Where was he?
This wasn't his warm comfy bed. Was he dreaming? This wasn't like his previous dreams. He didn't see anything. All he saw was a black void with no end in sight. He was scared, this was a nightmare. He never had nightmares like this. His nightmares usually consisted of him being chased through the forest by giant fat smiling humans that wanted to eat him. This dream contained absolutely nothing and it scared him. He looked all around but saw the same black empty void. He sat down with a soft whine, pressing his legs tightly up to his chest.
"Devron..." A voice called out.
He gasped as he heard his name being called out. The voice seemed to be coming from everywhere. Suddenly a figure came into view. He couldn't make out many details, only that it seemed like a...melting skeleton. He only was able to get a glimpse of the thing for a second before it vanished. Devron was still in the process of comprehending what he had just saw when the dreamscape vanished and he woke up.

Devron awoke to a loud sound. He had no idea what it was at the time. The sound reminded him of fireworks but without the crackle. And he could hear many of them. Devron instinctively covered his ears, the sound was loud, and he was scared. He could hear his parents sprinting down the hall towards his room and some of his worries went away. He quickly threw off the covers, his small form hopping off the bed. His black fur was on edge and his instincts were telling him to hide. The door opened and his parents burst in. Like him, his parents were cat monsters. Devron's dad had thick black fur and blue eyes while his mom had thick tan fur and red eyes.
"Mommy, Daddy whats going on?" Devron asked as he ran to embrace them.
A series of screams caused tears to fall from Devron's eyes and his mom embraced the small monster tighter. His dad went to the window, pulling back the blinds and gasping.
"What is it honey?" Devron's mom asked.
Devron's dad cursed under his breath and turned back to his wife and son. "I...I think there are humans out there, over a dozen...no two dozen...get Devron into the basement now!"
Devron's dad had turned back to the window for just a second while he was explaining the situation and saw a group of humans making their way to the families household.
Devron's mom quickly grabbed her son and they fled out of the room. They sprinted down the long corridor and stopped at a large wooden door.
"Inside quickly!" Devron's mom shouted. Devron quickly ran down the small flight of stairs and into the basement where he hid in a closet.
Devron listened closely, why weren't his parents following him down into the basement? He was about to step out and tell them to come down when he heard the sound of the front door breaking down and the shouting of what he assumed were humans.
His mother screamed and his father growled and then he heard a series of those loud bangs. Devron gasped and covered his ears, he was sobbing again and this time uncontrollably. He knew he had to stay quiet, but he just couldn't. Although he didn't know what those bangs were, he knew that his parents were dead.
"Search the house!" A voice shouted from upstairs.
The sound of the basement door being kicked open was heard and pairs of thundering footsteps came down the stairs. Devron tried desperately to stop sobbing but it was too late, the humans were approaching the closet.
"I can hear one in here, let's light it up!" Devron didn't know what that meant, but he had a feeling he wouldn't survive to find out.
"Relax boys, remember we need a live specimen." Another voice was heard and the previous one groaned.
"Open up the closet." The other voice said.
Devron gasped as the closet was swung open. In front of him were about a dozen humans, at least he assumed they were humans. They were covered head to toe in a strange armor, as well as equally strange helmets. They each held a strange device in both hands. Most of the humans had it pointing straight at him. Devron assumed it was some sort of magic weapon.
"Well look what we have here!" A voice cried out. A human stepped forward puffing out smoke from a cigar.
He had bright green eyes, a thick beard and a bald head, and pale skin that looked like it hadn't seen the sun in years.
The human sighed, throwing his cigar on the ground and stomping on it. "What's your name kid?" He asked. The weapons that were pointed at him had been lowered and the other humans were now looking at him strangely.
"D-Devron..."
The mans brow furrowed slightly before he smiled.
"The names Elliot, Captain Elliot."
The mans introduction had him confused. Captain? The only place he had heard the term captain were in stories of pirates that his parents read to him. But...they were gone now. And Devron knew these men had killed them.
Devron's gaze hardened. "You killed my parents, didn't you."
The mans smile fell and the other humans seemed to tense, their grips on their weapons hardening.
The man grinned a sinister grin and then spoke.
