Prologue
When Sakura thought of the night of her Graduation, during the Graduation party, her memories of that time were not as vivid but she knew everything that transpired that night were the reasons of the things that are transpiring in the present.
Sakura has always been a diligent student, she wasn't a prodigy in academics but she knew she's smart enough to pass all her exams and everyone around her always believe in her capabilities. She was always this girl with a big dream inside a small body. Imagine her happiness when she got admitted to her dream University in Sendai City, Tohoku University, and since then, Sakura had always dedicated her time in studying, only making a few friends all throughout the four whole years of going to College.
That's why when they graduated, Sakura has been reluctant to go to the Graduation Party.
"I don't really think I can go," Sakura said, putting the book she was reading down as she held the phone.
"You can't go or you don't want to go? Come on Sakura, it's literally a one time experience." Ino has been trying to convince her best friend to go to the Graduation party next week and she'd be damned if Sakura refused. She's refused a hundred parties throughout College and Ino will not be having her refuse this one.
Sakura sighed and rolled on the bed before she sat up and brushed the messy nest of her hair. She's been dyeing her hair pink since her first year in College because Sakura wanted to be reminded of the Chery Blossoms back in Tokyo, so having a pink hair helped her cope with homesickness.
"But I'm not really a fan of socializing. And besides, I'd be a lot more busy after graduation. I need to sort out my future and I'll be going back in Tokyo."
Sakura could imagine Ino rolling her eyes at the other side of the line.
"Exactly! After graduation, we'd be so busy to even go and party. So this will be the last time we can enjoy our lives as students."
"Okay fine," Sakura said, the words sounding like magic to Ino's ears as she squealed.
"Cool! See you next week."
Sakura hummed in response before ending the call. Even though she'll be graduating in less than a quick, everything still felt so surreal. She still couldn't believe that four years had already gone by and that fast. So fast that Sakura wasn't able to do that one certain thing she's been wanting to do since she started College.
To go and confess to that guy. Sakura first saw him during the entrance exam. He's tall and lean, strong features but the most striking thing were his eyes. He's been the hot topic during their first year, that handsome freshman in the Commerce Department. But Sakura couldn't bring herself to tell him her feelings, she wasn't in high school anymore and she had matured so confessing to someone sounded so cliche to her. She actually talked to him quite a few times, from when they did a research for a thesis because they were on the same block in a unit during their second year, but still, Sakura never opened the topic up. Their relationship was a simple blockmates, would start and end during lectures.
By the time they were on their third year, Sakura has rarely seen him because of their different lecture schedules and by fourth year, Sakura was sure he has already forgotten her.
"Uchiha Sasuke," Sakura mumbled before taking a deep breath and standing up. It's almost half past nine and Sakura felt sleepy.
She thought whether Sasuke would be there in the graduation party, but knowing him, he seem to be the type to avoid social gatherings.
But the week after that, during the graduation party, Uchiha Sasuke was actually there. But Sakura wasn't aware of it until later that evening.
"Are you really sure you'll be fine?" Ino asked as she looked at Sakura who has started arranging her stuff and getting ready to leave.
"Yeah I'm fine. I'm not that drunk," Sakura said as she stood up. She did tell Ino she wouldn't be staying at the party for no more than an hour but she ended up staying for two hours and Sakura was starting to feel suffocated and dizzy. Whether it's the alcohol taking over her system or just simply the annoyance, she has no idea.
"Are you sure? You don't want me to drive you back to your apartment?"
"No, I'm good," Sakura said, waving her hand nonchalantly as she started to walk, mingling through the sea of bodies as Ino watched her retreating figure before someone called her and Ino went back to heaven knows where.
Sakura convinced herself that dizziness she was feeling wasn't from alcohol. She's never drank that much anyway.
"It's just that loud music," Sakura mumbled as she walked through the corridor and outside the place. Hand on the wall for support as she continued her trek outside.
"Yeah, just the loud music. What was that song about anyway?" Sakura mumbled again, rubbing her temple. The music sounded like some incoherent western rap and it's making her head pound.
She was outside when she felt her stomach churn and a bile rise up her throat. Finding a wall for support, she bend down and throw up whatever dinner she ate earlier.
