Note: Hello. Here's the first chapter of the sequel. So far, I don't think I'll be adding any descriptive gore like some parts of the first one but we'll see what happens. This will be some sort of warning. Again, thank you for the reviews for the first story.
Chapter 1
Minoseki Academy was in ruins. The training field had craters with several spots on fire, and the trees were burning. Kanami loved sparring with other Toji in that very field. The disaster even touched neighboring areas. Some homes were destroyed. Every building was reduced to rubble except for the one where Kanami, Mihono, and President Hashima were. Using a telescope, MacArthur was only able to get a glimpse of Kanami. He destroyed the entirety of the wall of Hashima's office with a missile. The building was severely battered but still standing. Dozens of journalists were on the scene with the event appearing on every news channel. Many rescue teams were scrambling to find surviving Toji. They were uneasy at first because the ship was still lingering above. Thankfully, its cannons were put away. Given the damage, only a few managed to survive. The trauma prevented the survivors from helping any of the teams. Two of the most haunting things were the screams that ensued and the blaring of the sirens.
There were small fires in President Hashima's office. Kanami was lying down on the opposite side of the damage. The missile attack threw her across the room and slammed her against the wall. She was breathing slowly and heavily. Her ears were ringing from the sound of the explosion. She didn't know if she was alive or not. None of it felt real. It's as if she was in the middle of a nightmare. This time, she was certain she was going to die. Slowly, she turned her head towards the destruction. She saw the figure of a man standing at the edge with an aircraft dangerously close and he was holding Chidori. She became paralyzed with fear when the image of the individual became clear to her. Looking to the left, she saw the president sitting against the wall with her head down. Looking to the right, she saw Mihono on the floor as well. Her face couldn't be seen. Was the girl even alive?
"I find it rather incredible that one individual can change the course of history. Be it for good or evil. That would depend on the individual, wouldn't you say? I, myself, am attempting to make a change in the world," as MacArthur finished the sentence, he slowly turned around to look in Kanami's direction. "And it begins with this," MacArthur lifted a small container of noro. The noro was glowing brightly inside the glass.
MacArthur walked over to where President Hashima was sitting. "I suppose you are the one in charge of this location."
The woman slowly looked up and was met with MacArthur's malicious stare. The glowing red eyes that brought fear into anybody who saw them up close. Never did she think that she would be in the same room as the man who has killed many. She did not want to think about the damage done to the campus. The sounds of the sirens made it clear what happened. She felt like she had failed the Toji at Minoseki Academy. The thought of the casualties hurt her.
"I-I am," Hashima said in fear. The light shining off the okatana grabbed her attention and immediately recognized it as Kanami's. She looked around a bit and saw the girl lying on the floor, looking back at her.
MacArthur smiled and thrusted the okatana into the woman's abdomen. The woman let out a slight yell when he pulled the sword out and she fell over. She clutched the wound with her hand. Kanami yelled as she witnessed the horror. She sat up and wanted to reach for her okatana but forgot that the man had it.
"You bastard!" Mihono yelled as she charged towards MacArthur. She swung Kashuu Kiyomitsu and he moved out of the way. She went for another strike and he moved again. As she went for a third strike, he countered her strike and grabbed her by the neck when she was open. The sudden grab made her drop her okatana and MacArthur lifted her.
"You're a feisty one," MacArthur commented as the girl was struggling to free herself. She kicked him several times but he did not budge. It was like kicking a boulder.
"We… are going… to… stop you," Mihono managed to say. "You… will… go down."
Seeing the girl struggling to get free brought joy to MacArthur. After a short while, he snapped her neck with only one hand.
"NO!" Kanami yelled when she saw that the girl had suddenly stopped moving. "You monster!" she cried.
MacArthur walked over to her and dropped the lifeless girl in front of her. The girl's eyes were empty. Not too long ago, she was having a conversation with her. She thought back to the day where they were on a mission together and roughly told her the details of a virus. Tears fell as she saw Mihono's body and Hashima fighting to stay alive.
"She was no use to me," MacArthur said to Kanami. He turned away and started walking to where the damage was. He stopped half-way and turned around. He smiled at her and said, "A new class of monster that comes from the combination of the Omni virus and noro. What a creature that would be."
As MacArthur turned back around, he was met with a shotgun blast to the chest. He was stunned and dropped Chidori. MacArthur looked down to where he was shot. The loud sound made Kanami shoot her head up and saw Francisco standing at the edge. He was still wearing the suit he had on during the funeral. Sure it might have been insensitive to Ellen but he didn't want to go back to looking like Indiana Jones. He shot round after round. Every single shell struck MacArthur. All of Francisco's rage went into every round. All of the crimes MacArthur has committed. Every individual he's killed. He was determined to bring an end to it all. He kept firing and was soon out of ammo.
