My first fanfic story and I'm currently going to rewrite the first few chapters. This one is done, if you have read this one before the rework, it's not necessary to read the rewritten chapter.
It was a beautiful morning with early birds singing, but he couldn't care less. He was in his bed dead tired. He had been carrying out his squire duties and also helping Star. With watery eyes, he wondered. Why he's so stressed when he had been doing it for a long time now. He should have grown used to it. Being worked to the bone, being the royal squire helping Star with her quest for mewman and monster coexistence, and being the knight of the wash's squire. Even recently, he had stopped her "night walking" and while it was fun, it very much pleased him when it stopped. But alas the stress had gone out of control and lately, he had been crying himself to sleep at the thought of the next day of hardship.
Forcing himself up, he went to his restroom to freshen himself. When he saw his reflection he observed his bags, they aren't so heavy today and he decides that there's no need for makeup to mask them up. This night he had gotten some quality sleep. When his thoughts were running as he tried to sleep with a few tears falling down the side of his face, he had thought of Star and Tom as his uncontrollable thoughts would always end up there. As always he would deny the thought that said he was in love with Star, but every day the thought would be harder and harder to deny. But this night it all made sense, in his denying he had caught the glimpse of a red glow and it reminded him of the bloodmoon and its curse. The revelation allowed him a rare good night's sleep.
He would meet Star in two hours when she wakes up.
He was face to face with Star. He had requested vacation and he could clearly see that she wasn't pleased with the request, "Marco I really need you, can't you wait to get your vacation? I can't unite monsters and mewmans without you, besides you have only worked as my squire for a couple of weeks and the night walking has been gone for some time now."
"please" He scuffed as if offended "it has been a little over three months," He says playfully before taking a serious tone. "besides Star this vacation isn't to relax, it's to break the curse of the bloodmoon."
"Marco why? The blood moon curse is a load of bullshit anyway." She crosses her arms and stares at his eyes "if it's true how come I'm with Tom, huh." She snarls, she felt a little guilty denying him his request, but she knew that she had done much, giving him a place to stay and a job, allowing him to live in the butterfly castle. It was only fair he did this much.
Marco just stared at her, the feeling of fear rushing over him. It was weird how he was the only one affected. It made him wonder if he even was affected. It can't be he told himself. It mustn't be true, this revelation only motivated him more, but the sense of dread was still at the back of his mind. He knew for a fact that he couldn't just leave Star especially when she outright told him she needed him.
"Star I'm begging you, I need to do this, this is for the both of us, please."
"Marco why is this so important? Why try to break a curse that may or may not be real? Are you-"Star could not withstand seeing Marco as he pleads. " Arh, Fine Marco you get one week alright."
"Thank you! A week is all I need."
Marco got a week vacation. He woke up early, as usual, ate breakfast with Moon, River and Star. Him and Star ate Captains Blanche's sugar seeds, their favorite breakfast cereals. River ate like there were no tomorrow, stuffing his face with multiple corns while Moon ate elegantly. Star and Marco quietly discuss what would be the most efficient thing Star can do when he is taking a break.
"So what are you planning on doing today, dear."
"I'm..uhh going to just hang out with Tom and Ponyhead." Star said dancing around the question, Moon was suspicious, but she had already too much to think about so she ignored it, the butterfly kingdom was still under reconstruction and in a state of confusion, after Toffee's defeat.
Marco excusing his early leave and went to the laundry room in the castle subbasement. He had only requested vacation from being the royal squire, he was still on duty as squire of the wash and he liked it, Lavabo was the first who recognized him for his talent and treated him fairly in the castle. As he walked to his destination he could see that the staff of the kingdom especially the squires and knights was all glaring at him.
"Good morning Lavabo, what are my quests for today?"Marco hoped it wasn't washing again, the washing machine was driven only by manpower, it was hard, tedious but the reward was Lavabo teaching him how to wash the different clothes to perfection and predictable development that Marco didn't notice, only after Star commented on it, did he see that he was actually becoming quite muscular, his nacho belly was gone, in fact, he had an apparent sixpack, however still way inferior compared to his adult body in H-poo's dimension.
