The Final Battle
"Mysticon Dragon riders, on me!" the Dragon Mage shouted. The Mysticons then proceeded to pounce on the Spectral Hand, sending all their blows and special attacks.
"UNLEASH THE DRAGON!" the Dragon Mage shouted.
"FLY, PHOENIX, FLY!" the Striker yelled.
"BATTLE UNICORN, CHARGE!" Mysticon Knight roared.
"TIME TO HOWL!" Mysticons Ranger howled.
But... their attacks... didn't work?
"Girls, what happened?" Arkayna asked, almost frightened.
"We fired this time. I don't understand what went wrong" Piper voiced her thoughts.
The Spectral Hand roared at the Mysticons. It then took the Lances from the girls, breaking them in half, dropping them to the ground.
The citizens in the mines were terrified. What was going to happen now?
The Spectral Hand then knocked all of the Mysticons off their mounts. Mysticon Knight used her shield to protect the other mysticons.
The citizens rushed to their side, questions flooding all at once. Questions like: What happened? Why didn't it work? Are you girl okay?
The Mysticons themselves were confused. It means Nova Terron had lied to them. But that couldn't have been true, right?
Wrong. The Spectral Hand continued to absorb every human on the streets. The Spectral Hand destroyed all the Dragon Mounts. The Mysticons watched in horror as they realized that there was no way to save the realm that they loved.
"What do we do now?!" Arkayna shouted.
"Maybe we need to retreat and come up with a new plan?" Em reasoned.
"No, we don't have time for that Mysticon Knight," Nova Terron told her.
"It's going to absorb everyone in the cosmoverse!" Piper said.
Zarya watched as the Spectral Hand almost consumed... her mother! She had had enough. Anger filled her. And she did something that she never thought she could do before.
She levitated off the ground, not hearing her fellow Mysticons calling out to her. She didn't understand what she was doing. She didn't understand what power she possessed. Levitation?
Zarya then let out a hurdling screech, and surprisingly... pushed back the Spectral Hand? Her eyes then started to glow white, she couldn't see anything.
Slowly, the Spectral Hand disintegrated, leaving no trace whatsoever. Everyone was overjoyed that the beast was destroyed. But Zarya looked like she sort of... fainted in mid-air, falling with her arms reaching out.
"Zarya!" Arkayna yelled running towards her. Her parents and Gawayne shortly followed.
Her stepfather held her in his arms as he fell to his knees. The royal family kneeled beside him, gazing at Zarya with fearful eyes.
"She's unconscious" Darius whispered.
"So she's alive?" Arkayna asked.
"She looks like she's breathing" Melody answered.
"She feels like she's breathing too," Darius added. "Maybe we should take her to the hospital," he suggested.
"Gawayne, call an ambulance" the queen ushered. Gawayne proceeded to pull his phone out of his pocket and dialed a number.
Soon, a portal opened up, revealing the ambulance as Melody requested. The paramedics then used magical orbs to lift Zarya from her father's arms. Before closing the doors, one of the paramedics told them the name of the hospital they would send Zarya to. Darius wrote it down and then thanked them, and told them to keep Zarya safe. The paramedics assured the royal family that everything would be fine and that they didn't have to worry.
Arkayna sunk into her mother's arms, tears streaming down her face. "Is she going to be alright?" she asked, concern filling her voice.
"Let's just hope" Darius whispered.
"I can't even do that anymore" Melody admitted.
And neither could Arkayna. God Zarya. Please be alright.
Melody and Arkayna sat there, staring into space, minds clouded with guilt, fear, and... loneliness.
Arkayna broke the silence a few hours later. "When is Dad coming?" she asked.
Her mother had her head down and whispered that she didn't know.
Arkayna then tried calling him, but the call just went straight to voice mail.
"Damn it," she muttered. "He didn't answer."
"Try calling him again" her mother instructed.
Arkayna dialed her father again, but... no answer.
Melody sighed. "Hang up," she said.
When Arkayna did hang up the phone, she scrolled down to the letter 'E' in her contacts.
She dialed that number instead. A few rings later, and she heard a tiny dwarven voice.
"Hey Arkayna," Emerald greeted over the phone. "Are you alright?" she asked in concern.
"Eh, been better" Arkayna snorted.
"I'm sorry," Emerald told her. "Um, Piper is here, in my house, and she... hasn't been feeling well," she said in a raspy voice. "Arkayna, she's scared. She said that she doesn't know whether Zarya will be okay or not."
Something in Arkayna's eyes flickered and she asked "You didn't tell her whether or not she's going to be okay or not, right?"
"I... I told her that Zarya was going to be fine and she didn't have to worry" Emerald said.
"Great Gygax, Em, you can't tell Piper that is going to be okay. We don't know that for sure" Arkayna told her.
Emerald was confused by Arkayna's statement. "Why not? She's just a kid" she said.
"No, she's not," Arkayna paused. "Piper is not a kid anymore. I promised her that... if something was actually wrong that I'd tell her the truth. I promised that I would stop treating her like a child." Arkayna sighed. "Where is she? Can you put her on the phone?"
"Sure" Emerald answered.
Arkayna couldn't hear anything over the phone for a few seconds. Until she heard a voice.
"Hey Arkayna," Piper whispered. "Is Zarya alright?"
"I don't know. The doctors haven't come out yet" Arkayna answered.
