High School Hero

Percy's POV
I wanted to say I slept like a baby, but that would have been a lie. I struggled to fall asleep as I was constantly thinking about the day ahead. My new school. I wouldn't say I'm a bad kid, but a kid who is constantly at the wrong place at the wrong time; leading me to be kicked out of five schools. Yes five. My future looked grim, with no education; I anticipated the moment I would be forced to walk into a retail store begging for employment. But then I was given another chance, Moms new fiancé Paul Blowfis- BLOFIS managed to convince the headmaster of Goode High School to let me join. And here I am, ready for my first day at Goode High School.
I stumbled out of my bed and walked groggily to the bathroom, immediately splashing cold water on my face. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw two seaweed green eyes peer back at me. Come on Percy Jackson, just stay quiet and concentrate on your work; this time it could be bett-
"Boo," said a voice behind me.
I turned around, slightly startled, and saw my mom smiling at me.
"Mooooooooom I told you not to sneak up on me like that," I said grinning.
"Oh sorry Percy" replied mom. She studied my face. "Aww I know you're worried about your first day, but I know you can do it. Just remember it's a new start for you, just try your best and stay out of trouble."
"I promise I'll do my best," I proclaimed. "For you and Paul"
Before I got react, Mom pulled me in for a long hug. I admit I needed that hug as it eased my nerves only slightly, yet her little pep talk motivated me to try my hardest at this new school.
Mom went downstairs to prepare breakfast.
After much consideration I decided to wear a plain white T-Shirt and Jeans. I wouldn't stand out too much, would I?
I was halfway down the stairs when I was met with a delicious aroma; I quickened my pace down the stairs and saw my Mom made my favourite breakfast: blue pancakes.
Gosh she knew how to make me feel better.
I savoured every bite of that scrumptious pancake and after I had finished, I fought my urge to ask for more and took my plate to the sink.
And within ten minutes I was ready to leave.
I told myself that the weird sensation I was feeling wasn't nerves, but excitement. And who could blame me? It had been a while since I got kicked out of my last school for beating up a bully, and I longed for a return back to school. But I would have to be on my best behaviour at Goode, as if I am kicked out of Goode. I doubt any other school would take me in. Who knows where I will end up?
Mom was going to drive me to school on the first day.
Whilst on the journey, Mom was preaching about how amazing this school would be, and how I would do amazing there.
Yet my mind was swarmed with two thoughts.
Firstly that bee better not come near me. It had entered the car and was flying around the back. I don't think Mom noticed or she would have had a heart attack. I discreetly opened the window slightly more and the bee flew out. Phew.
Secondly I knew I had to be on my best behaviour. No more getting into fights, even if it is for the right reason. Just say calm and blend in.
Blend in? Dad used to always tell me to stand out.
Yeah but he's not here anymore, is he?
When we reached the school, I peered out the window. The school seemed pretty modern; every building was painted white with fields littered with flowers surrounding it.
Since we were told to arrive at school slightly later then school began, the walkway to school was deserted. I presumed everyone was in lesson.
Me and Mom parked in the car park and walked to the entrance, where we met Paul; a smile etched upon his face. That surprised me, as I was usually greeted by the headmaster at the other schools I was kicked out of.
"Hey Sally," he said to mom and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He looked at me and smiled. "Hey Percy, welcome to Goode High School!"
"Hey Pau- My Blofis I mean," I replied grinning.
Mr Blofis nodded at Mom, "I'll take it from here Sally."
"Awhh Percy," Mom cooed before wrapping me in a tight embrace. "Remember what we spoke about."
I looked her in the eyes and smiled. "I promise I will Mom, love you," I said.
"Love you more sweetie," she replied.
Me and Mr Blofis waved as she got into her car and drove away.
"Now Percy, you looking forward to your first day?" Mr Blofis asked.
"I sure am sir," I said forcing a smile.
"Good good, let go to the office and sign you in with the receptionist."
For some peculiar reason, every receptionist seemed to despise me. They would usually be an old hag with a grumpy attitude who try and make my life a living hell. So I prepared for the worst.
When we got to the office, we were met with a fairly young lady with a ponytail who immediately greeted us with a smile. Looks can be deceiving, I told myself.
"Good morning Mr Blofis," she said cheerfully. She looked at me. "And whom do we have here?"
"Morning Miss Violet," replied Mr Blofis. "Yes, we have a new student joining us today, his name is Percy Jackson."
"Percy Jackson," she said slowly to herself as she typed furiously at her computer. "Spell your surname please Percy."
"Sure thing," I said. "J-A-C-K-S-O-N."
"Thank you very much Percy."
After a short while Miss Violet brandished out a sheet of paper from her drawer. "Welcome to Goode High School! Here is your timetable."
I took my timetable off her. "Thanks, do I go to lessons now? Or do I meet the Headmaster?"
"You would normally meet the Headmaster; unfortunately he is currently on a break at Hawaii and will return in 2 weeks."
"I would love to be at Hawaii right now."
