it's just a nickname my friends call me." Says Will chuckling.
"So tell me, he continues. How are you feeling about your first night?" He asks. "Honestly, I'm a little bit more worried now that I know that I have to babysit a bunch of creepy animatronics." Mitch said talking about the animatronics he saw. "Ah yes, I admit they can seem a little scary at first. But they are harmless, trust me." Will said reassuring him. "Okay, I guess." Says Mitch still feeling uneasy.
Walking out back into the main room, Will takes him around the restaurant showing him everything in it. "This is the area where we hold reserved birthday parties for our customers. Says Will pulling back a curtain showing him a small room with two small tables with birthday hats and confetti all over them. Next we have the arcade area, don't be afraid to play a little when you're here at night. I wouldn't want you quitting on your first night." Jokes Will patting Mithc on the back. Giving a slight grin back, they continue walking around.
"Now I know what you're probably thinking, Said Will suddenly. Why is a place like this still open? He says. Well, I built this place from the ground up. I spent my whole life trying to keep this place alive. No one but me, and I refuse to go out without a fight. He explains taking on a more stern tone. Let me tell you, I've had many offers to sell this place but I refused every one of them. It's been my dream to have a pizzeria where people can come and enjoy the wonders we have to offer. But, sadly with the recent decrease of customers it looks like I might just have to sell this place after all." He ends looking a little sad. "I'm sorry to hear that." Said Mitch trying to show his sympathy. In truth, Mitch didn't really care what happened to this place. Plus the way he sees it, the sooner this place closes he can find a better job.
Ahem* "Anyway, let me introduce you to the rest of our staff." Says Will getting back into manager character. Taking him to the back room, they are just in time to see the other employees before they leave for the night. "Everyone, I'd like you all to meet the newest member of our little family, this is Mitch Carson." Says Will as everyone looks in their direction. "Hi." "Yo." "Nice to meet you." Said all the other employees waving and greeting Mitch. "Nice to meet you all." Said Mitch trying not to seem shy. "Well, It's about closing time. I'll leave it to you to escort everyone out by the designated closing time." Said Will patting Mitch on the shoulder one more time before leaving them all to head home himself.
With another 10 minutes before it's time to tell everyone to leave, Mitch heads back into the main room to see if anyone is still around. Other than a husband and wife with two kids, the only other people still in the building are him and the yet to leave employees. Or at least that's what he thought, as he turns his head to his right, he sees a lone kid leaning against the wall near the door. Wearing a red shirt with grey jeans and black shoes, there isn't anything too off about the kid. But he does seem to be fixated on the now shut off animatronics on stage.
"Hey Mitch, Says a voice startling Mitch a little. Feel free to have some of the leftover pizza in the kitchen." Says Bryan as he walks over to him no longer in his work outfit. "Thanks. Says Mitch smiling. Hey, do you know who that kid is?" He asks Bryan, pointing to the kid in the corner. "Ah him, I don't actually know his name. I tried asking him once, but he's not much of a talker. I think he's new in town too, so I wouldn't put it past him for being a little shy." Said Bryan.
As Mitch looks back at the boy, he feels a little sympathy toward him. Thinking back to his childhood, he was exactly like him. Shy, scared of talking to anyone and seeming like a fool. Because he didn't talk, the kids at his school made fun of him and picked on him for it seeming like he doesn't have a voice. They spread rumors about him saying he has a girl's voice which was why he didn't talk. Other rumors included he has a high pitch voice and he's a creep that likes to spy on others. In his mind, he could relate to him.
"Well, let's see if I can't get him to open up." Says Mitch to Bryan as he starts to walk over to him. As he gets next to the boy, he bends down so he can be eye level with him. "Hi, my name is Mitch. What's yours?" He asks the boy. Staring at him for a moment, the boy just looks back at the animatronics without saying anything. Not wanting to give up, Mitch tries again to talk to him. "Which of them is your favorite?" He asks trying to see if he can see what he likes. "When is he coming back?" Asks the boy without looking at Mitch. "Who?" Wonders Mitch confused. "The fox, I miss him." Says the boy pointing to something off in the corner of the other side of the room. Looking over in the direction he's pointing, Mitch sees another smaller stage with the curtains drawn over it.
"Um, I don't know when the fox will be back. But I think it should be soon." Says Mitch trying to know what the boy is talking about. With no expression, the boy nods and heads to the exit and leaves. "Man, and I thought I wasn't the best at conversations as a kid." Says Mitch, feeling awkward.
"Well? How did that go?" Asks Bryan walking up behind him. "Well, he's friendly. I think. He said something about when is the fox coming back? You know what he's talking about?" Says Mitch asking Bryan. "Oh yeah, see we actually have four animatronics here. I don't remember what the fox's name was. But he had his own little show over in the corner there. Sadly, he suddenly started to malfunction on day for no reason. So we put him in the back so he doesn't hurt any of the customers." Explains Bryan pointing out a door with the sign "Parts and Service" on it.