"Listen son, I'm offering you an opportunity to come with us. Your family and friends aren't getting that chance. So either you come with us, or you join your parents, you're choice."
Devron's claws unsheathed and he snarled. "No."
Elliot sighed. "I knew it wouldn't be that easy, Fred will you?" The man nodded towards another human who stepped towards Devron. Devron growled and jumped towards the human. The human brought the butt of his weapon up and down on the child's head, knocking him out.
"Perfect, bring him back to base, we drink tonight!" Elliot exclaimed and the humans cheered.

New York
A knock sounded on the door. The man who knocked let out an exhausted sigh as he heard a growl come from the other side of the door.
"Listen uh, Elliot wants me to release you so I'm going to do that alright?" The man nervously asked. When he didn't hear a response he shook his head and pulled open the large metal door.
Inside was Devron. He was now a lot older, his fur thicker. He was now a lot taller with a very muscular build. He had a large vertical scar just above his right eye. He wore a simple black short sleeve shirt as well as a pair of jeans. His room was a simple room akin to a solitary confinement cell except with heavily reinforced walls.
The man breathed in a shaky breath. "You are free to go."
Devron glared at the man before standing up. The mans breath caught in his throat as the monster walked closer to him. He was just about seven feet, towering over most humans he had encountered.
Devron walked past the man, paying no mind to the several guards stationed in the hallway. He walked for a minute before reaching another large metal door and opening it. He found himself in a large lobby area. Various people were walking about. Actually, on second thought they were fleeing. Looking up he saw the upper level and a dozen or so Military Police standing, guns at the ready.
Suddenly a voice sounded throughout the room, originating from a loud speaker. "Lower your weapons, haven't we gone over this? Having an armed squad following him everywhere ain't going to make him like us any better."
Devron recognized the voice as Elliot who had been promoted recently to Colonel. Devron snarled, he hated Elliot but he never forgot the fact that he let him live...only to become a weapon of war for the Americans.
Taking a right Devron walked out the door and into the morning summer air. Devron sighed in content, taking in a breath of fresh air. He had only been imprisoned for a few days but it felt like years. Devron snarled at the thought of what at happened. Why was it him that was imprisoned and not the soldier that had attacked him? It wasn't fair, he injured the soldier in self defense.
Devron shook his head, the humans always blamed him. Making his way to the side of the base he saw a small fence that led into a path in the woods. Devron nodded to the guards and they opened the gate. He walked for a few minutes before he emerged in a clearing. In the middle of said clearing was a small house. It was specifically built for him. Why you may ask? Well the humans actually didn't want him around more than they needed, and by giving him a house they were giving him their trust. Or they thought they were. The woods had cameras everywhere so the only privacy he had was in his own home. But even the humans tried to put in cameras in his house. Elliot and the ones responsible for him refused saying that Devron probably would go crazy if his one safe space was taken from him.
Opening the front door Devron smiled. The smile was small but expressed the joy he felt. He was now alone to his own devices. Throwing some logs into the fireplace, Devron sat on his couch, reflecting the weeks events.
Devron sighed, he couldn't get his imprisonment out of his head. If the humans were trying to keep him contained then why keep him around at all?
After Devron was captured the U.S army decided to use him as a tool to fight battles. So they trained him, gave him time to learn his magic. He hadn't started fighting battles yet. The Commander and Chief had just given the go ahead to start using him in combat. Mostly because of they were losing ground in the war in the Middle East. and second because they believed he was fully trained and ready to start fighting. He wouldn't be fighting in large scale battles however and for two reasons. The main reason was that they needed him to survive so sending him into large battles would likely get him killed. And second, hardly anyone knew about him. The public didn't know shit besides rumors, most high ranking military officers didn't know anything either. Instead he was kept within a top secret U.S army Division known as the U.S.C.S.A who was responsible with wiping out any remaining monsters still living on the surface, making sure nuclear weapons don't fall into enemy hands, frequent suicide missions, and protecting precious experiments such as Devron.
Devron sat up, reaching for one of the various books on his large bookshelf. He sat back down, content with sticking his muzzle in the book for a few hours when a knock came at the door. Devron groaned, why couldn't he just have a few hours of peace and quiet?
