A/N: This special covers the Hawaii mission that saw Balthazar and Loona get together in the first place. From awkward beginnings to the happy end. Enjoy!
2:10 am, Balthazar's Apartment
The camera cuts to the inside of an apartment within an apartment block, within the Greed circle of Hell. Inside the bedroom of said apartment, we see a Fallen Angel. The blood moon's light is seen pouring in through the blinds of the room the male was occupying at the moment.
He couldn't sleep. This is shown with the picture being within the male's hands that had streaks from where his tears had fallen onto said object. Upon said image, was a photo of Balthazar and Ezekial on their wedding day in 1998. this image is significant to the male due to one reason. This image was taken weeks before the mission, led by Lazarus, which saw Zerachiel take Balthazar's wife's life because he thought she was one of Hell's spies. He executed her right before his and Lazarus' very eyes.
A heavy, yet sad, sigh leaves Balthazar's lips.
"It's still surreal. We had just gotten permission from your pops to get married too. Damn it, Zeke. Why was I not strong enough to kill Zack for what he did to you?!"
Dropping his face into his free palm while the other hand. It held the photo in question. Balthazar could not even begin to describe the roller-coaster of emotions he was embarking on now he had fallen from grace.
First. He was a feared assassin in Heaven. One of the best that was loved by few, hated by many and respected by all. Then. He was seen helping a sworn enemy, an abomination in God's eyes, to take back the new king of hell's daughter. Ezekial would have had a heart attack at the thought of Balthazar turning his back on God.
Ping
Balthazar's thoughts are now trained onto the small device on his bedside table. Since earning Hell's trust in the siege of Heaven to save Evangeline. Jezebel, Lazarus' daughter, had told Balthazar about the hell hound, Moona, he would think that was her name? Anyway. He had learned the Hell hound had not thanked him properly for saving her from being struck down by Zerachiel's pure white katana named 'Zero'.
Since then. Balthazar was like a ghost to anyone who knew he had gone on the mission for Lazarus. He had left no traces of his existence, no numbers, nothing. It was like he didn't want to be found by any denizen or, he just wanted to get away from the spotlight of him being a 'hero', to those he once swore to kill without hesitation.
The only denizen he even wanted to give his number to, at his messages from the only contact in his new phone that wasn't the guy giving him bounty hunter jobs. Balthazar couldn't help but laugh.
'Missed you at the Queen's funeral… '
-Loona'
Deciding to leave the message and, choosing to reply in the next few hours when it was time for him to wake up, Balthazar placed his phone face down on the table before, once he was just in his boxer shorts. He turns on to his back and, facing the ceiling, Balthazar thinks himself lucky that he wasn't the one being buried earlier today.
Next Morning
Radio blaring within Balthazar's Chevrolet Camaro while the fallen angel was pulling into a parking lot outside of an office block. This was where Balthazar's bounty hunting office was based in the Greed Circle. Once out of the car after the cyborg shuts off the radio and, as he climbs out of the car with his keys in hand. He would soon learn who else he shares these office blocks with him the minute he spots a van almost about to hit him.
"OH SHIT!"
A very loud voice shouts. Sighing when he sees the van almost on top of him. The male holds out his metal right hand while lighting a cigar with the lighter in the left hand. Soon, the vehicle would come to a, very violent, halt around his hand that was stopping the vehicle from hitting him.
When the small imp wanted to give Balthazar a piece of his mind about the van when it came to said sudden stop. The cyborg stares down the imp without a hint of remorse in his light brown eyes when he says.
"Is there a problem?"
Balthazar gets a good look at the bent out of shape front of the van he had halted. His eyes widen in surprise when he sees a Hell hound sat in the front seat of the vehicle. Ignoring the imps rants by simply walking by the pissed denizen towards the van. Balthazar makes his way over to the van and, once he reaches the window, his surprise turned into horror at the sight before him.
"Loona?!"