"Ahh, Marco, it is the weekly cleaning day today, you only need to take care of the Lint monster."
"Yeah, sure no problem." The Lint monster is a fierce monster, one should not let the name fool you. Marco learned that the hard way, but lately he could beat it with no major injuries. Marco looked confident until he saw Lavabos's eyes filled with worry. He began to feel a bit nervous.
"Marco this is not the same old lint monster you've grown to know, this is a magical lint monster."Marco wondered why it now was a magical monster, he thought a monster made of lint was already magical. Lavabo as if he read Marco's mind answered, "It is magical because this week we washed magic inbound clothes, and the lint the monster is made of is lint infused with magic."
"What is the difference between the two?" Lavabo watched Marco for a moment and could see he had a bit of a frown. Lavabo approved of Marco's attitude
"The main difference is the fact that fanning the fan will not get rid of it. The magical lint is too strong, how strong I do not know. It all depends on the quality of the magic lint, but if you defeat the monster you will become a knight of the wash, it is after all the last trial." Marco was bewildered.
"How can I become a knight already, does it not take years, is there not a certain process one should follow?" Marco quickly spat out. His negative reaction lies in the fact that almost everyone has contempt for him, which is especially true for other squires and knights.
Almost all of his fellow staff hate him because they think he's exploiting that his best friend is the princess. Even after liberating the Butterfly kingdom and even before that did he stop River from partying the kingdom to ruin, and still, he gets treated like a parasite. Who knows what the disdain will evolve into if he became a knight after being a squire for only a few months.
"Oh Marco, there is a process but you have already completed them, and true it can take years, just look at Old Guy squire, but it doesn't have to. The most important thing for a squire to be granted knighthood is to be strong, and that you are." Lavabo smirking proudly at the fact he has such a great squire.
"Alright, I'm off now." Marco sighted but still confident, Lavabo gave him a look of approval and nodded.
Marco went into the air system. It was sparkling more than usual, but no unusual amount of lint. at least it's not gonna get bigger than normal, he thought. However, there was a weird pressure, the air if he's not careful he'll cough and wake the monster up. It felt like he's in the mine of the Pixies again. Marco shudders at the thought of the misadventure that it was, but also smiles, it was that day he became mess up twins with Star. He whispered in nostalgia, "It was nice having that bond but now I..I... wait what was I thinking again."
Lately, he had been getting a weird occurrence happening. He would suddenly forget what he was in the process of thinking and it weirded him out quite a bit. He had reasoned it as a side-effect of being too stressed. The answer was questionable, but he doesn't have time to look into it.
The lint all began to move thanks to his self-talking. A hill of lint formed that easily grew to 4 times the height of Marco. A silly little head with a smirk comes off the tip of the hill, the hill moves growing bigger, it's now 10 times the height of Marco. Four eyes appear under the silly head, a mouth that opens as wide as the gate of a castle, three rows of teeth, and the shark-like teeth are huge and crude, the mouth alone sends sharks fleeing in shame. The monster then grows six long tentacles.
The monster was terrifying to look at even now, and the first time he ever saw it, he was pretty much shitting his pants at the sight. The monsters roar was bone-chilling, even now Marco can't help but feel a shiver down his spine. The roar promptly turned into a screech, just like nails against a blackboard. Its long tentacles swinging aimlessly, hitting the walls and ceiling, while it is shrinking? Suddenly two small golden tentacles explode from the lint monster, the shrinking lint monster was dead silent but still swinging its tentacles. Marco noticed the lint monster was not shrinking, but being absorbed by the presumably magical lint monster.
Marco was staggered, his heartbeat rising and he was trembling, however, he was excited not afraid. This electrifying feeling he's feeling, it's been so long since he has felt this way, been so long since adrenaline has been pumping through his veins.
