AN: So this isn't my story idea. This story was first uploaded by Annabel Jones on her account, under the name Unexpected. Unfortunately she couldn't finish it. I thought it was a great story and wanted to complete it for her. She agreed, hence why I'm posting this. The first chapters are all her doing ofc, and Ive edited some of them. I will try to match my writing style to hers and hope you'll enjoy this story. Thanks for reading :)
Unexpected
Chapter 1
Annabeth was in the park, enjoying the sunshine on her face with her boyfriend next to her when her day started to suck. After a whole summer of adventures too save the world and near death experiences, all she wanted was the world to cut her some slack. She had been debating with Percy on wether they should buy ice-creams at the ice-cream truck or get donuts when Percy had jumped to his feet and said :
"Did you hear that ?"
"Hear what ?" she asked.
"Here it is. Don't you hear it ?"
Annabeth could hear it, all right. It sounded like a car being torn into two pieces by a very violent giant- she had met giants and she knew what they sounded like. She jumped to her feet, wondering what she had done to the world to hate her so bad. Percy took Riptide out of his pocket in pen form. It didn't look that intimidating, but when he uncapped it, it turned into a three feet long Celestial bronze sword.
They jogged towards the sound of the ripping car, Percy with Riptide in his hand and Annabeth with a Lakonian drakon tooth (it was an excellent sword). As they got closer, the sound became louder and when they turned on the next street, Annabeth got a real look at the cause of the noise. Clawing at a car, was a huge lion, about 10 feet tall, with a weird tail made of spikes. When the beast turned over, as if it had sensed their presence, Annabeth realised with horror that it had a woman's face.
"Demigods," the lion-woman said her face lighting up as if she'd gotten a huge present."Excellent. You'll make such little fine feasts." She licked her lips and crouched like a cat before jumping on its prey.
"Wait, wait wait !" Annabeth interfered."Can we have a few last words, please ?"
"Last words ?: the monster asked, clearly confused.
"Well yeah. That's what people do when they're about to die, you know," Percy jumped in.
"All right. You have two minutes and no more," the she-lion chuckled.
"So generous," Annabeth mumbled. Percy could see Annabeth trying to find a plan and get them safe out of this place.
"So," Percy started, trying to buy them some time."A few things I'll miss when I'll be gone. Ice-creams, Annabeth, my mom, my friends, blue coke, and um, the beach, and, um, pizza, and uh-"
"Enough !" the she-lion interrupted. " I think I'll just kill you now" She crouched, her muscled tensed and-
"Wait !"Annabeth shouted."You're a Manticore !"
"A what now ? A what mint coke ?" Percy asked frowning.
The Manticore sniffed at the two demigods. "A Manticore, boy. It's spelled m-a-n-t-i-c-o-r-e. Well, if you were as smart at this one," she pointed her head in the direction where Annabeth was standing. "You'd know."
"See." Annabeth was smiling, now, She just needed to get to her backpack and her plan would work. "We could be, I dont know, maybe friends. If you just wait a minute, I have something to show you."
She turned her back on th Manticore, ignoring her instict that screamed at her not to, and opened her backpack, rummaging through it. But the she-lion apparently didn't like to wait and all Annabeth heard was a shout of warning from Percy. She turned around, just in time to see the Manticore's blurry form jump on her. Then, she hit her head and the world went black.
*.*.*
Annabeth was at the beach, walking with a tall boy with short-cropped blond hair. Luke, Luke Castallan. They had been talking about memories and old stories when Luke stopped short. Annabeth joined him, puzzled. His eyes were unfocused, staring at the horizon. He put his hand on her shoulder and said :
"Annabeth, dark times are coming. Beware."
She blinked, not sure about what to say. Luke twitched and suddenly where he had been standing only moments before stood Athena. The goddess was in a simple glowing armour and her grey eyes were stormy.
"Mom ?" Annabeth asked, clearly confused and surprised.
"Beware, Annabeth. You must keep your friends close to you; they are your only protection." Athena opened her mouth to speak but when she spoke the next words they were weirdly in Percy's voice :
"Annabeth, wake up ! Wake up, please ! I need you."
The scene turned, twisted and blackened, and when she opened her eyes, she saw Percy looking down at her, worry showing in his sea-green eyes. As she looked around her, she realized she was on Percy's lap, his arms around her and in his bed. It made her blush and she immediately regretted it.
"Oh God," Percy said when he saw Annabeth open her eyes."I thought you were dead." He buried his face in the crook of her neck, his lips brushing her hair. Annabeth froze.
"But I'm not. I'm fine, now," she said carefully, very aware of Percy's presence. "Besides as Reyna once pointed it out, you wouldn't find your way out of a paper bag so don't expect me to leave you lost."
"Nonsense," he mumbled.
He looked at her with his sea-green eyes just inches from her own.
"I can't lose you. You're everything to me. I-I love you," he whispered, his tingling breath making Annabeth shiver.
"I love you too," her voice was barely a murmur, almost inaudible.
And then, they were kissing.
Annabeth put her arms around Percy's neck, her hands in his hair. He crushed her even closer to her. Their mouths seemed to move in unission and when Percy opened his to moan softly, Annbeth pushed her tongue lightly in his mouth, testing. He drew in a sharp breath and they weren't kissing as much as devouring each other.
The air was electric, sending burning waves up and down their bodies. Percy's shirt came up first. Annabeth brushed her hand lightly on Percy's chest, she had never seen him so undressed. Percy kissed her neck and they were a tangle of arms and legs.
Percy drew back and looked at Annabeth. She could see the effort it took him to hold back.
"Are you sure ?" he whispered.
Annabeth looked into his sea-green eyes. She knew the answer in her heart.
"Yes," she replied.
And they continued where they had left.
. . .
So what did you think? This chapter was a combination of two of Anna's chapters and I slightly changed it. Hope you like this story.
