The end of the battle
I am no professional, and am doing this for fun. This is a dramione fanfic, so if you don't like it, please read some of my other fanfics. I do accept reviews and some criticism, but please don't be mean.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters, as they were all created by J.K. Rowling.
Hermione's POV
The battle of Hogwarts had just finished. Everyone was covered in blood, and there were lots of people crowding around me, Harry, and Ron, thanking us for saving Hogwarts and all the magical population of England, but my thoughts were elsewhere. I was thinking about Ron Weasley. During the war, I had snogged him, and now all that's all I can think about. I'm trying everything that I can to distract myself from Ron, but somehow my thoughts always end up wandering back to him. I let my gaze wander over to Neville, who was also getting a lot of thanks from a lot of people. His grandmother was among the crowd, and Neville's ears were bright red. He normally is the one that gets in the way, so that fact that he destroyed one of "old Voldy's" horcruxes, was definitely surprising.
"So?" said a girl's voice beside me.
I turned to face Ginny, Ron's younger sister. She, like the rest of us, was covered in blood.
"So what" I asked, afraid she might know what was going on in my mind.
"How does it feel to be known as a legend?!" she exclaimed. "I wish I was with you guys while you were looking for …. er…. whatever it was that you were looking for. I could've helped!" Ginny pouted. I just laughed.
"First, we were looking for Voldemort's horcruxes, and I don't doubt that you could've helped. I wish that you were there, because Ron walked out and Disapparated because we needed to find four more horcruxes, and the sword of Gryffindor, and other random stuff. You probably could've got him to stay." I blabbered.
Ginny looked at me with a confused look on her face that made me laugh again.
"Nevermind." I said.
She instantly smiled.
"Good. because I didn't understand a single thing that you said other than the fact that Ron was being git, which is nothing out of the ordinary." said Ginny.
"Yeah." I said distracted.
Harry was cornered by Rita Skeeter, who was trying to get some kind of information and scoop about what happened in the earlier hours that she wasn't there for.
"Looks like your boyfriend needs a little bit of help getting away from that Skeeter cow." I pointed out. "I'll be right back."
"Okay, but he's not my boyfriend." Ginny called after me.
"Not yet." I yelled over my shoulder.
I walked over to Harry and Rita, and stopped beside Harry.
"...me what happened?" Rita was saying as I got closer.
"I'm not telling you anything." Harry replied defensively.
"Hi Rita." I said as cheerfully as i could manage, being covered in blood and having stayed up all night fighting Death Eaters.
"Oh, you." she said with disappointment.
I knew exactly why. Back in fifth year, I found out that she was an illegal animagus, and told her that I would tell the minister unless she wrote an honest interview with Harry for the Quibbler, the magazine company that Luna Lovegood's dad owns. Most people would think of that as blackmailing, but to me that was simply just bargaining. And anyway, Luna got an exclusive interview for her dad, Harry's name was cleared from his title as a liar, and Rita still has a good reputation. So I was doing a good thing right?
"Yes me. Why don't you stop hounding Harry and go get an interview from some of your beloved Slitherines?" I asked, putting a clear emphasis on the word 'beloved'.
Harry laughed, while Rita glowered.
"Fine! Good day Mister Potter and Miss Granger." she spat out.
Rita walked away still glowering towards a group of Slitherines.
"Thanks." Harry said, clearly relieved.
"Anytime." I replied. "To be honest, I didn't know that I would get rid of her so easily."
"So?" Harry said.
"Ugh. Why does everyone keep asking me that question?" I exclaimed.
"Well sorry. I just wanted to know when you're going to talk to Ron again." he said elbowing me.
"I don't know." I sighed.
Luckly, I was spared answering any more questions, because Ron came running up to us.
"Help!" he said with a trembling voice. "Lavender's running after me like there's no tomorrow!"
"She has been for the last two years." Harry reminded him.
Ron's face fell into a deep frown. "Oh. Right." he said
"Come with me." I said. "I know a place where she'll never find us."
I grabbed Ron's arm and we ran up to the Room of Requirement.
I need a place where no one will find me. I thought.
Just then a door appeared on the bare wall.
"Good idea." Ron said.
"Thank you, Ronald." I said as we stepped into the room.
There was a large rug on the floor and a couple of armchairs.
"Why do you call me 'Ronald' all the time?" Ron asked me.
"Because I know it annoys you." I replied.
Ron didn't say anything after that, so i felt a little guilty.
"I can stop if you want." I told him softly.
"Yeah, thanks." he replied almost instantly.
There was a slight pause, before Ron spoke up again.
"So, do you want to talk about ….. earlier?" he asked.
I knew immediately what he was referring to.
"I don't know," I sighed.
"Okay." Ron replied.
