Brett had run after another patient that was by the building. But what she didn't know is that it would explode. Until someone had told Casey, and that's when he saw Brett over there by the building. He then ran after her. But then the building exploded, right when Casey was shielding Brett. Once Severide heard the building explode, that's when he froze. "Mouch do you see any sign of them!" he yelled. "No!" Mouch yelled.
But that's when Severide saw Brett stumble out of the rubble. "Brett! Where's Matt?" he asked. "I-i don't know!" she said. All Brett had was just a cut on her head but Mackey checked her out just in case for a concussion. Once Mackey cleared her, she stood there; until they got Casey out at least or if they could find him. "Cruz, Gallo with me." Severide said. Severide, Cruz, and Gallo all ran into the smoke, and then Gallo stumbled over something. He then noticed it was Casey. "Severide! I found him." he yelled. Severide then ran to where Gallo was.
He then saw what Gallo saw. Casey was pinned underneath a rock. Severide cursed underneath his breath and then tried to come up with a plan. "Cruz, go get Capp and the airbags, I don't know how long they'll hold but they'll probably give us enough time. Gallo get either Mackey or Brett, we need to get a vital check on Casey and fast because I don't know how much time we have." he said. They then split up, Severide staying with Casey. He knelt on the ground, taking off his glove in the process.
Casey's breathing was shallow, which probably meant that he had at least a few broken ribs. 30 seconds had now passed, Cruz was running with Capp and the airbags and Gallo and Brett close behind them. Severide then helped Capp and Cruz set up the airbags in their designated spots. Brett was still checking Casey's vitals. "His pulse is thready his BP is 90/60 and dropping, I can't fully check his sats yet." she said. Severide then nodded and then said, "Cruz, you and me lift the rock and Capp you pump." they both then nodded and Capp then started pumping.
Once the rock was at the halfway point, Severide and Cruz started to lift. Once the rock was fully off Casey, Brett then slowly pulled Casey out with the help of Gallo. "Gallo, go get the backboard, it's unstable to work on him here." she said. He then ran after the backboard, while Cruz and Capp were picking up the airbags. Severide then knelt down again, taking in Casey's bloodied face due to the explosion. There had been a deep scratch on his forehead.
After 2 minutes, Gallo came back with the backboard. "Let's take his turnout gear off first." Severide said. Severide and Cruz then took off Casey's turnout gear, including his boots. Severide then felt bone on Casey's left foot. "Woah, be careful here Cruz he's got a broken foot." he said. They both then slowly took off Casey's left boot. Once all of the turnout gear was off, they then loaded the unconscious Casey onto the backboard. "On my count. 1-2-3." Brett said.
They all then lifted on her count, they then started to move. Mackey was sitting there waiting with the stretcher. They got Casey onto the stretcher and Severide ran back to get Casey's turnout gear. Mackey had cut open Casey's shirt, along with one arm sleeve and his left pant leg. Brett attached the leads and turned on the monitor. Severide just stood back, watching.
"Ok, BP is 90/60 still, heart rate is 60, temp's normal, Sats are 60's and falling so there's a possibility he has a broken rib or two." she said. She then reached in the bag and grabbed the intubation kit. Mackey was splinting Casey's left foot, and then reattaching the BP cuff to Casey's right arm and adding an IV on the other arm. Brett then tilted Casey's head back 20-30 degrees and once she made it to that angle, she then grabbed the tube and then inserted it down Casey's throat. Once she was all the way, she attached the bag and started to pump. They were then ready to transport, and Brett got in the back.
Severide had to stay behind because they had to do an overhaul as expected. Once 61 was on the way to Med, Mackey got on the radio and alerted Med that they were coming in. Meanwhile, once Med got the alert; Maggie assigned Marcel and Will to the case, with Marcel being the doctor in charge.
Severide's POV: I went back over to where Casey was pinned, I needed to find something that caused this. After 30 minutes of looking, I found something that caught my eye. I picked it up, and looked at it more closely. And that is when I realized that someone had planted a bomb here, which Casey might have triggered because it was hiding. I then walked over to where Boden was. "Chief, someone needs to call Voight. Right now." I said. "What for?" he asked. "Because I just found this. And Casey might have triggered it." I said, showing him the piece of the bomb. He then got on his radio to tell dispatch to call CPD Intelligence to where we were. I stood there with him waiting until they showed up.