MacArthur stumbled back a bit before falling. A pool of blood surrounded him. Mai, Hiyori, Sayaka, Ellen, and Kaoru jumped in. Mai was lucky she wasn't on campus when the attack happened because she was on a mission hunting an aradama. Seeing how devastated Kanami was, Hiyori rushed over to her side. The image of MacArthur sitting there, the look of defeat, made them feel that it was going to end soon.
"You bastard! You killed Grandpa!" Ellen angrily said as she grabbed MacArthur by the collar and pointed her okatana towards him.
"I am sorry about that, kid. I really am. I knew he meant a lot to you," MacArthur apologized looking down. His apology made Ellen let go and step back a bit. She was appalled by his response. There was no way she was going to accept his apology. Sincere or not.
"Hiyori-chan! Mihono-chan is dead!" Kanami cried. Hiyori looked at the girl's body and internally cursed herself for not getting there sooner. There may have been a chance to prevent it. Mai and Sayaka were right by Hashima, tears in their eyes. Mai's tears also came from how destroyed the school was. She quickly followed Francisco to where they are now. She glanced around the area and saw countless Toji on the floor before jumping. It was a total nightmare.
"I'm... still alive. Thankfully," Hashima faintly said. They did what they could to aid her bleeding. She was lucky that MacArthur missed important organs. She looked over to MacArthur who looked like he had lost.
"Francisco. I am sorry things turned out this way. I did my best to be there for all of you. Family is important," MacArthur told Francisco. It's as if he knew he was going to die. The apologies he gave him and Ellen were sincere. Is this what people are like in their final moments? It was almost scary.
Ellen was triggered by the word "family." She quickly lifted her arms, okatana in her hands, and struck MacArthur down. She aimed right for his neck. The whole world felt like it had come to a complete stop. Kanami, Mai, Hiyori, Sayaka, Kaoru, and Francisco saw MacArthur's head roll and his body fall back. With a flick of her arm, she splattered the blood that was on her sword. Hashima was dumbfounded that Ellen would do such a thing.
"Ellen… What did you do?" Mai asked, concerned.
"I killed him. What else?" Ellen responded harshly and walked towards the direction of the door, stepping out. When she was at a far enough distance from the room, she dropped her okatana and ran. Her tears were flowing, leaving spots on the floor.
Francisco went over to where MacArthur's head was. All he did was stare at the severed head. He vaguely remembered when he first met him. He then stared at the shotgun in his hand and reloaded it. The nightmare was over.
Kaoru stepped out and saw that Ellen was no longer there. She went down the hall and stopped when she saw something shining. It was Ellen's okatana. Kaoru picked it up and held it close to her. Nene uttered a sad "Ne." I killed him. What else? The pain in Ellen's voice when she said that. Kaoru was afraid that MacArthur had finally broken her. She's never seen her in so much pain.
Francisco noticed that two small containers of pills had fallen out of the dead man's pocket. He walked towards the edge of the building, quickly scooping both of the containers as he passed and put them in his pocket. "I don't know what's going to happen now. Whether we are truly free or not is uncertain. All of you take care of yourselves. You won't be seeing me anymore."
"Where are you going? And what did you pick up?" Hiyori asked.
"Don't worry about what they are. I'm going to find the rest of the members of Project Douglas and reason with them. If they won't, then…" Francisco lifted his right arm halfway and pulled his claws out. With that, he withdrew the claws and jumped down. None of them noticed that the ship had already left.
Soon after Francisco's departure, soldiers rushed into the room. Two of them went over to where President Hashima was. "We're going to need a medic!" The sight they were presented with was going to be a lot to unpack. One other went over to Mihono's body and another to aid Kanami.
The nightmare had come to an end. Or so it seemed. MacArthur was a man who committed countless crimes. He's killed so many people of all age groups. All over two decades. The misery he's created. Some who survived wished they were dead. "Why did I have to survive?" was something they always asked themselves. He was weakened by Francisco and killed by Ellen.
Note: There are two things I was listening to when I was reading through this. For the first part, until Mihono attacked MacArthur, I was listening to Travel Delays from Avengers: Infinity War. After Ellen killed MacArthur, I listened to the first forty seconds of Totally Fine from Avengers: Endgame.
