A modified alarm clock hit 4:00am and started to beep in a small but comfortable looking room, almost instantly a smallish pale hand slowly and carefully made its way towards the device. At 4:02am the button was pushed to turn it off. The owner of said hand took another three minutes to make her way out of her blankets and another minute to actually stand up.
By the time she meticulously made her bed -no wrinkles, sharp corners, and her pink fluffy stuffed bunny on top- it was 4:15. This was all done in the dark, at this point in her life these actions were so automatic she didn't need to see to make her bed.
"Step and lift, and step and lift, and step and lift," was the mantra she kept repeating in her head for walking. She didn't need it anymore, hadn't for years now, but in the morning it always helped her focus. By the time she had gotten to the door another 2 minutes had passed.
Continuing her routine she made her way to her restroom in the hallway, most of the doors in the building were open, the process of turning every knob would take way to long if she had to turn them all. "-and turn~," twisting the faucet knob was something that was difficult to get down. It's similar to twisting doorknobs in movement but the change in direction made it a bit more complicated.
Pooling water in her hands and then onto her face woke her up a bit. After turning the faucet off she reached for her toothbrush and toothpaste and started the delicate process of brushing her teeth. "Brush number one, two, three, four…" Each stroke was feather light and measured, "… four hundred ninety-eight, ninety-nine, five hundred!" She happily leaned over the sink and let the toothpaste just fall out of her mouth -she couldn't spit- then repeated the process of turning the faucet on to rinse out her mouth.
Gradually lifting up her head to look into the mirror she smiled showing her rather large canines before making her red eyes go as wide as they could. Facial expressions were pretty much the only thing she could move normally and she loved taking advantage of it. Though once she looked above her eyes she gasped in dismay. "I-I didn't clean them last night!?"
Jutting out of her forehead were two pristine white, angular, horns. Horns that she was now fretting over. "Now everyone will look at me like I don't clean myself…" she looked over at the digital clock that read 4:50am on the wall. "And I'm two minutes behind schedule! Oh man, I spent too long playing with mirror Shuri." So caught up with her 'dirty horns' she didn't even notice the state her hair was in.
Cleaning up the restroom, she hurried (in her mind) to her room to put on some clothing. Seeing as she was the only one who lived here, she didn't have any need for modesty so a pair of white panties were the only thing she had had on till this point. Luckily she always prepared her clothing the night before. Bras were a hassle but she could eventually get them on, she still didn't understand why she needed them when not wearing one felt so much better but Nemuri told her 'a decent bra is essential for a growing young lady' so she put up with it. "I don't even know how she knew my size; I don't even know my size… huh." Checking it off as an older woman thing she continued.
Moving on from that she methodically put on the rest of her outfit. Now looking like a typical shrine maiden she started on her chores at 5:27.
Watering the plants wasn't too hard to get down. All she had to do was not overextend the pitcher and it would be okay. And the act of watering itself was simple because the water came out of the pitcher with just a tilt. Caring for plants was actually her favorite chore because plants were patient. They didn't rush her and they were fine with waiting. So from her window seal where she had her personal flowers (She opened the curtains first) to every other plant she lovingly cared for. Watering them, snipping stray leaves, it was a shame she couldn't use a spray bottle but she couldn't pull the trigger fast enough for anything but a pitiful drizzle to come out.
She had just finished watering the last plant on the front porch at 6:12 when a familiar red car stopped in front of the shrine. 'What's Nemuri doing here so early?,' She wondered with a slight tilt of her head, before her eyes widened, 'Actually, why is she awake so early?!'
While all this was going through Shuri's head Nemuri aka Midnight got out of her car. Costumed up and ready to go she took one look at the Shuri and let out a bemused sigh. Once she started to walk towards the girl, her lips formed a smirk when the girl started to flounder around (her minimal movement and slow version) and looking absolutely adorable while doing so.
She was about to speak when the girl beat her to it. "Nemuri, why are you here?" Shuri looked truly shocked. Her mouth was open and her eyes were wide in bewildered expression. "Why is it so shocking for me coming to see my favorite little person off on her big day."
"Because your super lazy."
And her amused smirk was quickly replaced by a vain on her forehead and a strained smile. "I have no idea on what you're talking about."
"Well yeah, you sleep all the time, and you eat constantly, and your house is a m- " Nemuri interrupted her before she could go on a tangent.
"Okay! First all of all. What you just pointed out can be blamed on my job and you have no evidence to prove otherwise. And second aren't you forgetting something?"
Shuri thought for a few seconds until she looked a bit sheepish, quickly followed up by a mask of lady-like poise. "Oh, my apologies. Nemuri-san welcome to the Musutafu shrine." Before she could slowly move to bow Nemuri swept her up in a hug. "Oh my god you're so fucking cute!"
