Yami's PoV

"In other news today the 23rd ranked hero Alien Queen has perished in a villain attack…"

Static.

That's all that there was… static.

"Ya—" muffled voices prodded me

This numb sensation...why? What had happened.

"Yami?"

Nothingness, that's what I wanted.

Then something cut through the static

"Oh it's not that bad. It's not like she was their bio mom anyway."

That's not true. My brother and I know, she is our mom, our mom by blood.

She…

*BEEP BEEEP BEEEP BEEP*

Stupid alarm clock. Stupid dream. Stupid memories.

"Yami? Come on, it's move-in day." The tall figure in the doorway was shrouded, a silhouette.

"Idiot, you activated your quirk in your sleep again."

Oh… that makes sense…

Dense fog swirled around the floor, spilling into the vents below. I could see through the eyes of my grandfather, he was gonna be frustrated, it was the third time this week I had possessed him.

Releasing the mind control I could see clearly. The figure was not some demon of sleep, but my younger brother.

"Give me a few minutes to rally," I groaned, "and then a few more minutes to think of a bomb apology to paps for controlling him on accident."

"It's nothing dad didn't do when he was younger. But give me your honest opinion, do I wear the yellow or black jacket?"

"You worried about making good first impressions? That's new." I chuckled, pushing my blankets off of me.

"No, I could give less of a fuck what people think about me." Ume looked away

He was trying so hard.

"Yes, but you care what Setoshi thinks of you." I teased, I knew about my brother's crush all too well

"What about you? Still denying any type of feelings for Asume?" He scoffed in reply

"I told you, I'm not interested in hooking up with her, I'm not interested in dating her. That would be playing into everyone's jokes." I shoved him a bit

"Fair, fair. I still don't believe you." Ume grinned

"You should, you know what goes on up here," I pointed to my head, "just like I know what's going on in there," I flicked his forehead, "we are twins after all."

"True, but we both know how to hide things."

"Then why do I get weird date dreams with my best friend? Can you tell me that?" I walked over to my nearly bare closet.

Everything was getting packed away, shipped to the dorms, so I didn't have much to choose from.

"Any thoughts?"

"You worried about making good first impressions?" He snickered

"I mean, why not? You know everyone else's parents want them to be presentable." I sighed

My brother and I were about to start at U.A. in hero course class 1-A. We got in through recommendation and working our asses off, just like four others. Our parents went to school together, back in the days of All Might.

Now hero culture isn't as respected as it used to be.

With the League of Villains still running rampant twenty years after they first surfaced, parents protested their children enrolling. Becoming a hero was seen as a death march, our mom wasn't as lucky as the rest of her classmates.

They grew up to obtain the top three spots in hero culture, she died in a bombing.

Didn't stop our dads from working their asses off, keeping the agency open, saving people, and dragging us to every class reunion possible.

That's where we made friends, both before, and after our mom.

Asume was the daughter of the Number two, and Number thirteen pro heroes, Ground Zero and Red Riot.

Setoshi was the son of the Number one and Number four pro heroes, Deku and Shouto.

Makoto was the child of the Number three and Number twenty-one pro heroes, Creati and Earphone Jack.

They were something called "designer". Not because of who their parents are, but because of how they were born. They were created by combining the DNA of their parents, a technique many still criticize. Some believed that if they could combine DNA, then they could artificially create the most powerful quirks in history.

But just because power is given at birth doesn't mean that they have paths paved in gold. Our parents would have us train with each other, even though we went to different middle schools.

Eventually, Setoshi's dads convinced their friends to let the last member of our merry lot join in.

Hanako was the daughter of the Number seven and Number eighteen pro heroes, Uravity and Ingenium.

We spent lots of time together, so it was only natural that we all apply to the same hero school.

Now here we are, the first day of our journey to the top.

"Ok, so what if everyone else is dressed to impress, do we have to? No one knows who we are. The media knows who Setoshi is, they know who Hanako is, and they know who Makoto is. Asume and us? Owe them nothing. Hell look how they treated us when… when you know." He stopped short, trying to keep his cool

"Hey, it's ok. I know, but guess what, it's not like there will be press there anyway. Why would Principal Nezu let them on campus when security is already so tight? We have scheduled move-in times, there are extra staff working to make sure everyone gets their stuff unloaded in a timely manner. We owe them nothing, I just hope we have interesting classmates." I ran my fingers over his knuckles, he always had issues with his quirk when he was upset.