"I'd stay out of there if I were you. Sometimes at night it can turn itself on again." Warns Bryan. "Why not just call a mechanic or something?" asks Mitch. "Heh, dude you've seen this place right? You think it makes sense for us to repair something that won't last long in a place that is getting taken down at some point soon? If anything, the boss can sell it for some dough." Say Bryan laughing. "I guess you have a point." Says Mitch agreeing. "Well, I need to get going. Maybe we can hang out sometime huh? See ya." Says Bryan waving by as he walks out. After watching him walk out, Mitch looks back at the Parts and Service room and wonders what happened to make the fox malfunction.
That night, with no one around, no one to talk to, Mithc sits alone in his office area just switching from camera to camera seeing if anything happens. sigh* "I knew this job would be a real snooze. Said Mitch bending back in his chair. I might just quit this job while I can. Like Will said, he's most likely going to have sell this place." He says taking a sip from his drink he got from the kitchen.
Going back to the cameras, he switches to another one pointing toward the stage. Staring at the animatronics on the stage, he can slightly make them out with the light provided by the huge windows in the front of the pizzeria. "Is that one blue or purple, I didn't get a good look at it before?" Wonders Mitch looking at one of the animatronics on stage. As his eyes wander around the screen, he can slightly see the Parts and Service room on the left side of it. Taking a closer look at it, he sees the door is ever so ajar. "What the? Was that open before? Says Mitch confused.
On another tv system, he goes to rewind the footage from earlier to be able to see if the door was ever ajar. Looking back over the footage from the moment he got in that day, the door had been closed even after everyone else had left, looking for the point when the door first became ajar. Finally, he found the point when it happened, it was not but 12 minutes ago from now. Now a little terrified, Mitch questions if he should go out and investigate. "How could. .? No. I must be seeing things. Yeah, it probably just opened on its own. It's probably a really old door, that's something that could happen. Says Mitch trying to calm himself down.
Working up his courage, he goes out to the main room to close the door himself. As he gets in front of the door, he starts to feel his fear take ahole again. Swallowing his fear, he cracks the door open a little to see what's inside. Taking a look around the dimly lit room, he sees a few masks belonging to the animatronics on stage resting on some shelves. The room is not very big, but he only sees what is visible to him through the small opening in the door. Not wanting to look inside any longer, he quickly closes the door and makes sure it's closed securely before going back to his office.
As Mitch goes back into his office and sits down at his desk again, he can't help but shiver at the thought of not knowing how the door could have opened itself. It's just a screwy door. They pop open all the time. He keeps telling himself in his head. Then, as if on cue, he feels like his heart stops as he hears the slightest creak of a door. Afraid to look up, he glances at the security camera and sees the same door has come ajar once again.
Feeling his whole world collapsing around him, he does nothing but sit still in his chair staring at the camera waiting for something to happen. The door opening more, something peeking out. But nothing. Nothing else happens. Even though nothing is happening, Mitch can't help but feel more fear from that. "I can't do this. This is way too crazy for me." Mitch says afraid to move. Finally able to find his courage, he gets up and peeks his head out into the hallway to the main room. Unable to contain his fear, Mitch makes a dash for the exit. As he quickly tries to find the right key to open the door he hears a new noise, a single squick. But not one like a door, like gears moving. Shoving the key in the lock, he bursts through the door and runs as fast as he can away from the building.
After making it home, Mitch falls asleep in his bed instantly, too afraid to stay awake and think of what happened. But as he sleeps he starts to have a nightmare. In this nightmare, he's back in the pizzeria sitting at his desk. But nothing is on, the cameras aren't working, the ceiling light won't come on. Yet somehow, there is light coming from somewhere in the room. Sitting there not knowing what's going on, he suddenly hears a squeak sound behind him. Turning around, he sees the Parts and Service room just sitting in the middle of darkness. Unable to control himself, Mitch finds himself getting closer to the door until he's right in front of it.
Standing there not doing anything, he feels he has to open the door. As his arm slowly lifts up, he hears something coming from inside. Whispers can be heard like two people talking to each other, but Mitch can't make out what they are saying. Taking hold of the door handle, he turns it and the door slowly opens to nothing but blackness. As he stares at the blackness for a few moments, the emptiness is broken by the eyes of all the masks he saw in the room when he first opened it staring right at him. The orangish yellow glow of the eyes staring at Mitch are enough that Mitch falls over sweeped by fear. Trying to crawl away, he sees another pair of eyes staring at him. But these eyes are blue and seem to have pupils in them. "Friend?" Says a distant voice coming from inside the room.
Finally, Mitch wakes up drenched in sweat and out of breath. "Oh my God. Said Mitch holding his head up feeling dizzy. What on Earth was that?" He says wiping the sweat off his forehead. After a moment, he realizes that he was awoken by the sound of his phone going off. Picking it up, he takes a deep breath and answers.
