Introduction: Hey this is Maestro with a small disclaimer and authors note. The begining of this story is going to introduce the four OCs in this story almost like the color trailers of RWBY. I know some people don't enjoy stories with OCs as the main characters so I wanted to be upfront. Please leave reviews so I can use the constructive criticism to improve. On with the prologue.
Prologue
In a formless void in the center beyond existence and form. In the abyss of nothing are two pairs of eyes glowing brighter than suns. The first pair tilts down as if gesturing to the other "the heart of a god crys out, we must intervene". They begin to swirl about the void as if searching for something in the abyss of nothing. " Omega come with me, I am not as young as I used to be, and I could use the assistance."
The other pair of eyes seems to roll "my lord if you intervene someone may survive without justification." The pair of eyes refered to as Omega float until they are once more beside the the other pair. "You can't intercede directly my lord Alpha, you can still see that right?"
The the shining eyes of Alpha gaze down disapprovingly before responding "your input is appreciated, however you are too avant-garde about the suffering of the little ones." Alpha lowers until it is level with Omega "Just because the easy route is closed to you doesn't mean there aren't smaller ways to help."
The lower set of eyes lower submissively "I meant nothing my lord, but my point remains that you can't interfere directly."
Omega looks beyond all things for a brief moment. "Focus your eyes my lord and I am certain you will see it as well."
Alpha's eyes looks in to the infinite for a beat, then two "I see the world and you are right, my direct interference would cause untold damage." Alpha's eyes turn away from Omega in contemplation. "That means our options would be limited."
The eyes of Omega shine victoriously before speaking "very good my lord, now we should return to observing this world, perhaps in time we can formulate a plan to deal with it's issues" Omega floats around Alpha to be eye to eye once more but widen in surprise once Alpha's are once more in view. "M-my Lord?"
Alpha's shine mischievously "thus it is only proper for me to select champions to battle on my behalf, that way mortals save mortals and all is right in existence".
Alpha floats about excitedly before settling down. "Omega if I select champions I can fix this without breaking it further."
Omega's eyes widen in surprise before settling to a more neutral expression "if that is your will my lord." Omega floats to it's lord's side before turning to Alpha with a touch of concern. "Did I hear you correctly, champions, as in more then one?"
Alpha looks away before his eyes flash and portals open all around the void, then he begins quickly flying around scanning each one "yes you heard correctly, multiple champions are necessary for my goal, It has been some time since I created any life but I believe the same principles will hold true for building a team." Alpha begins to dismiss individuals and portals begin to vanish "A heart, a body, a mind, and a shadow. The principles of the soul, this is what we seek."
Omega's eyes turn grey as they fly to catch up in the void "my lord that was a very difficult process and not one you want to resume in haste, besides you would be building from disparate pieces instead of working from scratch." Omega peeks in to each portal before alpha closes them. "We won't be able to find precisely what we need for such a delicate balance within multiple mortals."
Alpha's eyes shine brighter than before while it continues continue to pivot between portals before stopping as all but four of them vanish once more in to the aether "you have a point but I have already found the necessary components for my team." Alpha turns to regard Omega thoughtfully "That is the beautiful thing about mortals, rarely are they precisely what you want, but they are often exactly what you need."
Omega's gray eyes flick between the portals before locking with Alpha's bright eyes "if that is your decision my lord I stand ready to assist, what are your directions?" Omega floats in front of the portals ready to make preparations.
Alpha's brilliantly bright eyes settle on the first portal before it's ageless voice responds "prepare a temporal rift in the void for them to fill in the interim, then ready yourself for travel in the lower realms." Alpha floats in to the first portal while Omega carries out the instructions before quickly following behind.
Heart
Outside Kyoto Japan, 1936
The eyes now existing on the side of a tree observing a cliff side. A woman with black hair pulled back in to a long ponytail
and a katana at her hip. Although the most striking aspect of her appearance is a billowing white cloak with an exaggerated collar. Her Hakama and Cloth tunic, each set in dark colors are ripped and tattered, showing splotches of crimson. As the eyes look on, she sits with her back against a grave stone a unopened bottle of saki next to her. Her mouth barely moves as words flow out in a soft tone "Master it appears I will soon be joining you. The army will be upon me once more within the hour, and they have moved beyond simply sending a battalion to take me, they have learned that lesson well."