*Am I becoming a battle maniac?*
The once giant pink lint monster was now gone, there was only one thing left, a 40-foot tall golden lint monster, the monster was not saggy like the pink lint monster. The monster then began to shrink, Marco was confused but noticed that the monster was transforming or rather evolving, the lint was becoming threads.
What stood in front of Marco was now 20-foot in height, its shape was of a human, however, no arms and no head, it had two eyes each of the shoulders, and a mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth, and two tentacles were coming off each of the shoulders tips.
The monster wasted no time, roaring it swings its tentacles at Marco. He sidesteps the first swing and blocks the second, he could have dodged the other but he wanted to feel how strong and how hard its body was. Even with Marcos guard up, he could feel a blue mark was forming on his arm. That little contact told him to avoid a direct hit. The monster didn't come closer it kept attacking at a distance and doesn't let him catch a break.
Marco got closer by sidestepping swings. The closer he got the more awkward the swing and ultimately slower it got. After a slower attack, he held on to the tentacle, pulled out his dimensional scissor from his hoody pocket. He jumps off and lands on its shoulder, Marcos' wrist was grabbed by a tentacle before he could stab its eyes, he switched the scissor from righthand to lefthand, and cut through the thread but the scissor could not cut just compress. He was so proud of the scissor that was sharp and strong enough to cut rock without as much as a scratch but was left surprised after the disappointing effect.
With his wrist still caught, he could only duck as a swing was coming for him. The monster careful not to hit itself kept attacking. The monster was annoyed that it could not hit Marco and then slammed him, back first into the ceiling. Not letting go of the wrist it slammed him into the floor. Marco's face was in the ground, blood poured from his mouth, it hurts him even to breathe.
The monster swings Marco in the air over itself like a flail, swinging him faster and faster. Marco with his scissors and squished the tentacle that holds him. The grip loosened and his wrist slipped out. He was send flying across the room into the door exit. His instinct instantly screams that he could escape and as his hand touches the doorknob he freezes.
*I can- no, I can't, I can't betray Lavabos expectation! If I can't beat this monster, how can I ever hope to beat another like Toffee?! If I lose now, I'm not fit to be at Stars side, much less a knight of the wash.*
Marco stood up despite his body begging him to stop, coughing up blood, swallowing blood, he limped toward the monster. The monster had turned its back toward Marco, it was absorbing lint in the vicinity. Marco noticed a strange light coming from its back, he took his scissors, open a portal behind the monster, he stabs his scissors into the back of the monster, the monster didn't notice being stab, and in the hole he made he saw a crystal that was pulsating. The crystal was emitting a familiar golden light.
Hoping it was like a heart he thrust his hand in the hole and gripped the crystal. The monster instantly reacted and roared while swinging its tentacle hitting the floor, ceiling, walls, and Marcos back as well as it's own. Marco throws up more blood through his gritted teeth and with all his might he yanks the crystal out from the monster.
A bone-chilling screech came from the monster, its body falling apart. The once-terrifying monster is now only a mess of threads. Marco barely standing looked at the crystal, he sees his own reflection and sees red crescent moons on his cheeks.
"Marco, wh-" Star that just arrived saw his back, multiple whip slashes, shredding his hoody, some flesh was absolutely torn allowing blood to stream down. Marco dropping the crystal and the crescent moons are gone. Marco turned and saw Star's frightened face, her wide eyes filled with tears that flowed down her face. "I'm sorry Marco, I'm sorry, I should've never- Marco, Don't die! Marco!Marco-"
He just smiled at her, not able to hear her. He had an idea what she was saying.
*she always gets like this when I'm close to death, I hate it now for some reason, she properly saying things like how important I am and the like, but it just hurts now.*
His vision darkened and he collapsed.
If you are new then welcome, but if you aren't I'm sorry to say it will be some time before a new chapter comes out. My original plotline was going to be messy and unnecessary long in a bad way. Anyway see you next time.