His tail slapped angrily on the side of the couch. He intended to ignore whoever it was.
A few seconds later the knock was heard again, this time louder. Devron growled angrily, slamming his book on the coffee table. "I'm coming!" He shouted and stood up, stomping angrily over to the door and pulling it open. His angry face dropped and was replaced by a curious expression. A young woman stood at the door. The medals adorning her uniform indicating that she was an officer. She had light tan skin complete with bright green eyes. Her hair was pulled back into a bun. Devron was caught analyzing her curves, he hadn't seen very many human females and was always curious when he saw one. And now that he found himself this close to one he found he was analyzing her, perhaps a little too closely.
The woman raised an eyebrow at the monster before rolling her eyes. "I'm right here, not wherever you're looking." The woman said pointing to her face.
Devron blinked realizing what he had been doing, looking away to hide the hue of redness that was forming on his cheeks.
"I know you're wondering why I've intruded on your 'property' Well I'll answer that. We've received intel that a group of Iranian commandos have infiltrated Fort Ebott just a dozen miles south from here, what they want we don't know. You've been ordered to accompany us."
Devron's eyes grew. He hadn't faced real combat and had been anticipating a moment like this. One of the things that kept him in overall good behavior was the knowledge that he would get to slaughter humans someday. He had always wanted to kill a human since the day his parents died. It seems that day had now arrived.
Behind the woman was a Blackhawk helicopter. Turning on her heels she walked towards the vehicle. "Gear up, we will be waiting."
Devron's heart was pumping fast and he raced back into the house, sprinting down to his room and practically tearing open the closet. In front of him was a suit of black armor, similar to the royal guards armor, except it was thinner, with no helmet. Devron quickly ripped off his clothes and put on the armor. He also had a black skull mask which he put on. And the last thing, a black robe. Putting it on made it so the only way someone would tell that he was a monster is from the large black fussy tail poking out from the robe and his furry hands.
Devron walked out of his house, walking towards the Blackhawk helicopter. The woman nodded to him before the two climbed into the helicopter. Devron scoffed as he realized he had to sit next to two humans. They both looked equally as irritated as him.
In total there were twelve of them. "Alright listen up." She began to speak as the helicopter roared to life.
"Iranian Commandos have taken control of Fort Ebott. What they want we don't know. Our orders are to take back the base. We will be joined by three other squads during this assault, any questions?"
Devron spoke up. "What's the significance of Fort Ebott?" The woman looked rather surprised at the question.
"I'm actually surprised you care. Fort Ebott is a small base a few miles from MT.Ebott. It's more of a research station than anything. I can't tell you anything more, it's classified. But you should be able to connect the dots."
And Devron had some idea what she was talking about. The base was likely researching the barrier, or the underground itself.
The helicopter grew quiet for the next few minutes until one of the soldiers spoke.
"Why do we need him again, couldn't we do just fine on our own?"
The woman stared at the soldier with confusion. "Of course you could, but why wouldn't you want a magic wielding cat to do most of the work for you? He increases our chances of survival, I'm all for that." The woman said with a grin.
Devron scoffed. "I'm not a cat..."
The woman chuckled, a few of the soldiers chuckling as well.
"Well I don't really know what to call you. You look at lot like a cat to me." She said. Devron glared. "It's just my appearance, I'm far more intelligent than a cat."
The woman shook her head in amusement. "I know you're not a goddamn cat, we're just playing with you kitty."
That sent the soldiers roaring in laughter. Devron's glare intensified and he clenched his paws. Then his gaze softened and he unclenched his paws. These insults were friendly insults. They were joking with him and being friendly...but why?" Devron felt slightly ashamed at having gotten mad at her. He was still cautious though. He never once had been friendly with a human, and all of a sudden a few humans laughing and joking with him? Devron saw that as suspicious.
The sound of three additional helicopter blades were heard. Devron looked out the window and saw three additional helicopters flying alongside them.
"Ma'am the LZ is approaching, touching down now." The pilot said.
"Copy that." The woman said.
The helicopters touched down in a large field surrounded by woods all on all sides. Devron and the soldiers stepped out to meet the other squads.
The helicopters left shortly after and the soldiers formed up into their respective squads.