"Can you please call me as soon as she wakes up please?" Piper begged.
"Of course" Arkayna answered.
'Okay' was all that Piper could say.
"Later," Arkayna said. Shortly after she said it, she heard the two Mysticons say goodbye in return.
Arkayna rested her head on her mother's shoulder, and Melody wrapped her arms around her daughter.
"Mom, I'm sorry I was being a brat today," Arkayna whispered. "I guess after... so many months of you not being here that I just... wanted you to pay attention to me. I sort of forgot what comfort was. I just... miss you. And... you were right about the Dragon Disk. It's my fault Dreadbane got the Codex. I just wanted you back. He wouldn't have released Necrafa that way."
"I had a feeling Necrafa was released. I saw Necrafa's mask on Mallory's face, and she looked so... horrifying," Melody said. "But the fact that she was released because you wanted me and Darius back, that's... sacrifice. And it hurts."
"I'm sorry I left you. You were just... standing there. And the only thing I could think about at that moment was that you were safe. It was like I didn't care about anything else" Melody admitted.
"You remembered that day?" Arkayna asked, looking up at her mother.
"I couldn't exactly forget," Melody answered. "When he turned us to bone, it felt like a prison, almost. I was like all I could see was... darkness. And I just... stood there. Staring in complete darkness. It was all I could think about."
"I'm sorry Mom," Arkayna said breathlessly.
Melody felt her shoulder getting wet. A few sniffles later and she realized that her daughter was crying.
"It's okay," she assured. "I'm here now." She wiped her daughter's face with her free hand, causing Arkayna to cry even more.
Melody looked around to see everyone in the waiting room staring at the mother and daughter. Their faces depicted worry and sorrow for them.
"Hey," she whispered into Arkayna's ear. "People are staring at us. Just... try to relax, okay?"
Arkayna nodded, unable to speak. She wiped her tears herself, and sat up in her chair with her head down, having no intention of showing her face to anyone.
Two hours later, the doctor walked into the waiting room. "Your Highnesses. The princess is awake" he informed, gesturing to the double doors behind him.
The two stood up and quickly followed the doctor to Zarya's room.
Zarya was calmly lying down on the hospital bed, drinking from her juice box. Melody and Arkayna chuckled at the sight and briskly walked up to her.
"Hey," Melody cooed. "How are you feeling, sweetie?"
Zarya turned to look at the queen. "Weak," she said simply. "You don't mind holding up my juice box for me, do you?" she asked.
"No" Melody whispered taking the juice box from Zarya.
Arkayna watched her mother feed her sister for the longest time before asking, "Did you know that you could do that?"
"That I could scream like that?" Zarya asked for confirmation. Arkayna nodded. "No," Zarya answered shaking her head. "It was kind of scary."
"Well, you certainly scared us. We were so worried" Melody said, brushing a finger over Zarya's cheek.
"I'm sorry I scared you," Zarya whispered. "The truth is... I don't even know what's happening to me" she said, tears falling down her eyes.
"It's okay, Zarya. Don't cry," Arkayna said. "It's going to be alright."
"Are the doctors going to keep me here and experiment on me?" Zarya asked fearfully.
"No, baby. We wouldn't let them do that," Melody assured. "Why would you think that?"
"I don't know," Zarya whispered truthfully. "I just... don't want them to hurt me."
"You'll be fine, Zarya," Arkayna assured. "Just... make sure you tell Piper that as well" she warned.
"Oh, Piper. She must've been horror-struck" Zarya said sorrowfully.
"Yeah," Melody said simply. "Changing the topic. Um, when do you think you'll start walking again?"
"Walking is the least of my worries right now," Zarya said. "Do you think it's like my special Mysticon ability since I don't exactly have one yet?" she asked her sister.
Arkayna thought about it for a moment. "I guess," she shrugged. "But that doesn't explain why you bleed from your nose."
"I was bleeding from my nose?" Zarya asked in almost complete shock. Arkayna nodded.
"I had to wipe it off with a tissue when we got in the ambulance" Melody informed.
"That's weird. I rarely have nose bleeds. The only time that I do bleed is when it's... too hot" Zarya said, rubbing her chin.
"Well, it wasn't that hot" Melody pointed out.
"Is something wrong with me?" Zarya asked.
"The doctors don't know. No one knows" Melody answered.
"This is scary, Zarya. It's the first time I've seen you this... weak" Arkayna admitted.
"You're afraid of me, aren't you?" Zarya asked.
"No, we..." Arkayna started, earning a look from Zarya. "Kind of."
Zarya started crying again. "I'm sorry," she whimpered. "I was just... so angry and I..."
Zarya felt like something suddenly struck through her. Her body tingled, and she started squirming.
"Mom," she gasped. "It hurts!"
"What hurts?" Melody asked frantically.
"Everything!" Zarya screamed.
"Go call a doctor" Melody instructed Arkayna. Arkayna immediately rushed out of the room to alert the doctors.
Zarya's head was pounding, her throat was sore, and she felt like her bloodstream came to a halt.
What is happening to me?
End of the first chapter. Hope you enjoy this story. This story was already on Wattpad with 14 chapters, so I decided I'd add it here as well. Keep in mind that I started this in July last year, so some of it might sound weird. Also, this was definitely before I had Grammarly (big flex, I know). Trust me, the story does get better. Anyway, please comment, and share. Peace!
