It was the dead of night. Her breaths were rugged as she ran through the dense forest. She didn't want to hurt anymore people. She already had to kill numerous people on missions, she didn't want to hurt people that weren't involved in those missions.
She pumped chakra into her feet, jumping from tree to tree trying to avoid the group of people chasing after her. She rested once she thought she ran far enough, hoping that she lost them.
I shouldn't have been so careless...
Sounds of shinobi running towards the girl, all with the same intention: to catch her and then end her life, just like she did to countless other shinobi from the other villages.
She walked in carefully, not wanting to get caught by nearby neighbors. She got the necessary information and was ready to go back to the village hidden in the leaves. She took out a *kunai made from glass, took a deep breath and slashed through the man's intoxicated body. The man fell limp to the ground, bleeding. He wasn't dead, but would die in a few moments due to massive blood loss.
She made sure not to splatter blood on her *kimono like shirt. A shuriken flew past her masked face, the light veil like material flowing from the sudden movement. She ran towards the dense trees, hoping the people after her would give up.
But that wasn't the case. The group was persistent, chasing after her. Due to sheer numbers, it was almost impossible for her to run away.
She jumped down from the tree, having no choice but to fight back. Tears started to form in her eyes, the thought of accidentally killing someone here enough to make her cry.
I can't cry now, there are too many people here.
The group circled around her, weapons in hand, others already forming handsigns.
She took a deep breath. Handsigns were weaved with ease, she clapped her hands and softly said.
"*Wind Release: Great Wind Rotation!"
A sudden burst of wind formed around her, circling like a flat tornado. The men were either pulled by the wind or were thrown back by the great force the technique gave. The moment the jutsu wore off, they were already knocked out.
The girl was panting, physically tired from running and trying to control the jutsu so no one was seriously injured. Once she regained her breath, she continued her journey back to her village.
She untied her belt, and it transformed back into a piece of string with a glass kunai dangling from it. Her mastery of the transformation jutsu was like no other, being able to make a clone made out of glass from a cup without weaving any handsigns. She threw the necklace, forming a tiger handsign, and before the necklace hit the ground, it became a horse with saddle on it.
~•~
She arrived near the gates at midnight, her entrance probably not welcomed as rumor has been going around of a murderer with a million faces, not one person knowing what he or she really looks like. And much to her dismay, that murderer was her.
She looked up at the distance, the gates open. It almost seemed as if the gates themselves were calling to her, telling her to enter. But she knew better than to do that. Even if her missions were directly from the hokage and she was a jonin with her own set of skills, most of the villagers don't even know her. She preferred to keep a low profile and she barely even interacted with people. Well, barely interacted with people to actually enjoy herself. She spent most of her life with her grandmother, training and taking care of her until she passed.
She was merely eight when that had happened, and she didn't know anything when it came to people. All interaction with her parents and other family members were blurry and she chose to shove them away.
She never went to the ninja academy, and she never had to go through the phase of being in a 3 - man squad. The third hokage appointed her as a jonin due to an unfortunate event when he happened to meet her. A jonin at age 9, a true prodigy. Mind and skill of such high caliber must not be wasted as genin or chunin! Danzo made sure that the kid was put to good use.
At the age of 9, she started most of her high ranking missions, each one taking longer than last. One of the reasons why she was rarely at the village. It all started with gathering information, until it moved farther and farther that it ended up with her murdering people. She didn't dislike being a shinobi, but she didn't enjoy it either. Most of her thoughts were about her taking a different path, a path where she had friends, a path where she could stay within the village and not go to ridiculously dangerous missions. Her latest mission was just as ridiculous as the rest of them. She was already used to it, but no matter how she looked at it, a child of 11 shouldn't be doing tasks like this.
She sighed and removed the transformation jutsu from her necklace. Before she could get any closer to be noticed by the guards, she strayed from the path and went in konoha from underground. It was a tunnel she made especially for this reason, an emergency exit or in this case, an alternate entrace.
She reached the other end soon enough. She securely closed it, making sure no one will be able to notice it. The opening was close enough to the hokage's office. She entered through a window, but not before making sure the hokage was not with unwanted company.
"Ah... Hikaru, I see that you're finally back from your mission," the hokage said calmly.
The girl merely nodded and handed the hokage her mission report, as well as a scroll she had retrieved from the mission.
Danzo simply glanced at her. She had hoped that the hokage was alone at this time, but danzo seemed to be always there. She had sensed some ominous chakra coming from him. She didn't trust him. She had meant to bring it up ages ago, but she never seemed to find the right time. Danzo was always there when she came in to give in her mission reports, it was almost as if he didn't want her and the hokage alone.
