Author's Note: I'm starting this story in Civil War (as you can probably tell) and I'm going to try to stick to cannon as much as possible!
Also, I do not own these characters.
"The first thing that Aubrey Stark heard when she woke up was the sound of a smoke alarm going off a floor above her and the sounds of muffled voices. She could make out someone yelling "what the hell" and another person responding. Ughhh…. She though as she rolled over onto her stomach and searched for her phone hiding in the sheets. She pulled it out and saw notifications from her Instagram and Snapchat along with texts from her 4 friends. As she set down her phone, she got out of bed and started walking to her closet.
"FRIDAY" she asked, "what time is it?"
"It is 9:18." FRIDAY calmly responded as Aubrey grabbed a small suitcase from a shelf.
"Okay, I want to leave for Miami at 10. Could you make sure a plane is ready for me?"
"Yes." FRIDAY answered. "Anything else?"
"No, thanks" Aubrey replied. She started to take clothes and pack them into the suitcase. After she got dressed into a t-shirt and sweatpants, she dragged the suitcase out of her room and into the hallway. Outside her windows, trees blew lazily in the wind and the morning sun shined off the lake.
After finishing her packing and leaving her stuff outside her door, Aubrey took the elevator up to the floor above her. As she walked down the hallway, she could smell a faint whiff of smoke. She turned the corner into a large kitchen. At the table sat Natasha Romanoff looking over some papers while Vision sat at the island with Rhodey watching Sam Wilson cleaning waffle batter off the floor and counter.
"Ewww it smells in here! What happened?" Aubrey asked while opening a cabinet and taking out Pop Tarts.
"Well," Rhodey said "Sam decided it would be a good idea to make some waffles but forget to take them out and then knock over the batter." Sam gave Rhodey a dirty look and bent over to clean the floor. Aubrey looked over at the waffle maker and saw two blackened waffles slightly smoking.
"And he burned them spectacularly!" Vision added turning towards Aubrey.
"It wasn't my fault!" Sam said. Rhodey and Sam continued arguing about the waffles while Aubrey put her Pop Tarts in the toaster and grabbed some snacks. Then, she poured herself the last remnants of coffee and dumped the coffee grounds down the garbage disposal. As she sat down to eat at the table, Natasha looked up.
"Are you going somewhere?" Asked Natasha noticing her suitcase and snacks.
"Yep, I'm going down to Florida to celebrate my friend's birthday." Aubrey explained.
"Lucky!" Natasha groaned "I'm reading through letters people sent us giving their opinion about what happened in Nigeria."
"What do people think?" Aubrey questioned.
"Well, most people think that what we did was bad because people were killed." Said Nat, "This one person thinks we should all be sent to prison. So overall, not good." After she finished speaking, two people entered the room. Her father, Tony Stark, and an older man with a mustache.
"Everyone" Her father said, "This is Thaddeus Ross, Secretary of State. He would like to talk to all of us."
"I will go fetch Captain Rodgers and Miss Maximoff." Vision said and proceeded to walk to the wall leading to the Avengers' rooms. Everyone got up and started seating themselves around the table while Aubrey got up and put her dishes away. As she turned to leave the room, a voice called her name.
"Hey Bree" Her dad called "Come here for a second" Aubrey turned at looked at her dad. "Are you packed and ready?" he asked
"Of course!" Aubrey responded slightly rolling her eyes.
"Do you have uh…clothes and stuff?" He said
"Yes" she said exasperatedly "And Pepper was always better at stuff like this!"
"Like what?" Tony said, a little hurt.
"Packing and making sure I'm ready for stuff!" Aubrey replied.
"Yeah, well…" Tony drifted off. He looked away to where the Avengers were sitting down at the table and a screen was being lowered down. Vision, Wanda and Steve had entered the room.
"Well I should go," Aubrey said "This seems boring"
"Mmmm…" Tony replied, still partly zoning out. Suddenly he snapped back to reality and said. "Well have fun!" He patted Aubrey on the shoulder, and both walked away. As Aubrey turned around, suitcase in hand, she saw the Avengers seated around the table listening to the man with the mustache….