Despite the disorientation from the collision. Loona, with blood dripping from her head, still had the where with all to see Balthazar leaning in through the window to check on her. To the female, this was a 'pinch me, I must be dreaming' moment for the hound in question. For Millie and Moxxie, who had just gotten out of the van. The guns were out straight away and pointed directly at the male who was checking up on them to see if they were all OK.
"BALTHAZAR!"
This caused the male to back away from the vehicle at the two imps pointing their guns at him. Even if could kill them without hesitation. He was still trying to earn the imps trust after befriending Lazarus.
Even with guns pointed at him. Balthazar showed he meant no harm with his next action. Seeing the hound trying not to fall back to sleep. He grabs Loona gently by the waist and supports her head on his shoulder and, once she is out of the van and on the ground safely. Before the four knew it. Balthazar was gone in the blink of an eye.
Inside The Office Block, Balthazar's Office Reception
"Morning Jamie."
From her spot at the receptions desk. We come across an imp who looked like she was in her teens that gave a weak wave to her boss entering his office. On her face, she wore reading glasses to better read the paperwork laid out in front of her. Said paperwork. Was all the contacts, wanted posters and other random notices Balthazar had the imp post for his and her eyes only.
The imp receptionist, her name is Jamie Alcantara. She had stumbled upon Balthazar's agency in its infancy when Snow had assigned Balthazar his own office to deal with contracts the new King would send their way. Some were meaningless tasks like bodyguard duty or to police an event in Hell. Other, much more substantial tasks that paid handsomely would include the following.
Bounty Hunting
Kill orders within Hell
Theft, Vandalism and maiming of Overlords in Hell that wouldn't pay their dues to the new King and Queen
You name it, Jamie received every kind of request from all over the seven circles of Hell for her boss to embark on. Normally returning to his office at 'Balthazar' hours just to receive another job and be on his way. Usually, it would be the same day if the job only took seconds. Today, however, was considered a slow day for the receptionist and her boss. Given the time of day, Jamie was not expecting three imps and a hell hound to be seen stood at her desk. Looking up from her computer screen and seeing said beings before her. She spoke in her usual monotone voice towards the three.
"Cyborg bounty agency. We stab 'em and slab 'em for a fee. How may we be of service to you today?"
The four looked between each other with stunned looks on their faces. There was only one cyborg the four knew and, the fact he had his own agency meant one thing. Something Blitz was glad to point out.
"Listen up toots. Get that piece of shit toaster oven out here to answer for destroying my van and concussing my daughter!"
Jamie stops the typing she is doing to acknowledge the four before her. Sighing irritably. She stands from her chair and heads towards the door that led to Balthazar's office and firing range. The sounds of a gun being fired could be heard from the outside where the five were. Jamie knew to wait for the gunfire to stop before knocking on the door.
Inside The Office
The first, second, third and final target all fell with ease from only four bullets in the clip. Balthazar using the standard-issue guns he had in the weapons locker that he had brought from home. Once the gun had fired the only four bullets in the magazine, he blows the smoke away from the barrel of the smoking M9 pistol, reloads in the blink of an eye before changing the weapon.
Knock, Knock
While loading his SCAR-L rifle. Balthazar acknowledged the knock on the door as his secretary, Jamie, walked into the room with her clipboard in hand and, once she is in the room Balthazar used as his personal firing range, she stands and awaits her boss to acknowledge her presence. If you looked close enough on the waist of the young imps skirt. You can see an M9 in its holster that she was ordered to carry by the cyborg fallen angel while she worked for him.
Emptying the clip into more paper targets with scary accuracy. Balthazar turns to face the young imp beside him and asks before he picks up another gun on his table.
"What we got today Jamie?"
The imp jumps and yelps in surprise at the male finally acknowledging her presence. Once she got over the shock, the young imp speaks.
"First. A miss, Jezebel, I think that was her name. She called earlier while you were on your way here about asking to hire you for a job in the human world. It regards a drug baron in Hawaii that Lazarus used to deal with about cocaine when he was Eric."