Devron was eyeing the soldiers wearily. They didn't seemed frightened or even concerned by his presence. Devron felt a tug on his arm and turned around to see the same woman from earlier.
"You've been put under my command and I'm responsible for you, please don't make my job any harder than it needs to be, I don't need you getting into any fights with my men." The woman sternly said, her arms crossed.
Devron's eyes went wide. He hadn't guessed the captain who found them fighting told everyone about it. Devron glared at her. "I don't intend to harm any of your men, unless they attack me like before. I've been ordered to assist you and I will do that, you won't need to worry about me m..." Devron trailed off. He just realized he didn't even know her rank.
"It's Captain, Captain Lindsey." The woman now revealed to be named Lindsey grinned. Devron rolled his eyes, he didn't care much anyways.
Lindsey stepped to the front of the group and began to explain the mission details.
"Alright listen up boys! Fort Ebott is only two miles from our location. So here's what we'll do. We will split our platoon into two large squads. Once we near the base our finest snipers will take out any guards in the watchtowers. From then we will rush the base, eliminate the enemy presence and retrieve all necessary info from the base. Any questions?"
Everyone stayed silent. Lindsey smiled. "Let's get a move on then."
The group of just under fifty marched through the forest in perfect formation. Devron felt out of place within the massive group of humans. About thirty minutes of walking and Lindsey walked up beside him. Devron raised an eyebrow behind his mask at her. Her expression was serious. "Please don't do anything stupid, for me and my men's sakes."
"What do you mean?" Devron asked although he already knew what she meant.
Lindsey sighed. "I've thoroughly checked your record, you haven't been in combat but reports from combat instructors say you fight like an animal." Devron saw a slight tug at the women's lips as she said that last part.
"And?"
Lindsey scoffed at him. "And? I don't need you going on a blood thirsty rampage."
"Wouldn't that benefit us?" Devron asked.
"Yeah, you'd get rid of the hostiles but I don't need you harming my men." She stated.
Devron glared at her. "First you show enthusiasm towards me being here and now you are worrying I'll slaughter this platoon?" Devron asked, raising his voice a little to loud. Some of the soldiers stopped walking and stared in his direction, grips firmly held on their weapons. Lindsey let out a huff and motioned for them to back off.
"Listen, I just want my men to come back in one piece. Do I think it's cool that we have a giant cat helping us? Hell yes. Am I going to still be cautious and remind you to control yourself despite thinking these things? Hell yes. I don't know what you are capable of. That shit wasn't on your record. And because it wasn't I'm going to assume you are a lot stronger than you look. I have perfectly valid reasons for being cautious, now back off." She raised her voice and pushed a finger into his chest. By now the entire platoon had stopped to watch the incident unfold. Devron took a step back with a low growl. Lindsey let out a huff, her cheeks red with fury and stomped off to join the front of the group. Devron watched her go, he was honestly quite surprised by that whole thing. Not that she had gotten mad or anything, but that she was right. Devron sighed, mentally admitting defeat and began to continue walking.
A few feet behind him someone whistled. Devron turned to see a young soldier with a grin on his face. The soldier had red hair, green eyes and several freckles dotted his face.
"She's always like that. She'll be yelling at you till she loses her voice, then next she'll be sucking your cock and calling you daddy." Devron scrunched up his face and looked down at the young human.
"Really?"
The soldier laughed. "No not literally, but that's what me and boys came up with to describe her personality. I'm telling you she hated me my first couple months. I was always teasing, joking, pranking like any teenager would. But then she started doing the joking the teasing and the pranking."
Devron was confused. Not by the story, that was weird too. He was mostly confused by how friendly the human was. He recognized this one from the helicopter. These humans were all much friendlier than the ones he was used to.
"Why are you all so nice?"
The young soldier looked up and raised a brow.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"All the humans I have met have either ignored me, ran from me, screamed orders in my face, beat me, or left me in a cell for weeks with no food."
The soldier looked surprised before whispering. "None of that was on your file, it's probably classified. I wouldn't go around telling people that stuff."
Devron let out a sigh as he scratched the back of his head.
"And uh, we all know who you are. Everyone in the U.S.C.S.A does. Also, the amount of crazy shit that we do, we aren't really surprised that the military would remove a monster from its home and train it to become a super soldier. Actually when most of us heard we were pretty excited."
