They had been dating for a while.
16 years to be exact.
Not that they wanted to... kind of.
But that's all in the past.
They were 16 now and better than ever.
You could say they were in love.
Or at least that would be what it seemed to the public eye and to themselves.
That wouldn't exactly be the case... all the time.
But did it matter?
Nope
Reputation.
Potential.
Drama.
That was their world.
Percy and Annabeth's world.
16 years earlier*
Narrator's POV
Annabeth was beautiful. As soon as she was lain in Athena Chase's arm, she knew she would be the perfect daughter. She could feel it.
Annabeth already had a head full of soft golden curls, gray gleeful, curious eyes, and such soft baby skin.
Athena stroked her daughter's hair as she got lost in her eyes. Annabeth was looking at her with a quizzical expression, as if analyzing her.
"Oh you're so beautiful", Athena whispered, not paying attention to the doctors and nurse rushing around her. "If only Fredrick could see you now".
Fredrick was Athena's husband. He had recently died in a car crash, literally a week before Annabeth was due.
Athena was past the tears and only a sense of loss and pain filled her instead.
When Fredrick had died, Athena had lost everything. She had lost her soulmate, she had lost her income, and she had lost someone who would support their daughter.
But at that moment, Athena couldn't bring herself to care. Athena felt an instant love for the infant in her arms. She only wished for her to have success and to have happiness.
"You are perfect for him", Athena whispered as well. "You will do greatly".
Little innocent Annabeth who wasn't aware of her future never would've guessed, even if she used all her infant brain power, that she was subjected to an arranged marriage.
With Perseus Jackson.
Athena was going to send Annabeth off with Perseus to give her income.
How selfish.
But Athena didn't have a choice.
This was the only way to give Annabeth a good life.
And she was willing to do it.
In the next hospital room*
Sally Jackson was the mother of the beautiful baby boy in her arms. Perseus Jackson.
His beautiful sea green eyes that looked up at her with glee shone brightly.
Her beautiful baby boy.
She also wanted him to be successful and happiness.
She wanted him to marry for happiness, love for happiness.
But Poseidon thought otherwise.
Sally honestly didn't know why he decided to give Percy and Annabeth an arranged marriage. But every time she would bring the topic up to Poseidon, he would go stone faced and unresponsive. Sure, Athena was their friend but she still wanted Percy to choose for himself.
Sally could only hope that Percy would be able to find happiness in Annabeth.
*7 years later*
Athena was at the highest and happiest point in her life. Annabeth really liked Percy. She would always beg Athena to go play with Percy and Athena could feel satisfaction every time Annabeth's doe-like eyes looked up at her in that pleading way.
Not to mention, Athena had found a boyfriend (now fiance). Of course, she wasn't neccessarily OVER Fredrick but she had moved on. He had just proposed today after 2 years of dating and Athena felt on top of the world.
So, she spent her day cuddled up with him, relishing her happiness.
*At Sally's house*
Annabeth was so excited. She was always excited when she spent time with Percy. She bounded over to his house next door after hugging her mommy and daddy goodbye.
Annabeth pranced up to the door, taking her tiny knuckle and knocking twice.
Sally, as always, was the first to open the door, looking at Annabeth with a warm smile.
"Where's Perwcy?" Annabeth asked in her cute voice.
"He's upstairs honey. Playing with his legos", Sally smiled, taking Annabeth's hand and leading her upstairs as Annabeth animatedly talked about her day.
"And so Daddy threw me up in the air. Like a yard high!" Annabeth smiled, her two tiny dimples showing.
"That's very cool honey!" Sally said enthusiastically. Not that kind of fake enthusiasm that people use just to get the kid to stop bothering them. Sally really liked Annabeth and was genuinely happy that she had such a great day.
"Daddy asked Mommy to marry her today. Mommy said it was called a proposal", Annabeth continued talking. "He told me yesterday but I forgot to tell you".
"Oh that is amazing, sweetie!" Sally smiled. They had finally come to Percy's room and as soon as she saw him on the ground messing around with the legos, Annabeth let go of Sally's hand and bounded over to him.
"What are you building, Perwcy?" Annabeth asked, sitting down, next to him.
"I'm building a ship!", Percy replied, showing the picture on his instructions booklet.
"Can I help?" Annabeth asked, already starting to help him anyways.
"Ya! Remember last time when I didn't know where the gray piece went and you helped me build the helicopter? Jason and Nico were so jealous since they didn't know how to build it", Percy giggled, Annabeth joining in.
Sally watched the two children playing around for some time before leaving, a smile on her face. She was glad that maybe, just maybe, Percy could marry for love.
Little did she know how wrong she would be.
Annabeth and Percy soon finished building the ship. It was a beauty, made up of many complicated pieces (Annabeth figured those parts out) but it was big and beautiful... and blue (A/N lol).
"You can keep the ship this time", Percy said, though how he stared at the thing longingly told Annabeth otherwise.
"No, you did most of it, you can keep it", Annabeth said with a smile. She wasn't really keen to have a ship in her room anyways.
"Thanks Annie!" Percy said, eyes lighting up.
"Fine but next time we are building the owl legos and I wanna keep that one!" Annabeth said. It was her lego anyways. It was the one lego that her mom bought for her. She had yet to build it though.
"Well, I get to keep the uh-", Percy looked around his room. "The- the- the seaweed one!". Thrown in his closet that was slightly peeking out was an aquarium lego but the only part that was peeking out was the seaweed part of it.