Ms Violet smiled sweetly at me. "Wouldn't we all, now you better be heading to your class right now. I assume Mr Blofis will escort you there?" She looked at Mr Blofis.
"Ah yes," said Mr Blofis who had appeared to have previously zoned out. "Thank you very much Miss Violet, come on Percy; we don't want to be too late."
"Have a wonderful day Percy," proclaimed Miss Violet.
"Thanks miss, you too," I replied, adding a smile for good measure.
If only I was as positive as she was. But looking on the bright side, she was probably the only receptionist to not hate me immediately. That could be signs for better things to come at this school.
I followed Mr Blofis through the corridor before he stopped to question a girl who was sauntering through the corridor. Whilst he was busy questioning the girl, I peered through the window of a classroom and saw every student engrossed in their work whilst their teacher was marking papers at her desk. Bo-ring. Seriously how can anyone sit in complete silence and just do work? I moved onto the next classroom and saw the students relaxing on their chairs, passing around popcorn whilst a movie was playing. This was more like it! I gave a silent prayer that I would be in that classroom. Mr Blofis ushered me over and we walked past both classrooms and many more after that. We finally reached a classroom door.
"Here it is Percy," said Mr Blofis taking me aside. He managed to muster a more serious tone. "Now Percy, every troubled thing in your past, forget about it. This is a brand new start for you, a clean slate. Promise me you'll try your best."
I smiled at Mr Blofis. "I got this sir."
I was determined to leave a good impression into this school, starting with this class.
Mr Blofis opened the door and a dozen heads turned our direction.
"Morning Miss Petunia," said Mr Blofis. "We have a new student joining you today, Percy Jackson."
I looked at Miss Petunia. She looked fairly old, with blonde hair (with streaks of grey) and glasses which failed to hide her wrinkles. She looked at me solemnly.
"Very well" she croaked and with her crooked fingers she pointed at an empty desk. "Jackson, you will sit down here."
"Good luck Percy" said Mr Blofis. "We'll speak later," he added before shutting the door
"Jackson, you will listen to everything I say and pay attention in class, is that understood?" enquired Miss Petunia. I nodded. "Now take your seat."
I didn't like the way or the tone she was speaking at me, but remembering everything Mom told me. I replied with a simple "yes miss."
I took my seat. Several of the other students began whispering and giggling to one another. Miss Petunia began elaborating on the algebra on her board.
I studied the students in the class. They seemed fairly normal at first glance, it told myself I was going to see these people a lot; so it was vital I stay in good terms with them. I was going to proceed with my work but then I saw her. The most stunning girl I have ever seen in my life. She had blonde wavy princess like curls and an athletic but cute build which was hard to avert your eyes from. But that wasn't even the best part. Her eyes were GREY, and she looked so beautiful with them. Damn it Percy concentrate on the lesson. Normally I wasn't too fussed about girls but my oh my I would take an exception for her. I needed to talk to her. What would I say though? Hey my names Percy and I've been looking at you during lesson and I think you're really pre-
"JACKSON," boomed Miss Petunia's voice.
"I uh- Yes miss," I said startled
I looked at Miss Petunia; her beady eyes were fixated on me. Everyone else was looking at me too.
"Stand up and answer the worded math question on the Board," she demanded.
I stood up and looked at the board and squinted my eyes. It's not that I couldn't see the question properly, or that I couldn't do the math. You see I have Dyslexia, which causes me to struggle to read question like these. It truly sucks. So yep, I was struggling to even read the question on the board.
"I don't know Miss," I said.
"You don't know the answer? Oh what a shame, considering that you have to be stupid to not know the answer," Miss Petunia retorted.
I could feel my temper rising, she was acting like very single bully I have faced. I really wanted to say something back, maybe comment on her abysmally large nose, or her ugly wart on her cheek. But I fought that urge and stayed silent. Clenching my fist.
She walked menacingly over to me and stared at me; I didn't stand down and stared at her back.
"You know why you don't know the answer Jackson, BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO MY LESSON! She bellowed.
That infuriated me; I couldn't stand being shouted at for no reason.
"You're right in front of me, there's no need for you to be shouting," I said. "I don't want to be taking the full force of your smelly breath, like seriously ever heard of a mouthwash? I recommended you use the whole bottle when you get home.
I could hear some sniggers from the rest of the class, Miss Petunia looked gobsmacked. I don't think anyone has ever spoken to her like that. But she completely deserved it.
For a moment the class was silent. I could hear the birds tweeting outside, as if they were giving me a warning call.
"Get out," whispered Miss Petunia.
"What?" I asked.
"GET OUT OF MY CLASSROOM!" She yelled.
"Jesus relax" I said under my breath before picking up my backpack and exiting the classroom.
I took me a while to take in the events that had just occurred. God Damn it Percy you already got into trouble. I was nowhere near enough trouble to warrant me being kicked out but still, I didn't make a good impression. And so much far Blending in, news always spread like wildfire at high schools. I'm sure soon I'll be the one renowned for taking on Miss Petunia.
And yet I was feeling slightly happy. Why was I happy? I had just got into trouble.
Oh I remember,
The girl with the grey eyes.