Blinking once and blushing a bit, she gently moved her arms around the older woman's waist and spoke with her head being smothered in an ample chest. "T-thank you Nemuri, I think you are very cute too. But you haven't answered my question…"
Nemuri stopped smothering the girl and held her at arm's length. Taking in what she was wearing and the girl's messing hair she felt her smirk return. "My~ you really did forget didn't you?" Shuri looked as though she had realized something and slowly reached to cover her horns. She looked like she had been struck, her kind lady expression fading into a teary-eyed pout.
"I-I swear I just forgot to clean them last night! I still maintain proper hygiene!"
Nemuri just blinked once and stared for a few seconds, wondering what the girl could be talking about until she realized and quickly made and effort to calm the girl. "No no, your horns still look as pretty as always." She assured. "Though your hair could use some work."
Sluggishly pulling her hands away from her hands away from her horns, Shuri just stared. "What?" In her mind dirty horns was the height of embarrassment so she just kind of ignored everything else. She only became even more confused as Nemuri continued.
"Yep." She said while looking at cherry blossom pink hair that obviously hadn't been brushed. And you'll need a change in your outfit too." The girl still looked lost so the woman just came out and said it. "Because you have school today?"
The previous lost expression became one of mortification. "No no, you're just confused." She told the woman in denial while deliberately waving her hand. "That's next week."
Said woman just raised an amused eyebrow. "Honey, you do know that I work there, correct?" But the pink haired girl just kept slowly waving her hand repeating "No no.." all the while looking all the more mortified in realization.
"Can't I just go tomorrow, Nemuri? I'm not even done with my chores and it'll take me at least an hour to put the uniform on. I haven't eaten or gone through my exercises either… and it'll take me hours to get to the school because I'll miss the train." She trailed off before gasping in horror. "Plus, I didn't clean my horns last night!"
If any of this surprised Nemuri it didn't show, it was almost as if she were ready for this. "So to go down that list." She held up a hand. "Yes, you can go tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that too. But you're also going today." She put down a finger. "Second the nice, retired couple down the street agreed to take care of the shrine in your absence, remember?" Another finger went down. "And the rest are easy fixes." She put the other three fingers down. "I don't have enough time to clean your horns how you like but like I said before, they look as pretty as ever." She finished with a smile.
Shuri, however, looked as though the wind was taken right out of her sails. "Okay…" she trailed off before slowly turning to go back through the open doors. "But how am I going to do everything fast enou- Oh." She realized after Nemuri picked her up in a bridal carry. A look of satisfaction was on her face.
"I'm going to help you course!" She said happily as she closed the door behind her and made her way to the girls' room.
This happened from time to time. Nemuri took whatever chance she could to pamper or help her out. Shuri didn't mind though, it was always faster than her doing things herself and it felt… nice. She appreciated it immensely.
Setting her down on the bed, Nemuri started putting the uniform she'd be wearing to U.A. out. A white button up shirt and a red tie with a grey blazer for the top. For the bottom a skirt and knee-high socks with dress shoes to finish it off. In other words more layers of clothing than she's worn in a long while. Shuri gulped and wondered how she would ever have time for anything else in the morning if she had to put this on every day. The shoes alone would take her thirty minutes and buttons didn't exactly agree with her.
'I'll just wake up earlier,' she decided resolutely. While it'd be a pain to get used too, the other changes to her schedule would be even worse. So waking up earlier would be relatively minor compared to that.
"Okay! Stand up, and let's get those cloths off." Ms. Nemuri said after kneeling down to take her wooden sandals off. She sounded a tad eager today.
Slowly standing up, she let Nemuri untie her hakama and slide the rest off her body. Now standing in just her white panties and a pink bra, Nemuri went behind her. "I see you still haven't gotten the hang of your bras." She observed looking at the one clasp that was hooked in.
Looking down with the barest of movement Shuri meekly tried to defend herself. "W-well the one clasp took so long, and I was already two minutes behind schedule so I figured-"
"No excuses." Nemuri interrupted. "Leaving only one clasped will ruin the bra faster, and maneuvering something so small is good practice for you in long run." She said lifting the girls arms up to take the bra off. "You won't be wearing that bra anyways; the wires are nearly poking out." She said tossing the bra on the bed.
Shuri just accepted what the other woman said, Nemuri'd know better than her after all. She felt the older woman palm her breasts from behind. "Hmm, feels like you've grown, it seems it's almost time to get you some new sets of bras. You've nearly graduated into c-cups."
Shuri wondered how Nemuri could tell when herself didn't feel any difference in size at all. "But that's for another day." Nemuri said as went and picked out another bra. This one was white instead of pink. "Oh, this matches your panties! Here, arms up."
After the bra Nemuri, went through and meticulously put the rest of my clothing on for me. Far faster than I could ever hope to put them on. After tightening my tie, she took a step back and smiled. Not the knowing or teasing smirk that she usually had on but one that shown with pride, her eyes might have gotten a bit moist too.