Annabeth burst out laughing as Percy glared at her. "Maybe because your head's full of seaweed!".
"It is not!".
"Well, then tell me the definition of um atoms!" Annabeth challenged.
"What's definition?" Percy asked, genuine confusion in his eyes.
Annabeth started laughing again.
"Hey! It's just cause your a Wise Girl!" Percy huffed.
"I am a Wise Lady", Annabeth poshly said in her not-so-posh 5 year old voice.
"What's a lady?" Percy asked once again, making Annabeth snort.
"A lady is a woman used as a polite or old-fashioned form of reference", Annabeth replied, still sniggering.
"Oh", Percy muttered.
"Your so dumb it's funny!" Annabeth continued to snigger.
"Well, your so pretty, your beautiful!" Percy countered, watching in amusement as Annabeth's cheeks turned red. Even though whatever he just said didn't make any sense at all.
And that's when the little seaweed broke down laughing.
"PERCY!" Annabeth screamed, throwing a lego at him. She hit his back and luckily for her, the side that hit him was the side with the bumps on it. But unluckily for her, Percy seemed unfazed.
"That was so funny!" Percy laughed.
"I hate you!" Annabeth huffed.
That only made Percy laugh harder.
Eventually, Annabeth's pride couldn't take it anymore so she daringly walked up to him, secretly holding a lego in her hand.
Percy eventually stopped laughing when he realized their lips were inches apart. And right when Annabeth was about to kiss him, she threw the lego square at his nose.
"Owie!" Percy screamed, rubbing his nose.
"That's what you get for being annoying", Annabeth said, sticking her tongue at him.
"Annabeth! Your mom is calling for you", Sally's voice soon rang up.
"Ok, I'm coming!" Annabeth shouted back.
"Bye Seaweed Brain!" Annabeth said to Percy as she started opening the door.
"Bye Wise Girl! Bring your owl lego next time!" Percy said, giving her a hug.
"Ya see you tommorrow!" Annabeth said before running down the stairs.
*A month later (it's a week after Annabeth's 8th birthday, meaning 2 weeks after Percy's)*
"Bye Annabeth, we're going to the wedding!" Annabeth heard her mom yell at her as she was leaving with Brayden. Her mom looked so beautiful in her white wedding dress and she wished Annabeth was there to witness the wedding but she eventually decided against it since Brayden convinced her that Annabeth would probably be bored and walk off somewhere. Sally was going to be staying at the Jackson house anyways and she told Annabeth to go over there. Annabeth was obviously happy to comply. Athena also called Thalia and Piper's mom to have them come over and they also happily agreed.
As soon as Annabeth's mother left, Annabeth raced over to Percy's house. Her mom told her that they would be meeting her there.
"Hi Sally!" Annabeth said, seeing the mother working hard in the garden.
"Hi sweetie, go on inside, Percy's with Jason and Nico doing... something. Keep an eye on them, will you?" Sally said teasingly.
"I will!" Annabeth smiled, bounding inside the house.
"Nico! How did you already eat all of my Chips Ahoy!" Percy screamed as soon as she stepped through the door.
"Sorry, Sally let me", Nico said nonchalantly.
"Hi guys!" Annabeth cheerfully said as she plopped down on one of the Jackson's couches.
"Didn't your mommy say that Piper and Thalia would be coming with you?" Jason asked. He was sitting on the counter top, eating some oreos.
"Ya, they're coming. They must be a bit lat-", Annabeth started.
"THALIA! YOU FINISHED 20 PACKS OF MY PRETZELS!" Annabeth heard Piper scream. "YOU'RE PROBABLY GOING TO GET FAT!".
"No I'm not! Besides, I was hungry!" Annabeth heard Thalia say back.
"You know what, both you and Nico are going to get fat", Annabeth huffed, as Piper and Thalia walked in the room.
"Hey!" Thalia and Nico said at the same time.
"What did Nico do?" Piper asked.
"He ate a full box of my Chips Ahoys!" Percy cut in, huffing indignantly.
"They are a match made in heaven", Annabeth grumbled. She had just heard that phrase from her mother last week when she was talking to Sally about... something. She had searched the phrase up and soon realized what it meant.
"What does that mean?" Thalia asked.
"It means two people who are suited for each other, dating-wise", Annabeth sniggered as she saw both their cheeks turn pink.
Percy, Piper, and Jason joined her in her laughing as well.
And so the 6 of them spent the rest of their time laughing and having a great time.
Eventually, it was getting late and their mom and dads were calling for them to go home.
"Bye Piper", Jason said, when she was about to go home.
Piper reached up and hugged him before getting in her mom's car, waving.
Jason's cheeks immediately turned pink.
"Jason, why are you blushing so hard?" Nico asked nonchalantly, though Annabeth could see the tiny smirk on his face.
Jason blushed twice as hard.
"Looks like Jasie over here has a crush", Percy sniggered.
"So you like my best friend huh", Thalia said, laughing along with Percy.
"I do not!" Jason replied, muttering.
"Oh yes you d-", Annabeth said.
"Thalia! Annabeth! Your moms are here!" Annabeth and Thalia heard Sally say.
"Bye Percy, bye Nico, bye Jason!" Annabeth said, giving Percy a hug before running off.
"See you punks later!" Thalia said as well, following Annabeth.
But the sight that Annabeth and Thalia saw when they saw their mothers was definitely a surprise.
