January
As the New Year rolled in and I kissed my wife, I remembered the first time our lips touched, four years ago. I knew right then that I had finally met the love of my life, even if I honestly believed I would never find love again after my now ex-girlfriend of three years cheated on me with my best friend. To this day, I never spoke to either of them again.
When I met Rose, almost a year later, I fell in love with her smile, her empathic eyes, her sense of humor and her ambition. She was a lawyer and partner at the biggest law firm in Washington, DC. As a successful dentist with my own cabinet, I needed someone with as much passion for work than me. We moved in together a year later, renting a one-bedroom apartment in West End. Each day, we fell more and more in love and I eventually asked her to marry me.
Two years later, here I was, kissing her in the middle of the crowd who gathered for the fireworks of Georgetown Waterfront. She was the prettiest sight of the night and I made sure to tell her that.
"I love you," she said as we pulled away. "Happy New Year."
"I love you too," I replied. "May this year bring everything we hope for."
"I'm sure it will."
We had been trying for a baby for the past six months but had not been successful yet. It was the next big step in our life together and we were more than ready for it. After buying the house of our dreams a year ago, then a sweet Goldendoodle puppy, we knew that children were the next thing on the list. We were both an only child, so we hoped to have a big family. Rose wanted three children, I wanted four. But honestly, for now, we only hoped for one.
We opened a bottle of wine once we were home and cuddled on the couch, enjoying each other's company. Rose looked at me, her eyes tired but shiny, and I smiled down at her. She craned her neck to kiss me and I kissed her back, my fingers intertwined in her red curls. I could taste the wine but also the desire on her tongue and I took the glass from her hand to put it down on the coffee table. I lay her down on the couch with my body pressed against hers and her fingers unbuttoned my shirt as I nuzzled her neck.
As we lay there together, tangled under a blanket, I buried my face in her freshly shampooed hair. She smelled so good and I always thought so. She sighed softly, and I knew she was as happy as I was. I loved the feeling of her naked body against mine, our curves and hollows joining in all the right places. Two pieces of a puzzle.
"Do you think it's possible to be this happy forever?" she whispered to me, sending shivers to my spine.
"With you in my life? I can't see how I couldn't be." I admitted, sending a small smile to her face. "You're the love of my life," I said before capturing her delicate lips with mine, feeling her arms tightening around me.
We made love again, tenderly, and after more talking, she fell asleep in my arms. Her soft breathing on my chest tickled its way into my heart and I could feel it pounding, ready to explode. I studied every line and feature of her left hand with my fingers, even though I already knew her by heart, and finally fell asleep as well.
It's been a long time since I posted but I've had the idea of this story randomly one night so here it is! I hope you will like it.