"Hello?" "Hey Carson, mind explaining to me why you decided to up and leave last night without saying anything?" Says the voice of Will on the other end. "I. ." Says Mitch trying to think of how to explain himself. "Listen, I can understand that you might have been uncomfortable with everything since it was your first night. But if you want to get your pay, I expect you to stay the whole night for the rest of the week. Do I make myself clear?" Says Will. "I. . okay. ." Answers Mitch. "Alright, I'm trying to be nice and cut you some slack. I expect you to try and keep your fear to yourself please." Repeats Will as he hangs up. Even though he hung up already, Mitch keeps the phone up to his ear for another minute before he puts it down.
As Mitch goes about his day, he decides to go out and get something for lunch. Walking to a locale burger joint, he enters the restaurant and gets in line. As he waits, he feels a hand on his shoulder and he jumps so much, he bumps into the person in front of him almost knocking him over. "Hey buddy, what's the deal?" Asks the man turning around looking really angry. "I-I'm s. ." Says Mitch trying to get out the words. "Sorry about that sir, I just scared my friend here too much." Says Bryan walking in front of Mitch. The man gives them both another look like- "Don't let it happen again." And goes back to waiting in line.
"Hey dude, sorry about that. I didn't know you were such a jumper." Says Bryan turning to Mitch and putting his hand on his shoulder again. "No, I. . It's fine. I just wasn't expecting it. Says Mitch trying to play it off. What are you doing here?" He asks him. "Lunch break dude. When you've been working at a pizza joint for over a month you start to get tired of it." Explains Bryan. "I guess." Says Mitch, still a little shaken. "Hey, you okay? I didn't mean to scare you." Says Bryan noticing the fear in Mitch's eyes. "No, it's not that. It's just. . I saw some weird stuff last night that I didn't know to explain." Explains Mitch. "Well, if you want to talk, come over to my table and we can chat." Said Bryan as he walked back to his table to eat.
After ordering his food, Mitch goes to find Bryan's table and sits down with him. "So what's wrong?" Asks Bryan. "Last night, . . I thought I was going crazy when I saw that the Parts and Service room was open. But when I went to close it, it opened all on it's own again. Mitch explains as Bryan listens to him. I heard a sound coming from it and I just couldn't hold in my fear and I ran home." He says. "Whoa, that is weird. Are you sure you were the only one there? Someone could have gotten in?" Suggests Bryan. "No, I had to unlock the door when I was running, so no one got in through there. And none of the windows were broken. I don't know how to explain it." Said Mitch with a serious face.
As Mitch's food arrives, Bryan says to him- "Well, you're going to be hearing from the boss soon." Mitch sighs. "I already got the call from him when I woke up. He told me that if I want to get paid I have to stay the rest of the week." Says Mitch regretting having said yes to going back. "Look man, I had the same feelings when I started working there. But I soon saw that there was nothing to be worried about. Sure, the animatronics are still a little unsettling; but look at me. I'm still working there and I'm totally fine. Says Bryan trying to help Mitch feel better. So I guess the best you can do is swallow that fear and show it your no pushover." He says. "Yeah, your right. I'm being silly. Says Mitch realizing he's being a big baby. Thank you Bryan, you're a really good guy." He thanks him. "That's what friends are for." Says Bryan smiling at him.
That night, the wind is blowing as leaves blow around Mitch's legs as he stands outside the pizzeria looking up at it. As he enters, he looks around and sees a few families still hanging around. As he looks to his left, he sees the same kid from the other day sitting at a table eating a slice of pepperoni pizza.
As Mitch goes over to him, he bends down again and asks- "Hey, sorry if things were a little awkward yesterday. I'm glad to see you enjoying yourself." He says while smiling at him. "When will the fox come back?" Asks the boy again. "Um. . again buddy, I don't know when the fox will be back. But I'm sure it will happen soon." Says Mitch, trying to make the boy smile. No smile, but once again the boy nods okay and goes to play one of the arcade games.
"Hey Carson!" Says a voice coming from across the room. Turning around, Mitch sees Will standing by the Parts and Service room looking really stern. He motions for him to come over. Following his instructions, Mitch walks over to him and waits for what he has to say. "Listen son, from what Bryan told me, you got scared because this door opened by itself am I correct?" He asks Mitch. "That is correct Sir." Says Mitch, feeling a little silly. "Well if that's the case, come with me." Says Will opening the door. A little shaken by this, Will has to give Mitch a little push to get him inside the room.
"There, see? This is all that is in here." Says Will as he shows him what is in the room. Aside from what Mitch already saw. He also sees a bunch of robot arms and legs laying on the table as well as a skeleton looking thing in the corner of the room. "What is that?" Questions Mitch. "That is what is on the inside of our animatronics. Unlike all those years ago, we don't have our employees wear these suits. Instead we have an endoskeleton we program to do all the motions we want them too." Explains Will. Feeling a little better about knowing what was in the room. Mitch goes the rest of the time without feeling any fear.
As dark hits and the street lamps come on, everyone starts to leave until it's just Mitch left. Sitting out in the main room, he looks around the restaurant checking that everything is turned off and that no food was left on the tables. "Well, I'm here. And you know, I guess I really was letting my fear get the best of me." Says Mitch to himself. As he shines his flashlight around the bearly light room, he comes across the curtain that is said to hold the fox animatronic.