Balthazar nods. Seeing this as her cue to continue. Jamie speaks up again, this time with more boom in her voice about why she was here.
"Secondly. Sir, Mr Blitzo, is here to see you. He claims it is important that I, and I quote, 'Get that piece of shit toaster oven out here to answer for destroying his van and concussing his daughter'. End Quote."
Balthazar chuckles. Today was definitely going to be busy for him in terms of what he had to deal with. Dismissing his secretary to let her call in the imps who were from the office further down the corridor, Balthazar gets back to what he was doing with a Winchester repeater lever action rifle he had laid out on the table in front of him.
Outside Balthazar's Firing Range, Reception Area
We cut back to Loona fussing over how she did her make-up this morning and worrying if Balthazar would think she looks a mess when Jamie appears from the firing range. Removing the rubber earpieces from her ears, the secretary clears her throat and states in a business-like manner.
"Mr Balthazar will see you all now."
Despite Blitz's rude demeanour when he barges in through the door without hesitation. Moxxie and Millie were pleasantly surprised at a well-mannered imp that was working for the cyborg fallen. Loona, however, was not prepared to see Balthazar when she entered behind the imps she worked with. Inside she was internally panicking worse than when she met Vortex for the first time.
Balthazar's Main Office
The walls, don't get the I.M.P. started on what was covering the walls when they entered the room. Guns, Swords, Katanas, Kunai on chains, RPGs. You name it, and they could guarantee it was sat on Balthazar's wall in their many brackets.
"You'd think the guy was preparing for a gang war. What with all the weapons he has."
Moxxie whispers to himself. A nudge from his wife followed by a point towards something behind a leather seat at the centre of a desk at the back of the room. On the cork wood bulletin board on the wall behind the desk, there was many a bounty poster on there.
From crooks to arsonists to Lazarus' high-value targets the new King of Hell would give the cyborg on the monthly at the cost of billions. Hell, on the wall was the bounty posters of Snow, Charlie, Jezebel, Cassiel, Alastor and many others that mattered to Heaven at the time.
"Now this is a surprise. What can I do for I.M.P. today?"
The four turn to face Balthazar, who sees him walking towards the leather chair at the desk and placing his repeater down on the desk before taking a seat. Once seated, the cyborg, cigar in his mouth, swivel around to face the three imps and the Hell hound that are seen stood before the seated fallen angel.
Placing his feet up onto his desk. Balthazar pours four glasses of whiskey and, handing them to Loona, Moxxie and Millie. Throwing his lighter down onto the desk in front of him, Blitz saw this as the perfect time to speak his mind.
"What can you do for us? What you can do, is pay for the repairs to my fucking van and apologise to Loona!"
Balthazar chuckles lowly. Flicking the ash from his cigar, the male goes into his pockets and proceeds to empty them. Only for his eyes to widen in mock surprise before speaking sarcastically.
"Gee whizz sir. I seem to be running low on money right now."
This was when the cyborg pulled out three five-dollar bills from the sleeve of the right arm of his denim jacket. To annoy Blitz further, Balthazar hands over the three bills to Loona, Moxxie and Millie. Knowing he had to explain himself to the three, he spoke sincerely.
"Those five-dollar notes. They will be trebled when I let you guys in on a job I've just received from the higher-ups in the Pride circle."
Sitting up for the first time and grabbing the remote from his desk. Balthazar directs the four's attention over to the whiteboard where the slideshow was playing. On the first image of a drug cartel member. Balthazar speaks.
"Years ago, in an attempt to take over the financial, drugs and black markets while he was alive. Eric Snow, AKA, Lazarus, the current King of Hell, had contacts in places like Tijuana, Mexico. Venice, Italy. And in one place in particular where this job is taking place. Hawaii."
Balthazar throws a dart at the board and, since the metal dart wouldn't stay inside the plastic whiteboard, it almost hit Blitz in the head and caught Moxxie on the right horn upon his head. This is when Balthazar continues while Moxxie is pulling the offending object from his horn.