There was another awkward pause before Ron spoke again.
"Do I ever tell you that you're really beautiful?" he asked.
I felt really awkward now.
"No. Not really." i replied
"Oh" he said quietly. He hesitated, and I didn't say anything because I knew that he wanted to. "Well you are." he said, resuming his regular volume, which is slightly louder than a normal person.
"Thank you, Ron." I said with a smile.
"You're welcome." he said. We talked for a while longer, and I told Ron a story about how I accidentally cursed one of my cousins, with terrible acne, that she still can't get rid of. By the time I was finished the story, Ron was grinning wildly.
"I didn't think you had that in you, Hermione." he said, still grinning.
"Me either." I said.
Ron got up. "Lavender's probably looking for me in Gryffindor tower. We can go back down."
"Alright." I said getting up to stand next to him.
We walked back downstairs in complete silence. I checked my watch and saw that it was almost 7:30. Those awkward pauses must have been a lot longer than I thought. Or we were snogging for a lot longer than I thought. When we got back to the Great Hall, we saw that everyone was sitting at the five long tables, but there were no certain seating assignments. Everyone was sitting together, students, teachers, parents and ghosts. Me and Ron sat down at a table and not much later I heard Luna cry out.
"Oooh, look, a Blibbering Humdinger!" she called. Everyone looked over to where she pointed and I laughed. Good old Luna. I felt a tap on my shoulder, and looked back. Ron was also looking behind us, he felt it too.
"It's me." Harry's voice muttered. "Will you please come with me?" We stood up and left the Great Hall with Harry.
A couple hours later, we were back in the Great Hall, and Professor McGonagall was at the podium. We sat down at what used to be Gryffindor table, and Professor McGonagall made an announcement.
"To everyone in this hall, you have helped to save the whole world." she started. "The rest of the school year is cancelled, but the leaving feast will commence in one weeks time. So thank you all, but a special thank you to Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, Ginny Weasley, and Luna Lovegood. These six students went to the ministry and faced Lord Voldemort, also showing the Minister that he really was back. Harry, Ron, and Hermione skipped the school year to find and destroy the many horcruxes that Voldemort had created. I would also like to thank everyone who came from the safety of your home to fight alongside us. But for now, let us eat."
The tables were still draped in the crisp white tablecloths, only teared and covered in blood. Food, plates, and cutlery appeared on the tables, everyone started to eat. The Malfoys, who were standing in a corner together, sat down at a table and started eating as well. I had barely got one bite of my pancakes, when two men entered the hall.
Professor McGonagall stood up. "What is the meaning of this?" she said in a loud voice that wasn't yelling, nor talking normally.
The men walked forward. "We have been ordered to arrest all Death Eaters." one of them said.
"This is nonsense." Professor McGonagall argued back. "You will leave the school grounds, now."
"No can do madam." the other man said. He had a Texas sort of accent.
"Well I can assure you that there are no Death Eaters here." Professor Flitwick said.
The first man took a small piece of paper out of the pocket on his robes. "Lucius Malfoy and Draco Malfoy, are under arrest for fully associating with You Know Who." he said. "Minister's orders."
"That's not fair. Kingsley would never put anyone still in school under arrest unless they did something really terrible." I said, hardly knowing what I was doing.
"Hermione." Ron warned.
But it was too late. The men walked towards me.
"Oh yeah. Well sorry to burst your bubble, little girl, but these two men have done murder and if you didn't already hear, the were 'fully associated with You Know Who'." the one with the Texas accent said really close to my face. They went back to where the Malfoys were sitting and grabbed Lucius and Draco, dragging them outside. Narcissa got up, crying and pleading them to spare Draco. She followed them outside, then the professors followed, with Professor McGonagall calling out to Narcissa. After the professors, the rest of the school followed, most of them wanting to see more drama. When we got out, Narcissa was sobbing and talking to the men.
"Please. Let Draco go. He's just a boy. Take me instead. I called him to the other side. He helped Harry Potter. Please." she was saying.
The man holding Draco threw him down, taking Narcissa instead, who went without a fight.
"Fine." he said as the other man wrestled Lucius Malfoy away to Azkaban for the second time, while muttering threatening words to him that no one else could hear.
"Goodbye Draco." she said, as the man turned her around. Everyone watched as Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy got dragged off the school grounds.
"Well back inside with yer all." Hagrid yelled not even needing to.
All the students walked back inside, with the professors behind them. I walked over to Draco, who was still standing, looking out past the grounds. The silhouettes of the foursome against the horizon, still slightly visible.
"Draco?" I whispered.
He whipped around, tears falling from his eyes.
"What?" he said in a quiet, but menacing voice. "Here to brag about your perfect family?"