Suddenly, a wave of realization comes across Mitch. The fox animatronic was said to be closed up in the Parts and Service room, but when he went in earlier there was no fox. "Nah, nah nah nah. I'm just letting my fear get to me again. Will said that they use those endo things as the bodies for the animatronics. For all I know, that could have been the fox and they're just taking it apart." Says Mitch trying to calm himself again. Getting the thought out of his head, he heads to his office and sits down and turns on the tvs and camera systems. After a few hours, Mitch starts to get tired and is trying not to fall asleep, but combined with the fact that he has to remain awake until sunrise and that he could barely sleep last night it's becoming really hard to stay focused on the cameras. Soon, Mitch's eyes slowly close and he falls back into his chair and passes out.
*Clang* Mitch jolts up and falls out of his chair as a loud metal thud wakes him up from his deep sleep. 'What the hell?" He almost shouts confused and looks around to see what fell. As he gets back up, he rubs the back of his head after hitting it on the hard tile floor. Setting his chair back up, he sits down and turns the cameras back on since they seemed to turn off on their own. As he moves the camera around the pizzeria, he is trying to see if anything has moved that could have made the sound. After seeing nothing, he then turns the camera to look at the Parts and Service room and to his horror the door is now more open then it was the other night.
"Okay, calm down Mitch. This is just a joke. Yeah, these guys are messing with me, pranking the new guy." Says Mitch starting to put two and two together. "This has got to be Bryan or Will or someone. Bryan was the one I told about my experience last night, and he had to tell Mr. Will about it. It has to be one of them." He says now starting to get upset at the idea of it being that. Grabbing his flashlight, he heads out of this office and heads to the room. Flicking on his light, he shines it at the heavy metal door and with no fear in his mind he pushes open the door with one good shove.
"Alright, who's in here?" Says Mitch in a demanding voice as he shines his light around the room. Shining it under the table and checking behind the door, Mitch is confused as nothing is missing or has been moved. "They must have just slammed the door and ran off." Says Mitch as he closes the door. As he turns to go back to his room to review the footage, which in hindsight; he should have done first. But he doesn't even get to step into the hallway to his office before he hears something move in the main room.
Shining his light around the room as fast as he can, he sees the curtain of the littler stage move slightly. "Okay guys, this isn't funny anymore. Come on out." Calls out Mitch. But no one says anything and nothing moves. "Alright fine, I'll come in after you." He says ashe heads over to the stage. As he reaches the curtain, he grabs it and gets ready to pull it back. "Seriously guys, come out of there." He calls out one more time. Nothing. Silence. "Okay, you asked for it." Says Mitch as he pulls back the curtain. The second he does, something red and blurry pushes past him knocking him down and heads back to the Parts and Service room slamming the door behind it. "Okay guys, now I'm really starting to get mad. This joke has gone way too far." Says Mitch as he picks his flashlight back up and gets up off the ground.
Walking back to the Parts and Service room, he reaches for the handle. As he grabs it he tries to push it open, but it won't budge. "The hell? He says confused. Trying to push harder, he has no luck as whatever is blocking the door is so heavy the door won't move an inch. "Guys the joke is over, let me in!" Shouts Mitch really starting to get mad and ramming the door. As he backs up, he braces himself as he rushes at the door ready to push it open. As he makes contact with the door, it swings open with ease. Quickly pulling his light out again, Mitch shines the beam around the room trying to find anyone. As he waves the light over the table, he sees something under it that he knows wasn't there before.
"Hey, who are you? Come on out now." Says Mitch as he bends down and shines his light on the object. As he does, the object is completely red with a bit of light brown on it. Before Mitch can get any closer, the object starts to move as it starts to crawl out from under the table on the other side. As it stands up, it starts to tower over Mitch as he tries to keep his light straight, but he drops it in shock of what is rising up in front of him. As it stops rising, a single orange eye appears and looks right at him. At that moment, a car drives by and it's headlights are enough to light up the room enough for Mitch to see that in front of him is a giant fox animatronic with sharp white glowing teeth. In the few moments of light, he can also make out a hook on it's right hand and an eyepatch over it's right eye as well.
Screaming, Mitch runs for his life back to his room and slams the button on the side to shut the heavy metal doors. Cowering in the corner of the office, Mitch huddles up into a ball and waits for something, anything to happen. After what felt like an hour or so, Mitch opens his eyes once again. As he looks around, the doors are still closed and nothing seems to be in the room with him. Nothing also seems to be trying to get in, so Mitch gets up and slowly walks over to his desk. Sitting down while checking the small windows beside the doors to the room multiple times, he turns the cameras on and starts to look around for whatever it was he saw.
