I warn you. Bad words may appear. :
Late in the evening, I came back tired of work, and I was a waitress in a cafe. I looked at the gray, tall edifice of a building that looked more like a prison. My aunt ran this place. The late mother had a sister who lived in Phoenix, so I had the misfortune to end up here.
It was an orphanage that I wanted to leave as soon as I earned money. I could possibly earn some extra money in a car repair shop, but nobody wanted to take me.
Why? I'm a girl, and the mechanics couldn't believe me that I graduated from a technical college this year.
The quiet money-making plan was interrupted by the sudden disappearance of my roommate. She was only four years old and had no ability to predict the consequences of her actions. How could such a child survive without adult supervision in such a large city? On the same day, I even reported the case to the police. Until now, Maya has not been found. I was so worried about her, and she was like a pissing off younger sister to me.
Passing each "guardian" wide, I went to my room on the second floor. I locked myself so that no one would disturb me. I wanted to devise a plan to search for a child without the stress that I would suddenly get hit in the face for minor offenses. By the way, this way I waited for the evening to disappear from this place forever. Maybe I'll even leave town like my big sister. Ever since she married a rich boyfriend, she didn't care about me. Of course, I didn't count on her help when she was busy with more important matters.
Time passed quickly, and I changed activities in the darker and darker room. Eventually I started packing into my backpack. I also took the little girl's clothes, hoping to find her.
Later, I packed two more favorite books that were gifts from my dad: "1000 Best Monuments" and "Building a Car From A to Z". I knew them by heart, although I had no intention of leaving them here.
I took a little nap until two in the morning, but was awakened by a silent alarm clock.
"Time for a little action," I whispered to myself.
From both beds I took out all the sheets and duvets that could be used. I tied everything up in one long "rope", which was to enable me to escape.
Then I opened a window that let cool autumn air into the room. The red curls fell straight into the eyes, stirred by the slight breeze. I looked outside to observe the state of my surroundings. I had a large parking lot under the window and a gate leading to the park next to it. I will quickly disappear among the trees as long as I take care of the camouflage in twilight. Yet another detail was the sprinter of one of the caretakers who was standing right outside the window. It reduced the length of the route I was supposed to walk from the room to the asphalt ground.
I took off my green sweater and navy blue jeans to reveal my bruised body here and there. I turned my back to the mirror to look at the scratches.
- They're still healing - I ran a finger over the red scratch on my skin - I have something like this on for the last time.
I promised myself so long that I would take Maya and myself out of this hell and what? Maybe she was the one who escaped from here, although I tried to protect her from her guardians.
I put on a black sweatshirt and leggings. Finally, I tied my unruly back long hair.
I was able to start the operation "Run Girl! Run!"
I calmly tied one end of the rope and threw it outside. With the backpack on, I climbed onto the marble window sill. Looking down, I had the impression that my world was rocking unexpectedly. Mind tried to stop me?
Keeping myself safe, I carefully crossed to the other side.
The wind gently caressed my freckled cheeks. I had the impression that he encouraged me to fight for solitary freedom.
The silence was broken by the howl of an ambulance racing in the distance. The noise made me lose my alertness suddenly. Unexpectedly, I fell a meter down as if ... The door handle, which was tied with a sheet, could barely bear my weight. - Oh, no, no, I muttered softly, looking up, a bit more.
Fortunately, I was already a centimeter above the roof of the black car. I carefully put my feet down so as not to trigger the alarm by hitting too much. I was able to breathe relieved relief. It happened without any major problems.
I sat down gently and then jumped to the hard land.
Smiling broadly, I looked at the window of the room I will never return to. I turned my back and ran out of the hostile house using the wicket. I recognized her as my gateway to freedom "without punishing fists." Without losing my enthusiasm, I wandered more calmly through the park. Unfortunately, I couldn't continue smiling thinking about the missing girl. Now is the time to implement the next plan.