Shuri wasn't good at context clues though. "Nemuri! Did I hurt you?! Are you okay!?" The girl started fretting again but Nemuri just put up her hand while wiping her eyes. Y-yeah, just had something in my eye is all. You're fine." She wiped her eyes once more and perked up. "Okay, lets do something about that hair!"
Two minutes later, Shuri was sitting on a stool in her restroom while Nemuri was behind her, brush in hand, easily managing her long hair.
They never talked when she was brushing her hair. Both had content smiles on their faces though, and after five minutes her hair was silky and smooth. Nemuri could tell that the girl had been using the conditioner she'd gotten for her. It helped her keep her hair and save time in the mornings. Rather expensive though.
Looking at her watch Nemuri saw that she had about an hour to get to work and it took around forty-five minutes to get there by car. 'Something quick then.'
After putting the girl's hair up into a low ponytail and carrying her to the kitchen, the woman set the shuri down and let her pull out the chairs. "Okay, so you're just going to have to settle for some cereal and fruit that alright?" Shuri responded with a, 'Yes, Nemuri'.
"Oh, and I'll probably have to help you with the cereal, we don't have a lot of time."
The girl had just gotten the chair out when a very large bowl of cereal and a banana was sat down in front of her.
Thankfully she didn't have to chew cereal. She could just swallow it whole with no problems. It was just the act of getting the spoon to her face and back that would take up time. Luckily Nemuri was here for that. And keeping in mind how much time they had she was not wasting any.
What had used to be a gentle and calm affair was now just Nemuri frantically shoveling food as quickly as possible into the girl's mouth. Almost faster than the girl could swallow. "Okay now drink the milk." Nemuri ordered while bringing the bowl up to the girl's mouth. But her lips closed before the milk could be poured. "Shuri drink the milk." the woman repeated.
The girl was adamant about it and whined. "I don't like it though, it's gross."
Nemuri wasn't taking any of it though. "C'mon Shuri~," she said while putting the bowl down to squeeze her own boobs. "If you don't drink up, they'll never get to my size~."
The girl just deadpanned. "I'm still a growing girl remember? Why would I care about something like that right now?"
The woman stopped what she was doing and flicked the younger girls head. "You're getting to that age is all," she sighed. "Well it'll help your bones." she tried again.
"My bones don't need help."
Nemuri conceded to her point then put a hand on top of the girls' head and smirked, "Okay then, I guess you'll always be shorter than me."
Freezing and narrowing her eyes at the older woman, Shuri opened her mouth and slowly tilted her head back; not taking her eye off the woman.
With a discreet fist pump under the table, Nemuri preceded to pour the milk into her mouth managing to not spill any on her uniform. After putting the dishes up and wiping the younger girl's mouth with a napkin she picked the girl up. "Okay you can eat the fruit on the way but we really need to go."
And with that, after making sure the door to her the back area of the shrine was locked, they were both strapped in her car and on their way to U.A, with Shuri happily munching on her banana.
40min later
"You should have everything you'll need today in your bag. You have your phone on you?"
"Yes, Nemuri."
"Me on speed dial?"
"Yes, Nemuri."
"Okay good. You remember where your classroom is?"
"Yes, Nemuri"
Currently they were pulling into the school's parking lot accessible only to teachers. Nemuri wasn't fairing too well now that they were actually here.
"We're here pretty early so you should have enough time to get to your classroom." Nemuri reminded her for the third time, fingers drumming against her wheel. "If you need help with anything just call me alright?"
"Yes, Nemuri." Shuri was smiling, honestly she'd never had anyone like Nemuri in her life, it was nice that she was worrying so much. Shuri slowly rested a comforting hand on Nemuri's thigh since both her hands were on the wheel drumming nervously, this visibly calmed the older woman's nerves.
The car came to a stop and Nemuri squeezed her hand before getting out. Patiently waiting for a much slower moving Shuri. After they were both out, Nemuri took the girl's hand and started to walk at a pace Shuri set.
"And remember you have to call me by my hero name."
"I know Nemuri."
"Don't let a classmate rush you either. If they start to bully you let me or another teacher know."
"I know Nemuri."
Nemuri was really not handling this well. She'd known this girl for years, played with her, taught her, helped her work though life, she had been with her when she laughed and truly smiled for the first time. Her girl's first day of school, first day around people her own age who could make or break her, was turning out to be more difficult than she thought.
Stopping at where they'd have to part ways, she turned to hug the girl one last time. Smashing the girls head into her chest and just holding her there for a moment. The girl's arms tentatively wrapped around her waist in response.
"You'll do great today." She spoke into the girl's hair.
Slightly teary eyed Shuri tried to discreetly wipe her face into the woman's suit. "I know," she whispered, "thank you."
After a few more moments the two-woman separated and Nemuri sped off, probably nearly late for wherever she had to be. "Okay so its 7:05, I have an hour and twenty minutes to get there." Shuri cheerily stated, starting her mantra for walking. "Step and lift and step and left"
57 minutes later
'Oh my god, I managed not to get lost!' I shouted furiously in my head. 'And I got here with time to spare!'
