Prolouge A New Home
Kate couldn't believe what the ducks were saying. Humans had brought Humphrey and her to Yellowstone National Park to repopulate it?! Humphrey was either an alpha or her boyfriend. She had to return home. But the golfing ducks didn't seem interested in helping her. Maybe there were some friendly wolves who could point her in the right direction. Humphrey who had been raiding the trash cans came back to her.
"You know this place has more food than Jasper Park, and if what Paddy and Marcel says is true perhaps it be better if we started a new life here." Humphrey said calmly and gently.
Kate hated to admit it, but what Humphrey said was making sense. But she still had a responsibility to her family. Even if it meant marrying someone she didn't love.
"Humphrey, I admit this is nice but I have duties back home. Let's see if we can find someone to tell us how to get home." She said going to see if there was anyone who could give her directions. Humphrey sighed and followed so at least Kate wouldn't be alone.
After about 6 hours of wandering around though they hadn't come across any wolves to help them. However, the two ducks returned. "We told you that the Park is low on wolves." Marcel starting to explain. "The ones who are around mainly stay to themselves."
"There are a couple of wolf cubs over there." Paddy pointed out. Humphrey and Kate turned around. There were three cubs. One dark brown, one light grey, and one pure white cub. Suddenly Kate began to wonder if her original concerns were that important. Because her father Winston and Tony were friends. Certainly they could work out their problems. Humphrey actually approached the cubs first.
"Who are you little ones?" He asked gently.
"I'm Charles." Said the dark brown furred one "The light grey one is 'Buddy' and the pure white one is 'Hope'."
Kate came up and asked "Where are your parents?"
"Poachers." Buddy said sadly. Humphrey and Kate exchanged glances. The pups were orphans! That made Kate's mind up. "Don't worry we'll look after you. I'll be your mom and Humphrey will be your dad."
"Kate can I talk to you privately for a moment? Humphrey whispered. Kate nodded and told the cubs they would be right back. Once an appropriate distance away Humphrey said "I thought you wanted to go home. We can't do that with such young pups with us!"
"Frankly I changed my mind about going home Humphrey." Kate explained "Did you know my father wanted to marry me off to Garth? I don't even like him. Don't even like him. But we been friends forever. I'm willing to give it a try if you are."
And so Kate and Humphrey decided to stay. But little did they know that adopting the pups was only the beginning of an amazing adventure.
