Chapter 1
I looked at the clothing sprawled around my bed and sighed, overwhelmed by the amount of things I had to pack. I rolled my eyes annoyed at the fact that I had to relocate my whole life all the way across the country, all thanks to my older brother.
"It won't be that bad, plus we can use a change in scenery!" My twin sister exclaimed from the corner of the room as she continued to fold her clothing into a suitcase.
"Well why can't we move back home then? To the mother country." I grumbled as I snatches a blouse off of my bed and folded it. You see we were born in the tiny island of the Dominican Republic and our parents moved to the states in order for us to 'have a better life'. Now we were moving again, this time from the bustling streets of New York to the lush secluded forests of Forks.
"You know Anderson is opening up his own construction company over there and it's going to be beneficial for the family, we just gotta suck it up." Aurora said as she finished zipping up her suitcase, all done with her packing. "And I suggest you stop procrastinating and finish up Danielle, our flight leaves in the morning."
I sighed and nodded, tackling the task ahead and dreading what was to come.
.~.~.~.
I groaned as I heard the alarm on my phone go off, grabbing it from under my pillow and turning off the alarm. The screen read 4:30 A.M. and I grumbled at the fact I had to get up so early, sliding off of the bed.
"Buenos días princesa" I heard my mom say, as I walked into the kitchen and saw her making coffee. She was already dressed and had hers and my dads suitcases by the door. "Your sisters in the shower and your father and brother are finishing up getting ready. We have to be out of the apartment by 5:25 so please hurry up mija."
I nodded as I prepared myself a cup of coffee, needing caffeine if I was going to make it through the day. I finished my coffee and went to go take a quick shower, washing my hair. I went back to me and my sisters shared room and started changing into some black leggings, a black t-shirt and a black Nike hoodie. I guess you can say I really love wearing black clothing.
"Mami's waiting for us." Aurora said, as she finished putting some gel into her curly hair. I nodded slipping on some black checkered vans and heading out the bedroom door, suitcase in tow.
"Goodbye home." I whispered into the empty apartment as my family headed downstairs.
The ride to the airport was boring to say the least, my family spent it talking about our new home and neighborhood. The only thing that made me perk up was when my brother mentioned that Forks was next to a Native American reservation.
It took us about an hour to go through airport security and check into our flight, after that time passed by in a blur. We got breakfast, our flight was then called and my life back in New York City was completely over.
.~.~.~.
After roughly 10 hours due to having a connecting flight, we had finally managed to make it to Seattle, Washington. From there we would be driving down to Forks.
"Well at least we've made it in one piece, huh girls?" My mom smiled at us as, we turned and smirked at each other knowing that we were both extremely clumsy.
The drive to Forks was a long one, and I spent it in and out of consciousness due to how tired I was. I cuddled deeper into my mom side, hating how cold it was here. After what felt like an eternity, I felt her shaking me softly.
"Mija, wake up. We've made it to our new house!" I heard my mom say, and when I opened my eyes I saw her beaming down at me. I sat up and rubbed my eyes taking in my surroundings. Our house was two stories high, and painted a beautiful pale yellow. The color made it pop against the lush green Forrest surrounding it.
"Yup, I guess we are home." I mumbled and smiled looking towards the house, maybe this move wouldn't be so bad after all. I got out of the car quickly and made my way toward the porch, which has a swing to the far right. I stumbled a little on the last step but managed to steady myself.
"And there's the Danielle we all love!" My brother laughed from the trunk of the cab, getting out the last suitcase. I saw him make his way to the driver and pay before the chubby old man sped off.
"Papi, you owe me 5 bucks!" I heard Aurora exclaimed as she beamed toward my dad and outstretched her hand. My dad sighed and grumbled something about not making anymore bets with her before he pulled out a 5 dollar bill out of his pocket. "We betted who would have an accident first, you or me!" She laughed.
"Wow, I can't believe you guys!" I sighed and stood next to my mom as she opened the door.
"Guys quit it! Now the moving company said all of our furniture should be here, but it's pretty late so we should probably unpack tomorrow" She said as we all shuffled behind her and into our new home. My mouth hung open at how big it was compared to our tiny 2 room apartment back in the city.
"Let's go!" Aurora yelled as she pulled me upstairs and up to the rooms, not letting me take in how our home looked.
Once we made it up the stairs we noticed that there was a broad hallway leading up to a giant glass window, a balcony visible on the outside. On the left wall there we 2 doors and on the right there were 3.
"First door on the left is yours!" We heard our brother yell from downstairs. We ushered quickly to the door, and swung it open. We gaped at how big our bedroom was, guessing this was the master bedroom.
"Well I guess it is fair we get it huh? Since we have to share a room." I said turning towards Aurora and shrugging, she nodded in agreement.
"Ugh thank god the beds are here, I'm so flipping tired!" She said as she threw herself on the bed closest to the door. I walked towards the one closest to the window, noting that it was a bay window.
"You're going to have a good time sitting on that bay window and sketching the outside scenery." I smiled at my sister as I took off my shoes and laid down on my own bed. She smiled brightly toward me as her eyes shifted toward the window, her brown eyes twinkling at the idea.
"Yeah, i am huh." I heard her say as my eyes started feeling heavy, watching the sunset outside turn into nothing but darkness.