"Hikaru, I have given it some time and I thought I may offer you a vacation since you have been doing these missions for a while now. We have other jonin here that could temporarily take your place if needed. You may continue being a shinobi whilst you are here, but only as a genin. I think it will be better to keep it a secret that you are a jonin as the people of the village are still unfamiliar with you. I have already assigned you with a team, all I need now is your confirmation. You may refuse the offer of being a genin experience, but you may not refuse the offer of going in break," The hokage stated.
She stood there for a moment, thinking.
A vacation...
She had longed to see the day she'll experience what the village had to offer. But now that she had been given that chance, she suddenly had no idea of what she was going to do during a stay.
"The offer is very kind, Lord Hokage. But I will prefer it if I skip the genin experience. I have heard that genin mostly do tedious tasks, such as chores. I apologize, but I will have to pass on that. The vacation I will gratefully take it."
"That's settled then, I guess I'll see you around the village," the hokage said, giving the girl a small smile. Danzo just watched the short concersation, disliking every second the girl was present.
She bowed one last time and turned to take her leave, stopping by the door to speak a few words.
"Lord Hokage, please make sure that information doesn't get leaked. It's very confidential information that can be used against the village when in the wrong hands," she said, giving a final side glance to Danzo.
"I assure you that it is in safe hands."
She walked all the way to her small house on the other end of the village. She opened the door only for a bit of dust to fly over.
"Had I really been away for that long?" she muttered to no one in particular.
It had been a few months since had last been in the house. She occasionally visited here when she was allowed to take a short break from her missions, but it was never longer than a day or two. It had been so long that she doesn't even remember the last time she cleaned the place. It wasn't messy, but it wasn't necessarily clean as well. There was dust everywhere. The sink was as dry as a desert from the lack of use, same goes to the bathroom. The place seemed as if it was abandoned, and in no means was that untrue. If anything, her neighbors must've thought she was already dead.
She entered her bedroom, the scent of dust lingering in the air. She changed her clothes, keeping her necklace nearby, and lied down on her bed. It felt a bit stiff and unused, and it was a tad bit uncomfortable for her. She sighed and sat up, looking out the window. The rest of the village seemed to be asleep, it was as if she was the only one awake. She lied down once more, determined to fall asleep.
"Tomorrow will be different. Tomorrow will be a good day. But it will only be a good day if I have a good sleep," she whispered.
She gave herself a nod of encouragement, and an hour later she fell into a deep slumber. A slumber she hadn't experienced since she was a child of seven years old.
Prologue - End
Author's Corner:
Hello, to all those reading this! I'm just going to add a few notes here. Remember those words/phrases that have an asterisk (*) with them? Well they shall be explained here in my corner! This corner will usually be at the end of each chapter, and I will usually clear things out here.
Okay, so first order of business! The kimono like shirt. Okay so if you have a hard time imagining that, author is here to the rescue!... sort of.
It's kind of like the thing Mitsuki(boruto character) wears. It has slightly larger sleeves, but the opening is like only for the hands. Just imagine a sleeve with like a compartment within it(?) It's a bit difficult to describe it, but it's where she keeps most of her stuff and her pouch for kunai and shuriken are attached to her arms, hidden within the sleeves. So hopefully you can imagine the sleeves. XD. Anyways, the main body of it is longer than Mitsuki's. It reaches her feet. But it doesn't cover her feet. You can still her odd shoes made of glass. Cinderella reference? Maybe. The belt is her necklace, she transform it into a sort of ribbon for a more secure tie, the kunai becoming glass adornments on the ribbon. She wears regular clothes underneath it though. A simple white t - shirt, and shorts over leggings. Her forehead protector tied to a belt insert(?) on her shorts, so she can't be distinguished as a konoha nin.
Next!
The glass Kunai! Okay, we need to clear this out. You may be wondering, "why a glass kunai?" So I'm going to try and explain this. So a special ability of hers is glass release. She can only use glass release in certain conditions, which will be shown later in the story, but she had made a way where she can use glass in an efficient manner without having to meet those certain conditions. There are limits to what she can do with those already made glass kunai, but nonetheless, it is still very handy. Further explanation of her glass abilities will be explained in future parts of the story.
Next!
The Wind Jutsu I used there is just made up, obviously. But I just wanted to clear that out. Further abilities will be explained later on.
I think that's all of the asterisks... If I forgot any, please don't hesitate to tell me so I can explain that as well.
Sorry there was no Shisui in this chapter. But you'll see him soon enough. I also may or may not have a character profile added in the next chapter.
Well this has been author!
Thanks for reading! See yah~