Devron nodded slowly. "Lindsey doesn't seem too thrilled though..."
"Remember what I told you? Sh-"
"I get it, I get it!" Devron blurted out in a frustrated manner.
The soldiers in the front of the platoon stopped including Lindsey who turned and waited for the rest of the troops to make it to their position.
Lindsey turned and pointed to a large clearing below the small cliff they were on. In the center of the clearing stood a surprisingly small military base. It was surrounded by strong walls each corner having a watchtower. In the center was a two story building that had a satellite dish on it. Devron could make out MT.Ebott just a few miles off and his breath caught in his throat. He knew of all the others like him that were trapped down there. And he couldn't do anything to help them. For all he knew they were all dead.
The voice of the Captain snapped Devron out of his thoughts. Shaking his head he looked towards the Fort below.
"Chase, Kevin set up your rifles here, fire on my signal. The rest of you are with me." Lindsey said in a commanding tone. Though Devron wasn't all to happy she had yelled at him, he admired her sense of authority. He'd never seen a female ordering men around like the Captain had just been doing. He didn't even remember if the females were allowed back in his village to join the village guard.
Devron and the Soldiers were just behind the tree line, any further and the Commandos would surely see them. That's what the Snipers were for. The Snipers would get rid of the watchtower guards allowing the platoon to climb down the small cliff. Devron was going to jump off the cliff when Lindsey grabbed him by the arm.
"Are you crazy? They will know we are here if you do that!" Lindsey shouted.
Devron looked down are her. "I could easily clear the outside of the building alone. If not I could by you all time." Devron replied, yanking his arm back.
Lindsey sighed and shook her head disapprovingly.
"You don't know that, you've never been in combat." Lindsey said.
Devron let out a low snarl in annoyance. "If you've seen my training then you know I am more than capable of eliminating a small force." He retorted.
Lindsey gave the monster an annoyed look. "You are probably right but orders are orders, you have to stay in my or another soldiers sight at all times. Please, just go with the flow, understand?"
Devron blinked under his mask. He looked around the other soldiers who were now muttering amongst themselves, most likely about him. He had halted them twice now, and the Soldiers, as trigger happy as they were didn't like that. Devron sighed, looking back down at the Captain.
"Yes Ma'am." Devron said. Lindsey grinned and turned to the two snipers.
Devron felt a tap on his shoulder and spun around. It was the same young soldier he had spoke with previously.
"I'm telling you, give it a few days and she will be brushing your tail."
Devron looked down at him. The soldier had again approached him. What did he want?
"What's your name?" Devron asked.
The young soldier slightly taken a back by the sudden question hesitated on his reply.
"U-uh, Maxwell...that's my name." The Soldier replied hesitantly.
BANG
BANG
Devron and Maxwell spun around to see smoke rising the barrels of the two Snipers rifles. Lindsey was standing behind them and was looking down at the base through a pair of binoculars.
"The guards are down, good work you two!" She exclaimed and turned back to the platoon. She put her helmet on and loaded her M4 assault.
"Let's give em hell boys!"
Five soldiers stepped towards the edge of the cliff and threw down ropes. One by one the soldiers climbed down the cliff, the Snipers firing at any enemies that's dared climb the watchtower. Devron stared down the cliff, readying to jump. His feet left the ground and he sailed past the descending humans and landed with a grunt on the ground. He began to sprint towards the base along with the few soldiers that had already reached the ground.
He was now only a few dozen meters from the base. He could see the scrambling of soldiers behind the large barbed wire fence that blocked his path. He could have just jumped over it, but he had to clear a path for the soldiers.
Devron stopped in front of the gate, a dozen commandos were behind it with their guns drawn. Devron's right hand began to glow orange and a small fireball formed. Quickly the fireball grew until it was so large that he needed to hold it with two hands. With a growl Devron released the projectile, sending it spiraling towards the gate.