With a victorious smile I went through the process of turning the knob of the large door. Putting the barest hint of pressure on the door, it swung open. 'The staff must have oiled it, they're too kind.'
Surprisingly there were already a few kids sitting down already. A stoic guy with a scared-up face and red/white hair split down the middle. 'Interesting.' A cute girl with some kind of mutant quirk that had green hair longer than hers tied up in a bow. 'How cute..' And a serious looking guy with funny eyebrows powerwalking right… at… me…
'OH CRAP! Did I do something wrong already!? Was there some sort of teenage social que I missed?! THIS IS SCARY, NEMURI I NEED YOU!'
While inside Shuri was freaking out so hard she was already debating on calling Nemuri, outside she kept the same automatic polite smile she had on while greeting the people that came by the shrine with her hands folded together in front of her.
"Hello fellow classmate! My name is Tenya Ida, I see you're trying to be punctual on your first day of class also!" He spoke fast and bowed at a speed I couldn't hope to match.
'OH CRAP, TOO FAST, TOO MUCH.'
A moment passed with Shuri trying to process the tall blue haired boy's introduction, then she slowly -even slower than usual- bowed her head how a proper lady would.
Almost a full minute passed before the pink haired girl finished her bow and in a soft voice spoke, "Hello, Tenya-san, my name is Nanashi Shuri but you may call me Shuri."
The whole room was looking at her now. 'Oh no. I knew Nemuri was just being nice. My horns are filthy.'
Ida was still for a moment out of surprise. Both because of how long it took her to complete a simple movement and because of her name, but quickly snapped out of it.
"Ah, it's nice to meet you too, Shuri-san, hopefully we get along and please call me Ida!" He said while chopping the air for some reason.
"Yes, thank you Ida-san."
With that he quickly went back to his seat. Leaving me to repeat my mantra in my head. 'Step and lift and step and lift. See? That wasn't so bad. This people thing is easy.' Focusing on walking calmed me down quite a bit, of course, with my frayed nerves I was moving even slower than normal. I didn't even glance at anyone of the others around me less I lose said focus.
Sitting in my seat, I immediately relaxed. I glanced around making sure not to move my head to much and saw that in the time it took me to sit down Ida-san greeted me, seven other kids came in and had already sat down with more on the way.
Everyone was so interesting. For so long I thought that I was the only one my size due to everyone I interacted with being bigger than me. But now I had a whole classroom full of kids my age and some were even smaller than me!
My eyes widened, 'Oh my gosh, is that girl pink!? That's so cool! She even has horns like me!' While Shuri was freaking out, she didn't notice the focus of her attention had made her way over to her seat until she was tapped on the shoulder.
"Hi, I'm Mina! I think that's my" -SNAP- "… seat."
At once the room went quiet and all eyes went towards the two girls. One with a dumbfounded expression and the other with one of perfect poise. "Oh? It seems that this desk has broken." Shuri took her time standing up "It's very nice to meet you Mina-san. My name us Nanashi Shuri, but you may call me Shuri." She slowly performed her bow.
The class was room was still silent by the time she was done. "My apologies for sitting at your desk, I must have started counting from the wrong side of the room. You may have it back." She started to recount the seats and gradually started to move to where her seat probably was. Leaving the girl with a desk that was snapped in half.
"Oh!" Shuri turned back towards the pink skinned girl. "You have beautiful eyes Mina-san." And with that she left the slightly slightly frightened girl to her own thing.
'I can't believe I did that,' Shuri bemoaned in her head. 'I completely botched my seating arrangement. Now I'll be known as the girl that can't count AND doesn't clean her horns. I was so embarrassed I couldn't even ask her about her horns or compliment her skin." By the time she sat down the class was talking again, with a group surrounding the girl whose desk she broke, though they kept glancing at her for some reason. Shuri sighed.
"She really does have pretty eyes…"
"What was that?" The girl she was now sitting beside asked with a smile, thankfully not surprising her again.
"O-oh, just another comment about Mina-sans eyes." Shuri silently cursed herself for the slight stutter as she turned her head towards the speaker.
"I see, yes they are quite unique. Well, my name is Yaoyorozu Momo, it's nice to meet you."
Only to be faced with a stunning smile and a hand out to shake. It only made Shuri's already rampant nerves run even more wild. "Ah it's nice to meet you too, Yaoyorozu Momo-san. My name is Nanashi Shuri but you may call me Shuri."
'Okay, I nailed the introduction, now I only need to rock the handshake. C'mon Shuri, Nemuri worked in this with you. You got this.'
Patiently waiting the girl kept her hand out while keeping that same smile on her face. She was surprised when I gently gripped her hand and just held it there, but then must have realized something because she gripped back firmly and shook once. I smiled at her, "You have a wonderful smile Yaoyorozu Momo-san."
