In the hallway of Hill Valley High School, Marty took the opportunity to steal one last kiss. Jennifer's heart raced, as it always did, not for fear that Strickland

would catch them (they'd gone way past their limit for being late for class and had been called slackers more than once), but because she loved Marty McFly so.

She sighed, wishing that she could kiss him forever and she couldn't resist letting her lips linger a little longer on his.

"I'll see you after school, okay?" His request was followed by one last kiss-one that made her feel warm all over.

"Always." She replied. But seconds after she watched him walk away, she called out his name. "Marty, wait!"

He whirled around. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong. I just remembered- I have a meeting after school, but it should only be about an hour or so."

As he moved toward her, his smile disappeared and he ran his fingers through her hair. "Everything's all right, isn't it? I mean, you're not in trouble with Mr.

Strickland, are you?"

She laughed. He was always looking out for her even when he didn't realize it. "Not yet. But anyway it's not that kind of meeting. It's voluntary."

As expected, she watched his eyebrows rise in disbelief. "Voluntary? You mean you just volunteered to stay after school for some meeting?"

Afraid to look at him, she averted her eyes. She supposed it was kind of embarrassing, but if she could make anyone understand, it was Marty. "Well, yeah. It's

just that… well I signed up for the dance planning committee and they're having a meeting this afternoon after school. I don't know… it sounds like fun."

"Dance planning committee?"

She blushed. "I know it's lame, but our parents are always bugging us to get more involved in high school activities, right?"

He looked at her thoughtfully for a few seconds before responding. "That's absolutely right. And you know what? Actually this is good. This is very good!"

"Marty, what are you talking about?"

"Where is this meeting?"

"In the gym, why?"

"Well, would it be all right if I came with you?"

His question caught her completely off-guard. "To the meeting?"

"Yeah."

"Well, um, sure. You'll probably be bored to death, but you could just sit on the bleachers and do your homework or something. And then we can leave. It

shouldn't take long."

"Actually I want to help."

Her mouth fell open and she almost laughed out loud. "Help? As in-."

"Yeah, you know, join the committee."

"Really?"

"Yeah, I-."

The warning bell rang and they shared one last quick kiss before going their separate ways. Frozen in place, she watched him run down the hallway, until he

disappeared around the corner, his white Nike's squeaking on the tile floor.

Two minutes later another bell rang, signaling that she was officially late for class-again.

But she wasn't worried about her attendance. She was trying to figure out why Marty McFly of all people would want to join a high school dance planning

committee. For the rest of the day, she tried to concentrate on school, but her thoughts were elsewhere. And of course every time she tried to talk to him, they

were interrupted in some way or another. The final bell seemed hours away and she wondered if she'd ever find out what Marty was up to. But she needn't have

worried.

Marty McFly was always full of surprises.