"Not that drunk," Sakura said as she wiped the side of her mouth, feeling horrible but oddly lightheaded.
Sakura turned around and walked a few steps before she stumbled on a bumper block in the parking lot and almost fell face first on the cemented floor when Sakura felt a hand on her arm, yanking her back as she spun around.
And that was when she saw Uchiha Sasuke.
"Oh wow, you're here?" Sakura mumbled, her words slurred as she felt extremely light-headed. She was slowly losing her senses as Sakura fought the urge to let her body fall and just lie on the parking lot in the middle of the cold Sendai City night.
"What?"
Sasuke really had zero intention of going to the graduation party, but then for the sake of argument, he decided to attend the party since it'll be the last time he'll be seeing any one of his blockmates. So when he saw an opportunity, Sasuke managed to sneak out of the place only to stumble upon a drunk girl outside. She looked drunk, but Sasuke really couldn't blame her. Even he had to take a few drinks earlier though Sasuke believe he's not as drunk as this girl, he could still make rational decisions and drive safely.
The neon lights around didn't help Sasuke to see her face clearly but he knew he'd seen that pink hair before.
Sighing heavily, Sasuke decided to walk her back to his car since she look like she's too drunk to even walk without kissing the ground. And Sasuke really couldn't just leave her there.
He tucked the seatbelt around her and sat on the driver's seat as he started the ignition. Stopping just a few blocks in front of a convenience store to buy a bottle of mint tea. He came back quickly and handed Sakura the bottle to which she took, gulping the liquid as it soothed her throat and she sighed in content.
"I forgot to ask," Sasuke begun. "But where do you live? I'll drive you back to your..."
Sasuke trailed off and looked at the girl beside him.
"...place," he continued, staring at the sleeping girl with her head leaning on the window.
It took Sasuke five minutes to try to wake her up but she was sleeping like a bear in hybernation and Sasuke completely gave up in waking her up. He'll just go back to his apartment and wait until she wakes up.
A decision Sasuke would regret later on.
Or not.
When Sasuke arrived at the apartment complex, he went straight to his unit, carrying the sleeping girl as he punched the code on his door and walked in. Proceeding towards the living room to put her on the couch, Sasuke felt her iron grip around his shoulders.
"It's really you,"
Sasuke heard her whisper as he looked down, her eyes half-lidded and her face seem to redden, the slight blush on her cheeks because of alcohol made her look tempting.
But Sasuke will not be tempted.
Was what he told himself ten minutes ago. But then he found himself carrying her to his room, returning the kiss that she has initiated.
Sasuke knew it was wrong. He shouldn't be doing this, between the two of them he's the one who is sober enough to stop this before it could go further.
"You're drunk,"
"And you're hard,"
If Sakura were to hear herself when she's sober, she might just drown in embarrassment. But the alcohol gave her an extra amount of courage as she sat, straddling around Sasuke's waist.
"If you're not drunk, what's my name?"
Sakura hummed as she smiled like she was just called during a lecture and she knew what the answer is.
"Uchiha Sasuke," she mumbled.
"No–" Sakura said suddenly, leaning in close to his ear.
"Sasuke-kun,"
For a second she sounded like a purring cat and Sasuke could feel goosebumps rising. Her breath fanned his neck as Sasuke smelled the mint tea she drunk earlier.
"You're not going to regret this when you wake up?" He asked.
"No,"
Yes. Absolutely yes, Sakura regretted it when she woke up the next day. Everything came barreling to her as Sakura sat up on the bed, the lack of clothing was enough proof of what happened last night and Sakura noticed the bare back of a guy sleeping soundlessly beside her.
It was that moment that Sakura knew she fucked up, literally. And she felt like screaming but she held herself from doing so, instead, she started to take all her clothes, wearing them slowly and one article of clothing at a time before sweeping her belongings. She was on her way out of the unit when she saw a notepad and a pen.
Sakura didn't know what got into her that she decided to write a note. It was just a simple statement 'Sorry, you don't have to feel responsible. It was just a one-night thing and we'll never be able to see each other again. –Sakura.
That moment, they had entered a maze they knew there was no turning back. It was a maze of obstacles, emotions, love and so many more things. Taking baby steps through the labyrinth that destiny had put them in. And there was no turning back.
