Chapter 01
Their Origins
"Shoto Todoroki-kun, what do you want to be when you grow up?"
"...I want to… become a hero..."
"Right! That's very admirable of you! Well then… what about you, Shiranui Aizawa-chan? Do you want to be a hero, too?"
"...I don't know..."
Fall, Late November
It is all over the news.
The attack this morning near the train station, that is. Her male classmates are all over the moon when Mt. Lady appeared to save the day. Even inside the classroom, the boys are gathered in a small circle, with their phones in their hands and gushing over the Minemata Hero. It is somewhat an endearing scene—teenage boys admiring Mt. Lady and her gigantification Quirk. Not to mention the voluptuous figure. She blushed when she heard her classmates, and then turned away.
"Turning into a monster? Now that's an awful Quirk!"
She turns towards the window to her left, with the azure skies calm and clear. How she wishes she could soar through those beautiful skies—like Hawks. His Quirk is what she admires the most: fierce crimson wings of steel. Suitable for fight and flight. But what does she have instead?
Her thoughts are stopped short when the chair in front of her scrapes backwards. Peeking from the corner of her eye, she observes the boy take his seat, quiet as always, with his white-and-red hair swaying over his neck. Even as all the boys are still fanboying over Mt. Lady, this one is quiet, reserved, with a world of his own.
His Quirk, too. She likes his Quirk. Ice is beautiful under the sunlight, though she never really sees him at work except for their Quirk assessment classes during P.E.
"Okay, that's enough, everyone!"
Their homeroom teacher, Hasegawa-sensei, closes the door behind her. Her golden blonde is tied up into a neat, professional bun, her blouse and skirt in place, and… her long fox tail swaying from left to right. She glares at her students one by one, as if looking for troubles.
When there's none, she smiles and says, "Alright! Let's get our morning started!"
The class starts its routine: morning lessons, a break for snacks, some more afternoon lessons, lunchbreak, and then, more lessons, and finally, home. To be honest, which junior high school student does not look forward to that bell ringing and dashing outside to go home? The clock at the head of the room couldn't tick any faster. Now that makes her wonder—is there a Quirk that could influence time?
This is getting tiresome. She pulls out her journal and starts flipping to the page where she left off. Ah, there it is. It's the part where the hero saves his friend-slash-romantic interest from a villain. Cliché? Absolutely. Does it entertain her enough to pass the time in a boring class? Heck yeah.
She rests her chin on the heel of her palm and starts scribbling in her journal. She needs to add more action scenes in this chapter, so that her main character could show off his Quirk. She steals at a glance to the boy before her, her lips pursed, before scribbling some more.
"What about you, Aizawa-san?" Hasegawa-sensei calls her out.
She stares dumbfounded at her teacher.
"Can you share your opinion to class?"
"Ugh..." She flips through the pages of the book, trying to seem that she was listening.
"Your favorite hero," a quiet voice comes from in front of her. "She's asking about your favorite hero."
Right.
She stands up straight, her gloved hands flat on the wooden desk.
"My favorite hero is the Erasure Hero: Eraser Head. He may not be as famous as All Might, or as rich and powerful as Endeavor, but he is a hero not to be reckoned with. With his Erasure Quirk, he could nullify the villains' Quirk and use that little amount of time to subdue and apprehend them with his close combat abilities."
Hasegawa-sensei nods thoughtfully. "I suppose you speak from experience, Shiranui-san?"
Shiranui takes her seat. "I might as well be his biggest fan," she states blandly.
The class then resumes as normal. Shiranui sighs in relief and glances up front. The boy is not talking to her anymore. He doesn't even acknowledge the fact that he helped her or the fact that this is the first time he ever spoke to her. When she feels she won't get any semblance of recognition from him, she backs down and continues scribbling in her notes. This, too, is a noteworthy addition to her story.
Thirty minutes to dismissing the class, Hasegawa-sensei makes one final announcement.
"I am excited to tell you guys that the school administration decided to hold our first ever Winter Quirk Festival before the winter break starts!"
There is a sudden buzz of excitement going through the class, and the teacher claps her hands to resume order.
"Now, now! Let me explain first! All students are required to participate in the contest. All of you must partner in pairs and use your Quirks to make a flashy presentation! Combine your Quirks! Be creative and resourceful! You all have one month to prepare for the contest. The pairs must give me their names by the end of this week. And with that, you're all dismissed!"
She is not even outside the door yet when the students start yelling and looking for their partners. It is a complete chaos in the classroom, boys and girls simply grabbing each other by the shoulders or pushing the other off. A particular large group swarm over to the leftmost corner of the room, huddled in front of the quietest boy.
"Todoroki-kun, Todoroki-kun, pair up with me!" a girl with pigtails all but begs him.
"Choose me, Todoroki-kun!"Another girl jumps up and down. "My water Quirk will match with your ice for sure!"
"I can make your ice look really cool with lightning, Todoroki-san!"
"Todoroki-kun, please go out with me!"