Like I do when I'm scared.

"You're right, as always."

"I know, now how shall I dress today?" I clasped my hands together

"I assume you are wearing the heels?"

"Obviously, I'm only 5'7, why wouldn't I wear seven inch flat-form boots?"

"I know you like to pull shit like that, but come on. We're the same height when you do that." Ume ran a hand through his hair, bubble gum pink, just like mine.

"Same height, same hair length, same facial piercing, we're almost twins." I chuckled

"Hey, I shaved half of your head, you gave me a nose ring, it was a deal, not my fault that you ended up chopping an inch off the other end." He shoved me out of the way. "Alrighty, you have my favorite pieces hidden—"

"Packed up."

"Hidden. So why don't we go with the black utility pants, black tube top, black boots, and then the yellow sheer windbreaker you took from me." Ume held up the fore mentioned jacket.

"First of all, you bought the last one before I could get it, secondly we are siblings. I'm legally allowed to steal your clothing." I snatched it from him

"Glad you said this because, I really like how your jeans make my butt look." He did a little spin

"Oh you BASTARD! Those were my favorite jeans! Now they're gonna be stretched out in the front and the back."

"It's not my fault I have an amazing ass, you're just jealous of my thicc thighs, and booty."

"It's a good thing you're probably a bottom." I muttered

"What was that?"

"You heard me. Now let me change," I shoved him out of the closet

"Ok, but I'm stealing your eyeliner real quick."

"Fine, it's getting old anyway." I shouted through the door.

I walked a little further in, to find an old shoe box hidden in the far corner of my closet.

Years of newspaper clippings, blurry photos, witness testimonies, anything I could find on Shigaraki Tomura. The man who killed my mother.

I will find you, and I will kill you

"If you don't come out soon I'm gonna start using the rest of this, including the limited edition Idol palette."

Ume doesn't know I have this, and he won't because he deserves to become a hero, not just use a school as a way of drawing out a criminal.

"Don't you dare touch that shit! You know Gramps got that for me, you got the cardigan!" I shouted

I burst out of the tiny room with an armful of my clothing, and the box, to pack into my last few boxes.

"Why aren't you packing? If we end up late it's your fault." I snatched the blush and highlighter from him

"I finished last night, planned my outfit then as well, besides, I've been up for a few hours." Ume smirked

"Dude, it's only seven in the morning. You been taking your meds?"

"Yep, you?"

"You know it, now if you want to help me by doing that thing where you make all of my clothing fit in a single box, that would be amazing. Because, um, I have to fix this." I waved my free hand around my face

"You know you look fine. Or are you trying to portray a specific aesthetic? Ya know, since you now only have half of your hair."

"I you did this to me, and let me remind you Dad and Pater still don't know about it. I would rather go out with a dramatic flare, but one I can do under fifteen minutes." I rolled my eyes

(Quick explanation, Pater is Latin for father, it felt weird to use father for one of their dads, and since Kaminari excels and shows interest in literature and language I thought, hey maybe he would have them call him that.)

"Uh, fine. They weren't up when I made the coffee this morning, so they haven't seen my newest piercing yet, so I can understand that." He looked at the pile of dresses and such on my bed, and began to tightly roll them into tubes.

We sat in silence for a bit, but it was nice.

Saying anything would be talking too much at this point.

I heard tape ripping as I added the last bit of highlighter I needed, now I was a blushed, lined, highlighted goddess. With false lashes with the same name.

"Huh, really accentuates the slits you added last night." He poked at my eyebrow

"Hey! Remember who is the older of the two of us!"I stuck my tongue out

"Yeah, you may be older by half an hour. Does that really matter though?"

"Not really, but it's the principal of things."

"Whatever, you're all packed, now can we go eat? I don't want to leave in an hour without eating anything."

He opened the door to our grandpa about to knock.

"Well isn't this convenient, my students are actually on time, for once." He sighed, his once dark hair streaked with grey.

"Yep! We are all packed Grandpa, just going to breakfast." I smiled

"You changed your hair again, any particular reason?"

"Just wanted to, also sorry for earlier, didn't mean to possess you like that." I chuckled nervously

"It's fine, nothing your dad didn't do when he was young." He began to walk away and Ume and I followed.