Already far from home, I was screaming her name. At the same time, I tried to hear every murmur so as not to miss the child. Unfortunately, after an hour of screaming among the trees, I didn't meet anyone. I felt a tiny droplet on my cheek, but it wasn't my tear. I glanced up at the sky visible between the treetops.
Overcast, it scared rainfalls, which will be of no help when looking for a small person.
I decided to go out to the street that ran next to the park. I went to the other side before looking for a vehicle. In the distance, only a white Jeep was visible, probably driving somewhere. Older vehicle, but I couldn't recognize the specific model due to semi-darkness. However, I didn't pay much attention to the car when I had bigger problems. If only I have Maya with me again, we absolutely must leave Phoenix. The aunt will notify the mafia of our escape and we will be in danger. I couldn't imagine a worse situation.
The rain had started in earnest, creating an unpleasant climate. I wasn't soaked yet, but I was cold. I put the hood on to keep precious warmth from being lost. My strength was departing more and more. I stopped calling for Maya knowing she wasn't around. At the same time, I tried not to think about worse scenarios than the disappearance itself.
Walking along the street, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed two massive black GMC pickups. They were going towards me, but I tried to ignore them. Ordinary cars, right?
- Is my aunt's mafia - I whispered seeing the threat - fuck.
I rarely used curses, but fear set them free.
Without thinking, I ran back to the park. Why did this gang know about my escape ?! It was the middle of the night so everyone should be asleep!
As expected, the vehicles followed me, colliding with the weaker trees that had been torn out. I was running down a gentle hill, although the rain had wet the leaves lying here and there. I accidentally slipped at the end and slid down on my stomach.
I got up quickly so as not to submit to the will of the only family who wanted to hurt me. My mom's sister couldn't get me, even if she wanted to use dangerous people.
Suddenly I was caught by a black car and hit sideways. As he intended, I fell down again, but didn't get up. I wanted to see the faces of people who resorted to brutality. I will remember them and hand them over to the police station. I was actually surrounded, but by three ... cars. Two, a large GMC and an old white Jeep from the eighties. Blinded by the three pairs of spotlights, I stared down at the ground. Why haven't I felt hands on my back yet to bind me?
- Why aren't you getting out of the cars yet ?! - I shouted - I lie here defenseless!
I didn't hear a door slam, so I looked at the cars again, squinting. I opened my mouth wide when I saw very surprising machines.
I stared at the GMC's brown eyes, which were on the windshield. The glass on the other windows was dark gray. I completely didn't see the driver sitting in the cabin.
- We have a young girl, Boss, so what now? - I heard a bass voice from behind - are we taking him right away?
Sitting on the wet grass, I fumbled around my face until I touched a fairly large stone the size of my foot.
I held it when I encountered people I had yet to see. Any rock seems funny, but it gave me a sense of greater confidence and security.
"First I want to warn you," the Jeep pulled closer, "give up our existence and you will lose your life without warning.
- Who do you work for? - I got up from the damp lawn - do you know the local mafia?
- No - I got a short answer.
I began to carefully retreat towards the free gap between the sides of the pickups. Despite the obvious hope of an escape, I was constantly staring at the white car.
- Then who are you ?! - I put my free hand to my cheek - all of you ...!
"Scientists hungry for knowledge," Jeep shot a mad smile.
I sped backward sharply without having to look at possible obstacles. The opponents noticed my desire to distance myself from their company. I could turn around and run normally once I was behind GMC. They grunted a few curses under their noses.
- Find another research facility - I thought - I'm not interested in artificial intelligence cars!
I have never heard of them being created and used by civilians. Especially how did such a mafia get the aforementioned machines?
- Get her! She cannot be free after this meeting!
The gun probably slammed and a bullet flew past me. It was so close to brush the skin on her arm.
- Shit! I'll be mugged again!
My thoughts begged fate to help me get out of such a strange situation! I was also planning to get my dream job and meet someone ... Just like my older sister.
