It's that time of year again, the time to take back the role of a studious and courageous captain. Before becoming said captains, Jen Hawkins, and her twin brother Jim Hawkins, were both rebellious, stubborn teenagers. Despite all of their troubles, the two teens had been very close since they were little kids.
Ever since their dad, Leland Hawkins, left them, it took a major toll on the two teen siblings; it had brought the two teen siblings closer together even more. Even their mother, Sarah Hawkins, was deeply affected by Leland's sudden departure also. Even though she seemed to annoy them a lot of the time, she only wanted what was best for them even when their angsty state of mind blinded them from seeing it.
The bond between the Hawkins siblings had become even stronger when they went on their adventure to the legendary Treasure Planet; the loot of a thousand worlds. This is their story.
It all began when both siblings were no older than 6 years of age. Jen was a mere 3 year old little girl with messy, shoulder-length hair and messy bangs showing her tomboyish physique. She had a gap in her teeth and had big brown eyes to boot.
Her twin brother, Jim Hawkins, was a three year old curious, jovial little boy. He had short, light brown hair with blue eyes that were just as big as his sister's. He also had a gap in his teeth.
The siblings were engrossed in their favorite holographic book where it tells the legend of Captain Nathanial Flint and Treasure Planet. They looked at it with innocent fascination. They also listened closely to the narrator as he tells the story to the young, curious children.
"On the clearest of nights, when the winds of the Etherium were calm and peaceful," the narrator started, an Arcturian Merchant ship gracefully flying by in the book. "The great merchant ships, with their cargoes of Arcturian Solar Crystals, felt safe and secure." the narrator continued.
"Little did they suspect that they were pursued by..." The siblings looked at each other in a great mocking glee as they said together, "Pirates." A pirate ship under the name, "The Walrus." flies into view.
The pirate ship flew around the merchant ship. "And the most feared of all these pirates is the notorious Captain Nathanial Flint." The captain turns around to face his crew. He was a slender alien with a skeletal physique, and had six yellow eyes with sharp teeth.
They watched in glee as the pirates started to attack the merchant ship for their treasure. "Wow, pirates are the coolest, aren't they sissy?" Jim giggled, unable to contain his excitement. "They sure are, bubba! Those guns they have gives them unlimited power!" Jen replied, unable to bottle her excitement as well.
"Like a Cadarian Zapwing overtaking its prey-" "Duh, they're pirates." Jen said, rolling her eyes as a snort like laugh escaped her throat. Jim laughs with his sister.
Jim was about to say something when they both heard their bedroom door open to reveal their mother, Sarah Hawkins. "Uh, oh." Jim said. "Busted." Jen replied. "James Pleiades Hawkins, Jennifer Sparrow Hawkins!" Sarah shouted.
Jim quickly closed the book and hid it under the blankets. Jen rested her head in her hand and lifted her feet above her backside, trying to act casual. Jim did the same thing.
"I thought you two were asleep an hour ago." Sarah said, obviously annoyed that her two young children were still awake. Jen knew that they were caught and she grabbed the book with her small hands as she sat up. "Aw, mama. We were just getting to the best part." she said, watching as Sarah walked over to them.
Jim hugs her from behind and the two siblings look up at her with their best puppy eyes. "Please...?" Jim said as Jen hugged the book. Sarah couldn't resist the adorable looks on their faces.
"Oh, can those eyes get any bigger?" Sarah said with a smile. She then sits down on the bed with Jen and Jim, much to their delight. They got settled down with each kid on each side of her.
Jim opened up the book again on his lap and the story picked up where he left off. The flying ships started to move again. Jen leaned on her mom's chest as the story continued.
"Like a Cadarian Zapwing overtaking its prey, Flint and his band of renegades swooped in out of nowhere." The pirates swooped in and fought off the merchant ship's occupants. Flint had gotten his hands on the treasure after attacking the merchant ship.
"Then, gathering up their spoils, vanished without a trace." "Oooh." all three say at the same time before Jim turned the page. "Flint's secret trove was never found, but stories have persisted that it remains hidden in the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Stowed with riches beyond imagination, the loot of a thousand worlds."
Jen and Jim finished the story with the narrator, "Treasure Planet." The siblings look at each other with a toothy grin. They even laughed at each other's expense.
Sarah then closes the book and sets it down on the side table. "Okay, blow your noses." Sarah said, taking a rag from her nightgown pocket. They both blew their noses.
"Mama, how did Captain Flint do it?" Jen asked, karate chopping the air while standing on the bed. Jim climbed up on the headboard and jumped off of it, "Yeah, how he'd swoop in out of nowhere and vanish without a trace?"
Jim hid under the blankets and grabbed Jen by her ankles since he knocked her off of balance. Jen yelped in shock, getting him to laugh. "I have no idea." Sarah said with a sigh.
Jen and Jim suddenly felt Sarah grab them from underneath the blanket. She lifted up both of their shirts to expose their bellies. "I'm gonna get..." Sarah said. Jen was unable to escape the wrath of her mother as she felt Sarah giving her a raspberry. Jim had also been given a raspberry on his belly. Their laughter filled the small room.
It goes quiet after a bit and Sarah tucked both kids into bed. "Okay, now it's time for these two little spacers to go to sleep." Sarah said with a smile. Their beds were side-by-side with enough space in between for them to walk through.
"You think somebody'll ever find Treasure Planet." Jim asked his mom. "That's easy! I'll find it first and be the best captain that this galaxy has ever seen." Jen piped in. "Nuh uh! There can't be a girl captain. All tough captains are always boys!" Jim said, looking at his twin sister.
The siblings started to bicker like how any siblings would. It went on for a minute before Sarah put a stop to it. "You know I think?" Sarah asked, grabbing a toy pirate.
"What?" Jim and Jen asked, both smiling at their mother. "I think it's more... like a legend." Sarah replied, laughing at their reaction. She waved the toy around a little bit before setting it down on the side table.
"But mama, Jimmy and I know it's real." Jen said, her brother backing her up. "Yeah, it's real." Jim added. She smiled at the both of them.
"You two win. It's... real." Sarah said, whispering at the last two words. She kissed both kids atop their heads before getting up. "Night mom." Jen and Jim say. "Night you two." Sarah replied, going to the door.
Jen curls up into a ball and faces the wall. "Love you guys." Sarah says softly to her kids. "We love you too mama..." Jen and Jim said.
After that, she shuts the door gently, leaving them in the dark. However, Jen and Jim weren't tired yet. There was a bunch of rustling and the pitter patter of little feet on the floor.
Jim had grabbed the book and jumped into his sister's bed. Both hide under the covers and Jim opens the book again, the bright light from the book coming from under the sheets. The narrator from the book spoke yet again.
"There are nights when the winds of the Etherium so inviting in their promise of flight and freedom, made two spirits soar!"
