The moonlight bathed a thin and narrow alleyway, as a young black tom inspected the cats. Nudging a bright ginger she-cat who smiled at him as he pushed past, a pale ginger tabby she-cat sat a little while off staring at her paws.
"How are you holding up?" he asked, pausing to rest his paw on her side.
"Better I suppose…"
The black tom looked into her eyes, as he received images of two young kits bouncing around the small nook of their home; his heart warm before an image of himself leading said kits away. "I'm sorry about what happened to Hazel and Frost… I tried my best to make sure everyone made it back."
"You are just as young as they were, there was only so much that you could do anyway… Slash was so sure they wouldn't have made it anyway." She muttered.
The black tom nodded slowly before he relaxed his shoulders, as he took a deep breath preparing himself to speak. "I wish I could say they put up a good fight, I truly do… but we were outnumbered… with something way stronger than we could imagine." He murmured.
"Thank you Shade." The she-cat meowed, pressing her muzzle into his shoulder.
Shade nodded as he draped his tail over her shoulders, before departing her side to press forward towards the far end. However he stopped in his tracks, a strange scent flooding his scent glands. As he turned to look over his shoulder there was a strange transparent dark bluish gray cat standing at the end of the alley.
As the moonlight touched the clearing down below, a black and white tom sat alone staring up at the night sky. Prayers whispered under his breath, as he hoped for some kind of sign.
"Well, good evening Swiftstar… I hoped that you would be back in your bed." The tom was drawn to the pale brown tabby she-cat behind him.
"Good evening Rabbitpounce, I was just about to head back in fact." He meowed before getting up onto his paws, and heading towards the small nook between two boulders.
The pale brown tabby she-cat ran up to his side. "I just want to make sure, do you need some company?"
"Ravenstar, Maplestar, and Birdfeather will keep me company." He muttered.
"Stop!" the she-cat ordered.
Ravenstar halted as he turned his head to look into her gaze, she looked off to the side. "I understand that every other clan has their chosen cat, but I wouldn't fret too much about it… StarClan will bring them to us just as the sun will set." She assured.
"It's not just that, StarClan is with us… but we do not have a access point to receive our nine lives, if any other leader dies…"
"It won't happen, we will all be fine." Rabbitpounce answered as she slammed her paw down on one of his.
Swiftstar took a deep breath before he looked into the she-cat's eyes. "Thank you Rabbitpounce, you will make a fine leader one day. Perhaps you are right… but we should be more careful with every clan…"
"We don't want another situation like what happened with Molestar."