As he flips through the cameras, he finally finds the thing he saw. It was at the main stage, staring at the other animatronics. Switching to a different camera, he's able to see that it's the fox animatronic looking at each of the animatronics. As he looks closer, he could swerve that it looks like it's almost sad. "What the hell is going on? How is this even possible?" Says Mitch scared and confused. As he moves the camera around, the fox animatronic looks up and sees it moving and it seems to get scared of it and runs back to the closed stage where it originally belongs. "Is it scared of me or something?" Wonders Mitch as he switches to another camera angle to see the stage.
After a long wait, the fox animatronic sticks it's head out again and looks around. Slowly stepping it's way out from the curtain, it walks over to the other animatronics again and looks at them once more. "What is he doing?" Says Mitch completely confused now. After watching the fox doing random things for over another hour, it sits down on the edge of it's stage and stares at the ground. "What. . What am I supposed to do about this? What happens if I go out there? It could be trying to kill me. Says Mitch worrying for his life. But, it knew I was here. So it would have killed me when I was asleep right? Or. . . Rrrgh I don't know! I still don't even get how it's up and walking around." Says Mitch irritated by everything going on. "Well, either I stay here for the rest of the night and risk it getting in here, or I go out and see if I can escape through the front door." Says Mitch swallowing any courage he has left in him.
As he gets in front of the door, he takes a second to hit the button to open them. As he does, he peeks his head ever so slowly out to see if it was still sitting on the stage. It was. "Okay, this is my only chance. Gotta make it count." Says Mitch quietly to himself as he slowly walks out into the hallway tiptoeing trying not to make any sound at all. As he makes it to the main room, the animatronic doesn't seem to see him still, so Mitch tries to go a little faster.
Tiptoeing is way to the front door, he fails to notice he didn't secure his flashlight properly and it falls off the hook it's attached too and hits the ground with a thud. Mitch freezes in place feeling like he's about to make a mess in his jeans. Staring right at the fox animatronic, he watches as it lifts its head up and stares at him with it's pursing orange eye. As they stare at each other for a moment, instead of charging at Mitch the fox animatronic bolts into its mini stage and pulls shut the curtains behind him. "What? Says Mitch confused again. Is it really scared of me? He wonders.
Without noticing what he's doing, Mitch takes a few steps forward in the direction of the stage. Stopping, he finds himself questioning himself. "What am I doing? Why am I going toward it? He says slapping himself. Why am I choosing not to run? Why can't I leave it be?" He says finding himself taking another step forward. "I'm really doing this huh?" He says as he arrives at the stage. Standing face to face with the curtain, he looks down and sees that the curtain doesn't go down all the way past the floor of the stage. He could easily bend down and look underneath it. "Why?" Says Mitch in his head as he gets down on his knees. Slowly peeking under the curtain, Mitch sees the fox in the shadows of the stage curled up with it's knees against its chest and his face buried in them and his arms.
"Um hello?" Says Mitch in a very quiet voice. The animatronic looks up and sees him peeking under the curtain and shields his eyes. Suddenly, it speaks. "Please. Please don't hurt me." Says the animatronic. "Wait, you can talk?" Says Mitch shocked. "Ye-yes. Are you here to hurt me?" Asks the animatronic, putting his arms down a little. "No, I mean; are you going to hurt me?" Asks Mitch back. "No. Says the animatronic putting his arms down completely. Who are you?" He asks Mitch. "I'm. . Mitch. Mitch Carson. Answers Mitch. What's your name?" He asks, sounding still very confused. "I think they call me Foxy." Answers the animatronic. "Foxy huh. Um. . . It's nice to meet you?" Says Mitch almost making it sound like a question.
"Um, if you don't mind me asking you a few questions, Says Mitch after a few moments of silence. How in the world are you alive? Are you sentient or something?" He asks. "I. . I don't know. I don't know how this happened to me. I just suddenly woke up one day and I was able to move on my own and talk for myself. Answers Foxy looking miserable. Ever since then, I've been afraid of humans like you finding out that I can think for myself." He continues. "Why?" Asks Mitch, curious. "Because if they do, they might think I am harmful to them and will get rid of me. I've been afraid of them finding out since I came alive." Says Foxy as he stands up.
As he walks out into the main room, Mitch starts to feel very uncomfortable. "Is there something wrong?" Asks Foxy, noticing. "I mean, Says Mitch, taking a few steps to his left. I just don't understand how any of this is possible! None of this makes sense! Shouts Mitch squeezing his head in raged at not being able to wrap his head around any of this. "I'm sorry Mitch, I don't mean to make you upset. I didn't want this either." Says Foxy feeling bad. "Hey look, I'm sorry for getting mad. I just don't know what to think now. I'm talking to a living animatronic, saying that to someone would make me sound like I've gone crazy." Says Mitch apologizing.
"So what will you do now?" Asks Foxy. "I don't know. I want to tell my boss about it. But, I feel like I shouldn't. I mean, you don't seem dangerous. If you were you would have probably killed me on my first night." Says Mitch. "I'm sorry for scaring you last night. I was scared of approaching you." Apologizes Foxy again. "Don't worry about it, I admit I was a little over dramatic about it. I just wasn't expecting any of this." Says Mitch.