"Tito 'Little Dog' Calaveras. He is the man I have been tasked with hunting down for Lazarus as a, shall we say, an unpaid favour. A favour involving him ratting Lazarus to the cops and getting bail on the island state when Lazarus would send a hitman to take him out and fail, multiple times to claim his life. This is where I come into the equation."
Balthazar stands and hands the four in the room with him some tickets. They would have questioned him about the pieces of paper. But Balthazar beat them to the punch.
"Wondering about the tickets right? Well, wonder no longer. Tito loves a good party. And, with these tickets being our key inside said 'exclusive' shindig filled with Drug lords, gangsters from the likes of Cuba and Italy. I will assume the identity on my ticket to get inside the party, corner Calaveras, kill him, then come back to Hell and claim his head for a substantial reward."
Ending the slideshow. Balthazar walks over to his nearest gun wall and grabs a standard M9, RPG and two six-shot revolvers from the wall. As well as a blade he can keep hidden on earth until the time is right. Once he has the weapons he needs are placed inside the duffel bag, he turns to the four and says with a smirk.
"Jezebel has already paid me $40 thousand in deposit. I have another sixty grand to come once the job is done."
This peaked Blitz's interest. He never knew the royal family were paying a single hitman so much money for one job. So, the moment the sixty grand was mentioned. Blitz spoke.
"Well, why didn't you say so. I can buy twenty company vans for that much. And maybe buy that horse I wanted."
This is where Loona shakes her head at her adopted dad for only caring about the money Balthazar made. Something, she was all too happy to mention.
"Blitz's money fetish aside, Bal. Why does the daughter of the King and Queen have interest in something that her father would have hired his close friends, myself and Blitz to do the job since it involves going to earth to complete the said job?"
Balthazar stops in his tracks. He never thought to ask why Jezebel wanted him to go so badly instead of just I.M.P. He just blindly accepted it as a contract he wanted to take on to finally be regarded as someone to be trusted by everyone in Hell. Collecting his thoughts and, thinking up his answer to give to the hound, Balthazar speaks.
"I don't honestly know Loona. But, what I do know is, Jezebel was very specific in wanting me to team up with I.M.P. on this job. Something about contingency plans or some dumb shit like that."
Before the details were ironed out and Balthazar's duffel bag was laid out on the table. He spoke.
"I know for one thing, however, she was very specific on two things. One. If I want the rest of the money on top of her deposit. I have to split the sixty grand five ways. Meaning, myself, you, Blitz, Moxxie and Millie will each receive twelve grand for the job. Two. She also wanted you to come on the mission with us Loona. Since you and I are the only ones who can change into a human."
This is where Blitz steps in between the two of them.
"Absolutely not! I will not allow my receptionist to come on a job with you. You'll only take advantage of my sweet and innocent Loony."
This is where Balthazar spoke up straight away.
"And why shouldn't she come with us, Blitz. It will get her a little more experience in the field if she tagged along with us. And, she will be getting a share of the sixty grand for her efforts. Besides. I have seen the freaks on earth that drool all over Loona, to begin with. Trust me. She will be well-armed in her human form thanks to the spare pistol I am taking with me for her to use."
Loona also took this moment to interject too.
"Plus, I am twenty-three. I'm pretty sure I can handle a few drug-addled dickheads. It will just be like being down here with the drug addicts we normally take kill orders off, to begin with. Plus…"
This is where Loona got closer to Balthazar and nuzzled into his arm. Causing the tall cyborg fallen to go red from how close Loona was to him. Something Blitz caught onto and got in between the two.
"Fine, you can go. Just, don't get close to this prick while we are on the job with him."
Loona celebrated with a loud 'YES!". Balthazar just looked like a fish out of the water at the thought of him and Loona becoming more than 'friends'. Embarrassment aside, Balthazar clears his throat and proceeds to pull his phone from his pocket to phone 'the guy who gave him jobs on earth and in Hell.'