The gate lit up in a firey explosion, sending the gate flying towards the commandos. The commandos split from their formation and fled. A few unlucky souls were hit by the fiery gate and were crushed. Unsheathing his claws, Devron charged into the base, and grabbed one of the Commandos by the head. The monster roared in the soldiers face and sunk his claws deep in the mans chest and through his heart. Devron released the corpse, fresh crimson dripping down his claw. Devron looked down at the claw and grinned behind his mask. Looking to the other soldiers he saw that they had just began to get up. Devron let out a war cry and charged the first Commando he saw. The Commando desperately fired his weapon at Devron, the bullets bouncing harmlessly off his armor. Devron jumped into the air and pounded down on the soldier with both claws, ripping out the mans throat.
Devron felt multiple bullets bounce off his armor. And turned seeing a commando firing from a distance. Devron snarled and threw a smaller fireball at the soldier, causing him to fly back as flames covered his body.
Scanning the area Devron spotted another Soldier crouching and firing his weapon just a few meters from him. Jumping to his feet Devron ran towards the soldier faster than any human could and used a claw to slice the enemies head clean off. Devron heard half a dozen pairs of footsteps running towards him he smirked, turning to meet the soldiers who stopped in their tracks. Devron was covered in crimson head to toe.
Devron let out a roar and began his dance of death. He cut heads, incinerated bodies, ripped bodies in half and the list goes on.
Devron pivoted to face the last remaining Commando who had dropped his weapon and was shaking profusely. Before Devron could gut him a bullet tore through the soldiers skull and they crumbled to the floor. Devron turned to see Maxwell standing at the entrance of the gate, his assault rifle smoking. He and the rest of the platoon stood in shock. Devron was covered in blood an entrails. There was hardly anything left of the bodies the monster had left in his wrath. Most were missing limbs and weren't in one piece. Some were in more than two.
Lindsey inspected the carnage around her. She was surprised like the rest of her men. But not for the same reason. This monster had just killed an two squads of Commandos in under a minute. These commandos had grown to be feared throughout the war. Small squads of them would be able to defend bases against entire companies. And Devron just walked on in and gutted the defending squad, leaving the last one standing shaking and crying. This was unheard of. This mission was going to be over a lot sooner than she or any of her men had initially thought. Maybe she wouldn't go crazy having him around after all.
Lindsey snapped out of her shock and turned to her men who were staring at the scene in awe. "This isn't a magic show, come on we still have a job to do!" She shouted.
The soldiers quickly scrambled into the base, securing the perimeter around the building. Lindsey approached Devron who nodded to. She sighed, her face a mix of annoyance and amusement.
"I know I told you to stay with me at all times but this..." She turned and pointed to carnage that Devron had left in his wake.
"This is impressive, messy but impressive..." Lindsey trailed off as she analyzed the corpses further.
"Follow me, we are going to infiltrate the main building." Lindsey, followed by Devron and eight soldiers made their way to the front entrance of the building.
The soldiers formed a half circle and aimed their weapons towards the doors. Lindsey walked up to the doors and pulled at them. The doors didn't budge.
Lindsey turned to face the soldiers. "They must be locked from the inside, Axal set a charge."
"Wait." Devron said.
Lindsey looked up at him with an annoyed expression.
"Not no-"
Devron stepped in front of the doors and pulled back a paw. Upon releasing the paw the strength of the punch caused the doors to fly off it's hinges and into the lobby, hitting multiple Commandos in its wake. Seeing the group of soldiers Devron snarled and ran inside, grabbing a commandos neck and crushing it. Devron handled the corpse by the head and legs and threw it over his head at a group of commandos that burst through a side door. Devron used his claws to cut down two more commandos before the rest were gunned down by the soldiers.
Devron looked to the approaching soldiers in a twinge of annoyance. He had wanted to finish that fight.
Lindsey's radio buzzed and she quickly grabbed it off her belt. A male voice then came from the radio. Devron glared at the small device upon hearing the voice.
"Captain, get back to base immediately!" The voice of Elliot shouted over the radio.
Lindsey looked perplexed. She hesitated for a few seconds before speaking.
"C-Colonel I'm currently in the process of tak-"
"Forget it, something has come up and I need you, your team and Devron back here now!" Elliot exclaimed, urgency prevalent in his tone.
Lindsey glanced up at Devron before sighing.
"Jaguar team, follow me, the rest of you continue taking this base." Lindsey ordered as she pocketed her radio.