"If we get in trouble remember, you're deaf and I don't speak Japanese." I muttered to him

"Obviously, I know universal sign language for a reason." He chuckled

We sat down at the kitchen table, sure our parents were the number eight and twelve pro heroes, but it's not like we lived in a mansion like Setoshi, Hanako, or Makoto. That would be too much for our dads, besides, they built this home with our mom.

"So kids we are leaving around 8:00, Gramps and Grandpa are leaving now, they have to oversee all of the hero course students and direct them to their rooms, your Aunt Eri go— what did you two do?" Dad looked up from the coffee pot for a split second

"We decided that since we already took our student i.d. photos a week ago, we could make tiny changes for the actual school year." Ume explained

"Hey it's all good darling, you know that U.A. has loosened up on the dress code regulations since we were there." Pater walked over to him and placed a kiss on his cheek.

"Ew, pda. Please, you guys will have the entire house to yourselves in a few hours, please wait for the lovey dovey until then." I groaned

Suddenly a bright pink cat jumped onto the table.

"Alien down, you know the rules." Pater scooped up the only female cat in the house.

Our dads told us that it represented mom, that soulmates once existed, but during their first year, they stopped showing up. It was later found that the quirk users responsible were killed, people would have to work to find love on their own.

The news stories were real, the number two hero, Hawks had been killed in the fight, as had the villain known as Dabi.

"Alright, should we load the truck? Let the kids finish their breakfast?" Dad spoke directly to Pater

"I think we should. Everything is packed right?"

We both nodded.

"Great, the sooner we get there, the more time you two have to set up your rooms."

With that they left us alone.

"I wonder what our classmates will be like?" Ume mused

"I don't know, I mean, we already know half of them, our class is one of the smallest in U.A. history." I snagged the coffee pot from where dad left it

"Yeah, we have what? Thirteen in our home room?"

"I think so, twenty-six total in the hero course."

There were more students in the entire school, the general studies course, along with the support division expanded an unprecedented amount in the last twenty years.

The new ideal was instead of having mass amounts of ok heroes, we have a smaller amount of amazing heroes. People who could handle more, be given better equipment, and protect more effectively.

It was a smart idea, it helped keep people alive.

But when people are denied something, because they aren't "good enough" they tend to start tearing down, and destroying what they loved.

"What do you think they'll be like?" I inquired

"Thousand yen says that at least three of them will hit on Setoshi because he's pretty, or because of who his parents are."

"So you admit that you think he's pretty!"

"Yami, we've gone over this, he's fucking designer. Do you think his parents would let him be ugly?"

"Fair."

"Asume is pretty too, but with the genes that she was made out of, gods the world is not fair." Ume continued

"She looks like a fuckin statue her features are so sharp, like why? She is fourteen, no right, no right at all to be that pretty." I rubbed my eyes

"Why do her parents hide their relationship again?"

"Because when the whole cat thing ended, the super religious used it a sign that 'God does not support queers' remember all the reports of arson when we were young."

"We're still young."

"We're turning sixteen in eight months."

"That's young," Pater entered the kitchen, "everything is loaded, we can leave any time now."

"Alrighty, shall we sis?"

"Yeah, let's get going."

We arrived at a worn brick building, a sign proudly labeling it as the 1-A dorms standing our front. There were two other trucks being unloaded, with only one of any familiarity.

"Hey! Baku-bitch!" I waved

"A-shit-o!" The raven haired beauty ran over and nearly tackled me in a hug

"We're actually here!" We began to jump up and down giddily.

"Hey Asu, long time no see." Ume smiled softly, already slipping into his quiet, angry, gay nature.

"Ume hey! A week is not that long, but I get— are those Yami's jeans?"

"Not anymore."

"Fair"

"Hey Asume, come finish unpacking!" Her father yelled

"She's coming King Explosion Murder!" I yelled back, the angry shouts in reply well worth the risk

"I'll see you guys inside ok?"

"Alrighty," Ume replied for the both of us

'You were hoping it was Setoshi weren't you?' I silently inquired

'She's my best friend, why would I be disappointed?'

'Because, even though you love her, you're interested in him' I didn't hide my smirk

"Listen—"

"Hey kiddos let's get to it! We have two rooms to set up, not just one." Dad called over to us

"Alrighty!" We started back over to them

After about an hour of unloading I was beginning to regret my choice of top. Yes, it was black, yes it was cute as shit, but a tube top for unloading shit? That was asking for a titty slip.

