A/N: Hello there! It's been ages since I last wrote fanfiction but for over a month I came up with this idea that wouldn't stop bugging me. It is, as mentioned, a time travel story. I don't know about you, but for some reason I miss the Shippuden era. Probably because I'm not too fond on the Boruto era, not the pairings per say, but the whole plot is just, not to my linking. Anyway, I do hope that this idea wasn't used (I really haven't read more than 2-3 time travel stories and those were either genin ones, or warring states era); you'll understand what I mean in later chapters. Some things I want to mention: 1. that I'm not too fond on this chapter because it mostly dialogue but at the same time I didn't really want to get into too many details. There are a lot of things that I want to get into but in later chapters (also, I haven't written in a really long time, not that I was that great before). 2 I feel like Sasuke is OOC here but I just didn't know how to write him without giving too many details about what's coming.
That's all I wanted to say and hope you'll enjoy it!

Prologue
They were running. Through the chaos that has become their lives in the past few days. It was only the two of them and oh, how much she would've loved this idea back in their genin days but those times were long gone and now wasn't the time to reminisce on it.
She stopped in her tracks and looked back, hoping to see Naruto and Kakashi on their tracks but unfortunately there was no sign of them. She tried to feel their chakras and she soon realized that they were still back there, still fighting. They weren't running like them.
"Keep moving." she heard Sasuke say, without even glancing at her.
"But Kakashi-sensei and Naruto a-"
"We don't have time, just move."
She swallowed a remark and started running again. How can he just run away and not look back? Sure, they weren't teammates anymore, he made that clear and as much as it hurt her, she had to accept the fact. But it was only the four of them. How can he be so cruel and leave them behind without a care in the world? She couldn't just abandon them, not like him. They were left back there to fight a goddess and she was just running away like a coward.
She Stopped again and looked in his direction, at the Uchiha crest. "I'm going back!"
He stopped in his tracks and turned towards her. She could see how tired he was after fighting for days. But so was she, and so were Naruto and Kakashi and she couldn't just leave them there to die. She wouldn't be able to forgive herself.
"You can go ahead and do whatever you want to, but I'm going back. I'm leaving my teammates behind!"
"Stop being annoying."
Annoying. That word felt like a kunai that pierced through her heart. She still couldn't get used to this idiot word, even after all these years. She wanted to say something, she really did! But it may be because she was tired, or she just didn't know how to retort back, or it may just be because he was Sasuke Uchiha and as much as she wanted, she didn't have a smart come back to this. How much she'd love to know why, for the love of Kami, he hated her from day one. Scratch that. Why he kept hating her even after she just wanted to be a close friend to him. In the months before he left Konoha that's all she wanted, to be his friend, someone who he could count on. Yes, she did love him back then but she was more than happy to be just this, friends.
An explosion cut the train of thoughts. She turned back to see it coming from somewhere from where Kakashi and Naruto were and her heart sank.
"Tch, we don't have too much time. Sakura, move!"
"Let's stop here."
She barely heard him. Her mind was spinning, her head hurt and she could barely contain her tears. They were most likely dead. And she was alive. She was alive because she ran and left them behind. She was a coward and she did exactly what her sensei taught her not to do.
'In the ninja world, those who break the rules are trash, that's true, but those who abandon their comrades are worse than trash.'
No, she wasn't a coward. She was worse and she just couldn't believe that after all these years, after all her training, she still felt like a twelve year old.
"If you're done we can move on."
Her blood boiled.
"We just left those two back there to die and that's all you can say? Dammit, I want to give you the benefit of the doubt but I just can't! I know, okay, for some reason you hate us, I still don't understand why, because Kami, all we did was try to get you back home!"
Tears were streaming down her face and she just couldn't bear it any longer. She was left with Sasuke to fight Kaguya, a fight that she was sure they'd lose and all she wanted to do, after more than two weeks of fighting and barely getting some sleep here and there, was to stop and numb it all.
"If you're done."
Kami was he so heartless. If she hadn't realized by now in these last weeks, she sure got the hint now. Sakura looked up to see Sasuke walking towards the entrance of a cave and after a few minutes of debating what to do she followed him.
"Here's the plan." he said as he turned to face her. Her eyes were stuck on him and she was sure that the green of her eyes was accentuated by the red because of her crying. "I know a jutsu that we can use to change some things."
This got her attention. She raised her brows and nodded her head to let him know that she was all ears.
"Orochimaru worked on a lot of things, even on a time travel jutsu. We can use it to get back in time." She didn't like the sound of it, not the time travel part, but because it was something that Orochimaru had created. Was it safe? Did he really know exactly how it worked? She knew Orochimaru may have trusted Sasuke to some extent, but creating a jutsu like this was something that may put him at risk, in case someone were to find it.
"If it's real and you know of it, why didn't you use it to go back in time when…?"
She didn't want to end the sentence. With how things were she sure didn't want to get into another argument with him, or even worse, start a fight with him. It was enough that she had an enemy out for her, she didn't need another one.
"Because you can't use it to go back in time to more than a year ago."
"Oh."
"I'll need you to lend me your chakra, it requires more than I have at the moment."
"So we'll get back in time to change things?"
"You'll get back in time."
"What? Why me? Why not you?"
"Because I suppose there are a few things that you'd want to change yourself. I heard you and Naruto talking about it the other day." She was surprised to hear this. Sasuke was giving her the chance to change things not only for him, but for them as well. "But I have a warning, there may be some consequences."
"Consequences? Like what?"
"I don't know, you're the first one to ever use it."
"What happens to you? You'll be left here all alone."
"No, the moment you get back in time we would cease to exist."
"What?"
"For you it'll be a whole year, but for me, your decision will undo everything that happened so far."
"And I'm supposed to feel ok with this idea?"
"You'd rather die here and let us die anyway or just go back in time to change things?"
He had a point. She didn't really like it, but he was right. She didn't have the time to think about it too much because Naruto and Kakashi's voices could be heard from a distance. She turned around, fearing for their lives.
"Sasuke, those are Naruto and Kakashi-sensei! We need to help them!"
"No, stay here and let's do this!"
"But-"
"We'll die anyway if we don't do this!"
She faced him again, with tears in her eyes because she was living her teammates behind. Why didn't he choose either Kakashi or Naruto? Why her? She felt the weight of the situation on her shoulders. Sakura took a deep breath and activated her Byakugō seal and took him by the arm to send him some of her chakra. She waited for him to start a series of hand seals but he just looked at her.
"Before you go, I have to show you something. The truth about the Uchiha clan."
She nodded and he activated his Sharingan, letting her in his mind and showing her exactly what happened during and after his battle with Itachi. She looked at the two brothers fighting, then at Itachi's farewell. She looked at Obito telling Sasuke the true reason for the Uchiha's massacre and lastly, what the Hokages told him when Orohimaru had brought them back with Edo Tensei. It all happened in less than a minute, but in her view, it felt like hours and with every new piece of information she started to question everything she knew about the village she protected. After that he didn't wait for her to do or say anything, as time wasn't really on their side, and started working on the jutsu that was to send her back in time. Sakura, too shocked after learning everything, didn't realize he was done with it until he started fading away and everything around her turned black.
A/N: Aaaand, that's it for the prologue. Kind of short for my liking. My plan is to have the chapters a little longer than this but I won't promise anything as I haven't started the first one yet. I'll see how that one goes. If you liked it or have anything to say please leave a review. Thank you and I hope you'll come again for the next chapter!
