Chapter 1

Hermione had finished teaching for the day at Hogwarts. She was the Transfiguration professor and Head of Gryffindor House. She always enjoyed her job but today it just seemed draining to her. Christmas break was coming up so everyone students and professors alike were anxious and ready for the holiday. Hermione was really looking forward to the break to spend time with Harry, Ron, all the Weasley's really and of course her husband Severus. This year would be their third Christmas together.

Hermione headed to the Great Hall and up to the front table, hoping no one noticed she had a little less spring in her step. Minerva Mcgonagall sat in the Headmistress seat, and next to her was Severus, Deputy Headmaster. The other professors were already in their seats so Hermione was the last to take her seat between Severus and Neville.

Severus looked at Hermione with a slight look of concern "What took you so long? You are usually the first one here."

"Oh" Hermione said, picking up my glass so she wouldn't have to make eye contact with him. Severus always knows when anyone, especially his wife is lying. "I took the scenic route you know long Monday had to clear my head"

Severus looked placated and Headmistress McGonagall began the meal.

Severus talked with Minerva for the majority of the meal while Hermione absentmindedly listened to Neville excitedly explain all the new plants he received. She started to get a headache about five minutes into the meal and really wasn't hungry. So Hermione just picked at her meal, hoping her husband wouldn't notice.

Dinner was soon over and Hermione and Severus headed back to their quarters.

"How was your dinner dear?" Severus asked.

"Good. Neville was telling all about his new plants he received." Hermione replied.

"Really? Did he get the dragon lily bulbs? I wanted a few for my supply." Severus asked.

"Hm I can't say, I don't remember him mentioning those directly…" Hermione trailed off.

"Hermione, you never don't remember something. Are you okay?" He asked pausing their walk, even though they were 10 feet away from their quarters, her taking face in his hands.

Hermione sighed. She knew he couldn't lie to him like this he would see it. "I am just a little tired and have a headache."

"Mmhmm." Severus kissed Hermione's forehead and took her hand and tugged her into their rooms. "You go change and get ready for bed. I will bring you a headache potion." Severus said and he headed out the door that led to his potions lab.

Hermione sighed but headed to the bedroom and followed what her husband had said.

Severus came swooping back into their room and handed her the potion.

"Drink up darling." He said. Hermione took the potion from her husband and knocked it back with only a slight shudder.

"Thank you Severus." Hermione said. "Now come to bed."

"Alright love. We don't have evening patrol tonight so hopefully you can get a full night's sleep. It seems like you need it." Severus said as he changed. Soon enough both professors were tucked up in bed and asleep.