"You planned this, you bitch." I groaned readjusting my top for the seventh time in the last few minutes

"Hm, I don't think I did. You asked me what to wear, I went with a classic look, and that's on periodt."

' I hate you'

'Can't hate me more than I hate myself' the singsong tone glided through my head

For someone so quiet in public, he was fuckin annoying

"Rude."

"Come on you two, the truck's only here for another forty minutes, let's pick up the pace!" Pater exclaimed

I grabbed a cart to load the majority of my boxes onto, and Aunt Eri walked towards us

"Hey guys, I'm here to give you your room assignments." She smiled softly

"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at the studio?" I asked

"I got a part time job as the school nurse, given the fact that my quirk can send bodies back to a time before they were hurt, Principal Nezu thought my talents would be beneficial to any students with more self destructive quirks."

"So let me get this straight, you are the rewind hero: Prime, the prima ballerina of the Tokyo ballet— which includes teaching duties— and now the school nurse. What is it with our family and working themselves ragged? First it was Grandpa and Pops with the whole cat shelter, radio show, pro hero teacher gig, our parents who decided to work six nights a week and be full time parents, and now you. Are we gonna end up like that?" Ume looked at her in disbelief

"We don't like to sit still kid, if we can help people in any form we take it. I mean, you are here to become a hero, right?"

"Fair"

I decided to exit the conversation, heading back for my boxes.

"Yami, you're in room 5–1 its on the right wing." Eri called over

"Coolio, thanks Eri."

I began to push my shit into the elevator, from what I knew there were four floors of dorms, meaning that there were at least three people on each floor. One floor with four students, it wouldn't be too much to hope that I would know somebody on the same floor as me. I mean, it was six of us total, meaning I didn't know seven of them.

"Oh my gods you shave half of your head!"

I whipped around to see Setoshi staring straight at me

"What? Bad decision?"

"You look kick ass bro, but uh, what'd your dance teacher say?"

"Nothing so far." I grinned

"You on floor five too?" His blue eyes shining with mischief

"Hell yeah, I got the room farthest from the stairs too, nice window view, easy access to everything." I smirked, we both knew that it didn't matter where we ended up in the building, bullshit would ensue no matter what.

"WHY ARE YOU HERE?"

The shout came from two floors down, Setoshi and I deciding simultaneously to check out what was going on.

"I go to school here, same as you Nakamura." The voice that replied was all too familiar

"To think they would let such unnatural things into this school is a travesty." An older female voice spoke

"You didn't have to work to get in here, they saw your quirk and handed you the acceptance letter" An older male voice spat

Two adults and one boy our age stood in front of Asume, with a look we all knew too well

'You did nothing to get here, you do not deserve what you have worked for because you were born with power'

"Is everything ok over here?" I walked over with a plastered smiled

"Dear God, zip up your jacket child! You're distracting the boys." The mom hissed

"I don't know how any loving mother would let their child prance around like that" the father started right at me, it made my skin crawl

"First of all, she's dead, secondly, I would ask that you leave Bakugou alone, it's quite improper for a parent to be so open about their prejudices in a school environment." I kept the grin on my face

"Why I never! Itsuki I think it's time your father and I left, we love you, and remember that you are a special young man. Don't mess that up." The mother kissed the top of his head and they headed out.

"Bakugou, I'm sorry. I—"

"No Nakamura, I told you back at graduation. If you can't handle being my friend when your parents are around, I don't want your friendship. You've never been there for me when I needed it, never when they wanted me to give up my place as class rep. If you don't have enough spirit to be an actual friend, leave me alone." Asume shook her head

"But you've been my best friend for years."

"Best friends don't let their parents criticize their entire existence."

Watched her head up to the fourth floor, Nakamura's face red and his eyes tearful.

I don't know what happened between them in the past, in fact from what I know Asume has never talked about any of this.

"I'm sorry for how my parents treated you, and I'm sorry about your mom." I heard him speak

"Thank you. I'm sorry you have to deal with that, hopefully some time away will help you get your priorities straight." I looked back at him

Setoshi had already run after Asume, and I quickly followed

This was already turning out to be an eventful day, and it wasn't even lunch yet.