Both eyes dart away from her to focus on two soldiers rushing towards her. They stop and raise their rifles "throw away your swo-" the woman disappears before reappearing behind them with her sword drawn fifteen meters from where she had been sitting a heartbeat prior. Blood spurts from their necks as their heads slowly slide off and fall to the ground, before being followed by their bodies slumping down as well. The gray eyes widen in surprise before the woman slowly turns around and walks back to the gravestone. She lifts the bottle of Saki over the stone "Master it appears the.time has come for me to join you, until we meet again your drinks are on me" she opens the bottle and tilts it over, drenching the stone with the rice wine.
Both eyes turn as the sound of a multitude approaching can be heard. Hundreds of soldiers come through the tree line with rifles raised, aimed directly at the woman. She turns around to face the arrayed soldiers before sheathing her sword and lowering her stance with her hand hovering an inch from her hilt. The soldiers open fire as the woman vanishes before appearing in their midst, she draws her katana while spinning, killing several of them. The soldiers frantically turn and continue firing as the woman begins moving once more, becoming a blur of death. A few shots find their mark, most do not. Each missed shot wounding or killing an ally.
The soldier closest to her aims his rifle at her head but she uses the flat of her blade to turn the barrel as he fires, causing the shot to hit one of his comrades before she brings the blade back across to behead him. She ducks under the bayonet of another and tenses her muscles like a coiled spring before rising sharply bringing the blade of her katana to his chin. As he falls she becomes a blur once more.
The gray eyes look towards the bright eyes "we may have to look elsewhere as it appears she might not be meant to fall this day my lord." several more can be seen being cut down like little more than wheat before a reapers scythe. "She appears to be overwhelming them."
The battle continues as the bright eyes follow the action closely "If that is what you see I suggest you look again young one, the opposite is the reality." Alpha takes notice as she is unable to avoid all of the shots. Alpha's eyes flash as a shot takes her in the upper abdomen "it is time."
The woman reappears at the cliffs edge, her clothing sporting several new bullet holes complete with matching bullet wounds. Her breathing is ragged and coming in huffs, as she looks on the remaining soldiers trying to reorganize with half their numbers laying dead or dying in the dust. The survivors raise their rifles towards the woman once more. She twists her mouth in to a pained smile before leaping back and plunging down to the water and rocks below. The soldiers open fire as the two pairs of eyes vanish from the tree they had been resting on. Unseen by the soldiers the woman vanishes in to a vortex just before reaching the waiting rocks.
Once more in the void
The woman opens her eyes in surprise, whirling about in the aether trying to determine her location. After a moment of confusion she realizes her wounds are healed and her clothing is undamaged. I suppose I should be thankful that I don't remember hitting the rocks. So this is Yomi...it is a little different than I expected she thinks to herself.
She is startled when she sees two pairs of eyes appear in front of her, jerking back in surprise. The brighter pair flash before it's words are heard, all but taking form in the void "Greetings and welcome swordsman, I have selected you to be one of my champions. First I would like to know your name." It's ageless benign voice putting her a bit more at ease.
The woman glances between the bright eyes and the seemingly silent gray eyes before responding "I am Hiko Seijuro the fourteenth, master of the Hiten Mitsurugi style." Hiko gives a respectful bow.
The gray eyes move closer so they are nose to proverbial nose "my lord asked your name, not your title." The gray eyes narrow dangerously as it's voice drips with offense on it's lord's behalf.
Hiko moves her head back from the eyes seemingly not liking the proximity "they are one and the same, Now I would like to know whom I am speaking with." She takes a more defensive stance now her arms crossed. "Or is that more than I am permitted to ask."
The gray eyes flash maliciously before floating back to the side of it's master "my lord is under no obligation to give his name to a mere mortal." The gray eyes pause for a moment when the bright eyes lock on them before lowering in acquiescence.
The bright eyes focus on Hiko "You may call me Alpha, my servant you may call Omega." Both eyes nod respectfully before Alpha speaks once more "You will have to forgive Omega, we have not communed with a mortal in ages."
Hiko looks between them both before floating in to a seated position closing her eyes to think a moment These two must be either be demons or gods, I'll play along since I really dont have anything to lose. She moves through though the air to something resembling a standing position "What would be expected of me as your champion?"
Alpha floats around her before stopping in front of her once more "punish the evil and protect the innocent, mostly the same thing you have been doing." Alpha locks eyes with her solemnly "I would not ask anything unduly objectionable of you."
I would be a fool to refuse this deal, I will accept...perhaps I can continue to use master's teachings to better the world. Hiko looks at Alpha before nodding her head "If those are the terms then I accept them. In exchange for my life I will protect the innocent with my blade."
Alpha's eyes flash as Hiko falls in to a deep slumber "Omega store her in a temporal rift until it is time, we have three more to gather." Omega's eyes close and lower as if the shapeless form were bowing "of course my lord."
