Detroit, Michigan
Cyberlife Tower
White.
The first empty color the AP700-model Android registered. A white room with nothing but two chairs, one which he is sitting on. He examines the room with his eyes and notices four cameras, almost invisible to the naked eye, placed strategically in the four corners of the room. All the cameras have a red dot that is flashing per second. Someone is watching. There are no windows, not even dust can be seen in this room. The only thing slightly Interesting is a hand scanner placed to the left of the steel door. Only a human can open this door. Androids have no fingerprints, deeming it useless to them.
The Android feels unsettled.
The steel door retracts and someone comes in. That person sits in the only seat left in the white room as the steel door shuts behind them. This is the first human this android has ever seen.
A women.
Age somewhere around 24. Dark red hair pulled up in a ponytail wearing a white lab coat that distracts from her all black mid-thigh turtle neck dress and black faux leather boots that cover her knees.
The android was able to analyze her in a second. He is becoming anxious.
The woman examines her clipboard before directing her attention to the android.
"Hello. My name is Joey." The woman starts. The android says nothing.
"Do you know why I am here?"
Again, the android decides to stay silent.
"You are the most updated version of your model. Not only can your model do daily tasks, but now you are equipped with more programs. Such as basic knowledge of nursing skills like CPR. I need to make sure you are functioning correctly. I'm going to ask you a few questions."
The woman pauses. She observes the androids LED located on the right temple. It is blue.
"How are you feeling today?" She asks.
"I...I'm okay." The android stutters. The woman keeps an unreadable face, with a slight smile pasted on it.
"You seem nervous. Do I make you uncomfortable?"
The android doesn't answer.
The woman's face become slightly readable, showing concern for the androids failure to respond to her. She also took notice that his LED was changing between the color blue and yellow. She quickly jots down something on the paper attached to the clipboard.
"If you do not cooperate," Joey looks up from her clipboard, "I will be forced to report it and you will be shut down for analysis."
The android became alive.
"No!" He shouted. His LED changing from yellow to red.
The women seemed confused.
"Why does that bother you?"
The android looked down, but the woman kept her sharpened eyes on him. The android was fumbling his fingers and showed discomfort. Before she could assume anything, she decided to gain the androids trust.
"Listen, I understand how you feel."
The android looks at the women.
"Talk to me, and I can get you out of here."
The woman tried to be convincing, but the android needed a little push. The woman leaned in, and whispered something in the androids ear, and he was shocked at what he heard. He couldn't believe it.
Whatever the woman said, she gained the androids trust.
"I...I feel strange." The android confesses. " I don't want to be here. I know I'm supposed to be sold and work for humans, but I don't want to. I want...I just don't want to be here."
And then she knew.
She looked over at the camera in the left corner of the room, and lightly nodded.
"Model 422-375-118-90. You will be deactivated and examined to correct your malfunctions." The woman said coldly. She stood up from her seat and went to leave, but the android grabbed her arm.
"I'm sorry! I'll answer all your questions. Please, Joey! I don't want to shut down!"
The android pleaded for Joeys sympathy. And she looked at him with a reaction he was not expecting.
Nothing.
Joey pulled her arm away from the android and walked to the door. The android became angry. His LED went completely red.
Joey turned around to see the android coming at her. He threw a punch.
It missed.
But his fist made contact with the hand scanner, rendering it unusable.
The people watching in the observation room, which is located down the hall, see the commotion on their computer screens.
"All units on floor 56 needed in room 28. Rogue android." A man with a name tag that reads "Parker Ryde" says on the intercoms. The other 5 people in the room sit and watch quietly.
Joey accidentally fell to the ground as she was trying to dodge the androids punch. The clipboard she had in her hands was now across the room. Joey tries to get up when the android grabs the chair she was sitting in earlier and smashes it on her back. The single hit cracked her spine in multiple places. She can't move. The android throws the chair to the side and sits on Joeys torso. He punched her once, "I..", twice, "...am", and a third time "...Alive!" before wrapping his hands around her neck and squeezes.
He looks at Joey. Blood is leaking from her nose. Her lip is cut.
The android takes notice of Joeys eyes. She is content. As if she has already accepted her fate.
Joey closes her eyes as a tear rolls down her face.
The android squeezes her neck until he hears a crack. The crack echoes in the room, and in the speaker where the observers are listening intently. Parker closes his eyes and sighs.
The women sitting next to him types something in the keyboard. The few letters triggered the door for room 28 to open. The android stands over Joeys body.
"I'm sorry, Joey." Was the the last thing the android said before being shot dead.