Later at the Happy Hazbin Hotel
Seeing Balthazar walking into the hotel lobby from behind their reception desk. Jezebel and Snow exchanged knowing looks when they spotted Loona walking beside Balthazar while Blitz, Millie and Moxxie were walking behind the two in front.
The only two who knew what two's look meant. Was Moxxie and Millie. While Jezebel is talking with Moxxie and Millie, Snow is showing Blitz around and explaining the details of the job Balthazar may have missed out on explaining. Balthazar is seen sat on by his lonesome on the couch in the lobby nearest the entrance while Loona was stood on her phone and blanking the world around her.
The rare moment she looks up from the device. She catches Jezebel's eyes and, with a confused look, she sees Jezebel mouth the following words.
'GO TO HIM!'
When it clicks in Loona's mind what Jezebel was mouthing at her. Her cheeks tinted pink when she looked at Balthazar, then back to the female and the two imps that were in on Jezebel's little plan. For you the readers, Jezebel's plan was simple. They had set up this, 'job', as a diversion so Jezebel could put her dad's real plan into action.
Get Balthazar together with Loona.
Finally taking the hint. Loona walks over to the male that is seen sat down and checking and re-checking his ammunition for his guns. Taking a seat next to Balthazar with her face still glued to the screen to hide her blush, she sat next to her saviour in Heaven.
If Loona could see them at the front desk. She would be able to see Moxxie, Millie and Jezebel egging her on to make a move on the male she was now sat next to. With a gulp to get rid of her nervousness, she speaks.
"H… Hey, Balthazar."
The male froze up mid reload. Something Loona noticed right away at how stiff he had reacted to the female saying a simple 'hey' to him. Externally, the female couldn't read Balthazar's face to see his reaction. Internally, he was thinking to himself.
'SHIT!… Say something back to her dumbass!'
Thinking on his toes. Balthazar says something that causes the three at the front desk to facepalm at the sheer stupidity of what Balthazar says.
"Yes, I am Balthazar."
If it was possible. You could hear the internal screaming from Balthazar at such a stupid blunder on his part. But. What he wasn't expecting to see was Loona smiling at his screw-up. She was actually smiling at his blunder. Man, she must think he was a massive dumbass to come out with the response he had used.
Going back to his guns. Balthazar is seen reloading faster to get over the embarrassment he had just caused himself. Something Loona thinks internally.
'Why is he so cute when he is flustered? Wait… No, Bad Loona. No one is cute in our eyes!'
The silence was deafening between the two sat next to each other on the couch. Deciding to break the ice, Balthazar says from his spot on the couch. Something Loona took notice of right away.
"So… your second job topside?"
Loona takes a second to process the question before responding with a 'Hmm' and saying.
"It is my second time. Topside! It is my second time on earth with Blitz and the others… You ever been topside?"
Balthazar smirks. He had finally broken Loona out of her shell. Unbeknownst to him, he had also fallen into Loona's trap of breaking himself out of his own shell upon talking about going to earth.
"I think I need to count on my fingers and toes two thousand times over the number of times I have been topside with my…"
Balthazar stops. Realising he was going to mention his late wife, Balthazar catches himself and repeats what he was going to say.
"…self. All the times I went by myself to earth. Either as part of missionary work or catching and killing rogue demons that escaped Hell to run amok on earth. You know. Boring shit."
Loona laughs lightly. She indeed had caught the fact Balthazar had stopped himself from mentioning someone. But, thinking better of it and, Jezebel's words ringing through her head during the Evangeline mission about Ezekial.
'Dad told me Balthazar isn't interested in dating after his wife Ezekial, was killed by Zerachiel during a mission with the holy guard led by my dad. Who knows, he might give it a shot once this Car horn show of a mission is over.'
Since that day, Loona knew better than to pry for answers from the enigma that was beside her. Plus, she knew she wanted him to acknowledge her and maybe, just maybe, give her a shot. This Hawaii mission would be the perfect distraction for the two of them to get to know each other better than just a cyborg asshole and diseased hound.