As they both go to sit down on some chairs in the main room, Mitch sits on the other side of the table and a few chairs down away from Foxy, still a little nervous. "I don't blame you for being scared. I'm a little scared of myself since I don't know anything about how this happened to me." Says Foxy knowing why he's sitting away from him. "Sorry." Says Mitch feeling bad.
"So how do you think you came alive?" Asks Mitch. "I don't know, the thought never crossed me. Says Foxy thinking. I can't think of anything though. Not that anything would probably make sense." Answers Foxy. "Maybe your creator did something to you, do you know who made you?" Suggests Mitch. "No, I haven't been alive for that long actually. I think it's only been about two maybe three weeks since I came alive. I don't know much about myself or anyone who could be related to how I am here now." Says Foxy as he twists his hook hand around.
Over the next hour and a half, Mitch continues to talk to Foxy about ideas as to how he could have come to life. But every idea just doesn't seem to make sense to either of them. Soon, the time comes for Mitch to leave before everyone else arrives for work that day. "I'm sorry, I have to leave now." Says Mitch seeing the sun coming up over the buildings from across the street. "It's okay. I hope you won't quit because of me. I actually like having someone to talk to." Says Foxy. "Are you the only one that is alive? I should have asked that earlier, but I haven't seen any of the other animatronics move." Wonders Mitch looking at the other three animatronics on the main stage. "No, I am the only one. I felt so alone here, being locked up in the Parts and Service room, no one else that I would be able to talk to. But now I have you to talk too, and it feels nice; like we are friends in a way." Says Foxy. "Well, I. . I don't see why we can't be. It's not like it's the law not to be friends with animatronics, you're definitely no ordinary animatronic though. So, if you want, I can be your friend." Says Mitch trying to help Foxy feel happy. "Thank you Mitch, I'd like that." Says Foxy, feeling better.
Soon, after getting home and having a long nap. Mitch wakes up and starts to think about Foxy again, and how it's possible for an animatronic to have sentient thoughts. Then, he gets an idea to check the history of the building and the surrounding area of the pizzeria. Going on his laptop, he looks up the name of the street and the building number. As he goes through the history of the street he doesn't find much. He does find something about there once being another pizzeria that was just down the street before the one he works at was even built, but he can't seem to find any other information about that, not even a name for the building. "Man, I still don't get this. How is Foxy alive?" Says Mitch as he sets his laptop down. "Maybe I can find something on the computers at the pizzeria tonight.
That night, Mitch arrives at work on time and manages to catch Bryan and a friend of his just as they are leaving work. "Hey Mitch, good to see you're still alive." Jokes Bryan. "He, yeah. Sorry if I'm a little late." He says. "Don't worry about it, you're not late at all." Says Bryan reassuring him. "Hey, did you do anything to the fox animatronic last night?" Asks Bryan's friend. "Um no, Why?" Asks Mitch worried that he might have been found out. "Well, when we opened the door to get something today it looked like the animatronic had moved to a different spot then when we left it." Says the friend. "No, I didn't touch it." Says Mitch hoping they don't suspect anything. "It has been a while since we went in there last, we probably just forgot the way we positioned it." Says Bryan. "I guess." Says his friend. "Well, I should get in there. Don't want to make Mr. Will mad." Says Mitch trying to hurry and end the conversation. "Good luck dude. Night." "Bye." Says Bryan and his friend as they walk away and get into a car and drive off.
Soon as everyone is gone, Mitch goes to the Parts and Service room and knocks on the door. "Foxy? Are you in there?" He calls out from the other side. "Mitch?" Says a voice as the door opens. Peeking in, Mitch sees Foxy hiding in the corner of the room behind some stacked boxes. "Hey, I hope I didn't scare you." Says Mitch as he closes the door in case someone sees him. "It's fine, I was hoping you would come back again." Says Foxy as he stands up. "Listen, I tried to find anything on the internet about this place but I couldn't find anything. So, tonight I'm going to try and see if I can figure something out on the computers here." Says Mitch opening the door again. "Sounds good to me." Says Foxy as they both walk out of the room.
As they exit the room, they hear something and look outside the window and see a car stop outside the pizzeria. "Oh no, I think that's Mr. Will's car. Quick, go back in there." Says Mitch holding the door open for Foxy. Feeling very scared, Foxy scrambles into the room and Mitch shuts the door and runs to his office before Will can go in. As Will enters the pizzeria, he looks around to see if Mitch is around. Not seeing him, he heads down the other hallway that leads to his office and Mitch's security room. Walking up to the glass, he looks inside and sees Mitch sitting at his desk looking at the security cameras. He then looks up and sees Will looking in through the windows and waves at him.
"Hi Sir, what brings you here at this hour?" Asks Mitch almost out of breath and trying to act like nothing's wrong. "Just forgot I had to do something in my office, I shouldn't be long. Explains Will as he gets his keys out to unlock the door. Also, I'm happy to see you not letting your fear get the better of you. Remember there is nothing here to worry about." He adds as he goes to his office. As Mitch watches him go to his office, he realises that he doesn't have access to the restaurant's info in the security room. He would have to go into Will's office to get it.
