Hello, all!
I mainly got the idea to write this because I love OC fics, and didn't see too many PatB ones (except for skimmingsurfaces and SylviaW1991, go read their works as well), so I decided to write my own. This story was loosely based off the fanfic Zanna. I also made my OC Indian, as I am intensely proud of my Indian heritage, and even slipped in a few of my family member's names. I hope you enjoy! DISCLAIMER: I don't own Pinky and The Brain or WB, only my OCs.
Chapter One: The Chase
Priya sighed as she settled against the side of her cage, clutching her tail. How had she winded up like this, in a bright American lab with a tail that was almost, if not certainly, broken? She had spent most of her life roaming the bright forests of India, nibbling mangos and berries. She had been a loner for the most part, but she hadn't minded. It had been rather calm and peaceful, though it got lonely from time to time. She was a beautiful mouse, with lovely warm light brown fur, a single curl down her forehead, and dark purple eyes. She had been lying in her leaf hammock when someone had plucked her from the canopy and offered her a thick liquid that smelled like mangos, papayas, bananas, and all of her favorite sweet berries. She had tried desperately to resist, but they knew her weakness. The drink had tasted wonderful, exactly the way it had smelled, but slightly bitter. Soon her eyelids had gotten heavy, and everything had gone black.
She had woken up in a lab, when suddenly she had been shot by a laser, which she now realized had been the gene splicer. Suddenly she had been able to read and understand the humans. A few days later, she had been loaded onto a train, then a boat, then a plane. She had seen the sign:
WELCOME TO BURBANK, CALIFORNIA
Then another: ACME LABS
They handled her much more roughly then they had in India, that was how her tail had broken. They hadn't even noticed yet. They were so very unaware, humans. And when she had seen her reflection in her water dish, her eyes had gone straight to her head, which was much bigger than before. She had decided that it had happened because the gene splicer had made her smarter than before, seeing how she was bilingual all of a sudden. Priya let out a soft grunt as she attempted to stand, then looked around, wondering if there was anything she could use to escape her cage. She noticed a paperclip a few inches away from her cage, so she stretched her arm out to grab it. She stuck it into the lock, and sure enough, the door popped open. She stepped out, being careful of her tail. She surveyed the lab, then stifled a gasp as she noticed a short albino mouse with pink eyes and an even larger cranium looking in her direction. He hadn't noticed her yet, so she quickly shut her door and scurried behind her cage. She wasn't sure if he was friendly or not, and she wasn't taking any chances. On her way in, she had noticed a gerbil, so she had tried to say hello and ask some questions. Unfortunately, she hadn't known she was bilingual yet, so she had ended up speaking to the gerbil in Bengali. She had realized her mistake right away, but by then it was too late. The fellow rodent had turned away and scoffed, muttering about idiots, and she didn't want a repeat. "Is anyone out there?" Priya jumped as the albino mouse called out. He had a strong American accent. "What are you doing Brain?" called another voice, a high pitched one with a cockney accent. At least that's what Priya thought it said. "I believe I saw something, or perhaps someone, but I suppose it was a hallucination," muttered the small mouse, sounding almost annoyed. It sounded like he was walking back to the cage, and a second later, Priya heard the door slam. Wasting no time, she darted out, climbed up a lamp cord to a window ledge, and jumped. It was only a one-story building, but Priya was still scraped up. Biting her lip to stifle a moan of pain, she scampered down the street. It was only then that Priya realized that she had no idea where she was going. She could probably find a field or a park, as fields and parks were everywhere in the world except for Antarctica, but Burbank was such a big city, and she was such a small mouse…
Tears sprang to Priya's eyes as she realized she'd made a grave mistake. She couldn't go back, though, there was nothing there for her. She would never go back. She would keep going, no matter what. Then suddenly, she heard voices. "Hurry Pinky, if we delay we may run out of time to take over the world tonight!" "*Pant, pant* I'm hurrying, Brain! ZORT!" Those were the voices she had heard earlier. What a fool Priya was! All of the animals from the lab probably worked with the scientists, and though the two mice had said they were going to take over the world, that had to be code for something - namely, capturing Priya! She quickly ran down an alleyway, and noticing a small heap of garbage, she decided to hide in it. It was the perfect plan, but as she burrowed in, her tail was snagged on a jagged piece of metal, tugging on the already injured appendage while slicing it at the same time. Priya let out a strangled cry of pain, and crawled out of the mound while whimpering. She had to get out of here before they found her. They had undoubtedly heard her, because not only had she cried out so loudly, the voices she had heard had also stopped. She crept toward the opposite end of the alley while clutching her tail, but to her dismay, it was a dead end. There was nothing for it. She would have to bolt. She ran back the way she came, but before she could reach the exit, the pink-eyed mouse's partner blocked the entrance. "Stop in the name of macaw!" he called, obviously trying to sound brave, but the high pitched voice and cockney accent didn't exactly help his case. "It's 'the law,' not 'macaw'!" Pri heard the pink-eyed mouse scold. Priya took a deep breath. "I'm so very sorry," she whispered to the lanky mouse. She put her head down, ran forward, and smacked right into the mouse's gut, knocking him down. She ran past him into a different alleyway, which thankfully, was not a dead end. Thunder rumbled overhead, and Pri hoped lightning wouldn't strike. That was the last thing she needed. She gasped as the shorter mouse suddenly ran toward her. "Stop right there!" he called. Pri ran. How had he reached her so fast? It must have been because he sometimes roamed the streets at night, somehow she figured he did that often. Tears streamed down Priya's cheeks as rain started to fall, fall like the tears, because it seemed now that the whole world was against her. She ran so fast the world became a blur, like the tears and the rain blurring her vision. There was a sharp pain in her side and her breath came in short, shallow gasps but she still would not stop. Her legs hurt. Her legs hurt and her stomach hurt and her throat hurt and her head hurt and her chest hurt and her heart hurt. Everything hurt, but she would not, could not stop. The footsteps behind her seemed close, so close. Panicked, Priya made a sharp turn and slipped on a patch of mud. She went down hard and felt another sharp pain, this time in her ankle. She yelped and tried to get up, but the pain was too great and she slipped again. Once again she tried, and this time she managed to start limping away. There was no time to think, the footsteps were right behind her and she could hear both mice gasping. Limping gave way to feeble hops, but soon the adrenaline kicked in and she was able to speed up. However, she had missed her chance. Someone grabbed her tail, yanking her back, and she felt and heard something pop. She screeched in pain, and sobbing, tried to break loose. "No… NO!" she shrieked. "I can never go back there! Not as long as I live!" How could she have let this happen? She had outsmarted a Bengal tiger in the Indian wilderness, for crying out loud! The large-headed mouse had a strong grip that betrayed his size, however. "Don't hurt her, Brain!" Pri heard the lanky mouse squeal. "I'm afraid it's too late for that," answered the shorter one. "Come, my dear. We mean no harm." Priya barely heard him in her pain, she was still trying to get loose. Try as she might, she finally succumbed to the pain and exhaustion and collapsed to the ground, sobbing. She felt the smaller mouse lift her up as her world dimmed, and her eyes finally shut.
Woah... a lot of excitement for the first chapter. Let's hope Priya will be alright.