Her eyes slightly widened and she brought a hand to her mouth. "O-oh, thank you Shuri-san. Your smile is also quite pretty."
I froze. That might have been the first compliment I've gotten from someone who's even kind of close to my age.
"T-t-thank you, Yaoyorozu Momo-san." And my mind is blank, there goes this conversation too.
'Man, hopefully I'm making good first impressions. Granny said to always give a compliment to anyone you want to be friends with as soon as possible.' My eyes widened. 'I didn't compliment Ida-sans eyebrows. He probably thinks I don't want to be friends.' I spared a glance at Ida-san who was arguing with a loud blond-haired boy with his feet on the desk.
I was scandalized, how could someone be so impolite? Is it a teenage thing? Feet are supposed to be on the ground, not the desk!
I looked at all the other kids, some were sitting in their seats. But most were leaning or sitting on their desks. 'I have so much to learn.' I brought my hands to my face and held them there. 'This is difficult…'
Suddenly, the class freaked out and me being the calm individual I am, only broke my desk a little bit.
"The fuck is that?!" the improper blond boy whom I may or may not have to learn from shouted.
Looking closer to at the familiar yellow sleeping bag being zipped down had a full-blown smile forcing itself onto my face. This must have been why Nemuri wouldn't tell me who my teacher was! My excitement for school just increased two-fold!
Until I realized what he was looking at.
"Why is there already a broken desk?" Aizawa asked in a deadly calm voice.
Mina-san didn't answer. Understandable. The first nineteen times they meet he'll be super intimidating. He's fine after that though! Though it might take a bit longer without the funny hats.
"Well, ya see…" Mina-san was failing at providing an answer for some reason or another so I might as well make up for her. I was already used to him after all.
"I did it sensei!" I spoke loudly and clearly. "It was an accident."
"Oh?" he raised an eyebrow at me. My god, I knew he'd be disappointed.
"Don't let it happen again. Now everyone to their seats." He looked at Mina. "You. We'll get another desk by tomorrow."
"YES SENSEI!"
I was mentally cheering at already being prepared and in my seat when a boy with large elbows came and popped my bubble. "I think you're in my seat…" he rubbed the back of his head nervously.
Darn it.
Getting up again, I felt myself moving even slower than usual with everyone already in their seats and watching me. "Oh." My face grew a bit warm as gingerly got up. "Here." I mumbled and softly placed the (small) piece of broken desk in his hand. It took a bit more than a minute to make my way over to the last empty desk with my bag.
Everyone's eyes were on me, the girl who doesn't clean her horns, who can't count, who was rude to a classmate, and now who disappointed her sensei.
I sat down between a girl with a cute face and strange earlobes and a boy with an magnificent beak. I'd need to comment on it when I introduce myself later.
"Now that everyone's seated," he produced a set clothing from… somewhere? "Put these on and go to the training field. You have 15 minutes." He glanced at me when he finished.
Oh no! I just sat down and I only have 15 minutes to get up, change clothes and make it to the field?! How does he expect anyone to do something so quickly? Eh, me. How do he expect me to do so many things quickly?
Slowly getting up once more, I hadn't even grabbed my bag yet and everyone was already out the door. Aizawa-san was the final person in the room, eyeing me.
"You broke two desks." He stated. I looked meekly at his boots.
"W-well I'm kind of nervous and I was surprised at the sudden-"
"Doesn't matter. You have to do better." He stressed the 'have'.
"…I know." It's always difficult to look him in the eyes when I've done something to disappoint him.
"Good." He tossed me some the clothing he had. "That should be in your size. This is the only time you'll change in the classroom got it?" Before I could respond he was walking out of the room "And I won't wait on you." With that the door closed.
"But…" I spoke out in an empty room.
"I forgot how to handle zippers."
37 minutes later
"Oh man this might be bad."
I was currently trying my best to get to the field as fast as possible and well, I think I made good time. I had to take some liberties with the set of clothing Aizawa had given me and maybe a short cut or two, but overall I did a good job.
I couldn't figure out the zipper so I just put the top on backwards. As long as didn't show my chest it' be fine. I also couldn't get all the buttons or tie off fast enough so I might have accidently torn those to help with time. For the skirt I definitely ripped that off and managed to put the pants on properly. Oh, and I am now barefoot.
I steadily came up on the field. Back strait, chin up, and gait smooth just like I was taught. That's probably why everyone was looking at me. They were impressed. They just couldn't see it earlier because I embarrassed myself.
Why is Aizawa-san shaking his head?
He said something to the two kids lined up and after a buzzer sounded, they ran using their quirks?
The cute girl with the hair bow was hopping against the guy with lots of arms. Oh! This is a physical. But it looks like everyone's participating, will I have too also?
By the time I got there four other pairs of kids were already done and one was waiting for his turn. Aizawa-san didn't even bother to tell me to line up and just buzzed the buzzer.
Why is everyone giggling?
Walking to stand next to Mina-san I waited with everyone else. I still didn't know what I was doing here on whether I would get to participate on not. It looked really fun! But also like something I'd mess up.'