Soon, Will comes out of his office and locks it behind him before he comes over to Mitch's office and says goodnight to him. "Alright Carson, I'm heading home. Take care of the place, and don't do anything stupid." He said, saying the last part seriously. "Right, goodnight." Says Mitch as he waves goodbye to Will as he leaves. As he watches Will leave from the cameras, he gets up and heads to Will's office to try and open it. Not surprised he locked it, he tries all the keys he was given but none of them work and Mitch sighs. "Guess I'll have to try something else." Says Mitch.
Going to open the Parts and Service room again, he finds Foxy hiding behind the stacked boxes again. "Hey Foxy, you can come out now he's gone." Says Mitch. "Are you sure? Is it really safe?" Asks Foxy peeking his head out. "Trust me, you're safe now." Says Mitch assuring him. As he comes out into the main room, he looks around making sure for himself that no one is around. "Sorry, I almost got us caught." Says Foxy. "No you didn't silly. Will didn't see you at all." Says Mitch trying to cheer him up. "If you say so." Says Foxy.
"Did you find anything?" He asks. "No, I think the only way I'm going to find anything is if I get into Will's office." Says Mitch upset he couldn't do anything. Trying to think of a way to get into Will's office without asking for the key, Mitch can't think of anything that would work without getting caught. Then he looks over in Foxy's direction, looking all over him he stares at his hook hand. Then, it clicks. "I think I've got an idea." He says as he asks Foxy if he can borrow his hook.
After managing to get it off, Mitch takes the hook and they both stand in front of Will's office. "Are you sure this is going to work?" Asks Foxy having doubt. "One way to find out." Says Mitch as he takes the sharp end of the hook and sticks it in the lock and starts to wiggle it around. After what seemed like forever, a small *click* sound is heard. "I did it. I really did it." Says Mitch surprised and happy with himself. "Are you sure this is a good idea?" Asks Foxy as Mitch hands him his hook back. "This might be the only way we can figure out how you came to be." Says Mitch. "Okay, I guess you have a point." Agrees Foxy as they open the door and step in.
Turning on the lights, the office doesn't seem strange in any way. A couple pictures hang on the walls, a bookshelf with books and binders of files Mitch assumes. A potted plant in one corner of the room and a desk with a computer and keyboard on it as well as a name plate and some papers. "I guess we'll try the computer first." Says Mitch as he walks over to the computer and sits down. As Foxy waits by the door, he gets a feeling of worry. But that feeling is soon replaced with a feeling of anger. "Foxy? Are you okay?" Asks Mitch noticing Foxy acting odd. "I. . .I don't know. I feel weird." Foxy says as he puts his hand on his head feeling like it's pounding. "Well, just hold on. I'm trying to see if I can find anything." Says Mitch worrying for him.
As Mitch goes through the company's data, he comes across the record book of all it's workers. Curious, he clicks on it and pulls up a page of pictures with names under all of them. Seeing his name at the top for the more recently hired, the one below it seems to catch his eye. It's a picture of a man that seemed to be the same age as Mitch, maybe just a bit older. "Derick Cooper?" Says Mitch reading out the name. Remembering back to when he met all the other employees on his first day, none of them resembled the man in the picture at all. Under his name it read- Fired. "Why? Why was this guy fired?" Wonders Mitch.
Then he remembers something else, a while back when he was just about to graduate from college; a story about a man with the same name had been going around at his campus that he was missing. "Is this really the same guy? But if he went missing, why would it say he was fired? Did he get fired and run away?" Wonders Mitch trying to figure this out.
Suddenly someone from behind Foxy knocks him down to the floor. "Foxy!" Says Mitch jumping up and running over to him. Before he can help him up, he looks up and sees his boss Will standing in the doorway with a frying pan in one hand and a knife in the other. "Carson, get behind me now." He orders. "Wait Mr. Will, Foxy isn't dangerous. He's my friend." Says Mitch getting in front of Foxy. "Carson listen to me, there is a reason we kept that thing locked up. It's broken and needs to be scrapped." Says Will as he points the knife at them both. "No! He's not broken, he's. . Just confused!" Says Mitch. "Carson, for the last time, get behind me!" Says Will again with more anger in his voice.
As the two of them continue to argue, Foxy stagers to his knees holding his head as he tries to focus his thoughts. But suddenly, everything starts to come back to him. Everything about who he is and what happened to him. Looking behind him, he sees Will and he remembers who did it to him.
"You! You did this to me!" Says Foxy as he gets up and points his hook at Will. "See Carson, this thing has gone crazy! Now step aside and let me take care of this!" Orders Will as he takes a step closer to them. "Mitch, don't listen to him. It's his fault this happened to me." Says Foxy looking at Mitch. "What?" Says Mitch confused. "Don't listen to him Carson!" Says Will as he tries to throw the pan in his hand at Foxy. Acting quick, Foxy swats the pan away before it can hit either of them. "Foxy, what's wrong?" Asks Mitch, still very confused. "I'm not an animatronic, I'm a human like you. My name is Derick Cooper, and I was the one who had your job before you." Says Foxy.