This is getting a bit too noisy. Shiranui rolls her eyes and stands up. She gets swarmed by more people, pushing her away from her desk so they could all gather like vultures around the quiet boy. She slings her backpack over her shoulders and walks to the door.
There is a sudden silence that falls around the large group, and, in her curiosity, she pauses with her hand on the knob and looks back.
"I'm sorry, everyone." Todoroki's voice is soft and serene. "But I already chose my partner."
There is a collective "aww" from the crowd. Everyone's shoulders slump, as if their hopes and dreams have shattered around them.
"Who did you pick, Todoroki-kun?" one of the girls asks.
His eyes, gray on the right and turquoise on the left, is locked upon Shiranui's eyes.
Her home is not too far from her school. About a ten-minute of train ride, and five-minute walk throughout the quiet streets of a subdivision. The sun is steadily sinking behind the tall buildings, and its reddish glow spills over the pavements and throws a long shadow behind her. She likes how quiet and peaceful it is, away from those villains and their evil deeds.
"I'm home!" she singsongs at the threshold, even though she knows no one is here.
The house is quiet. Nothing new with that. She takes off her shoes at the entrance door and proceeds upstairs. No many furniture anywhere, really. A small couch and coffee table, a TV set, and bookshelf. Her father is a minimalist, a fancy and modern term for lazy.
Her own room is almost the same—with a queen-sized bed and a desk with lamp in the corner, a dresser, a tall bookshelf for her books and journals. Her bed is adorned with several stuffed toys—a panda bear, an elephant, a shark, and many more. Her most beloved would be the stuffed white tiger, already withered gray over time with its stitches ragged.
A sword pinned on the wall dominates the right corner of her room. A Christmas gift from a time long ago. The edges of the blade remain sharp, never been used but for decoration.
She proceeds to the kitchen to prepare dinner for herself, and probably her father, if he even comes home tonight.
"I could make him even faster", she mumbles to herself during dinner. She has chopsticks in her left hand and a pen in her right hand. "No, if I do, he'd be too powerful for the plot."
She groans and sighs. She stares at her nonsensical scribbles for a while before something dings in her brain. Her eyes light up.
"Or! I could make her undergo more training so she could have her own power!"
Satisfied with that, she keeps on scribbling.
Until the end of the night and she has to sleep for tomorrow's school.
She sleeps with content.
Come morning, she rushes down the stairs in her complete uniform. She almost passes by the couch when she notices a dark figure slumped like a sack of potatoes.
Stopping short, she notices that the pillow and blanket she set aside on the table was left untouched. She approaches the figure and starts removing his boots for him. She carefully reaches behind his neck so she could remove his large goggles. She sighs when she has to comb his dark, unruly hair off his tired face. He is out like a light, his lips parted a little for shallow breaths. She has seen him this exhausted before.
She covers him with the blanket and adjusts the pillow behind his head. Then, she places a sticky-note by the table to let him know that there's food in the fridge.
With one last sweep over his bangs, she kisses his forehead and whispers:
"Good night, Papa."
Author's Notes: Published just in time for Kacchan's birthday!
Buongiorno! Bonjour! Bonsior! Bon-hello! Welcome to my very first My Hero Academia story! I hope everyone is well and safe during these trying times with the pandemic going on. As for myself, I've been in quarantine for about a month and a half (I'm not essential, haha) which gives me the time to catch up to this series! I actually started watching last year but wasn't able to finish until the February of this year. After the fourth season, I went ahead and finished the manga. As such, I will be using the official BNHA translation as the main reference of this story.
At first, I didn't want to watch MHA/BNHA because I was afraid to fall in love with the characters. I felt like I wasn't emotionally ready to be attached to new set of characters. But then my close friend encouraged me to watch at least the first season. I did, and guess what? Hook, line, and sinker! This series had me at the first episode, but then I really, really fell in love during the USJ attack (I love you, Aizawa!). So I continued watching, fell in love with more characters, picked up some sons along the way—and now *All Might voice* I AM HERE!
Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction-slash-rant about my love for BNHA! This story will be my first story and take on the story, featuring a female OC. The plot will focus on her, Class 1-A, Shota "Tired Dad" Aizawa, and possibly the League of Villains. There will also romance in the form of either Bakugo/OC or Todoroki/OC; I haven't decided fully because with every chapter, the characters are growing more than I would realize.
Once again! Thank you very much for giving this story (and me, as a writer) an opportunity to share with everyone my passions as a writer! I could not imagine myself not writing a fanfiction about such a great and inspiring story such as My Hero Academia! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy writing it! Any comments, review, suggestions, or if you simply wanna fangirl with me about Todoroki, Bakugo or any other character, please let me know!
P.S. I'm totally listening to "Hero Too" while typing this.
P.S.S. Stay safe from the virus! Wash your hands, wear masks and gloves, stay home! We can beat this virus!
P.S.S.S. Happiest birthday, Katsuki Bakugo! You deserve all the love from your fans! Continue being an angry lil bean, Kacchan! 💛💥💣