"Umm, Shuri-chan? " Mina-san hesitantly got my attention. Why does she look so nervous?
"Yes, Mina-san?" I'll just do my best to reassure her by looking as calm as possible.
The pink-haired girl shivered. Why? I have no idea. It isn't cold out here at all.
"You, ah, you have a branch in your hair…"
"Oh. Thank you Mina-san." I reached up to take the branch out.
"No problem… Uh, Shuri-chan?"
"Yes, Mina-san?"
"Why'd you have a branch in your hair?"
I blinked, and thought back to how I got out here so fast.
Flashback
One of the third story windows of U.A high school had been opened.
"Okay Shuri, aim for anything but that tree." She told herself while climbing out, a lone tree was beneath her.
However, having never climbed out a window before she slipped.
"Oh." Shuri said simply when she felt air.
Flashback end
"Shortcut." I said after a pause.
"Shortcut?" The pink girl questioned.
"Yes."
"Let's go to the next test." Aizawa-san told the class grumpily.
Everyone was glancing at my way but didn't say a word.
For the next several minutes the tests went similar to the first I watched, them doing the tests and me lagging along. The only test I got to do was the toe-touches. (I got a perfect score!) but it was okay. The disappointment from not being able to do the tests was overshadowed by everyone else's quirks. They were all so cool! Impolite blond boy was explodey! And Mina-san could produce liquid! I mean I can produce liquid too, but it's different. I'm sure her liquid actually does something!
By far the most impressive to me was Yaoyorozu Momo-san's quirk. She made such a pretty light when she produced something from her body. I guess the actual act of making a cannon out of nothing was cool but the light was really pretty.
Though, something weird was this 'Izuka Midoria's' broken finger. He threw the ball and everyone seemed amazed? Even Aizawa-san was impressed. I mean, I could do that too, and I wouldn't even break my finger. What makes him so special? Granted I've never thrown a ball before… so maybe that's it? Maybe balls are just difficult to throw?
I've never felt this way before. I don't like it.
Another thing I noticed was that as the tests went on and everyone got more and more sweaty, they also looked more irritated. I couldn't figure out why, they were whispering and glancing at me too. I could listen in on them if I wanted but Nemuri said that was rude. Plus trying to block out everything else was really difficult when I let go.
I was really curious though.
When everyone was gathered in front of a giant screen, most of everyone looked as if they were about snap. Impolite blond boy (I should really get his name) was glaring in my direction and the only one who didn't look gruntled was Yaoyorozu Momo and the nervous boy who broke his finger, surprisingly.
"Here are your scores." Aizawa-san clicked a button and 19 names showed up on the screen.
"WHAT!" The entire class shouted at once, making me wince.
"Why isn't she last?!"
"She's not even up there!"
"She didn't even do anything!"
"DIE!"
'Oh my god.' I realized, becoming mortified. The reason everyone looked so angry throughout the tests was because I wasn't doing them alongside them. They thought I was getting a free pass.
Now I'll never make friends with any of them. This might be even worse than unwashed horns. I'll be the friendless, lazy girl who got a free pass on the physical. I didn't even know this was that serious to them. I should have pushed to do more.
"SILENCE."
At once the class got quiet. Aizawa-san was making his scary face. "She didn't do any of the tests because she didn't need too. I already know how they would turn out."
"And how would that be, huh!?" Impolite blonde boy yelled.
"Sensei, why didn't she have to take the tests?" The cute girl with the hair ribbon calmly asked.
"Because the results would have been the same. Just with her on top." He said simply. "And I didn't want to damage the field so early in the year."
"What do you mean sensei?" A guy with yellow hair and a black squiggle asked.
"Exactly what I said." He let that sink in. "Oh, and the expulsion thing was a lie."
"WHAT!" the class bellowed once again. Aizawa-san was cleaning his ear with his pinky now.
The class was shocked until Yaoyorozu Momo-san spoke up.
"Of course it was a lie." She put a hand on her hip, "It should have been obvious if you thought it through."
Most of the class looked gob smacked
Aizawa-san put on a shit-eating grin. "It was a rational deception used to draw out the upper limits of your quirks."
'I didn't know about the expulsion thing, no wonder they were angry at me.' I thought dejectedly. But I always heard Nemuri and Hizashi-san complaining about him expelling every student he had. How did Yaoyorozu Momo-san know that this year would be different? She must be really smart.
"But Sensei, how do you know that she'd be at the top?" A brown hair girl with pink cheeks (those are nice) asked.
Aizawa looked at her. "Doesn't matter. Ask her yourselves." And with that he started to walk away. "Today is a half day, be ready for work tomorrow. Class dismissed."
Suddenly all eyes were on me, A few looked nervous but most seemed like they were curious. 'Why are they all looking at me like that?' I thought nervously.