"What? Says Mitch in utter shock. What are you talking about? Who are you?" He asks Foxy. "Three weeks ago, I used to work at this pizzeria as it's night guard. My boss Mr. Will was trying to find ways to get more money, and decided to turn to reducing payments so he could keep his excuse of a restaurant afloat. Explains Foxy keeping his eye locked on Will as he continues to hold his knife out at them. I was the first one to get docked, and I was not happy with it. I barged into his office to ask him not to do it but he said his mind was made up. We then started to argue, until things got out of hand. Says Foxy as he remembers back to the moment his life shattered all around him.
"Come on Sir, you can't seriously think that I'm going to take this, let alone anyone else's pay you reduce?" Says a flashback version of Derick. "Listen to me son, my mind is made up and you are not changing it anytime soon. Now if you would please, I have more work to do." Says a flashback version of Mr. Will. "Like hell I'm going to leave this alone. I hope your whole business goes up in flames!" Says Derick as he knocks over a chair. "Cooper, stop making a scene of yourself." Says Will trying to calm him down. "A scene, you're showing me that the only thing you care about is keeping this place going! You don't care about any of us!" Says Derick grabbing a hold of Will. "Let go of me!" Says Will as they rustle for a few moments until Will manages to push Derick off him.
But when he does, Derick trips over the chair he tossed over and falls backward hitting the back of his head on the edge of the desk next to them. "Cooper? Enough of this, get up and get out of here!" Orders Will as Derick lays on the ground motionless. "Cooper? Says Will starting to worry. Cooper? Hey, listen to me! Hey!" Says Will as he bends down and lifts him up to try and get a response from him.
"He killed me. Says Foxy as they enter reality again. And what does he do? Stuffs my body in an animatronic suit instead of calling the police." He says. In complete horror of what he's hearing, Mitch almost falls over as his legs feel like they are turning to jelly. "Mitch? Says Will looking at him. Don't listen to him. He's crazy, I would never do something like that to anyone." He claims. "Lies! Shouts Foxy. You said it yourself when Mitch first got here. You're not letting this place go without a fight. You're not ready to let go of this place yet, you're so fixated on it you're willing to even kill someone and not tell anyone about it just so you can keep it open! He shouts. My life may be over, but my soul is still here not ready to let go of revenge." Says Foxy, taking a step closer to Will as he takes a step back.
"It makes sense, Says Mitch. How this job just popped up out of nowhere, why Foxy is alive. He says as he looks at Will with disgust. To think I thought you were such a nice guy, your nothing but a monster!" He shouts. "Fine, it's true. This pizzeria had been my dream for years now. I'd do anything to keep it running. Anything except kill a man. I didn't mean to do it Derick, it was an accident." Says Will trying to reason with Derick. "And hiding my body in an animatronic and lying to the police is the better idea?" Says Foxy as his eye starts to glow brighter.
"It's over Will, you're done." Says Mitch as he goes to grab the phone and call the police. "No!" Shouts Will as he goes to stab Foxy. Without thinking, Mitch shoves Foxy out of the way to take the knife for him. "Mitch!" Shouts Foxy as he looks up to see Will pushing the knife deep into Mitch's chest. After a moment, Will realizes what he did and lets go of the knife. Unable to stand properly, Mitch falls on his butt and lays back against the desk as his uniform starts to get darker and darker. "You!" Says Foxy as he stands up and looks at Will with an evil look. "It. . it was an accident. I didn't want to kill him." Says Will. "It's too late for excuses Will." Says Foxy as he lets out a horrifying shriek and lunges at Will.
As Will rushes out of the room, he makes a dash for the exit, but Foxy is too fast for him and he catches up in no time. As Mitch lays there on the ground coughing, it starts to get hard for him to breath. Slowly, the room starts to get very blurry until he very slowly shuts his eyes. As a faint scream can be heard from outside of the room, the night goes quiet once next morning, police and ambulances have arrived and are flooding the street. As the police set up caution tape around the perimeter of the building, people gather around to see what happened.
As they gather around, Mitch is watching them from the other end of the block just watching them. "That was not what I was expecting to happen during my first job." He says as the wind blows around him. "Life is full of surprises." Says another voice behind him. As he turns around, Derick is looking at him, but he is human once again. "I guess you're right. What now?" Asks Mitch as Derick walks up next to him. "Next? Well, that's something we will have to find out for ourselves." Says Derick as he puts his hand on Mitch's shoulder. As they watch the ambulance guys bring out two body bags on stretchers, Mitch sighs. "At least I have a friend to find out with." Says Mitch as he smiles at Derick. As they leave the actions from the pizzeria behind them, a light appears behind them and they both disappear into it. Meanwhile, as the crowds of people watch the police take the body bags away; a dark shadow disappears into a nearby alleyway. End.
