Douxie glanced down. The dark blue ring on his finger was dull as ever. With a sad sigh, he continued sweeping Merlin's workshop. He had been Merlin's apprentice for a few years now, and he was still sweeping floors!
The wizard apprentice looked at the ring again. Everyone had one, but only them and their soulmate could see it. The darker the ring, the farther your soulmate was.

Douxie's was so dark, it was practically black. I wonder, will I ever meet them if they are so far away? Douxie continued to push his broom. Maybe, by some luck he would meet the one meant for him.

The prince of Akiridion 5 sat in his room, tinkering with some random piece of robotics. His eyes caught on the ring again, a lonely feeling making him sigh. Krel put down the hunk of metal and pulled on the ring.

Tight as ever. It almost seemed tighter. His father told him that the farther you are from your soulmate, the tighter your ring was. And when you met them, the ring would disappear.

The prince stood up, and quietly strode to his window. The cyan and black city was alight with energy and laughter, and Krel felt like he was being crushed by his aloneness. Stepping away from the mirror, he walked to his bed and flopped down, breathing into the soft pillow.

Will I ever find the one for me?