The cute green-haired bow girl stepped forward with her hand held out. "My name is Asui Tsuyu, call me Tsu. Kero."
"It's nice to meet you Tsu-san. My name is Nanashi Shuri, But you may call me Shuri." I said with a pleasant smile, reaching up to shake her hand. Inwardly on the other hand… 'Holy crap, that Kero at the end was adorable!' but I managed not to let my gushing show. "You are very cute."Ha! I didn't forget the compliment this time.
Tsu-sans face went a bit red as a gently put my hand in hers, 'huh, her hands are bigger than I thought.'
"Thank you. Kero." She didn't shake my hand and just kind of left it there, waiting for something. We both stood there for a moment until she let her hand drop with an expression I couldn't quite place.
"So what was Aizawa-sensei talking about?" The girl asked. Politely ignoring my wardrobe at the moment.
"What do you mean?" I was confused again, but I guess I missed a social cue because everyone just started talking at once.
"She meant why didn't you have to do the test!?"
"What did sensei mean when he said you'd beat all of us?"
"Why do you look like that?!"
"I approve the color of your bra!"
All at once they started to ask me questions, until they were just a tide of loud voices I couldn't understand.
'Oh no! Too much! THIS IS TOO MUCH!' I started to panic.
"GUYS!" A random voice shouted, quieting the rest of them. "Let her talk." Thank you random person who I curently wish to know, maybe now I can collect my thoughts.
Nope. I was still panicking. I couldn't think right. Retreat! My body went on autopilot.
"My apologies but I cannot answer your questions right now. I'm leaving." I started my slow and careful walk to the school without looking at any of their faces. I was too ashamed.
'Oh man, they'll all think I'm even more impolite than before.' I thought dejectedly. I didn't stop walking like a lady though. No need to have them think I'm a idle with my posture too.
I didn't make it very far to the building before the other kids started to pass me up, some giving me strange looks as they passed by, others not even looking at me, a few were even glaring. 'Man, I messed up…'
It took me several minutes to get back to the classroom, lots of kids and faculty members were looking at me strangely as I passed them by. By the time I got to my stuff I didn't want to go through the hassle of putting my ruined clothing… on.
I heard the door open.
"I see you destroyed your uniform." Aizawa-san spoke while closing the door behind him. "And that you jumped out the window." He pointed out referring to the open window.
I laughed nervously while sluggishly reaching up to scratch my left horn., "Well 'jump' is a bit inaccurate." He gave me a flat look.
"Oh sorry, you fell through the window. Small mercy's right?" he was still giving me that disproving look.
"W-well, I was running out of time. A-and I hadn't dealt with a zipper in such a long time, and it's not like the fall could actually hurt me-" He held up a hand to stop my rambling.
"You know what you need to improve on?" he asked.
I wouldn't meet his eyes, and looked down at his boots instead. "Yes." My voice sounded tiny.
"Good." He said simply.
Suddenly I felt like crying, all the stress of the change to my schedule caught up to me at once. "Good? Good!?" I looked up to meet his eyes. "What about this is good? My horns are dirty. I miscounted desks twice. I probably missed tons of social cues! My classmates probably think I'm lazy! And talking to people is really difficult! What about this is g-!" I stopped my rant when he put a large hand on my head.
"Stop freaking out. You're fine. You're overthinking things."
I was adament though, "But I was accidently rude to Ida-san." It came out in a weak voice.
Aizawa-san smiled lightly. "I doubt you, of all people, even have the capacity to be rude."
"Well I-"
"No." he interrupted me again. "Stop it. It's your first day. It's okay that you were nervous."
My next words died right then.
"You've improved on your control tremendously since we found you and you'll keep doing so. Until then, get to know your classmates. Rely on them. You'll be alright."
I felt so relieved hearing those words. I still don't have a clue if they were true or not, but they calmed me down coming in the form of Aizawa-san's monotoned voice.
"What about my uniform?" I asked.
"Nemuri got multiple sets for a reason. It'll be fine." He reassured me.
"What will I go home in?" I glanced at my ruined cloths.
He walked over to his desk. "We were prepared for that too." He said pulling out a large black shirt and some slip-on shoes. "Nemuri and Hizashi wanted to drive you home but I said no. Even though we already timed your walk between school and the shrine you need to get used to walking it on your own. Still have your phone?"
"Yes." I answered.
"Good." He nodded and handed me the clothing then started to walk out. Call if you have an emergency but other-wise do this on your own." Halfway out the door he stopped and turned back to me. "And remember, be brave." And with that, he shut the door.
Now thoroughly calmed down, I could think through things as I put the ruined clothing in my bag. Number one in my thoughts was thanking god for Aizawa-san, without him I probably wouldn't have been able to do anything right for the rest of the day because I of how upset I was.
I maneuvered my phone out of my bag to put in my pocket. Was Aizawa-san right? Would this really be fine? He usually was but I still have so many questions from today alone. How would I fair tomorrow or the next day? 'Oh god, I hope the other students don't think too badly of me.' Why did this have to be so stressful?
