This Story Takes Place in Rural America in the made up County of Rohan. Starters are considered rare Pokémon, the normal rules of evolution such as friendship, evolution stones, and experience will still be in play, but trade evolutions will not exist. Instead, trade evolutions are made to be friendship evolutions (these can occur in the wild)
As the light has just begun to shine through the curtains on a cool Saturday morning, James laid in a peaceful slumber, until an all too familiar knock rang from across the house.
"Helloooooo! JAAAAAMES!" The voice screamed, interrupting the peace.
Though, it wasn't long into being ignored that the person began to knock louder. The serenity of early morning suddenly depleted. Despite all the noise James managed to sleep until his parents let John inside. Groggy voices can be heard from the living room where John was now standing.
"Thanks Uncle Ron, is James still asleep?" The groggy voices can be heard replying... "Well, I guess he isn't anymore. Thanks again." He spoke before immediately bursting through James' bedroom door.
"Oooooh Jaaaay! Do you know what today is? Do ya! Do ya! Do ya! Huh! Huh! Huh!" The now eleven year old said excitedly.
As James now said up, he began to rub his eyes as he spoke. "Of course I know what today is... you haven't let me forget it for the past. Wait, what time even is it? The now annoyed James said as he picked up his phone. "Six in the morning! You don't even get your Pokémon til 12! Why are you waking everyone so early. Does Uncle Dave even know you're over here?"
"Of course he does. I was so excited I woke him up early and he sent me over here so y'all would suffer too."
"Fine, I'm going back to bed, wake me up at eleven thirty so I can come with you when you finally get your starter." James's voice slowly trailed off as he lay back under the blankets.
"Will do Jay..." John whispered as he quietly left the room.
-Time Skip-
It was finally eleven thirty and John was ready to make sure James knew it. Within a moment of the digital clock changing to those beloved numbers, John was already rushing to James' room where he loudly burst into the room.
"Jaaaaaay! It's eleven thirty! Get up and come on. You need to eat before we go."
James shot up from the bed as the racket immediately started. Now, that it was fully right he could finally see his new room. He spent yesterday at his Uncle Dave's playing various games with John while his parents moved into the new, smaller, home. As he looked around his new dwelling, the dirtied beige walls immediately stuck out to him. "If only they didn't go bankrupt. We wouldn't have had to sale the old place. I wonder if it had to do with those people in white and black outfits." He thought to himself as a frown formed upon his face.
"Huh? What's wrong Jay?" John asked his best friend.
"Well, I'm just thinking about how good the new place is." He had just lied to his best friend.
"Jay, I can tell when you're lying to me. Tell me what's really on your mind."
"I keep thinking of those people in the black and white outfits. Every time they came into the old daycare mom and dad would send me out, or dad would stand in front of me."
John sat down beside his cousin "Daddy says to avoid those people, but I don't know why. Either way, I'm gonna go home and eat. By the way, they're waiting on you to come in and eat."
"Alright, I'll be there in a minute." James said as John was already walking out the door. "I wonder what happened to all those Pokémon in the daycare. I hope they're all alright." He said to himself as he stood up. As he got dressed in a fresh set of clothes he couldn't seem to shake the feeling something was watching him. He searched all around the room, but found nothing so he brushed it off and began to walk to the kitchen. Meanwhile, a Gastly appeared above his bed where he had just been.
James walked into the kitchen, greeted by his parents Pokémon. His dad had a Herdier, and his mom had a Liepard. Despite being a cat and dog, the two got along just fine.
"Good morning." James said to his parents.
"Good afternoon." His dad corrected solemnly.
"I'll still say good morning." His mom said as she set three rather tiny portions of eggs on the table.
"I'll get the forks." James spoke as he walked over to the utensil drawer. He opened it and grabbed three forks before heading to the table to give them to everyone.
"Thanks." Both of his parents said accepting the forks and beginning to eat. James noticed they ate slowly, but payed no mind to it until he noticed that he had a bigger portion of eggs than them.
"Is something wrong? Y'all don't have ver-" He was cut off.
"Nothing is wrong!" His dad yelled.
"Uh, okay..." he trailed off. James couldn't remember a time when he saw his dad raise his voice, it scared him, and the Gastly that was watching noticed.
After the outburst the family ate in silence for the rest of their "meal" until James finally worked up the courage to speak again.
"Is everyone ready to go? We need to get going so we can watch John choose."
"Yeah I think we're both ready." His mom spoke.
"Then let's head out." James said getting up from the table.
This is the end of chapter 1. I hope everyone that reads enjoys.