Four of the soldiers began to form up and march down the hall while the rest, including Maxwell followed Lindsey towards the front door of the base.
Devron paused, something wasn't right here. For a second he didn't know what it was Then he realized what it was, and why it wasn't right. He could hear it, movement behind him. The familiar sound of a magazine clicking into place was heard and Devron spun around.
A Commando, bloodied, bruised and missing a leg was raising his side arm. The weapon was not being aimed at him however, but at Maxwell. And the kid didn't even realize it.
Realizing what the Commando was going to do, Devron threw himself at Maxwell, his large paws wrapping around the young mans back. Then he spun around, arching his back and keeping the human close. Not even a second after Devron had put the human out of harms way, the sound of a low caliber round discharging could be heard.
The bullet impacted with Devron's upper back, his armor causing the bullet to bounce off harmlessly and land a few feet away from the Commando.
Lindsey's eyes grew and she quickly raised her rifle and quickly discharged a short three round burst into the commandos chest, killing him.
Maxwell clung to the furry creature for dear life. As Devron had spun, he caught a glimpse of the Commando. The young man, realizing how close to death he had just been had pressed himself as close as he possibly could against the monster, his arms clutching Devron's sides.
Devron breathed a sigh of relief. He dreaded to think what would happen if he failed to save the soldier. What punishment would Elliot and his friends come up with? He didn't want to know. He looked down, seeing the human clinging to him for dear life. What was just a minute ago an enthusiastic, talkative, battle hungry, and annoying Soldier was now clinging to him as if there was no tomorrow.
Placing his paws on the humans side, he quickly pried the soldier off him, and placed him back on the ground, taking a step back and moving his eyes to the soldiers. They were mostly shocked. Devron was able to grab Maxwell, which was out of a normal humans grabbing distance and spin him around to safety in just over a second. Slowly what just occurred fully dawned on them and they began to look at the Monster with much more respect than they had previously.
Lindsey was very well surprised as well. This monster, this killing machine had gone out of his way to put himself in harms way for one of her men. Upon realizing this any negative thoughts concerning Devron all but collectively vanished. And she began to look at him with a new found admiration, grinning upon seeing Maxwell clinging to the large cat. Walking over to the two she rested a hand on the young mans shoulder.
"Are you alright?"
Maxwell, still breathing heavily nodded. "I-I'm alright Captain, just shaken up that's all."
Lindsey removed her hand and glanced up at Devron, her grin returning. "Honestly, in a situation like this I didn't think you'd put yourself in harms way for any of my men. I'm glad I was wrong, you have my thanks."
Devron looked down at her, staying silent.
"Y-Yeah, thanks for saving my ass...I-I really appreciate it." Maxwell said, he was staring up at the monster with wide gleaming eyes as if he had just been saved by an angel.
Lindsey let out a sigh. "Geez, you two keep this up and I'll be finding fur all over your quarters Maxwell."
Maxwells eyes grew, and he turned his head as a red hue lit up on his cheeks.
Devron sighed, shaking his head in disapproval while the soldiers chuckled. Lindsey turned on her heel. "Let's not keep our evac pilot waiting." And with that, the group made their way out of the building.
Devron was bemused, not all humans were evil like he previously thought. How could that even be possible?
As Devron made his way to the evac helicopter, he could have sworn he saw the outline of a melting skeleton waving to him on the cliffside...

Hello readers! I just wanted to say a few things before I go.
First off, those coming from Slayer of Souls, don't worry. I haven't abandoned that story and the final chapter will hopefully be released by the end of the year.
And second I'm going to make a few things clear. Firstly this isn't primarily a war story. It's a story about Devron and his experiences fighting for the humans. This means I won't be going into many details regarding the war, and the reasons behind it.
Second, I know some are going to point out what little this story actually has to do with undertale, and I'm fully aware of this. The most undertale thing about this story is Devron himself. But this is the point.
And third, this story won't be that long. Let me explain. This story serves as a prequel to a much larger and ambitious story that I plan to write. And as this story wasn't already ambitious enough.
That's pretty much all I had to say. If you'd like to leave a review than feel free to. Also, I'll be answering questions in the beginning of chapters.
Until next time.