I managed to only tear the shirt slightly on my horns when I put it on, so that was an accomplishment at least. "And what was that about relying on my classmates? They probably don't want to be anywhere near me. I don't even know if I made a good first impression of not, though I'm leaning towards not…"
2 hours and 23 minutes later
"Sorry, Mr. Nakamora-san." I apologized to the old bus driver for taking so much time to get off.
"Don't worry about it Shuri-san, you just get home safe." He brushed off my apology while cheerily smiling.
I smiled at him as he drove off. Nemuri made sure to introduce me to the old man. In her words he wasn't, 'A skeevy looking guy,' and I could trust him. Nemuri made sure to do a full background check and everything came up positive apparently. Nevertheless, I still have no idea on what she was talking about. Nakamora-san goes a little out of his way to take me a bit closer to the shrine. Now I only have 15 minutes to walk.
A poorly dressed man was trying to get my attention, his pupils were really wide. I just ignored him because I was told repeatedly to stop talking to strangers. And he smelt terrible. He must not be from around here.
"Hey slow girl!"
The foul-smelling man moved in front of me. 'He really needs a shower…' I thought with a grimace.
The foul-smelling man brandished a knife and waved it while grinning. "Alright girly, you're gonna come with me for a few minutes."
'He is lacking teeth.' I noticed.
I was confused though. Why would I go with him? I didn't ask because Nemuri told me to not ask strange men questions but I was still curious. So I just smiled and was polite like always.
"My apologies sir. But I really must be going." I started to slowly move past him but was stopped by his blade at my throat.
"Girly, I think it'd be real smart to listen to me right now." The foul-smelling man was still grinning.
I just kept moving forward, unheeded by the knife pushing at my skin. I didn't want to talk to him anymore.
"Hey! You wanna get hurt?!" The foul-smelling man was starting to get angry. I just kept walking forward.
The man, noticing that his knife wasn't doing anything, then lifted his hand up with a translucent sphere in his palm.
"No?" I questioned. I certainly didn't want to get hurt.
The dirty man then gestured to the ball in his hand. "Then you'd better listen if you know what's good for you." the man smiled threatingly.
Then it clicked.
"Oh! You're a criminal and you've been harassing me." I was happy that I finally understood why this man wouldn't leave be. It made sense now. "I didn't notice at first because you were too pitiful for me to register as a threat. My apologies." I told him; I would have bowed out of politeness but that would have taken too long.
This only made the man angrier but I continued.
"By law I am required to give you warning before you continue to assault me, you are currently risking your life for what may or may not result in serious injury or even death." I kept my hands folded and my automatic smile as I told him. "Do you wish to proceed?"
He through his ball at my face hitting me in the forehead. It made a large bang sound that slightly hurt my ears, but my expression didn't change.
"Very well, you have made you're choice clear despite not giving a verbal response."
POV change
Her last statement said, Shuri smoothly brought up her arm as if she were about to tap something with her knuckle. Faster than any other movement she'd made that day but still slow enough that the man would have had enough time to step away.
'Nemuri told me to start aiming for non-vital areas…' She reminded herself, and with that thought she used two knuckles to knock on the dirty man's collarbone.
Only her hand blurred.
With the loud sound of bones breaking, the man was knocked to the other side of the street, only stopping when he hit a nearby lamp post, bending the mettle slightly. He just laid there. Still.
Shuri brought her arm down, far slower than when she rose it up, and turned to continue home.
"Man, I tried to use less force this time." She complained to herself. "I guess I should probably call the police… Oh! And I can text Nemuri how my day went! I probably need to text Hizashi-san too."
Set on her tasks, she continued her slow walk home. A weak groan could be heard behind her.
AN: New story! I figured I probably needed to get one of the other ideas out of my head. Believe it or not, Shuri was competing with two other MHA OC's for their own fics so let me know y'alls thoughts.
And around halfway through writing this I realized I was accidently basing Shuri's appearance and even her name off of Shuna from "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime" so yeah that wasn't intentional. Now I just can't imagine Shuri any different.
And if any of you are reading my other story no worries, that's coming out soon. This took me like three days to do and the bulk of it was when I was sorta intoxicated. (You'll probably be able to notice) so time really isn't an issue here. I just needed to get another idea out of my brain.
If y'all see any problems with the POV, pls let me know. This is unedited and like I said before, drunk writing. Just letting me know your thoughts in general would be appreciated tbh. Oh! What do you readers think of Shuri and her interactions? Does it feel forced? This is the first time I've ever had a character interact with so many people in this manner before so feedback is definitely welcome.
Pairings are undecided but will most likely be yuri. Hell It could even be a harem for all I know.
Merry Christmas or whatever the phrase is for what you celebrate! Stay safe.
Ps. Just realized I asked the same thing multiple times throughout this AN…
Pps. This is now sorta edited, sorry about drunk Blanknames shit.