I'm sorry, what?! Did I imply that I was going to brag? I don't brag about anything. And my family is not perfect. No family is.
"No. I was going to ask if you're okay." I said.
"Do I look okay to you?" he shot back.
"Well I'm sorry for trying to help you." I said, turning around.
"No, I'm sorry." he said. I turned around, stunned. "You were just trying to help, and I was being a git. But yeah, I'll be fine, once I get over the fact that I've got to live in a huge house on my own for Merlin knows how long." he added quietly.
"I have an extra room at my house, I'm sure my parents won't mind if you stay for a while." I offered.
"Really?" Draco said
"Holy Herlin, I have to fix their memories!"
"What?"
"I modified their memories, so that they wouldn't have any information to tell if a Death Eater came and tried to get some out of them." I blurted out. "Gotta go."
I Disapparated to Australia, and started looking around. I then Disapparated to a tourist spot, and found my parents not long after. They were at an ice cream shop talking about something. I went close enough that they could see me if they looked around.
"Obliviate." I whispered.
Their expressions went blank for a little while, and then they were wearing very confused expressions. Like I thought, they started looking around.
"Are we in Australia?" my mum asked.
"Hermione?" my dad said, finally spotting me.
My parents stood up and walked toward me.
"Hermione, what happened?" my mum asked me.
I quickly told them everything.
"Also I was wondering if I could have a friend stay for a while." I added.
"Why are you covered in blood?" dad asked.
"Long story. But first we have to get you back to London. Where are your stuff?"
Half an hour later, mum and dad are finished packing, and we're ready to go back to London.
"We have to get plane tickets." mum said. "They'll probably be rather expensive."
"Nonsense." I said.
"Hermione. Are you sure you're okay? You're acting strange." dad said.
"I'm fine, but you seem to have forgotten that I have magic." I replied. With a flick of my wand, I sent the many suitcases and boxes to our house. Then I grabbed my parents hands and Disapparated to Hogsmeade. We ran up to the school where Madame Pomfrey was healing everyone.
"Miss Granger, please stop for a while." she said walking over to me and my parents.
I stopped and Madame Pomfrey started healing my wounds. I watched as my blood went back into the open gashes, and a layer of skin stretched over it. It looked really weird so I looked away. Ron and Harry ran toward me, their wounds healed, leaving only a few scars.
"HERMIONE, BLOODY HELL!" Ron yelled at me. "WHERE THE BLOODY HELL DID YOU GO?!"
"RONALD WEASLEY, STOP SAYING BLOODY HELL!" I yelled back. "I went to Australia to get my parents. I am allowed to do that, right?"
"Yes." Harry said, before Ron could say anything else.
I shook my head. "You're unbelievable."
He grinned. "I know."
Harry just rolled his eyes. "Oh. I have a pack of chocolate frogs in my bag."
"Say no more." Ron said. "Coming hermione?"
"Nope. I've got to do something." I replied.
He shrugged. "More for us. See ya."
They ran off somewhere, and I forgot that Madame Pomfrey was still there. She finished and left to go heal other people.
Draco walked over to me. "Just to be clear, you weren't lying or joking when you told me that right?" he said
It took me a minute to realize what he was referring to, but then it hit me. "Yeah, I was serious." Then I turned to my parents.
"This is Draco. I was wondering if he could stay for a while."
"Sure honey, just please don't burn down the house. You're father and I are going to the states to visit Aunt Karen for a month. You will be fine on your own, right?" mum said.
"Mum, I just fought a bunch of Death Eaters, and by extension, Lord Voldemort himself. I'll be fine." I said, hardly able to believe that even after that, they still don't know if they can leave me alone.
"Alright. We should get going." I turned to Draco again. "I'll send you an owl with my address. See you there."
Me, mum, and dad walked down to Hogsmeade and IDisapparated to our house. When we got there, I remembered all the boxes. One swish of my wand and everything was back in it's normal state, except for a few suitcases.
"I can Apparate you guys there, if you want." I told my parents.
"No thanks. I think I've had enough of this Apparating business for one day." dad said.
I noticed him getting a little dizzy and gave him a piece of chocolate.
"It'll help." I told my dad's confused expression.
"Alright, but we better get going if we want to catch our flight. Bye Hermione." dad said.
"See you in a month, sweetheart." mum said, giving me a hug.
"Bye mum, bye dad." I said.
I heard the motor start and then they were gone. I ran upstairs and wrote a quick letter to Draco. Somehow, there was an owl in my room, so I gave it the letter and asked it to send it to the Malfoy Manor. I have a feeling that this is going to be a very strange experience.
There it is. I know that it isn't getting too much into the whole Dramione thing yet, but I swear that it will get there. Please leave a review and tell me what you think.
